"The hungry shark" in Purbeck

Ordered main meals and drinks for 4. Asked for either sliced bread or bap burger bun in the side, which I was happy to pay for. They refused. They did have them in stock for breakfast sandwiches and burgers but wouldn’t sell me any. Very annoying. Burgers and fish and chips ordered was quite tasty.

Taste like a cheap burger van at restaurant price. Staff not friendly. Looks like a nice place to be but after spending £30 I wouldn't go back based on the staff being unwelcoming and rude. There's alot more food in the area for a better price and better quality.

Delicious fish and chips (I can’t remember nicer) - very light batter. Tasty burgers too and nice cocktails. Decor is kitsch but fun and very pleasant - good airy semi-indoor space if drizzly, and nice sea views if sunny.

Popped in here for a couple of burgers and a drink each. Very friendly staff welcomed us and took our order. There are lots of different cubby holes to sit in with a great view of the beach as you’re set up high. Would definitely recommend the chicken burger! The chips were amazing too 😋

Perfect stop whilst browsing the sea front. Good drink options, cocktails & quick bites.superb views over the beach & further. Nicely planned with small more private ares. Friendly service. Best Crazy golf courses on this site, so much effort into making them more fun & even educational in parts.

Nice and cozy, good views of the sea. Food came reasonably quickly, the menu was good and had good names. Generous portion size and nice and hot.

We visited The Hungry Shark as an impulse while walking past on a warm Easter Saturday and thought it would be a great place to get some Fish n Chips while overlooking the sea. We were not disappointed. We managed to get a table in the sunshine overlooking the sea. We ordered drinks including one cocktail, one cider and two soft drinks for the kids. The drink price was fair and comparable to pub prices. We then ordered our meals. They don’t do kids meals. Our two children are 8 and 10. They both managed an adult meal (with some help from Dad who took one for the team). The food was good “pub-grub” style something with chips in a basket. Burger and chips - 10 year old 5 word review - juicy, thick, meaty, good & nice. Chicken nuggets and chips 8 year old 5 word review - Soft, filling, better, than, McDonalds. The wife and I both had Cod and chips. We had a good portion without being gluttonous. The fish was tasty and they remove the skin which I find a big plus. The chips weren’t thick “chip shop” chips but slimmer cut. Still very tasty though. The big selling point was the location. The restaurant is very well themed with small private tables overlooking the beautiful bay. Gorgeous plants surround you as you sit in peace taking in the ambiance. The only mark down is the tables are small for 4 people to eat and the toilets are a bit of a hike. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

This place is in a great spot nestled in and around the ship wreck adventure golf, in like a tiki hut /ship wreck settings. It's really lovely sit and have drinks or food. Burger meals were good and at a fair price. Beer is inly bottles and cans although the sign appears as though they have Perroni on draft, they don't....naughty as that's why I went in the first place

Wow what an amazing experience. German is the best. Breakfast was delicious and the service was amazing. See German he will take care of you. I tried the chileaquiles Verdes and my wife the cowboy eggs it was amazing. Also try the Cadillac Margarita. Wow what a great experience. Thanks German

Favourite place for coffee (which is excellent), beer and people watching. Visited a couple times whilst in Swanage over bank holiday. Sat watching the world go by, a view of the beach and sea….. good coffee….. love this place. My husband never likes sitting for long, always wants to be up and off but not here. Here he will sit with a beer and just relax. There are lots of little ‘pods’, some covered and some not. Only had fries with drinks, wouldn’t really consider this an eatery as such. Just love the vibe and they leave you alone to just enjoy the views and I have to say it again, great coffee!!!! Can’t wait to visit again.

Read the reviews about the fish and chips and would agree the fish was lovely but the chips are skinny and frozen and dipped in a fryer - not the traditional chippy chips we were expecting. They do not do any curry/gravy/peas. They don’t do fish bites or battered sausage. They do not do kids portions. The Hungry Shark is a restaurant that does fish and chips/burgers and offers it’s menu as takeaway but at restaurant prices. So £15 for fish and chips - eat in or out. There are no takeaway cutlery. So if you want the seaside ‘Chippy’ experience - out of paper rather than polystyrene tray with all the chippy usuals, then the Hungry Shark is not the place. However if you want excellent fish then we’d recommend it.

