The Hunloke Arms in North East Derbyshire

Good food, but OMG . how difficult was it to get a bill and pay for it. There's a QR code to scan on the table to get the bill.. then you pay by card This is a cashless establishment and heaven only knows how you go on if you don't have a smart phone, maybe it's free !! Our party included a couple of people who were older (89 and 78 ) and we were all trying to split the bill up on cards using a kind of app. They just didn't know what was going on and tried to pay their share in cash. Tbh I found this process unnecessarily complicated and frankly ridiculous . What's happened to our world, when you could have a good night out, nice food and just throw your share of cash on the table at the end of the evening It's a nice place, but it's nothing special, their one size fits all approach, with a sweeping assumption that everybody understands and can use their bizarre payment system is discrimatory. There absolutely has to be an option to pay in cash I won't recommend

The food Is decent and the salt and pepper chips are great. There was a bit of a bad atmosphere the night we visited with lots of arguing at a large table nearby us which isn't normally the case when we visit. The biggest letdown is the table service and lack of being waited on taking orders for drinks upon arrival and being seated and then again once the meal has arrived. A lively venue and looks very top-end, just the table service lets it down.

Great pizza, good selection of beers and a really nice vibrant atmosphere... Would recommend booking ahead if you want food as it gets busy.

Just been for lunch and It was my first ever visit and I have to say I was blown away. Myself and my boyfriend had the yakitori chicken sticks and they were incredible. The staff were all really friendly, We will definitely be coming back. 10/10 guys.

Any place where orders are taken on the app always lacks the personal touch - I’d ordered beef stroganoff it arrived and tasted like a curry - there was a huge amount of paprika in it and I have to presume the chef slipped when adding it. The rice was overcooked. Hubby had fish and chips which he said were fine. When asked if we had enjoyed the meal I did say that it was more like a curry!

First time coming and just wow. Lovely, lovely pub. It was absolutely packed and it’s easy to see why. The food was superb. Me and my partner shared the crispy chilli beef starter, she had a chicken burger, I had the BBQ yakitori stick and we shared a big cookie and they were lovely! Definitely recommend and definitely return.

Lovely little restaurant but the VEGAN options are pitiful. There used to be a few options but now there isn't even a vegan burger. Despite suggesting that alternatives are available for pizza, I was again (as happens every time) told that they had no vegan cheese. It's a frozen item. I had a very dry Paris pizza (mushrooms and spinach) without cheese. For dessert there are gelato cookies, and whilst they have gone to the trouble of sourcing a GF vegan cookie (which I haven't tried) they have not bothered to stock any ice cream to go with it. Again, a frozen item. Disappointed to not just see a lack of effort but a decrease in options. I want to come back but it is becoming difficult:(

Really love the hunloke arms it fits any occasion. The food is great, the ambience is delightful and they have an eye for class.

Went with family for Mother's Day breakfast. One of our party's order was messed up and when they eventually brought the food, after the rest of the party had finished, it was inedible and not what we ordered. No one came back to check on the table, we had to try and get a waitresses attention. The manager spoke to us and said nothing else to pay so we thought we were getting the cost knocked off the bill, but we had already paid £60 deposit so in fact only got free drinks! Very disappointed and spoiled what should have been a lovely surprise! Music needs turning down too, way too loud to have a conversation! Sorry Hunloke, but we won't be returning 😕

I little gem on the out skirts of Chesterfield

Brilliant find, you need to book though as this is very popular, and for good reason, the staff are extremely friendly, the food is awesome and the decor is to behold!!!! Great place!

Divine, great eatery and staff. Rustic atmosphere. Good music. We indulged and thoroughly enjoyed: Starters. Bao buns: Korean chicken, ginger, garlic, gochujang sauce, citrus mayo & coriander. & Bao Buns: Cured, slow cooked pork belly, wasabi mayo, kimchi, soy sauce, black sesame, fresh lime. Then. Starter: Small Yakitori sticks Cornflake chicken, sriracha mayo, black sesame seeds, fresh red chilli, mango chutney. & Jerk Beef Kofta, jerk style sauce, pineapple salsa, green chilli. Tip: Mains are very generous. Eyes bigger than tums!! Trio of mini burgers & Yakisoba.

Gorgeous place never let's us down

A pub that puts an original spin on the classic boozer, warm and inviting in winter and with plenty of outdoor seating in Summer. I'd definitely recommend giving the Hunloke a try, they offer a wide selection of beers and wine but I do wish they offered a Sunday lunch.

