The Hungry Husky Cafe in Bournemouth

My husband and I popped in for bacon baguettes and tea. The owner is super friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. We shall definitely be returning on our next visit.

Visited due to good reviews. On arrival it was clearly mainly a takeaway as just 1 table inside. I sat outside but came inside as it was a bit cold. I ordered a breakfast & tea. It took around 20-30 mins as the bloke was cooking takeaways & baguettes first. When my breakfast arrived there were no beans which surely is one of the main ingredients of a full English? I asked for some beans which he cooked. This really pointed to a takeaway due to no beans. Very unimpressed food was served on a paper plate & tea was in paper cup. The whole breakfast was very poor, eggs broken, bacon & sausages were overcooked. Will not be coming back.

Cracking cafe and such a delicious breakfast wrap that we went back the next day. Coupled with a super friendly owner makes this a performance place to start your day

This is a little gem - might be a little shabby looking but the service is excellent and the food is really good!! The owner (i assumed) was so lovely and even cut up an extra sausage for our pup! We had 2 large breakfasts with coffees but i forgot to stipulate that i wanted mine black - when i realised he’d made me a white one and said that i forgot to say, he was so lovely and just made me another - i offered to pay again as it was my fault but he wouldn’t hear of it!! Great value, good food, lovely people - what more could you ask for!!

Had a very tasty cheese and ham omelette with chips and salad. I have dietary requirements which means eating out on holiday is difficult (you get lots of bread based options or 'fancy' food that consists of lots of ingredients, some of which are bound to set me off). Here you get good honest food and the owner has no problems swapping items, and all for a decent price.

We were three middle aged and hungry ladies having been up late the night before at a birthday party. One of us was also a vegetarian. The owner was most welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The food was well presented and delicious, good old fashioned fry up. If anything, I couldn't finish mine as the white bloomer fried bread was of very generous proportion. It seems that the locals love it here too and I can see why.

We visited here a few years ago and found that it catered for people, like myself, who have to follow a Gluten Free diet. We travelled down to Southbourne for a short holiday and to our pleasant surprise it was still there and still provided Gluten Free options. This establishment is very small with inside covers for about six persons with another couple of tables outside. However, there is a continual stream of take away customers who ordered a variety of dishes which kept the chef busy but he also dealt with those of us that were dining in. For such a small place the menu is very varied with such things as sandwiches, baps, baguettes and a salad box as well as the usual breakfasts. I opted for the 6oz Steak Breakfast which consisted of rump steak, 2 poached eggs, 2 tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and saute potatoes at a cost of £10.50. During our stay we went back there again on a couple of occasions and found the service to be very welcoming. The Hungry Husky is situated in Grand Avenue which is very apt as it is also very Grand in it's service to the general public. It is an hours drive from home and I would be more than happy to make this journey just to sample these meals again on a day out.

We turned up very hungry and after big breakfast! We were warmly greated and managed to sit outside in the sunshine in February! The menu was great and the food didn't disappoint! Big portions and well cooked! In all a very harty breakfast!

Our first visit here and highly recommend. Very friendly owner and assistant. Happened to visit during lunchtime rush and food was flying out with great efficiency. We are a family of four and all had cooked sandwiches and to quote my 15 year old son “it was class”. Will definitely come back when next in the area. If you are in the Southbourne area of Bournemouth I would urge you to give this little gem of a place a visit.

Absolutely amazing 6oz cheesesteak wrap, poached eggs on toast were perfectly cooked kids had sausage and chips which they said were cooked better than mine or there mums “WINNER” best place they’ve ever eaten I think the words were …… nothing is to much of a problem for the guys at the hungry Huskey, thankyou so much .

Beautiful Breakfast Rolls, Lee is always so friendly and has a big smile on his face, a must visit. We buy Breakfast Rolls on a regular basis for work. Definitely worth a try....

Have been meaning to pop in here for some time and wish I made a visit sooner. No BS service with a positive, genuine, friendly service – refreshing to see. Then the food – high quality, huge list of options and tastes fantastic. Gem of a place, highly recommend.

Two large breakfasts (not their largest) cooked to order. Easy to swap and change ingredients. Enough to fill us up. The granary toast was excellent. Very good value for the price. And the two ladies were very friendly making a great atmosphere. We’ll be back.