This place is ridiculously priced, nearly £20 for fish & chips and a extremely weird tasting slushie. The fish was okay, but the chips are not chips, they were FRIES, with a side of lettuce, cucumber and tomato. VERY WEIRD! Absolute waste of money.

Have to admit walked past this place earlier in the day: not understanding what it actually had to offer: But Strolling back along the seafront was looking for a ‘bevi’ & saw the shaded table bar area on the 1st floor: ended up just sitting there taking in the scenery as the sun went down:) Definitely head back again

Come here for some lunch with friends was surprised how good the food was the chicken burger was delicious and reasonably priced, also serve alcohol which was a nice treat, we sat at table 4 which over looks the bay we had a amazing view will definitely be going back, staff so friendly aswell

To be honest we weren't expecting much with food next to crazy golf but the food and service was great. The scampi was incredible and my burger delicious. Cosy seating amazing views great for couples and families.

What a pleasant find .Full of nooks and cranies individuals or groups could all be in their own little bubble. Food amazing , good selection and reasonable priced.The mocha was so good we all had another round best ever while sat in shelter watching world go bye. Very pleasant couple of hours.will be back soon.

My husband and I had a pit stop here after playing pirates golf. Great place for a beer glass of wine watching the views of Swanage bay. Lovely little cabanas to sit in private some sheltered from the elements. We ordered a veggie burger with cheese and a seafood platter both were very good plenty of chips with a good sized salad. It had the feeling of being abroad somewhere in the Caribbean! Lovely place well done!

Absolute rip off. £33 for 2x tiny pieces of cod, coke and a cup of tea. The cod tastes nothing like cod and the chips are also straight out of the freezer. Rubbish! Went back there to complain and they laughed saying I don’t have enough money to eat there, guess that says it all. Rip off for sure

We stopped here one afternoon for a coffee break. This is a little gem with loads of character and views across to the sea. We didn't go in the evening, but I imagine it's a hive of activity. Lots of small 'alcove' areas for privacy, if wanted, as well.

Very nice place to watch the world go by with a drink and light bite to eat. There was plenty of seating available. The service from the staff was good and the food we orders was cooked lovely. Would definitely recommend to anybody who is in the area.

We had a meal for 3 here. There are good seating options outside with a nice view. The food ended up being quite good. My burger was tasty and the others enjoyed their fish and chips.

We were struggling to find somewhere on a rainy day when we wanted to sit outside. Then we found this place! It’s not what it appears from outside so don’t let the neon put you off. The cubby areas are sheltered but you can still see the sea, and they’re very private.The fish and chips were really lovely, fresh and the batter was so light, almost like a tempura batter. We’re from Whitstable and her fussy about our fish but can honestly say this fish and chips was wonderful. Staff helpful and efficient too.

Decided to have lunch here as a lovely view over the beach. What we didn’t expect was how nice the food would be!Had wholetail scampi and chips which was delicious, lovely thin and crispy batter with sweet chilli and tartare sauce. A fab location for lunch or a drink.

I don't usually opt for fish and chips as I'm not keen on the slimy layer of batter you often get, but this cod was so tasty with a fabulous crispy batter, accompanied by great chips and a bit of salad. For a tenner, it was good value too! Sea view location with different levels and alcoves, we'll be back?

Fish and chips was great. I personally had the Seafood platter which was fab. All the tables were separated in little alcoves and cabins. Great location above the seafront. (4 adults and our 8 year old)

Over priced cheap food. Can get a better burger from the back of a van. Not covid aware. No social distancing and the table was filthy (had to clean it ourselves) and there was cobwebs everywhere. Lots of flys in the kitchen.

Very helpful and happy staff, the food was great my wife had a chicken burger, which in her words was excellent . I had a hot dog with onions fantastic.

