My wife and I had called in here on Saturday 16th September to see if we could grab a bite to eat and a drink. Unfortunately at lunchtime they did not do any food but did kindly suggest another local place for us to eat at. After about an hour or so we returned to have a drink in the bar area and relax in what we thought was a superb traditional local pub which just had so much character. One of the locals made us feel very welcome and came over and had a chat with us both for about 10 minutes. He gave us some local history info and mentioned about the village and its links with the tv program Downton Abbey. All in all a very nice visit and if we were ever in the area again we would not hesitate in calling in. Thank you.

This pub is on the fatal phase. Unless they lift their game. they will fai Put on some good food. Sell up some drinks. You'll make a profit and we will come backl There's no magic, and this formula works for every one. Please use it and stay in business. We need you.

We would enjoy a drink in the Horseshoe from time to time but, for the second time when watching cricket, manager(?) has changed channel without any apology or explanation. Very rude indeed with no-one else there to watch the TV. How rude to customers! Certainly won't return and will not be welcome, I'm sure. How unprofessional.

I've been in a few times since the new owners took it on. It keeps improving at a steady pace. Not had a chance to try the Sunday roast yet, but looking forward to having Sunday free to try. Good pint, decent selection of wines and spirits. Friendly staff and locals. Clean loos! Football season was fun (even though I'm not a fan it was easy to get caught up in it all!) Have also enjoyed a few quiet evenings just relaxing with a drink.

The Shoes has been refurbished and is under new management since June 2018 and what a difference. The previous landlords had given the pub a bad reputation but the new management have quickly turned it around and changed it back into a fantastic village pub. The staff are friendly with a wide range of drinks on offer along with afternoon sausage rolls/pasties on offer on a Friday/Saturday afternoon. We tried the roast diner which was divine with 3 meats on offer, fresh vegetables and home made puddings. We will be back

First visit since this place reopened last month after a major refurbishment and we will be coming back whenever we can. Nice bright bar area, plenty of comfortable seating, well kept beers and very warm welcome. 6 of us enjoyed a drink and chat with chap serving us. Work to finish kitchen still so no food for another two weeks but proposed menus for lunch, evening and Sunday sounded good. Bonus for this area is fact open all day. Great start hence score of 4. Coming back to see if food can take this place to a 5. If effort so far is anything to go by this will be a real winner.

We went for Sunday lunch in Bampton, based on the board outside advertising a "fabulous" Sunday lunch. What we had was tepid, flavourless lamb with a generic gravy that may have been Bisto. The drinkers at the bar were OK. It's indicative of the staff attitude that they don't take cards. The lady at the bar told me they had stopped because the credit card companies take a fee on every transaction. Apparently she had just learned that, whereas most of us have known for 50 years or so. There are other places to eat in Bampton; I'd advise trying one of them.

We stopped in to The Horseshoe and were not impressed. They only serve food on Sunday. When we walked in, we were greeted more like it was a bother. Not very hospitable or helpful. Step up your game and you might earn a better rating.

After several changes of ownership over the last few years, now in great hands. Busy, nice decor, good range of ales, beer garden out back, live music periodically, and I think food might be back on the menu - so to speak - and so comes highly recommended.

Chip portions not consistent, seem to get fewer and fewer. Asked for battered sausage and it came without batter, second time in a row. Lost our custom.

Had a three night stay at the Bell loved it! I extended our stay by a night and couldn’t get the same room as our original booking not disappointed in any way. Our first night was in Teasel a lovely room plenty of room with a nice shower wash room. Nice big comfortable bed. Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the room Hazel it’s situated above the barn. Amazing room with great views across countryside. This room is big loads of space to chill after a busy day in the Cotswolds. A super king sized bed and lovely shower /bathroom (huge bath). We weren’t going to dine at the Bell but as we had booked the extra night decided to have evening meal and breakfast on our first night. Both meals were delicious so also booked for Friday evening again delicious. The staff at the Bell are all very friendly and helpful hard working as whatever we asked nothing was too much trouble whatsoever . Thanks to all at the Bell for making our first visit to the Cotswolds a very special experience. Richard and Keeli x

Following a family emergency, I rang to cancel my table and was charged £70 without my permission. They will say it's on the website, however it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice during the booking process. We had been before and found the food OK and the staff a little arrogant but wanted to try again as hoped it was an anomaly as the surroundings are lovely. There will not be a third time, I have been told by several people that this business makes a loss, that is hearsay and I can't confirm that but after this cynical charge, it would seem they have to make money at all costs.
