The Horseshoe Inn was a great find and exceeded our expectations. The food was so good we ate there every night of our stay. The service and staff were great too. This is a great base for a break for anyone wanting to explore the area. I would definitely recommend this Inn.

An absolute gem! A warm friendly local country pub. Five star service from a happy engaging front of house team and a brilliant chef and kitchen crew. Service was not just faultless, but insightful - so good I would have given six stars. Best belly pork I have had in years. Strongly recommend.

We had a lovely night at The Horseshoe Inn thanks to the friendly staff. We were originally booked in for the week before but the weather was too bad to go walking so they very kindly let us transfer our stay to the following week. Much appreciated. We had a delicious tea, the food was gorgeous and I was able to take my pudding up to the room to have a little later. The room was really comfortable. It was a nice touch having classical music playing in the room when we went in. Breakfast was equally delicious but a little on the cool side, otherwise everything was perfect. Thank you for a lovely night!!!

Spent a night at this lovely North York Moors pub, set in a beautiful village. We were immediately made to feel welcome. Settled into our cosy bedroom with a view over the pretty village green. Enjoyed an excellent meal in the bar. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very quiet, peaceful location, comfortable bed and lovely breakfast. Local walks were easily accessed from the Inn. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

Wow! What a lovely place. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the location is stunning. Quite possibly the best meal I’ve had in the area. We enjoyed everything we had. The fish trio starter was very generous and beautifully cooked. The butternut squash risotto was topped with rocket and delicious cheese and was perfect. We were pleased to get vegetables even though none of us had ordered the roast. The carrots and red cabbage were really good. I liked the fancy cups for the coffee and getting a mint was a nice touch. I just hope I have room for a pudding next time.! The dining room / bar was cosy and nicely decorated and had a great atmosphere. Good music in the background too! Thank you!

Service couldn't be faulted, the pub was busy but we were shown to a table in a comfy corner and served with drinks almost straight away. When our food order was taken, we were told their would be a five minute delay which was very nice and accurate. Two of us had sandwiches, chicken and bacon with thick cut chips. And I had the soup which came with a bowl of croutons and a warm bread roll.

I recently visited the Horseshoe Inn with my family on a soggy Saturday lunchtime. The pub is so warm and inviting and decorated really nicely. The warmth of the roaring fire really hits as you enter the pub and was greatly appricated. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to an available table and promptly ask us what drinks we would like. There was a good selection of home cooked meals to choose from. I went for the steak baguette which was so yummy and fish and chips was chosen by my partner which was great. We also chose the kiddies fish and chips for our 1 year old who absolutely demolished it! One thing I really appricated was when the waiting staff brought over the kids meal they gave it to me, so many times I have been out for a meal and staff bring out hot food for kids and just plonk it right in front of them!! We had to sample their deserts too, the chocolate torte and orange crème brûlée, both were amazing!! We will definitely be back again..... maybe next time we will even stay over!!

What a stunning location. So very peaceful, day and night, this has to be one of the quietest locations in the UK. Stayed for 3 nights in a 'Showfield' room which is a little way down the street from the pub. The room and whole building had recently been refurbished, and to a very high standard. Room was immaculate with stunning views. As for the pub, great atmosphere with incredibly friendly staff, open fire and great food. Choice of evening meal was varied and food prepared to a high standard, the breakfast was one of the best, if not the best I have had in any hotel in a very long time! Thank you to everyone for a great stay....thoroughly recommended.

This was our second stay here. We stayed for 3 nights in October in a garden room. Our room was spacious, well equipped, in a quiet position and was very clean. Loved our stay at the Horseshoes, surprisingly busy pub in a beautiful rural setting. Felt like one of Yorkshire's best kept secrets, set at the head of a beautiful village. The pub caters equally for walkers and heritage railway enthusiasts. We stayed in a comfortable over the pub room, we appreciated all the little extra comforts such as the wool throws. We stayed for one night in the new build and the room was clean and spacious . The location was incredible . The pub stood at the head of the village with uninterrupted views . The food served was home cooked and locally sourced . The portions were very generous and the staff were very kind and so polite . Great location for the North York Moors. Would not hesitate to recommend . However , one tiny criticism would be that there should be blinds on the new rooms I did feel a little exposed . But I’m sure this can be considered ?

After exploring the North Yorks Moors, we came across this little pearl in the village of Levisham. A lovely inn, real ale on offer and a decent menu. The food was delicious. We sat outside - they have a number of tables available on a grassy area to the front of the Inn. Nicely spread out to allow those with dogs (and there were many) to be able to enjoy their food and drink without canine disruptions!

