The Contented Sole in Pembrokeshire

Last two times, batter so thick, it was uncooked inside, so couldn't eat the fish. Such a waste!

We had a lovely munch box for 7.50 each. Cod bites, Onion rings, sausage and chips. Service was excellent, food tasted great.

I’ve never, ever had as much batter on fish in a chip shop before. It was about 1/2 inch thick and slimmie. The fish itself was ok. The chips were ok. Not great, just ok. Look at how much batter was left at the end and I eat some!

Bad staff badd attitude . Average food . Open early when towns quiet . Closes when towns busy . In a town that thrives in tourism . Badly run business

The fish were really nice, chips were ok. Their card machine is a bit hit and miss, so I suggest you have cash with you. But we ate there every night. The girls serving were really lovely.

This chip shop is busier than most and for good reason. While you may have to wait a bit for your food, if your experience is anything like ours, you won’t be disappointed. The quality of food was good, fresh cooked and with no bones in the fish. Portion sizes were absolutely massive. Seriously, the large portion of chips more than filled the double box to bulging point. The staff were polite and coped well under the busy conditions. Pricing was also very good compared to my local chip shops. Definitely worth a try!!

We ordered x 2 small fish and chip dinners, with curry sauce and mushy peas... decent portion and really good value. Food was not overly greasy. Quick and friendly service. Only negative was curry sauce was quite tasteless. We nearly cancelled our order due to other reciews, but realkt glad we didn't and would say make up your own mind. Would recommend.

Unfriendly welcome from the girl on till more interested in playing with a huge ball of blu tac. Sausage in batter..... Sausage was poor just a soggy mush, the bater was so thick and undercooked. Cod was paper thin and again thick uncooked batter. Chips were ok big portion. The girl who wrapped it up was friendly looked a little embarrassed by the till girl.

Fish lovely, batter perfect, chips fantastic, don't know why somebody's 1 stared them but I found them excellent 😀

Just arrived in Narberth. 6 hungry couples from Sheffield. Found Contented Sole,10 minutes from accommodation. Rang up and checked re menu,ordered fish and chips and mushy peas X 6 and different pie and chips, and small fish, for reminder,including lactose free batter. Asked ho long,at 5.45 pm,told to collect in 10 minutes. Collected and paid for. Unpacked and order was exactly as ordered including free scraps ( A Yorkshire treat ) The fish and chips ( and pies,I was told ) were EXCELLENT. Absolutely DELICIOUS ! Just a pity we live 300 miles away. Cannot rate the quality, quantity and service, highly enough. Well recommend Trevor

Food was average although we did wait a while for it but it was busy and that was no fault of the staff so we didn't mind that.. However, we were very disappointed to see the "manager" speaking to his staff in such a disgusting manner infront of all of the customers which was extremely unprofessional. Not only was that embarrassing for the member of staff but it was mainly down to poor management. That situation could have been handled differently and not infront of all of the customers.

The long queue of punters was deceptive as the food certainly wasn’t worth queuing up for. Poor quality, badly prepared and served with attitude.

The best fish and chips I've had in west wales so far. I had a great portion of fresh chips here with some succulent fish with cripsy batter. Now atleast I know where to get a decent chippy dinner from 🙂

Turned up at 7:30pm wanted a large order, was told I could only have what was already cooked to avoid waste. They wouldn’t cook to order even though they were open for another 30 minutes. Apparently have to turn the fans off so the fat cools down half an hour before closing! There wasn’t enough cooked for my order so I left without buying anything. Staff attitude was poor. Thankfully another chippie was prepared to cook my order and got our business instead. Won’t be going back to Contended Soul Narberth

One of the nicest chip shops I have been too. Portion sizes were great, cost spot on, service was 1st class, and the food was lovely. Highly recommend the pies which are made locally. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

What can I? Maybe it's time to change the oil. Chips weren't good. Taste of old oil Also had a battered sausage. Batter should be crispy, not like rubneed. A steak knife to cut the batter. Sausage inside is cold. Maybe they should try some of their food before selling it on to. unsuspecting members of the public. Won't be going there again.

The food is dreadful don't eat here if you want bad guts

Visited while staying in Narbeth, food was nice and staff were friendly.