One of the best two full english breakfasts you can get in southbourne, and probably bournemouth itself. The key ingredient (which most cafes neglect), is the fact that the plates are warmed before the food goes on them. Every ingredient is piping hot when it hits the table. And all this at a very reasonable price. (swapsies are always available if you dont want mushrooms say, get an extra fried egg) Try a sausage sandwich and a mug of tea perhaps. Two thick slices of bread and a big mug of tea for £2.50 (last time I went in) Cant beat it.

We went on spur of the moment as we were passing and we all LOVED the place, The bread was so soft and decent. Chicken was fresh and all made and tasted amazing. Drinks out of the fridge and for four of us to eat with drinks for £15 was amazingly good value for money. Won’t forget this place if we come that way again. Well deserved review.

Decided to try this place out after reading great reviews online. However was unimpressed. The young female staff seemed very stressed and unhappy, not surprising after the way she was spoken to by the male chef. (possibly owner?) He shouted at her over a cup for the whole cafe to hear. Created a rather uncomfortable atmosphere. No beans with the large breakfast. Ran out of orange juice. Breakfast was average not very big portions and nothing special. Not sure what the hype is about to be honest. Wouldn't come back. Shame.

Popped in here for lunch and ordered an avocado and chicken baguette and a sausage baguette and the food is outstanding! Lots of veggie options and the staff are very friendly, made us feel like we knew them and their hospitality was amazing !

£10.50 for 2 tasty breakfasts + good coffee...trust me I am bloody fussy about coffee. Good value all round.

The Hungry Husky is an "experience". The surroundings are basic. The welcome is warm and friendly. The staff are delightful. There is a varied menu with ample choice. We had salads that were superb. Thoroughly recommended.

This HAS to be the best breakfast venue in Southbourne and surrounding areas! Always attentive and cheerful service from the owner and his staff. You will pay circa £20 for two breakfasts at Premier Inn and are left to your own devices I.e. you wander around aimlessly to lukewarm ingredients. Here, you can sit outside when the weather is nice and have two “small” breakfasts for £10 (not each.....both for a tenner). They let you swap if you don’t happen to like, say, black pudding for some other ingredient and the breakfasts are not small and include tea for two and buttered toast! These people deserve your custom because they are dedicated to good service from a small outlet tucked just off of the High Street. They will even provide sweeteners if you can’t handle sugar...just ask!

Superb service with a smile great cuppa and I will be back! For more than a cuppa next time. The staff were just so friendly and helpful and even offered my friends dog a sausage and bowl of water. Great place.

From the hot roast sandwich to his home made burgers, this place is worth a try, he even does his own cracklings with the pork & his homemade apple sauce is to die for! I could list the choices I’ve tried but it would go on & on & on. Nothing is too much trouble & it’s all freshly done in front of you with really fresh ingredients

Lovely, friendly owner who cracks me up every time. Honest business. Standard fry-ups. They always make space for you to sit down - inside or out. Sunny outside! Good prices. Not too slow. Could be a bit cleaner (i.e. wear a cap when cooking) but otherwise a good, honest, local cafe.

Always friendly service. Sausage and bacon sarnies with great bread and happy service. Well priced and the very definition of dog friendly with sliced sausage for the dogs. Just generally makes us happy and is an unpretentious stop for a Saturday breakfast.

Visited here for the first time this week and wow the breakfast was great all cooked fresh , didn't have to wait long at all either , lovely big pot of tea and the customer service was great , such a great man working in there he was full of life , smiley and makes you laugh . Would 100% come back . If I could give one tip the place needs a little TLC , not very clean , could do with a deep clean and it would make the place shine, like the quality of the food and friendly staff . Popped in for breakfast with our octogenarian neighbours and our grandson as a Sunday treat. We all had the small breakfast and tea or coffee. Breakfast perfectly cooked to order, every item was delicious. Grandson loved the sausage, buttered toast and bacon. Excellent 👍👍

My husband and I were recently on a short break and were staying in a local hotel in Southbourne. The Hungry Husky was recommended as a good breakfast stop as the hotel we were staying at didn't serve meals. We had breakfast all 3 days at The Hungry Husky, each time having something different. I found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The food was hot and well cooked and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cafe also offers vegetarian and gluten free options.