The Horseshoe at Levisham is one of those pubs that's out of the way, but also one where you get rewarded with a great experience. There's an array of main meals and light bites at lunchtime and even though I was sorely tempted to try the Turkey with Yorkshire Pudding and all the trimmings, I decided to go for the Rare Beef and Horseradish sandwich with Chips. The beef was nice and tender whilst the horseradish managed to avoid that cardinal sin of being so strong that it overpowered the beef. The chips that accompanied them were nicely prepared with a nice salty taste. There's a small selection of real ales available and the one I chose matched my meal perfectly. The service was friendly right from the outset and nothing was too much trouble.Another big box that was ticked for us was that The Horseshoe is dog friendly with us being placed in an area where our dog wasn't disturbed too much.Given The Horseshoe's location, it got very busy during the lunchtime we were there, so if you're considering making a trip specifically to dine there, it would be prudent to book ahead.A real treat for lunchtime... Still wish that I'd gone for the Turkey and Yorkshire Pudding, though.

We stayed in one of the garden rooms and ate at the restaurant 2 evenings - great pub atmosphere with the addition of amazing food and service. First night we had fish and chips (haddock of course) which was great then the next night I had salmon which was the best salmon I have ever had - lovely and thick, crispy skin on a bed of vegetables with a lovely sauce and husband had the steak which he raved about. We drank far too much wine (good wine list) and didn't have a pudding as we were too stuffed even after walking 10 miles. Great great place - oh and compliments to the waitress and owner for their patience and tact when were dealing with an extremely challenging customer on the next table who was rude and obnoxious to them!

Sadly, due to Covid and various restrictions, we never actually got to visit Charlie and Faye at the Horseshoe Inn, however I have been moved to write a glowing review based on their remote customer service alone. They helped us with a large and complicated family booking, then when Covid hit, helped us rearrange it, and finally when ongoing restrictions ruined our revised plans, helped us organise a convoluted refund. Throughout, Charlie and Faye were wonderful - friendly, accommodating, professional and so so helpful. If their remote customer service is anything to go by, you're in safe hands! We very much enjoyed the friendly, warm hospitality of The Horseshoe when we stayed recently. The weather was cold and windy, but the warmth in the bar invited us and our dachshund out of the cold. Three different cask ales and a great selection of gins also helped with the warm up!The most difficult part of our stay was deciding what to choose from the menu for dinner. Excellent range of dishes, and we went for we settled on a special of deep friend haggis with a whisky marmalade and a crab and crab terrine, followed by steak and Black Sheep ale pie and mushroom stroganoff. Hearty food served with a delicate touch, and absolutely delicious. The pub has a lovely, welcoming warmth that is only partially generated by the log fire; we received excellent service from the whole team, and we're really looking forward to enjoying their hospitality again as soon as practical in 2021.

We called today for a sandwich at lunchtime, what a great pub , considering how of the beaten track it is, we were amazed how busy it was. The rare beef sandwich gets 10/10 lean and tender on fabulously fresh bread, served with a nice side salad and very yummy chips . Eating out at the present time can be quiet testing, but we felt they complied with all the covid requirements, yet still managed to maintain a nice relaxed atmosphere, such a change from a lot of places relying too hard ! Wow! What a delightful pub this is! Called in for a snack on a Sunday - didn't have a Sunday lunch because we would be eating a three-course meal later in the evening. However, the Sunday lunch looked extremely delicious. I decided on one of the starters - mini toad-in-the-hole. Two sausages in a small Yorkshire pudding and smothered in gravy, whilst my wife enjoyed a bowl of this tomato and red pepper soup with croutons and a lovely soft bread roll. Well, let me tell you about the Toad in the hole - Lord! It was absolutely divine. Extremely tasty sausages accompanied by THE most tasty onion gravy known to Man!!!! Did I enjoy that!! It was outstanding. My wife, meanwhile, thoroughly enjoyed her soup. With gentle persuasion, I managed to secure half of her bread to mop up the extremely flavorsome gravy, which would have been a travesty had I left it!! Now, the done thing is to make a return visit to sample the Sunday lunch . . . . . . . . . and maybe another toad-in-the-hole!!

We wanted to do a walk and found ourselves literally at the end of the road in Levisham, with no through roads anywhere. The walk was fantastic but the only pub in the village even more so. Parking is very limited and the pub wasn’t open so I made a quick call to ask if we could park in their car park as we would be having a couple of drinks afterwards, it wasn’t a problem. Walk finished we settled down on one of the lovely benches outside. The sun was shining, our legs were aching and we could have stayed all afternoon (although they do have rooms so that could have been an option). The road is steep and winding to get to the pub, however, everything is worth it when you do.

Disappointing food and not so great on Covid precautions either.Sunday lunch. The lamb shank was good but the two people who had the roast beef found it very bland. Puddings not very exciting either. Friendly manager kindly moved us when we felt insecure about how close we were to the next table - one of our party was back to back with someone on that table. No one-way system. Few were paying attention to the signs asking them to stay behind the tape around the bar area, and they were even leaning on the bar. Every other pub we’ve been in, you haven’t been allowed up to the bar at all and it has been table service either.

