Went here with friends for dinner as one loves locally. Great service here and the menu choice was varied and reasonably priced. Great home cooked food. I had the boar tortellini to try something different and it didn't disappoint. Would recommend and definitely be back

Looking at all the complementary reviews, we were obviously just unlucky. We hadn't been to the Horseshoe for a while and looked forward to trying it under its current ownership. Sadly our meals were the worst we have had in a pub for a long time, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the white wine was served at room temperature. It's hard to understand why any pub would do that.

I took my u3a Sunday Lunch Group here on 28th July and the feedback was excellent. The venue is a lovely traditional village pub serving great beer and good quality traditional British food at reasonable cost. We were seated at the back and, as it was a warm day, the doors to the beer garden were open, giving us views over over the patio and grass. The service was excellent and the staff were really friendly and helpful, as was Santino, who's either the owner or manager. We felt really welcome and had a really enjoyable experience. I would fully recommend this venue to anyone who's in the area. We will definitely be going again!

An easily accessible village pub on the main A428 Bedford- Northampton road, with food available Wednesdays to Sundays. We visited for a our Sunday lunch. The 'roast' - unusually, beef brisket , with usual trimmings- was enjoyed by my partner, while my sausage and mash was exceptionally tasty with lots of gravy. A recommendation again for the apple crumble, which was not the thin overcooked horror often served. Honeycomb ice cream ice cream was above OK, and beers, service, prices and ambience were fine. We are likely to return - maybe even in the near future!

This pub changed management mid 2023 and new team have worked impressively hard to improve the look, ambiance, food and drink choice , quality and increase the numbers of regular visitors. They seem to have succeeded in all these areas. The quality level they aim for, they meet easily and well sensibly priced. My wife & I enjoy going there maybe 2-3 times a month either for a drink or food or both. Menu wide enough for most tastes, very good Sunday roasts and lamb burger probably better than found anywhere else. (Try the brisket which is memorable with just the right amount of sticky sweetness). As a local village pub it is beginning to also fulfil a service as more people know of it's growing success.

Visited the Horseshoe for the first time for a get together with old friends over a bite to eat, and had a very pleasant evening. There was a decent selection of ales on tap including Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Hawkstone IPA, Tring Brewery mild, I had the cod chips for my meal and it was excellent, a lovely piece of cod perfectly cooked served with very tasty minty peas. Superb. I think everyone else was pleased with their food, especially those who ordered the rack of ribs. The whole pub has stone/tiled flooring, and the decor is a little spartan, these combined don't help with acoustics, so I can see that at times some may find it a little noisy. Overall a decent village pub that does some great food. Would happily return

Excellent Sunday lunch. Was quite busy so service a little slow but worth the wait. I had the Beef & Ale pie which is one of the best i have had, excellent pasty crisp and short with unctuous soft filling. My father had the roast beef brisket. The Roast Pots were some of the best he has had along with very good Yorkshire & Gravy. The meat is a cheap cut and we would happily pay more for a better joint.

Finally we organised ourselves to book a table for Sunday Lunch, although we arrived late it was not too much trouble ( I blame the slow walking puppy ) Attentive but not intrusive staff and beautifully cooked roast dinners, both the pork and beef very tender vegetables still with a bite, perfectly crunchy roast potatoes a huge homemade Yorkshire pudding topped with a rich sticky gravy. I never normally have dessert but I chose to after such a lovely dinner, and the doughnuts were also delicious. I love that The Horseshoe is dog friendly and I loved the new curtains that have been lovingly made in the restaurant. Tino, Charlotte and the team, have worked their magic and proven The Horseshoe to be an amazing asset to Lavendon long may it continue. It’s wonderful to see The Horseshoe loved by the village and the owners. The atmosphere is superb.

