The Huxley in Edinburgh, City of

Could not cut my steak and un the end fave up. Said so when they cleared the table and later on was told that they tested the steak and took it off the menu and did mot charge me. That's what I call customer service.

We were looking to have a good breakfast before our departure, this is the ideal place. Very good, diverse choice and excellent waitress. I recommend ++++

Popped in for a drink after walking out of the 5 star establishment across the road after waiting for 15 minutes plus for no drinks to arrive and watching a mouse run across the floor in front of us. We were met with a warm welcome on arrival at the Huxley and were shown to a table immediately despite it being a busy Friday evening with no prior reservation. We told our server (Stewart) the story of our first attempt to get a drink at the other establishment which was meant to be a treat as it was our wedding anniversary. He took our drinks orders and brought our drinks over to us very quickly and a glass of Prosecco each on the house as it was our anniversary. Thank you Stewart! Great atmosphere, drinks and service

Lovely place and cosy atmosphere, however the customer service provided by one of your waitresses was terrible. Had total attitude towards our group of friends so unfortunately won't be back in a hurry.

This is a must-go-to!! Everything is homemade, presented with love and super good!! Staff super-friendly. Nice place. Gladly again and again... :-D

One word to start; Great! Like any tourist it's sometimes hard to find a good place to eat not knowing the lay of the land. We ended up in The Huxley by very good misfortune. We had actually stopped in a close-bye restaurant and got completely ignored (never got seated) so we decided to leave that restaurant and go to The Huxley instead. We were very happy with the choice. From food, to atmosphere to staff, it was the best in all 3 categories in all the restaurants we ate in, as we traveled for 2 weeks through out Scotland and Ireland. The food and drink was superb but what really made our stay was Charlotte. Charlotte was an engaged, pleasant person. She took care of all our needs, answered all the annoying tourist questions we came up with, put us at ease and made us enjoy our day in Edinburgh that much more. It has been two weeks since we were in The Huxley. Through all the hustle and bustle, traveling 200 miles aday and trying to get in as many sights as possible, Charlotte still stands out in my wife's and my memory to the point of requiring us to write this review. We wish Charlotte and The Huxley continued success and would highly recommend both to new customers.

Very nice young crowd in Edinburgh, breakfast top.

I wish they carried the Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger gin (not just the liqueur). Their trio of sliders is great, but it has been sold out a couple of times that I patronized the restaurant. Castle view side room is pretty amazing if you are lucky enough to get the spot.

Great Scotch breakfast, the only way to start the day in Edinburgh. Great service in a really relaxed environment. And a great people watching area as well.

Nice atmosphere, average food & service.

Food was great. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was good. The others in my group got eggs Benedict and the Brioche French toast and they loved their meals. The atmosphere is fantastic. Location is fantastic. Service was stellar and friendly as well. Monday morning about 9am is when we went.

Very good food in a really nice location inside and in a central location for Edinburgh. The service was not pleasant, the waiter added his 10% tip without request and made an unpleasant joke about Italians. Who knows if they know that 90% of what they cook is Italian.

Came here with the wife, popped in for lunch bite to eat. Passed many times and for no reason, just never came in. Always go to George street for drinks and eats. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt very welcome. The staff were welcoming and had big smiles to welcome us. Showed us to our table and took a drinks order. On the return asked our food order. The food arrived and was pipping hot and have to say, very tastey. There are tables up a stair from the street level, but plenty on the same level. Chairs are very comfortable, only slight thing is they are a little lower than normal for eating food. But that’s a bit pick. It was ok! I’m sure it’s a nice place to have a drink, and you can sit and watch the world pass by the windows. It’s Edinburgh prices, but worth it for the quality of food. Would we come here again? Definitely

We were in Edinburgh for the day visiting from up North as we try do a few times per year. It was very sunny and we really liked all the flowers outside the cafe so decided to sit and have a few drinks. Once we sat it was really awkward because we saw three waiters but nobody came up to us for 7 whole minutes (I know this because I’d just sent a txt message as we sat down). We tried to get the waiters attention and some even looked at us but there was no acknowledgement. Eventually a girl came over and I understand people can have bad days but it just seemed that she couldn’t be bothered with us. There was no smile or even polite chat, she just waited to see what we wanted. We ordered drinks which took another 6 7 minutes to come. Again no ‘do you need anything else’, she just left. My Prosecco was so flat as if it was the last glass, I did drink it because I didn’t want to make a fuss. The same waiter who served us, her friends must’ve been sitting besides us because she then decided to sit with them and eat and drink. Maybe she was finished or on her break I don’t know. But we then didn’t know who was meant to be serving us. We finished our drinks but again nobody came up to ask if we needed anything else. It wasn’t super busy either btw. We managed to flag down a guy and I asked for another Prosecco but asked if it was nearing the end of the bottle I would order something else because my last drink was flat. He went away and returned about 5 minutes later saying the reason for our drinks delay was because they were opening a new bottle. As if that was a huge deal and reason for a delay. We eventually got our drinks 10 minutes in total later. I just don’t really understand this place, cute spot decent decor but really slow and unfriendly service. I wouldn’t come back here again.

We had a drink here before heading upstairs for a meal at Kyloe. We had a window seat and our drinks were served at the table. Servers were efficient and friendly. The seating was comfortable.

Service was slooow, it seemed that the waiters were idle a lot but I had to ask for the receipt more than once and food took a long time. Food was mediocre at best. Burger was very small and salad wasn't very good. I was charged 10% service charge without them asking me about it, had they asked I wouldn't have given it. I felt a little scammed at these prices.