Food was fantastic, really nice atmosphere, will deffo be back! Service is however abit slow for drinks etc

Always a great place to go for food, weve been multipul time with family, friends or as a couple, great choice of food.

Normally love this place but went for a birthday meal and it was very disappointing. They couldn’t find our booking. Table was dark and draughty. Food was very average. Fish was over cooked and all batter. Stroganoff was grisly fillet and nothing like I’ve ever tasted before. More like a goulash. Couldn’t be bothered to stay for dessert and trying to pay whilst staff chatted and guests waited in a Queue did make me wonder if anyone is actually managing the place this month. So sad the standard has dropped dramatically.

Amazing place! Wanted to take the Mrs somewhere special and romantic. This is definitely the place!

Very disappointed as been a few times and this visit was a completely different experience. Bar staff talking whilst waiting to be served, plates probably on our table 30 mins after we’ve finished. Pizzas way over cooked. Very disappointed.

Had a lovely meal here, three of us had a mains and dessert with two having cocktails. Food tasted amazing, the dessert was scrumptious and the cocktails 🍸 delicious 😋. The service was professional and friendly. The overall atmosphere was busy with pleasant vibes.

Emily really looked after us this evening! The food was amazing and we felt really looked after.

Booked a table for my sister 60. We were left 45 minutes waiting for the table which was booked at 8.45 as the only table left therefore sat at 9.30. Gave us free garlic bread to compensate. My husband & sister had the fillet skewer which was tough. I had the Cajun chicken skewer that was nice. On paying the bill we got no bill just told the price on which I asked for a bill printed and we had been charged for the complimentary bread, then to be told we could only pay by card luckily I was the only one with a card this should be pointed out more clearly.The place is lovely but wouldn’t go back again😢

Poor service despite numerous staff milling around. Food was really good but the service is letting the place down. You shouldn't have to ask staff to clear plates away and take your own glasses to the bar.

This was our first visit to The Hunloke Arms and it certainly won't be our last, we were blown away as soon as we entered the building. The setting throughout the entire restaurant is superb and very well laid out with plenty of seating without making you feel cramped. The food myself and my partner had was nothing short of incredible, more than worth the price we paid. My only slightly negative thing to say was the service could have been slightly quicker but in fairness to the staff, the restaurant was packed out so I can only assume they were rushed off of their feet. This absolutely won't be our last visit and we can't wait to go back again!

Gorgeous food, I had a fillet and blue cheese open sandwich and my partner had a peppercorn fillet open sandwich, the steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were very good, our waitress was lovely and very attentive but not over the top like some places. The price was very reasonable and came to around £42 with a couple of drinks. Food came out surprisingly fast, I would recommend booking in advance as this place can get very busy at times. The only thing I would change if anything is the method used to pay the bill, you have to scan a code and pay on the pubs website but it doesn't work well and after having to manually enter the card details a couple of times and giving up, we managed to pay at the bar. They don't take cash, it would be much easier for them to come round with a contactless card reader. Great place though, it is also dog friendly in the pub section, visiting again next week!

Service slow.tai food nice, pizzas burned on one side,sloppy in middle.yakitori stiicks also burned.had to wait for guiness glasses to become available before we could be served ( 10 minutes ). Cannot justify £8.50 for sticky toffee pudding with baileys when it was so small likened to a childs portion. Theres better places to go.

Have eaten here a few times and always had a great experience. Really good food and service. Unfortunately I went recently for my mum's birthday with my sister, who has celiac disease and a dairy intolerance and the only meal available for her was a salad. Even just for gluten free there were only two options for main meals, but both of these had dairy. Really disappointing for such a large menu and that there was seemingly nothing the kitchen could do to adapt a meal to be suitable, other than offering plain chicken (at the cost of a full yakitori chicken meal). My nephew also wanted just a plain cheeseburger and despite having a few burgers on the menu, we weren't able to get one without all the add-ons, without paying for all the add-ons. I understand the reasoning but just a little disappointed with the lack of flexibility. Mostly disappointed to take my sister to somewhere I said was really nice and for her to only eat a few salad leaves and olives, and leave very hungry. Would definitely recommend eating here if you have no specific requirements. It really is great food, fantastic service and a lovely atmosphere. But avoid if you require any sort of flexibility with the menu or have allergies or intolerances.

