The Salt Pig kindly, twice now, have been able to provide food for visiting theatre companies for us at The Mowlem. They are always incredibly helpful, kind and the food was some of the best stuff I’ve certainly had for a while. Quality dish, quality people!

A wonderful, small restaurant with delicious food. A short but interesting menu using fresh locacal produce. We (couple) had mixed bruschetta to share to start, followed by the lamb and the pork chop. The meat dishes, in particular, were superb - some of the best plates of food we have had.

Great atmosphere, staff were professional and attentive. We had the roast Pork, amazing!! Large portions

This is a little gem, it is quite expensive but the food is amazing and the portions are huge, would highly recommend, I would recommend sharing a starter (between 2) as it was pretty much a main course in itself!

Really good river trout and food overall, with generous portions. I got in because it smelled good and it was worth it. Strongly recommend (dogs are allowed)

food was great, lovely waitress but first seated at front of restaurant next to the till, ( only people in restaurant) asked to move table, put right at the back by the loo 🥺 few more people came in but still plenty of nicer tables empty. spoiled the evening.

Liked that the main menu board was for the mains and included one or two sides, and there was another menu board for the sides. It allowed you to build the food you wanted.

Form over substance. A trendy looking place, selling fresh fish and cuts of meat, as well as a cafe. However the breakfast was disappointing, going for poached eggs and avocado should be a safe choice, but not when it appears the chef doesn't know how to poach an egg. Sorry, harsh but true. Solid yock and disintegrated white, even our waitress said "it's had a hard life"!

Always a great experience here with excellent food well cooked and reasonably priced.

I had the steak and also tried the pulled pork and pork chop, the whole group were beyond happy! Pulled pork had amazing flavour. Desert was delightful too. Highly recommend this restaurant and as a big foodie, I'd invest in opening one up in my hometown if I could! Come to Oxford please!!

I had a beef goulash, which I thought would be in a lovely sauce. Mine was dry without any sauce to speak of. My wife had the salad bowl, which had the overwhelming taste of raw onion and little else.

We ordered food from the carvery style cabinet at the front where you choose a main plus 2 sides. I was disappointed with the meal because it was barely warm and the meat was dry although it had a good taste. The parsnips were only half cooked and we had to return them and we're given another side dish.

Absolutely loved the food here. Very large plates but the food was gorgeous. We tried to go back the next night but it was full!

We decided to celebrate our 30th anniversary here whilst on a weeks stay in Swanage and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Ate here after going to the sister restaurant in Wareham and having a wonderful time. Food was almost identical but today's experience shows how important choosing a truly welcoming front of house team is for a business.

I would like to talk to James the owner about our experience tonight with friends. We were treated poorly and the food & drinks was not good. The Manager Chris was offensive and led us to leave early.

We booked as we heard so many good things about the food and service. What a disappointment from arrival! We had specified we had a dog with us and requested if possible to be put so we were out of the way, the table originally suggested was central in the restaurant and essentially bar stools. I asked to be moved, noting there were several free tables without reservation signs and was huffed at by the member of staff seating us not the best first impression. I even apologised and said we asked to be seated out of the way due to our dog also. Ordering took a while even just to get drinks. We ordered the special pork chop and a venison pie. The pie was tasteless and watery and the meat was very dry (when you could find any!) The pork chop had barely had the fat even cooked through we expected the fat but to the point you couldn't even try it. Would never visit again and definitely would not recommend such a disappointing dinner & service. ** Additional comment in response to restaurant reply - All of our issues listed above were reported back to the staff members on that evening. I actually had to wave at them to check back on us, so I could bring our issues to their attention. At which point the pitiful offer changing the food to wait to be further disappointed made matters worse. The offer of free vegetables given the overall experience was totally insignificant.

We love to holiday in Swanage and also experience the traditional restaurants/pubs BUT found this place and was smitten! Charcuterie that you can choose...locally sourced cold meats and cheeses with delicious sides to compliment and a fine choice of wines. The Salt Pig Too has a wonderful ambience, probably due to the sharing experiences on each table. The garden shed toilet is worth a visit too;)

Had a charcutere and cheese platter with lots of bread, crackers, humous, olives, stuffed vine leaves. Absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. All local produce and local beer and cider.

Very nice. Enjoy your meal. Sometimes there are cold platters with a selection of cheese and sausages from the region! Everyone is very nice there!

Quite a nice environment but wouldn't go back. We went on a Friday evening and there was hardly any choice on the cuts n catches. Essentially, all that was available was cheese and meats. There certainly wasn't "much more" as stated on the menu.