Decent pubs that profess to be nothing more, nothing less, are not that easy to find these days. This one fits the bill. If you regard the Good Pub Guide as a bit of a beer bible you'll probably know this place has featured for many years, and with good reason.Fantastic location for walking, big beer garden, really friendly staff, lovely food, massive portions, decent prices, dog friendly. What's not to like?I over ordered mind. Black pudding and bacon starter followed by an amazing pie and chips. I say 'pie' - it was a bowl of rich and delicious beef stew (probably cooked in ale) with a crumbly and perfectly cooked shortcrust pastry lid. I debated with the owner whether or not that constituted a pie; in my mind, you need sides and a bottom as well. He convinced me to try it anyway. Good lad, he was spot on, it was lovely. I wouldn't call it gastro pub food, but tbh, that is an over-used term these days. Wife had fish and chips. She always has fish and chips. We'll be back.

Lucky enough we phoned to book, the welcome from the staff was very warming and that followed by a first class meal made for a very pleasant evening, my only disapointment was I didn't book for another evening there and then as when we tried it was fully booked. So do not make the same mistake, book your table early it'sreally worth it.

Wasn't sure where I was headed when the Satnav took us on its route but could not have guessed at what a little gem we found. Pleasant staff, superb location clean and tidy room and breakfast and evening meals out of the top drawer. Could not fault and would happily return.

This is a distinctly average pub. The interior is rather uninspiring. The barman didn't take the order correctly. The starter of black pudding and bacon lacked flavour, with the black pudding was rather bland although to be fair the sauteed potatoes were fine. It's a long time since I've had liver, but that was my choice. It would have been nice to have had a smaller portion of liver but of better flavour. All in all disappointing.

Chose this restaurant quite by chance for a birthday treat. Its a little bit out of the way - turned out to be a hidden delight! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful (particularly regarding food allergies). Food was tasty and plentiful!! We had a room overlooking the village - just beautiful. We shall definitely be returning - hopefully fairly soon.

We ate out half a dozen times on our recent week’s holiday on the North York Moors. On each occasion we had a great experience. Time was you had to spend a lot of money or go to France to get this sort of quality, but the tables are turned and God bless the review culture! The Horseshoe Inn is deservedly popular - you’ll need to book. When you’ve eaten here, you’ll see why. Probably the best food of our holiday. Excellent, many thanks and highly recommended.

We had a lovely meal at this delightful pub set in the picturesque village of Levisham. It was our first time visiting the pub and we will definitely return - while we visited on the beatifully warm bank holiday weekend, we would love to return in the winter with the fire lit. The food was excellent, they offered to do a larger kids portion for my 2 older kids which was very good of them and all 4 adults spoke highly of the food. It was also great that we could take our dog into the pub for an evening meal and she sat beside us throughout the meal. Overall a great first time visit, all the staff we encountered we warm and friendly and we all look forward to returning soon.

The perfect place to stay to enjoy the beauty of the north Yorkshire moors. The garden rooms at the back of the pub are great for hikers and those just wanting to enjoy the views with everything you could need including recommended walks.

Popped in for a sandwich on a gorgeous Saturday. Opted for scampi and chips (though the sandwiches looked amazing, packed full of filling and served with a few fries. We were more than pleased with our good helping of scampi, proper chips, peas and tartare sauce. Friendly staff, will call again and maybe try an evening meal in the very nice looking pub. Thank you folks.

We had previously visited the sister Inn at the Fox and Rabbit at Lockton.so we visited this Inn for our Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed, we chose roast beef and I had lamb hock. Both meals were nicely cooked and presented on hot plates. Staff were very friendly and efficient, within a short time of arriving the Inn was full. Highly recommended

We were asked to try here by the Fix&Rabbit;, which we had called in for a drink last year. They were full, but we went to The Horseshoe Inn instead. We had one night there in a Garden Room, very spacious and clean. The evening meal was excellent, one Fish Pie and one Fish & chips. No room for desserts I'm afraid. The next morning we had a superb breakfast, one of the best we have ever had. Unusual to taste a good sausage, but they are made locally, as is most of the food. Staff friendly. A really good stay in a very attract village. Highlight was the steam railway which we went down to Whitby on, in the morning after breakfast. All run by volunteers.

Nice pub for a drink or food best to book it does get very busy not surprising here and at The Fox and Rabbit (same owners) not another pub for miles, notwithstanding the food is good

Off the beaten track - a couple of miles, along steep, narrow lanes, from the main Whitby to Pickering road - but worth seeking out for good value food and drink in pleasant surroundings. Our party of seven dropped by for dinner, which featured lots of excellent Yorkshire produce. Portions generous. Booking is essential because this place is deservedly popular, with locals and visitors alike. Plenty of attractive walking on the doorstep should you wish to work up an appetite or a thirst. Sole complaint: the real fire made the eating area far too hot. It was a relief to get out into the cool evening air.

This was our first visit for a few years and we will definitely be back sooner! Thankfully we had booked a table as the pub seemed to be completely full, and we were spoilt for choice from the delicious menu options. We enjoyed starters of the deep fried Brie parcels and the pork and chicken terrine and delicious main courses of the butternut squash risotto and slow cooked lamb. All of the portions are very generous and there was no way we could attempt a dessert! The service was extremely friendly and we will certainly be looking at the option of staying in one of their rooms ASAP!

Very popular so booking is advised. We will definitely return.