Visited this great place for dinner on our last evening in Swanage and what a great place it is. Extremely Covid safe and really fab staff. We were greeted even before we sat down by the lovely Steph who was brilliant. She was constantly sanitising her hands and on the ball with everyone’s needs. My son gets very nervous in restaurants and is such a fussy eater so we usually feed him before we go out but with Steph and Royce serving us nothing was too much trouble for them and our 7 year old received his gourmet burger bun (no burger, butter, not toasted, no lettuce etc) and he was over the moon. Really lovely place to eat, great food with great music and atmosphere. Having previously been to a pub that wasn’t covid friendly we were really happy. We will definitely go back. Thanks Guys

What an amazing place! We arrived in Swanage to celebrate a 70th birthday. There was a mix up in our party (my fault) and we had nowhere to eat. Resigning ourselves to chips on the prom, we asked if there was room for our party of 10. They gave us a private area, with a great waitress. And the food was A-MAY-ZING! Steph even listened to my bad jokes and laughed at all the right places! Thanks for saving the day.

We were originally one of the first to review this restaurant and gave it 5 stars a few years ago. We eat hear every year and the standards are still as high.

Great food but no toilets! They expect you to use public toilets and if they are shut then tough! No help and they are happy to serve alcohol and dinner with a sit down service but you will be stuck. Appalling.

Popped into this eatery after long day if walking and sightseeing. Found a lovely booth that had a view of the sea. Not a very big menu to choose from but the food was really tasty and not too expensive.

Really please we found this place, my first meal out after lockdown. Definitely a hidden gem, so relaxing I feel like I am in Spain on holiday.

We always make a point of having an evening meal at the Hungry Shark on our annual visits to Swanage, and it never disappoints - if anything, it seems to have got even better!It would be easy not to notice it at first perched up just above the main beach, next to the Jurassic World children’s play area - but once you enter, it’s lovely alfresco ambience welcomes you in.It’s cosy and you can actually see the sea of course - it feels very romantic, and has an atmosphere that’s unique compared to the more traditional pubs & restaurants nearby.Each table is in its own spacious alcove, where you’re surrounded by flowers and the sounds of the ocean.It seems to have had a refurb since our visit last year, and feels slightly bigger too. It used to be quite a ‘casual’ dining place (where my partner and I would share one portion of fish & chips), but how has become a bit more ‘restauranty’, which is no bad thing.There’s a lovely seafood menu to suit all tastes, plus burgers and the usual British fayre.Our meals were absolutely lovely - beautifully presented, and not too big too with too many fries!The staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s a real homeliness about the place too.It wasn’t especially busy on our visit - we were quite happy, as we prefer it like that, but it does seem that lots of people are maybe missing out on this hidden gem!We really enjoyed our evening under the stars, and can’t wait to come back next time.Thanks to the staff for making our visit such an enjoyable one!

Chose the Hungry Shark after failing to find a table for my family on the August Bank Holiday weekend, and really glad we did. Awesome burgers, great value and super swift, friendly service. Can only recommend. We will be returning!

Nearly missed this amazing place due to its location. (Next to amusements) however soooooo glad we found it. Well priced and massive portions that are well presented and cooked. Not sure I want to give it such a good review as want to keep it for myself lol. The location. Is great with lots of little “cubby” areas where you can eat without other diners on top of you. A great place that is well worth a visit - I should imagine a lovely spot to watch the sun set, rise or just hang about in the sky.

Not often i can’t finish a burger but the food here is awesome. Mrs had Rodeo burger should be changed to the Monster burger as it’s huge, I had usual Bacon Cheeseburger which was excellent and unusually had 2 slice of thick bacon yummy.DD was pleased with her hot dog as had longed for one all week.Highly recommend for lunch!!

A little dubious, to visit a cafe located at the sea front funfair, but what a pleasant surprise! The cute cosy decor, with private booths and lovely sea views, was matched by the great food. This place offers the familiar nuggets, fish n chips and burgers menu, but they deliver exceptionally well. A polite, friendly and efficient team made our lunch just perfect. Thanks guys!