A colleague of mine from the NHS had recommended The Hungry Husky. I decided to try them out for lunch and opted for their "special" - a fabulous roast beef and horseradish baguette, with onions, mushrooms and cheese. This was the best sandwich I've had for along time and coupled with the fact it was pouring with rain and I had had to double park, they told me if I pulled up right outside, they would come and deliver it to my car when it was ready - what service! Thank you x

We had read good reports of the food at cafe and drove a fair way to find it. The welcome was really excellent, wait for the food acceptable, the pot of tea was enormous and tasty, service again excellent, taste and presentation of the food again excellent and a great farewell. Nothing at all was too much trouble for them.So why only three stars, well clearly if the following had been addressed it would have been 5 stars. What sadly let it down was its cleanliness. The floor, chairs, chair legs, tables and legs, walls were very dirty, as were the toilets (which are always a sign of the standard of cleanliness). The place was pretty shabby and in need a decoration too. It's such a shame as we really liked the people there and wish them well but they really do need some honest feedback to help them address these other areas as they are on top of food and service. With the number of staff there it would have been quite easy to have periods of cleaning and wiping down. The toilets could be cleaned and tiled in a day so it's not rocket science.We would love to hear when these problems have been addressed so we can have another great brunch and we genuinely wish these guys well.

We visited this cafe twice during the weekend of the Shake and Stir festival. We went there first for lunch and had really good burgers...home-made and perfectly cooked. We then returned in the morning and had a full English, which again was perfectly cooked and very tasty and we enjoyed it while sat outside under an umbrella on a very warm Sunday morning while watching the world go by. The owner and staff are all very friendly and helpful and the prices are incredibly reasonable. We will definitely make a return visit on future visits to Southbourne.

Visited this café for the first time today and I'm just sad I haven't been before. Amazing customer service, fab food and brilliant value. I'll be going back again very soon and will remember to take more cash next time as there is no card machine.

The Lincolnshire Sausage baguette with ketchup and red onion is just beautiful! The bloke who runs the place is chatty, funny and makes the whole place a wonderful experience. They offer homemade cranberry sauce to go with the bacon and Brie sandwich and the prices are always brilliant! A definite must if you visit Boscombe :)

Went on Wednesday morning after reading the Tripadvisor reviews.What a nice place lovely greeting from the owner I had there Large Hungry Husky breakfast and my mate being older had the small,great sized portions and 2 toast and butter provided the owner was very friendly and attentive,will definatly go back.

Enjoyed two meals here over the last week or so. The staff are friendly and the service quick. We were also hugely impressed that one of the ingredients we had ordered for breakfast, although they had run out, they took the time to run off to the local store to replenish. I didn't expect that and actually felt guilty they did it, but that's service for you and the kind of service that gets you five star ratings. Well done

We were not disappointed Excellent good value and very good service when any request was not too much trouble.Because of the good weather , were able to sit outside . Would have liked a second visit but that plan never worked. Well worth a visit for breakfast

Great little cafe. The food is always exceptional and the staff are very friendly (especially the owner). The food is also very fairly priced. If I had to pick something bad I would say it's not big enough as have had to wait for a table a couple of times, but defiantly worth the wait!

Been here loads over the years and it's simply a great cafe that serves honest proper food and drink either to takeaway or eat in although i've never done the latter. The staff are really great and it's one of only a handful of places i've been to where they cook the eggs correctly and how YOU want them done! Sounds small I know but it keeps me coming back. I would have to recommend the hot BLT baguette it's simply the best or the bacon and egg roll. Really generous portion sizes and top quality bacon, cooked right in front of you too. This place is heaving in the morning with builders and local workers getting grub, and the staff are always speedy and efficient. I don't mind waiting ten minutes because the food is always delicious and made with care and attention. The staff are really friendly and always engage in conversation about your upcoming day and make my morning. Keep it up!

We've had the grilled vegetables and Camembert sandwich, it was so good that we came back 10 mins later to get another one :)

Love this place for a weekend breakfast treat. Service with a smile is taken to a new level, I feel like I'm visiting an old friend! The staffs friendliness is infectious, even during my heaviest of hangovers. I love love love the breakfast wrap, my boyfriend loves the breakfast baguette. The ingredients are quality and the service is quick. It's such good value. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Popped in yesterday - three hungry grown ups. Great egg, mushroom and bacon sandwiches and breakfast baguettes (well after breakfast time - served all day we think), excellent mugs of tea and coffee, great value. No-nonsense surroundings, lovely people.