First impressions were the cheerful and caring staff and good atmosphere. Sarah looked after us and recommended the specials on the board all freshly prepared. We had the beef bourgignon and vegetable burrito and two sides of vegetables each. Washed down with local beers.

Food wasn't that hot, it was just OK, portion was just about enough. Wedges were more warm potato slices. Looks and sounds like it will be better than it was. By no means terrible, just left a little underwhelmed.

The place looks more South African than English and is a nice change to the usual pubs. Beware all food is cold except the extras. The food is good and the service too. Only the prices are high consdiering you do not need a chef just somebody who carves the meet, cheese etc.

We booked a year ago after fabulous previous dinners, only to find no hot food or the meat it was famous for. Only grazing platters available. What a big disappointment. We didn’t bother so I can’t recommend it

I was recommended this place, but was very disappointed. Ordered Beef Brisket and on one piece of brisket I had more fat than meat. Spoke to staff but they didn't seem to care. Service was painfully slow and had to ask for steak knives. The table adjacent had the same issues, so not just us. Won't recommend to others and won't visit again.

Well what can we say other than scrummy! It has taken a year to finally get to eat at the restaurant and expectations were very high. We were not disappointed, the food was out of this world, bursting with flavour. The staff very very friendly and welcoming and the chef was more than happy to chat about the food and any dietary issues. The meal was over way too soon but we were left satisfied and thinking about when we could come again. Highly recommended

Fantastic sausage roll, excellent breakfast burrito, veggie quiche and selection of fresh salads. Came back a few times and food did not disappoint BUT service was very poor, with young teenagers paying no attention whatsoever on what was happening in the room / also got the order wrong. Some customers left without ordering!

Very disappointed. The website does not make it clear that dinner is no longer served. It mentions serving platters but as someone who has visited a few times in the past and have had a "proper" evening meal served, it was a real shock to turn up on a Saturday evening to a platter of cold meat and cheese served with a few crackers and bread. Whist all very nice would definitely NOT have gone there for an adult family meal for 6. While I will go for the daytime salad bar, I won't be going back for an evening meal as its no longer a restaurant.

Avoid serious staff attitude problem. We were looking to have an eat in breakfast (Monday 24th jul) waited to be seated at the “wait here” sign.. we were told go find a table. We were given a menu and we waited, and waited.. we arrived at 10.40 and noted breakfast service finished at 11.00 so made our selection quickly. After waiting over 10 min I went to the counter and asked if I could place the order and was told by a young female server “NO” it’s table service only. I said we are ready to order, she turned around and continued to eat a croissant she was eating next to the coffee machine, the conversation she was having was obviously for more important than serving customers. The restaurant was not that busy.. after a further 5 min still nothing getting close to the 11.00 breakfast curfew we decided the chances of getting what we wanted was not looking good… we stood up and walked out, the server with the attitude did nothing to put things right, she just stared at us as we left. Message to the manager. I strongly recommend you train your staff, if she was on a break maybe eat it out the way, feeding her face is obviously more important that feeding paying customers. To the public reading this pass this place by, there are far more customer friendly places around.

Food was generally good quality (with the exception of the bone in the burrito!) but service was unattentive and slow.

This looked just the place I was looking for but then discovered they don’t do gluten free food other than a fish pie! I could hardly take that away to eat on the seafront As a visitor to Swanage I am finding that this town simply does not cater or welcome coeliacs

Slightly disappointed as when we arrived we were given basically menus for tapas. When I asked for any other menu, I was told they were short staffed in the kitchen and this was what they were serving. Can I suggest that the web site reflects this as when I booked about a week ago it said nothing about a change of menu.

OMG! Amazing experience of Food, atmosphere and hospitality. Food was phenomenal and absolutely delicious, wide range of sides for each dish. Highly recommended to anyone visiting city. Quite close to station.

I thought the food was very tasty and the service was polite and friendly; however £21. 50 for some lasagne and salad and a beer with lemonade to make a shandy is pretty exorbitant! Is this the new world since Covid and Brexit?

Definitely a hidden gem. The full english breakfasts are always phenomenal but today I felt like something a bit different. Waffles and bacon with syrup caught my eye and I'm so glad it did. Absolutely beautiful. Staff are always friendly but you need to make sure you get here early or book as it can pack out pretty quick!

How disappointing the Salt Pig Too has changed its menu :( No chef needed to prepare a cold cheese and cold meats platter. It has only just changed to this so hopefully they may learn and return to their better menus. They did message and let us know of the change, but to then find somewhere else on Jazz Festival weekend for 5 wouldn’t really be possible. Such a shame.

Went for breakfast and very disappointed. Ok if you prefer quantity over quality. Huge breakfast, but not the best taste, and no flexibility when we requested a smaller breakfast.