Tucked away by the Santa Fe Fun Park with great views across Swanage Bay. The food was very very good, service was prompt despite it being busy. It was a nice day but it probably works in poorer weather too as it's quite sheltered.I would definitely go back. The Hungry Shark does what it does very well and deserves to succeed. The seafood platter was excellent.

We thought we had found a real gem here and visited regularly, but it sadly turns out that the staff are impersonal and inflexible. We have since become vegetarian and I can’t see anything except tea and coffee on the menu that we can eat! So, we don’t visit often anymore and I am sure they will not be missing us!

Considering this is so close to the front, it’s tucked away and is nice and quiet, the decor makes it a cosier more sheltered experience! Food is lovely and the prices are very reasonable! Highly recommended!

This place is a hidden gem well kept lovely piped music felt we were in the Caribbean. The food and drink we’re good. The staff were tidying up all the time the views were amazing recommend

I've been coming to swanage since I was a young child, every year with my parents and now I have a little boy of my own who I bring once a year and will continue to do so. the hungry shark is by far the best place to eat and relax with its sea view. the fact that it is also right next to santafe fun park is fab . love coming here and will continue to do so .

A quaint little family run business offering bottled drinks and food

After finishing work my friend and I decided to go for something to eat , we decided on the Hungry Shark for a change . We were so glad we did . We chose fish and chips and it was excellent !! Some of the best fish and chips in town for sure and we will certainly be going back again .

Having lived in Swanage for many years and eaten in lots of places we thought we would try the Hungry Shark. It did not disappoint, it was freshly cooked the fish was large and the chips were good, with a bit of salad and tartar sauce. The young man who served us was pleasant and bought the food to our table. The little booths to sit in were perfect out of the wind but with the view of the beach. Will go again

Stumbled across this on my family trip to Swanage. beautiful spot looking over Swanage bay! I seen it advertised saying best burgers in town and they wasn’t joking!! I had the rodeo burger best I have ever tasted! Can’t wait to come here again and try what else they have to offer! With a great selection of drinks to! Definitely our new favourite place to visit!!

Lovely little place amateurishly put together. Pity you need to order from a small kiosk, serve yourself from the Kiosk with hot drinks then get your own milk sugar and food implements from another small table. Not very welcoming and basically unprofessional

My 2 teenagers went off for a wonder while me and my other half had some lunch and coffee. Chicken burger was lovely. Coffee was amazing! I had to have another. We sat overlooking the coastline with great views. Lots of outdoor space with some covered areas. Food, coffees and alcohol served here. Friendly helpful staff.

Burgers are tasty and filling, location great and the guy cooking and serving was friendly and polite, even though he was on his own when 9 of us turned up! The food came out in good time, but the drinks were rather expensive.

I took my daughter here at the weekend - we chose it for the lovely view. It was gorgeous sitting on the terrace, but when the (very expensive) food came, it was really awful. A disgusting, tasteless frozen veggie burger with horrible sloppy onions, and some greasy supermarket scampi. Really not worth the over 20 quid I paid for two dishes. Also, I found the staff really unfriendly and dismissive, it was half 11 am on a Saturday and they clearly couldn't be bothered to smile. I would very much not recommend this place - it's a total tourist trap. Drive out and find a nice country pub with proper food!

I couldn't recommend it more! These guys know their stuff :) The portions were big and very flavoursome. We were 5 adults and 3 children and everyone was happy with the food. We had had Fish& Chips in other places, but our favourite was definitely the one they serve. Totally recommend.

A unique quirky seating layout, tables are in secluded areas separated with screens and plants. The food was great and friendly service. Would recommend.

Had a great meal here, cooked to perfection & the staff were just as delightful, ordered my Scampi but with no chips & this was not a problem, it was also a great place to sit & enjoy the sea.

A quite cosy up steps booth setup on the promenade , the fish and chips where very tasty and above average for Swanage, even though the exterior is like the amusement park that it sits in don't be put off. You will eat well for a not overly expensive price considering Seaside restaurants do mostly have a premium price attached..

