We visited last night and booked quite late notice, we have visited here before so roughly knew it was a great place. Staff are lovely, attentive and friendly. The food was lovely, pretty much traditional pub grub which is fantastic to see, we very much enjoyed our puddings to, particular the toffee apple crumble. It is a rather busy place so I’d recommend to book. We will definitely return again - and use the 10% off voucher you get with your bill, bonus! 🤩

Bee here before, but what a difference. It is now proffesional with good service. Menu is typical pub food, but all ok. We were shown to our table with menus and drinks order taken. Drinks came promptly and our food order taken. Food was good and hot. Bill was asked for and payment taken at the table. Would recommend.

Arrived at 2.45pm on a Monday and I scrutinised the notice outside about opening hours, to see that service for food was finishing at 3pm. I entered the bar to almost an empty area and the lady behind the bar seemed "under-enthusiastic" to see me plus no smile ( sorry Nicky! ). I can only assume that she thought I wanted food, not the case. I smiled and said "relax, I only want a swift pint" . I asked for a dimpled handle of "Otter Brewery Ale" and requested the way to the garden. Unfortunately this was denied as glass is not permitted outside, I therefore, took up a space in the near empty bar and enjoyed my pint, leaving soon after. The ale was good, the hospitality needs some work.

Friday night Walk-in, early doors with the kids, no issue being seated. Good variety on menu, and with kids menu. Good choice of veggie options, meals were lovely, staff helpful and polite. Would have given 5 stars, only downside was the chairs are really low and the tables are quite short, so we banged elbows a lot! Would def go back however.

Eaten here a few times. All in all good food. Most recent was for a Sunday Roast with family and friends. The only downside for us was the poor customer service, when we questioned an irregularity on the bill, the member of staff went to discuss with others, however if you are going to have that discussion, perhaps not do it directly in front of the customers and effectively make sly comments towards us. We were polite and courteous, when we highlighted our irregularity, so would expect the same in return.

Visited here one evening as we’d seen this prominent restaurant on our travels along the A35. Nice big carpark, but a shame there isn’t an entrance from the carpark itself (you have to walk round the front of the building to access it). Friendly enough service, but the interior was quite bland and uninspiring. Our starter of loaded nachos was very tasty with plenty of cheese and jalapeños. We both had burgers for our mains which weren’t especially big and came with a smattering of chips and some coleslaw (no salad). The gluten free burger option came with a very stodgy bun and lacking the onion rings that my husband had on his non-gf option. Very sparse on the Stilton cheese in mine too. Ok if you need something to eat late in the evening, but there were far better eateries in the local area.

We paid £40+ for a cold, hard jacket potato, some chicken nuggets and disappointing fish and chips. It’s dog friendly, which is great, but felt very cramped and could feel the glaring eyes of non dog owners. Definitely not worth the visit, and is very overpriced - have had better at a more reasonable price with friendlier staff.

My sister has lived 300 yards from this pub for over 25 years so I have visited often and always found food and service good. However on my sisters birthday 22.09.19 the food was adequate but the service was very poor 0ne meal was suppose to have had bread had to ask for it, had to ask for spoons to eat desert.did not get an ordered drink and would have liked coffee but was not offered. May be better on the week but would not go on a Sunday.

Four of us had an evening meal here which was mostly enjoyed by all. The steak, faggots and pork loin were all nice (the mustard mash that came with the pork was particularly delicious) but the seafood platter was lacking. The menu said it came with coleslaw but ours didn’t, though we only realised after we left. There was also a bone in the smoked salmon and the whole platter had no pizzazz it was just boring salad with salmon and prawns. The salted caramel cheesecake was really good. I have no complaints about the staff but we were the last table to leave and it definitely felt like they wanted us to go! The decor too wasn’t really for me.

Ate here recently and while the food was tasty and reasonably priced, it didn't feel as dog friendly as the sign proclaims it to be. Few of us had the lamb shank which although not the leanest piece of meat (but lamb isn't always) the mash and accompanying veg were cooked perfectly. We were however very much encouraged to sit in the lower bar (felt we were out of the way), and service was consequently perhaps slower than if we'd been welcomed into the main bar. There's a beer garden out back but lots of signs saying dogs not allowed on the grass, so it was absolutely unclear whether we could have sat out there with our pups or not? If you're visiting here without dogs I'm sure it may a five star, but for us, we wouldn't bother to go back - we've been welcomed more in other places.