Bought pie and chips x2 (21.09.23)the pie was like cardboard, dry with no taste same as chips, staff well what can I say uninterested, premises in desperately need of refurbishment, then to top it off a few hours later upset stomach and a few trips to the toilet 🚽🚽💩💩💩🧻🧻 would I recommend it DEFINITELY NOT.....

Excellent service,staff friendly, we got fish and peas and it was lovely but the fish was to big for me to eat,husband got the battered sausage, chips and gravy and he cleared the lot,said it was really nice food, definitely recommend if ya ever in the Narberth

Chips were a little on the hard side and tasted old, cod was ok but greasy, most of the menu was unavailable. Overall it was a bit disappointing but edible.

Curry sauce was like dark yellow water. Chips were hit and miss. My battered sausage was a dark orange and seemed to have been refried in comparison to my sons which was alot lighter in colour. My other son ordered a chicken burger which was a dry piece of breaded chicken with no sauce or salad offered. The roll wasn't even buttered. So a dry piece of chicken in between two drier pieces of bread.

Beautiful chips, nice fish and friendly service. We've tried a few chip shops in the area and found 'Contented Sole' to be the best.

So bad! Ordered jumbo sausage in batter, chips & beans. Sausage wasn't proper sausage. It was literally pink paste in a tasteless, doughy, cardboard batter! Chips & beans were ok and staff were pleasant but the sausage in batter was INEDIBLE!

We visited this place twice while on holiday. Its the best chippy I have had in years. The chips are delicious the peas were the best I've ever had. The staff in the evening are much more friendly than the ones in the day. We had batter bits specially made to go with the chips. I cant fault this chippy. I highly recommend. A bit expensive but worth it.

Closed and wasn’t even closing time I’ve had this some m many times with this place finsh work and there Closed and it’s not there designated closing time.

After visiting Contented Sole and filling my tummy with their absolutely delicious fish and chips, I was most definitely a Contented Soul 😋😊 The staff are very friendly and the prices reasonable. The fish is always freshly cooked - not left in the oven like in many other fish and chip shops and the chips are crisp and soft with an amazing morish flavour. I recently moved from London to Narberth and after experiencing the fish and chips from Contented Sole there is no way I would ever return to England again! Highly recommend.

Not even worth a 1 star. Possibly the worst fish & chips I've ever had. Cod batter was so thick and soggy, cod itself was full of large bones. Chicken nuggets were hard as rocks you could have broken your teeth on them. Battered sausage was so salty it was inedible, as was the curry sauce, in fact everything was inedible. Everything went straight in the bin bar the chips which were "ok". A complete waste of £23, and had to still find something else for our children to eat. Thoroughly disappointing and frustrating.

Yet again I've paid for items that have NOT been included in my order. For the fourth time now. I won't be coming here again.

Traditional fish and chips with a smile !

Very sorry, but tonight was first time in ages that I have been disappointed by badly cooked Fish and Chips. Not being personal here, because everyone needs to learn the tricks of the trade. As an exFryer, I think this could be changed. The oil has to be hot enough for whatever's being fried. Batter is hard, sausages are raw in middle because oil is not hot enough. Blanched chips are being served as they are. Par-cooked and full of oil. I have a feeling the fryers are being turned off when there are lulls between customers which means the oil is not at right temp when cooking orders. Comes to something when even my dog wouldn't eat the food. I am sorry about this because most days the food us good. Good luck for future

Awful chips, brown and overcooked and when we rang to complain we were met with the most awful customer service. It's such a shame because this used to be a nice chippy.

The chips are really nice here but haven't had anything else. Atmosphere-wise there's not much going on as it's quite a small space to sit down and eat.

Bought cornish pasty and chips, cornish pasty was cold and consisted of cold mashed potato and onion, really awful, no meat or other veg.

We could have looked past the staff being very rude (they were busy), we paid when we got overcharged 25% (maybe they hadn't updated the price on the menu), we were unhappy when it turned out we weren't even given the food we overpaid for (regular chips and small cod instead of both large, three fishbites instead of 5 and a sausage that wasn't battered), but after tasting the food we decided there is no point in going back here. Even for cheap food it is drenched in oil and unpleasant to eat. There are so many other options in narberth or a short drive away with lovely people who deserve it more.