Our many visits to the Hunloke Arms have always been exceptional. However tonight was disappointing. It commenced well with great service and tasty starters, followed by delicious main courses. After we had finished the main course the waitress came over to ask if we had enjoyed the food and asked if we would like desserts. We said, ‘yes please’ but she was interrupted by a couple on the next table asking for coffee. After waiting for some time we thought the waitress had forgotten us so I went to the bar to request a dessert menu. Again, we waited for a while, wondering if we were going to get served. Everyone seemed busy clearing tables etc. but still nothing happened and guests were leaving. It must have been over half an hour and still no service so we decided to just pay the bill and leave. So, no dessert, no coffee, and now we were having to wait to pay! We ended up going to the bar to pay but there was no reference to the deserts or whether we had enjoyed the meal. I hope this level of service does not become a habit.

Nice little country pub with an eclectic menu.

Second time visiting here, first time we couldn't fault it, food was spot on and service was good. This time we decided to try the pizza and garlic bread.....what to say....AMAZING....my wife and I had a pizza each and a garlic bread to share (little girl had kids battered chicken and chips). Food was delivered in good time, hot and presented nicely. We probably could have got away with one between us but where is the fun in that, both had a distinct taste and every ingredient was fresh. We had a cheese and chilli garlic bread, which I most definitely would recommend, I realise it's not a traditional choice but be brave and treat your taste buds. Atmosphere inside, added to by a quirky decor and warm feel was lovely. Inviting you to explore the menu and drinks on offer (which is vast). It can be busy but we chanced it each time and got a table in the bar area. Definitely recommend and will definitely be back. 18-02-25 - the chap working behind the bar around half two deserves a raise, he was very friendly and couldn't do more to help, entertained my young one and seemed to be doing everything as well as running the bar.

Delightful English pub at the edge of the peak district national park on Chesterfield outskirts. What better than a roaring fire on a cold winters evening in a wood bedecked pub. Excellent wood-fired pizza and drinks with a very well decorated upstairs that the Mrs loved. Added bonus that it's one of the few places the kitchen doesn't shut at 7:30pm in the area when we needed to eat a little later. Definitely recommend and will be back.

The food wasn’t quite as described I had the steak open sandwich with peppercorn sauce but the sauce came over the sandwich and it was saturated. I couldn’t taste the steak or onions. There were 9 of us. We spent £200. The service was okay. Would have liked a more welcoming vibe and smiles but they seemed stressed and busy. The bar didn’t have enough staff. The drinks were fine. We had cocktails and they were okay. The rest of the meals were good. Beef stroganoff good. The Thai curry wasn’t great and would not recommend.

Last night I had the Mongolian beef because it said fillet steak strips...was very fatty ..fillet steak doest have anything like that..told waitress she said aged tell chef..didn't hear anything...waisted money..place is lovely but went home hungry

Used to come here a lot and really enjoyed the food, but my visit at Christmas ended up with me seriously unwell from food poisoning, I have a seafood allergy ( I can eat fish it’s crustaceans I can’t have ) I was reassured it hasn’t been near any seafood… which can’t have been true. We came in for a family meal today, mum ordered the pizza which I know comes at a different time to the other meals but she got her pizza 25 mins before we got ours. The staff on were also really rude and patronising! Such a shame, as it used to be a lovely place to eat and great atmosphere :(

The food here was outstanding! Quality and quantity were 20/10. There was 7 of us and all the meals were very well enjoyed, such an interesting and diverse menu to chose from, pizza, traditional mains, Asian style foods, and the meat rack things, and burgers. Super cosy and quirky inside with lots of fairy lights and a blossom tree! I had the cabin chicken burger and cambert sharer, and both were amazing. I was gutted to be full for pudding. We ordered using the app, and it was delivered quickly despite being busy, but be careful we did end up some meals at the wrong time as we didn't do it right on the app. Big car park available, and the toilets were nice and clean and quirky with a rustic theme. Excellent choices of wines and beers, and we didn't have one, but I saw some of the cocktails, and wow, they looked incredible. They were huge and came with sweets, lol

Have been recommended this by 3 separate people and decided the 30 min drive was worth finding out what the fuss was about. Decoration = beautifully rustic and charming Atmosphere = busy and bustling but still nice and friendly Service = friendly and efficient (didn't have to wait long) Food = AMAZING. Yakitori kebabs were unreal. Pizza was the best my daughter has EVER had. Chicken lollipops were tasty and made of proper pieces of chicken. Portions were great - couldn't have starters of desserts. Cost was well worth it for the quality of the food. Will definitely be coming back.