Meeting with friends we always choose a different place to meet. We had heard The Horseshoe had had a makeover so decided to give it a go. On entry it was very busy and loud and our friends gave the bar a miss because of this and went straight to the table. We were sat in a corner by a large party that got louder and louder. We asked to be moved but there wasn't anywhere to go. At points during our conversation we had to wait to talk to each other as we couldn't hear each other. Whilst I know people celebrate in large parties knowing where to place your customers has to be an art to keeping everyone happy. The room had been refurbished but it looked like they hadn't finished. Curtain hooks with no curtains no room dressing at all,it felt bare and uninviting. The food was very good but portions looked small on large plates and tasted far better than the presentation. Maybe I am too old for this place, and it's more to service the people of the village rather than coming for a nice meal out. This is a place for burgers and a pint. I would go back as the food was good but maybe midweek when its calmer.

So glad that we popped in here at 5pm after walking nearby and found that they were serving food. Proper, delicious Italian food too! We shared an arancini starter, which was scrummy. Cheesy and garlicky, but light and served on a rich, piquant, tomato sauce. We both had a pizza to follow and these were very good too,on an authentic base. The staff were lovely and took time to chat with us and explain they'd only taken over the kitchen a couple of months ago. I visited the Horseshoe for a impromptu lunch with my mum, unaware that it had changed hands in recent months. The website has not been updated, so surprised it is now an Italian restaurant. The menu is extensive. There are some tempting pizzas and pasta dishes. I had a lasagne - it was delicious - one if the best. It did take a wait, but the proprietor did make us aware and I prefer to wait rather than be offered some processed, microwaved meal. The Italian proprietor was very pleasant. He said he has a chef coming over from Italy in a couple of weeks. I felt the place has great potential. There are certainly things that can be worked on, but with time and support, it would be a great go to place to eat. Talk to the proprietor if you feel anything is wrong, which will help him make the 'tweaks' needed. I wish him very success.

I popped into The Horseshoe for Sunday Lunch.Upon enterring I was pleased to find what I consider a traditional village pub for this part of the country. Cosy, softly lit with stone walls, lots of dark timber and an open fire crackling merrily in the hearth. Very pleasant indeed.Service was bright and friendly and the menu packed with tempting dishes.I went for a starter of kidneys in a creamy sauce on toast and followed with halibut in a brown shrimp and asparagus sauce. Both were great - the halibut especially so. An added bonus was that, despite not having ordered a Sunday roast, I still got the full dish of beautifully cooked mixed veg and crispy roast potatoes.the portions are generous and the prices modest. All in all, a great lunch in a really nice pub.

Having had the soup, I am glad I opted for the small fish as anything larger would have beaten me.Lovely little pub and one we would frequent more often if it wasn't for the drive to get there which limits you a little these days.Well recommended though.

Visited here 3/11/19 for Sunday lunch. We only live in the next town but for some reason we haven't been here for a couple of years. A very pleasant welcome greeted us on arrival. We were promptly shown to a table, after ordering our drinks, by a lovely young lady. She produced the menu for us to peruse. The pie of the day was chicken, ham & leek which my partner had & I opted for the lamb shank. We were informed the meal would take a little longer because we had to wait for the pie. No problem, we had our drinks & were in no hurry. Well it was well worth the wait! After about 20 minutes our meals were delivered to our table by our happy friendly waitress. The pie was ample sized & my lamb shank looked delicious. The veg arrived in a separate dish & was plentiful & cooked to perfection. My lamb fell off the bone & was melt in the mouth tender. Unfortunately we weren't able to sample the wonder dessert choice because our ample mains left us with no room for more. If you haven't visited The Horseshoe in Lavendon then please do. First things first, I would've given this place 0 stars but due to the garden that has earned this place 1 star. Everything else is either tasteless or bland. The falafels were dry and disgusting and the drinks didn't even taste like what they were supposed to be. For example, my Diet Coke tasted like tonic water and my mum's beer tasted like soap. At all costs, do not waste/spend your money here because you will regret it and you may even get sick from hygene purposes due to the lack of care handling the food. Also the service was very bad and bring out the completely wrong orders.