I’ve been here many times the food is lovely however a staff member seemed very rude she was picking at her noes piercing before handling my order, she was very rude to her colleague who came from another room to help her and the colleague has served me many times and is a lovely young girl and is fast at serving.

Awful service, when asked if the food contained a common allergen, they said they didn't know, and weren't interested in fidning out. Dreadful, should be ashamed.

We waited 45mins for 2 meals in the cold (outside). The wait was horrendous. I believe the reason was due to staffing issues but there was no apology for the delay. Also, they got my order wrong so I had to return after 5mins to tell them which resulted in a future wait. Unlikely to return.

Not the best fish & chips I've ever had but also not the worst. Chips are fine but the fish has a rather stodgy, heavy batter. The fish within is good however. The portions are huge. We ordered 2 fish and 1 large chips but only managed to eat half the chips.

Under cooked chips, fish was not boned and they got my order wrong, I was the only person in the shop at the time so can't blame it on it been busy. Definitely wouldn't recommend

Very soggy batter, and chips not cooked enough. Worst fish and chips ever. We threw both lots in the bin. Fish meat itself wasn't too bad, but for some reason they seem to be taking the food out of the fryers far too early. Shame because staff were friendly enough. Love this establishment. It's busy here which is a good sign. Food is freshly fried and served with a smile. Definitely recommend the food from here and will be returning again. Parking can be a bit hit and miss in Narberth but a lap around the town will usually find a space.

Nice dinner, good fish and chips chips

Visited about 10 minutes before closing time so knew I'd be pushing my luck for a availability of the full menu. As soon as I entered I was asked if I wanted fish as they were just on the last of the batter, after that they weren't making any more fish as they were closing. The fryer was quite open that he wouldn't be starting to cook anything else that time of night. If it was already on the counter then that was the choice. Customers that came in after me were grumbling that there was no more fish and that they wouldn't cook any more, before leaving. What did the customers expect turning up a few minutes before closing! Some may describe the attitude of the fryer as rude; I didn't think so, it made me smile. He was just honest. And as a bonus the chips were great!

Called in to this fish and chip shop for a family takeaway. We ordered what we thought we wanted but the owner advised us that we were ordering too much. They do really big portions. He wasn't wrong. Even reducing the order we still couldn't eat it all, and we are big eaters. Delicious freshly cooked Fish and Chips, friendly, helpful and cheerful staff. Highly recommended.

I nipped in on my way home tonight to grab dinner. I've got home after a 20 minute drive and I've just got 2 portions of chips. The sausages are missing!! Also we opened the container with the pickled egg in and it had a black hair on it. The chips aren't very nice either so it was a massive disappointment and a waste of money. We won't be back ever again!

Not only did they mess up my order. When I asked if they put salt and viniger on my 3 lots of chips, they told me I didn't order that when I placed my order. Never have I ever had to order salt and viniger when ordering. This gets asked when they place it up. However they called me a lier when I said they never asked me, infront of other customers. Also the 2 other customers before me got asked when they dished up the order, like a normal fish and chip shop. Narberth chip shop is definitely not the same as it used to be, and customer service is well off. Kilgetty chip shop will always be my port of call from now on!

So went to get food massive que which is fine people had big orders. But the fact I watched a man cook the food and cough into his hands and over food and not wash them is absolutely shocking I shall be reporting this business. Common sense and food hygiene suggests this should not happen

Very fussy about my cod and chips. Staying at Bluestone and ventured out for Fridays tea. Excellent thick fresh white fish and decent chips too. Recommended.

Lots of bad reviews here but stopped today and just had a portion of chips . These were beautiful, just the right size portion , cooked to perfection and no excess grease , just lovely .

There were 5 people in front of me in the queue plus one inside. Waited 45 minutes to be served. Queued outside (no biggie) queued inside as the server was putting meals together for people who had ordered and then had to queue outside to...

How this takeaway still exists god only knows. The middle aged women who obviously run the place are so rude 😤 They really don't deserve my custom. Or yours!