Have tried various breakfast options as well as baguettes & sandwiches. All food prepared freshly. Not at all pretentious about swapping items on the set menu. Excellent value too, as small breakfast costs £4.50 including tea/coffee and really hits the spot! Friendly staff, always remember you, brings water bowl & extra sausage for the dogs too, which is a nice touch! Definitely recommended.

I have heard nice things about this cafe but took my time in going but we decided to go for lunch yesterday. Southbourne is lovely but there are not always lots of places with room for prams and have a menu where it's not pretentious or trying to be something it's not.We had a BBQ lamb wrap and a cup of tea - £1 and it was proper pit tea. Just how I like it. The wraps were full of flavour and ingredients. 2 large wraps, 1 tea and a coke came to £8. I would hate to think how much something like that would have cost in Costa.It's a great British cafe, friendly staff and a good choice of food. We would definitely make this our stop off for a take away before heading to the beach in the future. Think it's so important to support local shops.I didn't have a coffee as I'm off coffee (pregnant) so can't comment on that.Only comment is that that could probably sweep the floor more regularly throughout the day but it was clean despite that.Well done!

I love this little cafe and always go there when I visit a friend in Southbourne. Yes it is basic but if you want a piping hot breakfast with friendly service you can't go wrong here. You can swap items you don't want for those you do..ie hash browns for bacon at no extra charge. (Try doing that in the Ludo Lounge). £4.50 for a full English with tea or coffee. Excellent value for money and always with a smile from the owner.

Recommended this place by a friend and thought would give it a go. The small café is simple and does the job. The staff are friendly, great prices and the food taste great. The whole office now order !. Worth a visit for sure !!, We shall be back soon !!

Food ok, but this is a very basic and small cafe, not the place if you're looking to eat in, there are much nicer places in southbourne

I visited The Hungry Husky cafe for an impromptu breakfast last Sunday. It was excellent. I ordered up my Large Breakfast and the pleasant, helpful owner asked me if there was anything I didn't fancy that I'd like to swap (beans instead of black pudding thanks, so off to a great start). The breakfast was superb - plenty of it, nicely cooked, with toast and a lovely cuppa. All at a good price too. Looking forward to my next Southbourne visit for another trip to The HH cafe...!!

No messing about, incredible subs at competitive prices. Vegetarian menu also. The owners of hungry husky are such a delight to natter to also, always sharing a moment to discuss your day.

We dropped by this place for lunch after a long cycle and it did not disappointed. We had the bacon, brie and cranberry baguette and warm gammon baguette and both were absolutely delicious. Freshly made on the spot with fantastic friendly staff. And to make things even better theyre not overpriced which is very nice to see in a seaside town!! Highly recommended!!

After listening to work colleagues rave about this cafe I finally decided to treat myself to a bacon sandwich on my way to work. I was greeted by Lee who is friendly and helpful.I ordered a bacon sandwich was made with real fresh bread (not your supermarket packets rubbish) and fresh/cooked to order quality bacon which was simply delicious!Weather you're wanting a lazy breakfast option, lunch or a picnic to take to the local beach - you'll be hard pressed to find a better place to buy your sandwiches!I'l definitely be going back!!

My girlfriend and I been popping along to your cafe on a Sunday when I'm at hers since August. Accidentally found your cafe too and now will not ho anywhere else. Decent grub and drinks, great hot chocolate after dog walking on a cold morning. Captive market so not a bargain, but it is worth the money as you're there and want something.

We found this Café by complete accident on our drive from Hengistbury Head to Bournemouth.Firstly we were greeted like old friends despite the fact that this was our first visit.We only wanted a light lunch so we each selected a BLT baguette which was freshly cooked whilst we waited.The café uses fresh ingredients so the huge baguette was packed with local bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce all covered in mayonnaise and it was really tasty.If your are in Southbourne and want lunch then forget about those " luvey" overpriced cafes and head for this place.I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

You won't find a more friendly and good value cafe in Bournemouth. Great selection of breakfast and lunch choices, including imaginative vegetarian options. Will be going back for sure.