Good service, friendly staff, superb food, 4 of us, we all had something different and it was all good, my only complaint would be that the very good entertainment was very loud, for a pub lounge, on a Sunday afternoon. ( maybe I am getting old)

Very attentive (but not pushy) service. The main meals and the desserts were both excellent. The wine was pretty good, the gin was great, the beer went down well too. If the landlady had handed out paracetamol to us on our way out it would have been perfect. ;-)

Food was delicious. I had plaice stuffed with crabmeat, tasted out of this world. David had a cheese omelette, freshly cooked and the chips were the best ever. Oh and don’t forget the sautéed new potatoes, to die for. Lovely friendly place, very welcoming.

Wow what an amazing pub. Beautifully decorated and themed traditional county pub. Went there with family & friends for the Mother’s Day lunch - the 3 course meal was amazing!! Every mouthful delicious and well thought of. Tasty and filling. It was busy but we didn’t have to wait too long for service. Great atmosphere and great service. Staff lovely & friendly. Well done Horseshoe staff - a beautiful place inside & out. Looking forward to coming back soon! Complements to the chef too!

We booked a table at the last minute for a Sunday lunch and got the last one available. The Sunday lunch menu was interesting and varied. My wife had the Turkey while I went against tradition and had the Chowder. Both were excellent with a good helping of well presented vegetables. On the basis of that meal, I have just booked a table there for a group family meal!

Visited with our parents for an evening meal based on the recent trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Esme served us our meals, she was polite, friendly and enthusiastic. Compliments to the chef for the lovely food. The black pudding starter is just superb and gets a special mention. Everything we had was very well cooked and very enjoyable to eat. We will most definitely be back... please don’t ever remove the black pudding from the menu....or perhaps also make a main course version for me and my dad ;-)

Decided to give this local pub a try for my significant birthday. It's not easy finding a place that can cater for 18 diners unless you go to an hotel. On calling in the sample menu was not your usual pub menu and not fine dining either.

5 of us ate here on Friday evening. There were 3 other occupied tables so not too busy. The starters were ample, especially the cod cheeks. 3 people had lamb, which was served just right, medium rare. A little limited for the vegetarian in the group who ended up having 2 starters. 2 things stopped the score being higher. My steak pudding, and the potatoes, were really salty, and had large lumps of rock salt in. And the service was pretty slow and lacked a few fine details. For example bread with no butter, and we didn't get to order wine until after the starter. Service was a bit slow too. With these few tweaks the actual standard and quantity of food could make this a score of 5.

The staff were welcoming and in abundance. Sadly they seemed to be at sixes and sevens, never there when needed Service was slow considering the restaurant was not very busy but the bar sounded lively. The food offering was average, nothing to excite the taste buds, and the portions were generous.

As a party of 12 we booked in for an evening meal on Saturday. We all agreed the service, menu, quality & presentation of the food was excellent; the staff welcoming, friendly & helpful; the seating & atmosphere most conducive. Thanks to you all for making it such a memorable dining experience.

What a great friendly atmosphere at this fabulous pub. The food was piping hot and delicious, they even gave us extra portions of beef as the lamb was running out. We would definitely come again. Traditional but also contemporary in outlook. Great artwork too

Well, today we eventually got to sample the cuisine for the first time since the pub has been under new management. We were not disappointed. Home cooked fresh tasty food.

Four of us went for an evening meal for my Mother's birthday. There was a good choice of food and we all ended up having 3 courses! Everything was excellent and the portions sizes big enough to even beat me!! Plenty of veg, which is where many pubs go wrong. The staff were lovely as always and couldn't do enough for you.

Wouldn't even bother ordering from this place waited 2hrs. Had 5 calls to them and the only response was drive is on his way. Shocking order at 5pm it's now 7.15 nowhere to be seen I have 3 kids one being 2 years old waiting for food. Instead of being decent and admitting it's not come they lie. NEVER ORDER FOR HERE PLEASE