Absolutely best restaurant/pub hands down in every aspect!

The food is fabulous so is the front of house and the establishment is beautiful. Bar staff could be more friendly and attentive by acknowledging patrons whilst they're waiting . It does tend to be females who are particularly unfriendly and service tends to be slow. The fabulous 'order at your table' system works when you log into their WiFi which should really be explained on your first visit or have an explanation at the table. We've become regulars here, it does tend to be the same each visit.

I really liked this restaurant and its layout inside, there's extra parking spaces behind the front car park, so don't drive off thinking it's full. The food was good, the service was good but we had to wait a long time for it to arrive as there were eight of us in our group and the restaurant was very busy at the time also, and the food didn't arrive at the same time, some of us were eating whilst others were still waiting, which made the food cold as it was awkward eating alone. We did raise the issue with the waitress who told the manager, who told us that there's only one person serving and that it was normal service times according to them. However, she took two dishes off our bill in the end. So do I recommend this restaurant? Yes, I do, but make sure they aren't running late with their cooking and serving times.

We came with a couple of friends in the summer. Paid for babysitters and ubers there and back so we could sample a couple of cocktails. Very disappointed to be told hardly any cocktails available due to no ice. The food was beautiful as was upstairs so would return again however we didn't get the best service we expected either. Left without cutlery and waiting and having to ask for a missing starter. Hopefully better next visit.

Took about 10 minutes to be seated and they didn't even seem that busy. They've changed it so you now have to order on your phone, makes it so unsociable and everyone's food arrives at different times because of this. Pizza was average, they've started skimping on cheese 😞 Atmosphere was nice though.

We had a lovely meal, the staff made you feel at home. Great atmosphere and warm.

2nd time here and would definitely come back. We have had hanging kebabs, katsu curry, burgers then a variety of different beers, ciders and gins. Really enjoy going, the atmosphere is amazing, love the fire too. Would always recommend.

Absolutely gorgeous and photo-worthy—perfect for a special evening. We ordered Chicken Gyoza, Honey, Chilli & Sesame Chips, Pulled Pork Bun, Southern Fried Chicken Burger, and fries. Everything was spot on except the SFC burger, which was a little soggy. But the rest? Delicious and perfectly cooked! The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. Overall, a great evening and a memorable birthday. Can’t wait to come back and try more! 🎉

Family of 5 visited tonight, the service was first class and the food exceptional. Sincerely recommend the Christmas dinner pizza!!

I love the Hunloke Arms..let me say that first..all previous meals have been excellent but.. My daughter and I came Thursday for the Christmas Turkey dinner. Firstly it came on 'cold' plates with cold dishes for the veg and gravy...and the food was either cold or luke warm. I really was nice about sending it back but we couldn't eat it so had to. The young girl apologised and said they would bring fresh... No...not fresh..it wasn't much warmer and neither were the containers. We were told it was fresh food, but the piece of turkey my daughter had taken a bite of, came back with the teeth marks. But they still insisted it was fresh. Nope it was even drier Turkey and me thinks they'd shown it the microwave. The veg...ie cabbage and sprouts were raw...not even Al dente. Yet the carrots and parsnips were well done. Same dish that had been taken away because the one dish with a red onion on top...came back with the same red onion on top. By this time we couldn't t eat it. And 75% was left...including the Turkey.. oh and the 8 pieces of pigs in blankets that commandeered the meal. Such a poor way to end our eagerly anticipated meal out. They were good enough to knock 50% off the meal meaning we only paid for one, but a decent meal would gave been better. I write this reluctantly as I have always previously had good meals but I've been poorly since the afternoon of the following day and I'd only eaten toast all day... Would I come again...maybe... and it's a big maybe. My daughter has said a definite no..you can't serve partly reheated food especially Turkey.. . Just as a side note, I booked well in advance for the blossom room, and even though it wasn't overly busy we were pushed into a little side room out of the way, with no atmosphere at all. We came for a Christmas vibe seeing as how we wanted the Christmas Turkey.. but I didn't like being sidelined out of9 the way. Do i love the place enough to return... maybe not. The whole night was ruined from start to finish....