Took a bus trip from Bournemouth to Swanage, spectacular views and then dropped in the town centre. Asked a local lady who was collected for the recent international disaster where the best fish and chip shop was. Always good to ask a local. After a quick walk round, I decided to get a take-away and get the bus back to Bournemouth. The proprietor could not have been more helpful, welcoming and accommodating. If I had been less tired, I would have sat in his lovely open air restaurant and eaten there (next time). However, what fresh and delicious fish and chips - best I have eaten in a long time. The batter was crisp, and delicious. The fish fresh, succulent, and the chips... mmmmh so lovely. I will definitely be returning to The hungry shark in the future. First class customer service. Young man you will make Swanage proud!

Tried this place for burger. Good value. Good variety. Tasty and an unusual seating area that works well for outdoor eating. Bottled beer a little expensive but worth a try. Surprised to find it open on a sunny day in November but in the summer you might find it hard to get a seat so takeaway a good option.

After reading other reviews we decided to visit The Hungry Shark, hoping for 'the best burgers in town'. It really should be stressed that this is essentially a fast food restaurant, which happens to have great views over Swanage bay and quirky seating arrangements. The burger I had was greasy and over-flavoured with a barbecue sauce. The veggie burger my husband had was a frozen one which can be brought in any supermarket. Both had a very generous portion of iceberg lettuce! Having said that the person serving/doing the cooking was very pleasant and efficient and the view is amazing.

Fabulous fish, chips and salad overlooking a beautiful view. Excellent service and staff friendly, helpful and polite. A great place for the whole family.

Had dinner at the hungry shark tonight. Was a bit fun getting the buggy in but just enough room by the booths. Felt like a proper "surf shack" type place. Very helpful staff and lovely food. Fish and chips was amazing but think I should of gone for the burger as that looked immense (the wife had that). Will he back to get my own burger soon.

This is a great place for a better than normal 'fast food' type meal. Well organised, some nice little 'booths' to sit in and the staff work hard to give a great service. The best meal we had in Swanage!

A great seafood place overlooking Swannage seaside. I had a very yummy seafood basket. The outside tables have a range of shade or open air, and everyone looked like they were having a great time. This is a great place for lunch away from the crowds but still enjoying the view.

We saw this place during the carnaval week but it was very busy. So we went back there today 5/8/18. Yes its a fast food outlet but with small nooks to sit with great views across Swanage bay. At first i thought they were a little pricey but after experiancing the taste and quailty of the food I'd happily recomend it to anyone. We will go back. Many times i expect.

Dropped in to get some lunch and we were amazed by the quality. Food is cooked to order and the quantity did not disappoint. Such a lovely location set above the prom and even though it is next to the amusements the atmosphere makes you forget. Truly an amazing lunch.

Not at all what you'd expect of an eaterie in an amusement area. The area facing the sea is very attractive with plants and fairy lights. Lovely view over the bay. Menu was limited but nicely cooked. I had the Hawaiin burger which was lovely. Just sorry, our friends didn't want to go back there the following evening.

found this place on trip advisor and thought we would give it ago! came here with my son I had seafood platter was all cooked fresh and delicious, my son had kiddies nuggets! lovely atmosphere with these cute little garden huts, must give this place a go well worth it

Came across this lovely little botanical garden situated next to the kids play park! Just a short walk up the steps from the seafront, and wow what a place. Me and my wife ordered the cod & chips, everything is cooked to order so very fresh and probably hands down the best fish & chips I’ve ever eaten! Staff very friendly,. Got talking to the guy when they wasn’t busy and he said he spends he’s “hard earned time and effort for peoples enjoyment”! would defiantly recommend this little place if you are visiting Swanage

We came on the train from Corfe and when we arrived it was lunch time. It was raining in Swanage when we arrived and so after walking a short distance to the sea front we came across this unique little cafe which had a lot of outside seating but a lot under cover. We ordered sausage baps and cheesy chips and my son in law had the burger. The man was cooking on his own but in all fairness the food was served up quickly and was really good tasting and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Het is eigenlijk een veredelde snackbar met terras met prachtig uitzicht. De Fish and chips was prima. Ook hier moesten we aan de bar bestellen en betalen waarna het eten aan de tafel werd geserveerd.