We booked here for my birthday tea and overall we were sadly disappointed. On arrival we were seated on a table opposite the bar, as a family we would’ve preferred to have sat in the restaurant, it’s a shame when we booked we weren’t offered an option where to sit.It took a while for our drink and food order to be taken but overall we were happy with our mains, sadly it took a long time for our table to be cleared and pudding order to be taken, we just felt forgotten about all night. As for puddings 2 were fine but 2 of us had the chocolate fudge cake and it wasn’t great, very odd consistency. At the end of the night we just went to pay at the bar instead of waiting for the bill.

We ate here because it was convenient, we were staying at Charmouth C&CC; campsite and caught the bus from the stop outside the pub. This place had decent reviews so we choose it as a place to eat and we weren't disappointed. Plenty of choice on the menu, including specials, and both the quantity and quality were good. prices are reasonable, so it's pretty good value for money. Service was prompt without being rushed, staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative points as a couple were the lack of atmosphere, maybe to be expected at 6pm on a weekday and it's not a boozer, the emphasis is definitely on serving food. Understandable given it's location but it does detract a tiny bit from the experience. In a group, you wouldn't even notice.

Some reviews are very extreme, that is probably down to who is cooking. The place is not modern, or overly clean it’s a pub that does food. We had a much larger than expected meal and was of much better quality than we expected, the price was fair and the staff were pleasant. Sometimes when people review a place they seem to expect a life changing experience or they are not happy, that’s sometimes unfair, we had a better experience than we realistically expected so were happy.

Whilst appreciating that this is quite an old inn, it has at some past time been modernised, but it’s facilities are way behind modern standards. It has a huge car park, but no where are there any disabled spaces, I thought that was a legal requirement nowadays, and the entrance doors are two modern UPVC narrow doors, one of which was bolted shut making access very difficult through the single door, unless you’re conversant with the recessed bolts in this type of door and of course can reach them, which is not possible for many people with a disability.

One pint of local lager and a double pink Gordon’s gin and tonic all for 33 pounds. Served by very friendly staff, it was like an oasis in a desert. I'm no chef but surely a "gourmet burger" should be more than a dried up piece of meat slapped into a soggy bun along with tomato and onion sliced that thick it outshone the burger, and as for the chips ... when were they cooked and reheated?? Also do they really use instant mash and add mustard to it?? I left my meal after a few mouthfuls and told the staff i didn't like it but was not questioned further as she whipped my £10 burger back to the kitchen..must say the soup was good so should've stopped there!! I was more than happy to watch my kids finish there meal then leave.

We are regular Monday night Quiz go-ers and save our winnings to have a Christmas meal in December every year. We pre-booked the date and our meal choices on their Christmas meal form including one of our party who has a serious egg allergy and the chef kindly adapted the menu to suit her needs. The evening itself was very enjoyable, the food all came out hot and to the right person. All three courses were of a good standard and all the party enjoyed the meal. The restaurant had nice Christmas decorations too.The chef came out at the end to check our friend had enjoyed her egg free meal which was much appreciated. We will be back again next year for our Christmas Quiz Team night out! Thank you.

We were staying at Hawkchurch Spa Lodge but sadly missed evening dinner cut off at 8 on a Sunday so popped out to this place. Venue and staff were extremely friendly. Sadly food was not upto scratch. Considering we paid approx £50, my veggie burger was dry as if it had been sat around and just heated up, bun was not warm. Best thing were the chips. Just disappointing that when your paying good money for basic food you would expect something half decent.

I have just got back from taking my friend out for her birthday, I had mentioned when I rang and booked a table (highly recommend you do this) that I was bringing my friend for a birthday lunch, when we arrived our reserved table was decorated with birthday confetti and a happy birthday banner was on the wall by our table, such a thoughtful and delightful thing to do.

Popped in for lunch on the way home from Southampton. Having been on a cruise for 2 weeks we wanted something simple but tasty. As ever, we were not disappointed.

Great no nonsense food. Plenty of space, comfortable and surroundings. Good choice on the menu and a specials menu too. Well recommended.

Decided to try this place as we were passing by and so glad we did. Most tables were reserved for Sunday lunch but we managed to get a table for two. Food was delicious, especially the toffee apple crumble pie! The staff were really lovely and welcoming. Will definitely return but will probably book next time!

We had an excellent meal at Hunters Lodge on a Monday evening. There was a wide choice, including the veggie options we needed. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. Generous portions too.

Been twice in a week. Staying over nearby. Not great inside for 16th century coaching inn but good staff n v good food. Plentiful and tasty and reasonably priced. Great desserts. Decent local beer. £57 for two courses each and a bottle of wine which i think is good value

Lovely meal on a Saturday in November. A warm dry space out of the cold. On the first floor looking down on the main street, good for people watching. We had fish and chips, freshly cooked, katsu curry and the special of monkfish in a lobster sauce, all delicious. One bailies cheesecake. Recommend a visit. Patient service

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much