Used to be one of our go-to bars in edinburgh. Unfortunately, they have seen fit to change the seating and decor and have downgraded the ambience as a result. Service was very slow, we waited 25 minutes for our drinks order and then gave up and left. Not recommended.

The Huxley is a fun restaurant with many indoor and outdoor tables, with the former surrounded by comfortable chairs and loveseats. The food is delicious, especially the soups and the burgers. The service was rather slow, but perhaps this is just by American standards and may be normal for Europeans.

Had an amazing experience at the Huxley last week to celebrate my partners graduation party, which they were really accommodating for our large party and had really great service without coming to the table too often. The portion sizes were amazing here, even for the kids meals, and the highlights for everyone was the burgers, fish and chips and loaded fries, but a small portion of the loaded fries is plenty for 1 person. Just a word of warning for people that don’t love ‘steak cut chips’ as they are served very large on the fish and chips dish, which may not suit everyone’s tastes. We all had a great time visiting and will be definitely visiting again!

En direction de Dean village, petite pause repas et super surprise dans ce restaurant. Plats typique écossais excellent, savoureux copieux. Serveur à l'écoute.. Et bières ipa a déguster. Attention très copieux, et bon marché. On a prit 3 plats et cela suffit largement pour 2.

Breakfast tasty and reasonably priced

This restaurant, right outside our Hilton hotel, formerly the Waldorf Astoria, was very conveniently located. The fare was good, not excellent, and the service horrid. They served one of main courses to other guests which basically ruined our experience. They were apologetic and didn’t charge for that plate after it ultimately arrived.

Came here for some lunch and cocktails on a Saturday afternoon and it was really nice, loved the decor. I got fish tacos with cheesy fries, my brother and his friend got the chilli beef tamale pie and everything was really good. I got a great wine recommendation and the server was really friendly. Would definitely recommend :) we will visit again when we are back in Edinburgh

We love the Huxley! We have been to Edinburgh twice and gone both times. Our first time we stumbled upon it and were thoroughly impressed and our second time we made it a priority to go. The meals are delicious, the wait staff are friendly and the space is adorable.

I read the good reviews so I thought I would come and have my breakfast. After I was shown to my seat, it was 15 minutes before they took my order. I was about to walk out when the lady finally came to take my order. Once my order was in, the food didn’t take long to come out. I had a Carmel latte, which arrived warm, not hot and was stone cold by the time I was finished it. The eggs Benedict was nice, and satisfied my moaning tummy. A nice decorated cafe with a great atmosphere, I can see its appeal.

Stopped in for a light dinner on my own. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the most delicious Brisket roll and fries. There was plenty of fries and a fantastic roll with melt in the mouth brisket. I was quite full, wanted the smores pudding but decided against it as I thought it would be too much. The server suggested the kids portion and I am so glad I had it. I could have left with no pudding and never having it. His suggestion was perfect with the ideal pudding and a nice wee cocktail to round it off.

The Breakfast is great here and the tea is sooo good.

Staff was rude and breakfast was burnt out with bad burning bread taste. The atmosphere was alright and the decoration is really lovely.

When we first walked in, we were given dirty cups for tap water that were later replaced with another pair of smelly cup when we pointed out the dirty cups (one had clear lipstick marks on it). Then when we ordered our breakfast, we got burnt toast with the smashed avocado toast (the whole thing tasted burnt because the toast is the base). On top of that, the service was not very friendly.

Wow, wow & wow. Cannot recommend the Huxley high enough. Loaded fries with haggis and whiskey sauce - amazing, as well as cocktails and the fantastic decor and ambience. A special thanks to the wonderful waiters, Jack and the young lad who had just turned 18, sorry didn’t catch his name. Thanks also for the complimentary Prosecco for my birthday, a lovely and appreciated gesture.

Fantastic atmosphere, with adorable decor and seating. The outdoor seating area is cute and appealing; the seating indoors is also super cute and very comfortable. They also offer a bar area that is popular I was seated in a small room with a window that allowed a view of the castle, so that was absolutely picturesque. I had a glass of wine, sweet corn chowder, and a chicken salad. Everything was delicious; fresh and flavorful. The servers were attentive and very nice. Definitely would recommend

The Huxley in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a pub but add the rainbow. It’s bright and stylish and was right by my hotel in the historic West End. The interior is an eclectic blend of peach, green, and turquoise hues almost retro. We had their pick-3 dinner menu and chose the lasagna bites, cheesy fries, and fish tacos. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Huxley is a prime spot for people watching, thanks to its unbeatable views. I had fun. lol

Great vibes, good cocktail menu selection. The food menu was different from what I had seen online. Went with the fish tacos, unfortunately a bit over salted for me. Service was a bit slow but was at the lunch rush. Was surprised with a 10% service charge for the first time in town. £23 for tacos and a cocktail

My favourite after work Old Fashioned

Although this spot looks fancy shmansy on the outside, it’s quite reasonable for the location and food quality. Bobbie, our server, was phenomenal. She was on top of everything. Her service for our table was 10/10.

We went for breakfast and did not regret it. The options are many and all very good. The atmosphere is excellent. The toilets are clean. Prices are not cheap but worth it for the whole experience. You don't need to reserve a table and it opens earlier than the rest of the shops that serve breakfast.

This was a great place to sit outside and people watch on your way to the royal mile. The service was so friendly and the food was really, really good.

Friendly staff. Bright and airy. Went here for a late breakfast, and it didn't disappoint. Brought ramp out to allow me to access. The ramp access-for-all to the toilets is a very tight turn. You'll need help with an electric scooter to manoeuvre it round the bend. Manual scooter users should have no issue. Otherwise excellent.