You must eat here but book table to avoid disappointment!. Fantastic Sunday roast lunch with extremely generous portions of meat + lots of veg wonderful staff- Waitress Meghan was a delight & the Chefs were brilliant at accommodating strict Gluten free needs of Coeliac diet-( my husband got my massive Yorkshire pudding too so his plate was overflowing!). All at very reasonable prices in modest but comfortable surroundings. Also dog friendly! Highly recommend indeed.

Amazing. Was very tasty. Homemade burger sauce was great even got the recipe from the chef. 13/3/23 Went back for a breakfast 2/6/23 and it was still great. Loved the service from the guy who had scratched his eye. Pirate man deserves a pay rise after he sorts out his coffee art.

We've been here a few times for breakfast and the food has always been lovely. We ate here yesterday and ordered three waffles with bacon and maple syrup and one full English. The waffles were lovely but the accompanying bacon was 90% flacid fat. This was the same with the fry up unfortunately. What bacon that was there was pretty tasteless. We were towards the end of breakfast service (1040am) so not sure if that was the reason. Saying that it was dog friendly and our waitress was friendly and helpful, just the food was a bit of a let down on this occasion.

Good atmosphere, nice venue and pleasant service for breakfast. I was a bit underwhelmed with the breakfast and surprised to get potatoes. The black coffee was great. I like their fresh meat and fish and Mikey is great explaining all the best stuff. We need to try an evening meal to give it justice.

Lovely place to eat with I'm on holiday atmosphere, staff very friendly and final touches to meals done in front of you which is a good touch. Worth booking though to avoid disappointment , we were lucky as they had just had a cancellation, so pleased we went and will definitely go again 😀

Unfortunately, the focus on provenance is not matched by the kitchen skills on display. The lamb ribs were fatty and chewy (why not crisp them up a bit and render some fat down in that impressive oven?), the beef fat chips were undercooked, nothing was seasoned and the crackers with the cheese board were soft. That said, the atmosphere was good and service attentive and friendly. A bit of attention to detail and it could be a classic, but, as it stands, it's a case of great idea, poor execution.

I highly recommend a visit to the salt pig too. My husband and I visited on a Thursday evening and it was full. Great atmosphere. We had the fish cake special to start which was very flavourful and enough for us both to share. My husband and I both had the chuck eye steak for main. Mine was absolutely delicious, cooked sous vide and then chargrilled so it had a lovely smoky flavour. I’d not had a steak like it. My husbands steak was unfortunately quite fatty and he only told me afterwards he didn’t really enjoy it (which is why we took 1 star off the score). I think he was probably just unlucky as all the food coming out of the kitchen looked great. The rest of the meal was delicious. Incredibly generous portions and good value for money. I particularly enjoyed the wild mushroom sauce which was packed with mushrooms. We didn’t have desert as we were so full from our mains but I look forward to returning in the future to try some! Finally, the staff here were all so friendly and attentive. They made our experience very enjoyable.

Only 50m from the theatre, so planned a meal beforehand here. What a lovely choice. Our meals and starters were terrific and didn't take long to come out. The staff were friendly and efficient, the atmosphere great, too, with lots of art on sale on the walls. We'll be back for the butcher and fishmonger at the front as well

Went there for late lunch. We had a burger, Lasagne and quiche. All the mains and sides were lovely. The young guy that served us was lovely too. Highly recommend 👌

An utterly dismal affair. Starters were OK, but unexceptional. Then 3 Burgers. All were overcooked, cold, tasteless, and the "mushroom sauce" in one was a refrigerated congealed mass inside the cold bun, on top of the cold leathery meat, indicating an inability to even re-heat the whole miserable offering in a microwave. Complaints yielded garbled apologies, but absolutely nothing more. We sat, we waited, nothing happened until the 3rd time of asking. We have never been treated with such completely offhand contempt. And the bill for this? Just short of £100. We should have known I suppose, on arrival, the tables were filthy and sticky, and the place was a chaotic shambles, despite not being particularly busy. So sad, as we visited with a local who was really looking forward to it.

Not a review of the restaurant, but their butcher counter. Their merghez sausages are superb. If you want cheap meat don’t go here, if you want great meat, go here. Worth every penny.

Amazing place. We popped in for coffee, liked the feel and decor of the restaurant and asked if we could have a dinner reservation for that evening. Despite being very busy, they managed to fit us in that evening. Had camembert to start, followed by the burger, with beef dripping. It was the best burger I've tasted in a very long time. Staff and service was brilliant - accommodating, speedy and friendly but unobstrusive.