Not a regular here as the menu isn't for me but I do like to come at Christmas for a festive turkey dinner. Despite booking in advance and it not being overly busy when we came, we were seated in a side room, out the way of any other diners. I ordered a lap land ice tea which was delicious and well presented. I ordered the turkey dinner and was left so disappointed. The vegetables in the side dish were stone cold. Felt the rest of the meal which was also cold. We had no choice but to send it back. When a replacement meal came it wasn't much better but least it was warmer ... I won't use the word hotter. The cabbage was raw, sprouts were hard but the carrot, parsnip and onion were well cooked. The turkey was extremely dry, roast potatoes were hard, dry and didn't appear fresh and there was a mountain of pigs in blankets. Not even the gloopy, luke warm gravy could save the dryness. On the plus side the small piece of stuffing was tasty. Most of the meal got left and it was not enjoyable. Usually suck things up and don't say anything but this was two meals bought out which were both poor. In total four inedible turkey dinners as we both had the same meal. The waitress was brilliant and no fault in her service. She was apologetic and offered 50% off the bill to rectify the issue. Nice gesture which was appreciated but I'd rather have paid and enjoyed a nice meal out in the run up to Christmas. It had already ruined the night by then

I met a friend who had travelled from Liverpool, for a catch up before she drove back there. Food was amazing really tasty as always. Staff were nice and friendly. Toilets were clean, parking accessible and plenty. However Cashless was off putting, I like to have the choice, working in a cash heavy industry I have cash on me and rarely use my cards, to not have the choice was not great. We also got asked to move from our table for 2 as it was needed, we had been there 90 minutes - there were easily 20 empty seats in the restaurant and more in the pub area, it was slightly bizarre, but we had finished our food, so we left to go somewhere else for a drink.

Food came out cold. Food was ok when replaced, but the plate it was served on were filthy, with ground on dirt so thick you could scrape it off. I'm sorry to say I don't think we will be going back again, which is a shame as it's always been good before.

Food absolutely awful, worst food I've ever add, even server agreed! Can't believe I agreed to even pay final bill of 8.70, they even got my soda water n lime wrong, my whole meal was inedible, sorry u guys, maybe u bad a nite..don't think I'll be coming back, my table next to me complained too their pizzas ad virtually no toppings n other table their burgers were dripping in fat, ???with? Won't recommend, felt like college newcomers had done the food defo NOT a designated chief chef, truly awful awful food, yuk !

Saw this pub recommended on TikTok and it looked great. Visited on a Saturday night without a booking but the hostess managed to squeeze us in. Ordered via QR code as the bar was understandably busy. The food was so good, I would definitely reorder the honey halloumi fries and chilli fries. Drinks are well priced too. Very nice all around, and wheelchair accessible too. Would return if I’m in the area again.

Loved this place! The Asian fusion menu is amazing. The portions and quality of food is great value for money. The atmosphere is warm and cosy and I love the touch of fur or cherry blossom aesthetics sprinkled around the place. Love it and would highly recommend. I'd also recommend booking a table in advance.

I liked the tapas style items. We had 3 tapas plus 2 sides and a pizza. All very good. Will definitely be back out to one of the other pubs in this small chain

Came to this lovely place in an amazing setting for a special Birthday celebration. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was just perfect 👌 The food was absolutely brilliant. The wood fired pizzas were massive!! And soooo tasty!! All the food we ordered was great. And the cocktails!! What can I say? The blood bath cocktail had to be tried. It was a funny experience and well worth it for the laughs. I would totally recommend this place if you're in the area or visiting like we were. 10 out of 10 from me 😎👌

This is an amazing looking place with service and food to match. The staff were attentive and friendly. I had the chilli-beef bao bun to start which was fantastic, each of our party all very much enjoyed their starters of camembert and belly pork yakitori sticks. The mains were a little hit and miss, but some of our party are particularly hard to please... I myself had the trio of mini sliders which were good, the chicken was a little dry and very salty. Very excited to come back to try more of the menu.

Excellent meal, loved the menu so different to the norm ie no scampi, hunters chicken etc ...brilliant

A real gem. Excellent food and good service, plus they made a special effort when they found we had got married the previous day. Lovely. Thanks to all.

Booked for a birthday treat, food was very delicious and plentiful, drinks were ok, a couple of mocktails, mine was lovely but my daughters was just basically ice with very little liquid. Very nice complimentary ice cream and a happy birthday message, that was a nice touch