You get what you pay for and, for the price, breakfast was acceptable but the table was dirty and it seemed to be a hangout for the local dossers. Pity, as it could be better with limited effort.

Checked out a few cafe style places in the area to take my friend for her birthday breakfast. Don't be put off by size or furniture in this place- it really doesn't matter- what does is how welcoming and friendly and reasonable and accommodating Hungry Huskys is. Will return:) Me and my friend had a veggie breakfast- lots of options , choice of breads, etc and newspapers available. Staff couldn't have been more helpful or happy. Should be Happy Hungry Husky!

Love the sandwiches here & they are also very friendly. Interior could do with a lick of paint and tidy up.

The bacon brie and cranberry sandwichs are amazing. Tried the sausage, onion and mustard variety yesterday and it too was very very good. The full English breakfast is also superb. Everything is cooked fresh and the ingredients are generally either made in house (like the cranberry sauce) or bought locally (like the sausages, bread etc).Very well recommended, this cafe offers much better and cheaper food than many of the other more prominent local establishments.It gets cold in winter so wrap up if you are eating in and it does get very busy sometimes on a Saturday so sometimes best to pre-order.. Aside from that no bad points!

Stayed in Bournemouth for a few days and visited here every morning. Tasted great and good portions, no issues with swapping the tomato for something more to my taste. Friendly staff and a chilled atmosphere.

This is a small cafe at the top of Grand Avenue just off the main road.Value for money was excellent we had 2 breakfasts with toast and tea/coffee for £9.Everything was cooked nicely.The lady that served us was very nice, nothing too much trouble.The place doesn't offer a scenic view or comfy eating if that's what you are after, but convenience and good value food it does.

The Hungry Husky is a gem of a place. Although there is a good selection of sandwiches (any filling can go into a conventional sandwich, bagette, bap or tortilla wrap) the staff will always try to accomodate your exact wishes and produce the exact sandwich you want.The breakfasts aregreat and if you don't like one of the ingredients the staff will suggest alternatives.Service is normally quick but as it is a very popular place you can wait a little at busy times so it is worth phoning your order in if you are in a hurry.The proprietor does some outside catering and it is worth discussing your special event with him.I tend to visit at least three times a week if only for a cup of tea and the friendly conversation.

We visited here a couple of months ago and enjoyed our breakfast. Brilliant breakfast as you could add and remove what you wanted. Latte was lovely too. Friendly and chatty staff (without it being too much). Need more Hungry Husky's around the area. We will be back soon.

Go often never go anywhere else for lunch all the staff are amazing and put themselves out for nothing is too much trouble for them even to the point that if you want and they haven't got it they will go and try and find it for you you can change your order to suit you and they also deliver at no extra change can't complain

The owner makes this place - absolutely first class customer service! The sandwiches are great, its easy, cheap and superb quality. Some places in Southbourne could learn a thing or two from Lee - the owner! Keep it up, you're doing a great job.

When staying here we often get sandwiches to take on a picnic. The choice is wonderful, and the sandwiches are chunky, well filled, and made to order while you wait. There is also a good range of drinks etc. They will also deliver locally. We have had many fabulous meals courtesy of the terrific and friendly sandwich makers here.

I travelled to this place specifically because it advertised gluten free sandwich's. We ordered one gluten free sandwich and one normal and sat down to wait. After about 15 mins (the cheerful chatty guy who runs the place) came over to apologise as they didn't have any gluten free bread. He'd taken my order and then sent someone out to local shops to try to source some bread.To say I was annoyed was an understatement! He should have made it clear that he didn't have the bread when I was placing the order, I would have been disappointed, but that would have been fine.On the positive side, my daughter enjoyed her non gluten free sandwich, whilst I ate a packet of crisps.

The food is lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful always and interested in you. We visit the cafe every time we visit Southbourne and wouldn't go anywhere lese for our lunch time sandwiches.

The guy who runs this place is also happy and cheerfully chats away to you. I normally visit for breakfast (admittedly after a night out) the food is freshly prepared while you're there and is never too greasy like other places. I normally feel a lot better when I leave thanks to the food and the service.

we had some baguettes made up to take with us to the beach, they were freshly made and well wrapped with what was inside written on the wrapping which was a nice helpful touch and they were scrummy!
