Skikkeleg gode pub mat - og veldig trivelige serverings damer. Vi var ein kveld der vi bestilte middager - veldig godt. Men i dag har vi vært å hatt lunsj og nå har vi hatt kvelds! Vi gjekk for mange tapas retter - det var kjempe godt. Natchosen var himmelsk, kongerekene nydelige, oliven, hallomi fantastisk og mer. Anbefaler

Wonderful atmosphere. Very friendly staff, professional and attentive. Food was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The menu was very well designed. Prices were also good value for money. Cannot wait to return Definitely worth trying, you won't be disappointed. We visited two evenings in a row, food, everything was perfect on both occasions.

Excellent pub. Lovely atmosphere and such friendly staff. We popped in for gluten free food. Being vegetarian and gluten free is hard to find food these days. We weren't able to have a meal as such there wasn't something we could have however, we had chips and onion rings which were amazing. Gluten free onion rings are very difficult to get on a menu and they were light amd fluffy. Great selection of gf desserts too. Would definitely return if in the area.

Beautifully presented and tasty food, simply the best pub meal ever, backed with friendly attentive staff. Good atmosphere.

If you're looking for excellent food then this is the place to go. We have always visited when we come on holiday. It is somewhere we always look forward to as part of our holiday. The pub is warm and welcoming - even with an open fire - dogs are welcome too! The owners own labradors, Blaze & Busby (sadly only Busby now) wander around, checking that everyone is okay - even letting themselves in and out of the doors! The family and all staff are warm and friendly and service is excellent. The food has always been served hot, delicious and with varied menus. We have brought lots of different friends here, who come to visit us on holiday. We have never had a disappointing meal in all the years we have been going there. We visited on Sunday for a roast and were not disappointed- who made those Yorkshire puddings which barely fitted in the plates? We are visiting again tonight with friends and will return on our next visit to Grindley Brook. I am sad to read of the ongoing challenges in the hospitality industry, due to lack of staff, and ever rising prices, but I do hope this family run business will come out the other end stronger and more determined. The April menu is one of the best I have seen in a pub. Lots of choice. We had the lamb kofta and the garlic mushrooms as our starters, both freshly cooked, mains were the risotto which had haddock, prawns and minted peas, and the chicken and ham pie. Couldn't fit a dessert in so can't comment on them but if they are as good as the mains you couldn't complain. When we booked we asked if they had an area where dogs weren't allowed, they didn't but they said they would give us a table at the rear,. it fitted the bill nicely, no dogs but still near other customers so we didn't feel hidden away. Finally, the service, it was attentive but not intrusive. The price was good £75 for 2 mains 2 starters, pint of beer, large glass of wine, 2 coffees, a brandy and a Bailey's. This is not our first visit and won't be our last. My only suggestion would be that a dog free area is supplied so that those who have allergies or simply don't want to be with dogs when they are eating can be easily accommodated.

Dropped in one evening for dinner. A modern gastro type pub where they like to ‘seat you’ and take your drinks order then eventually bring you your drinks, thus avoiding the time served method of getting them yourself from the bar. Service was cheerful, but a bit slow, things like empty glasses or lack of cutlery being a challenge to them. Food though was excellent. Beef curry was superb, and great to see an extensive and dedicated gluten free menu. The menu had so many interesting options, and everything our party of 4 tried was well received. The real ale options were good - 4 local brews available, but sadly the 2 we tried had spent too long under excessive blanket co2 to taste at their best.

Have been visiting the Horse and Jockey for many years as we pass by on a canal holiday. It has never failed to live up to our expectations and is a must do stop for us. Yet again the food was excellent, and the staff couldn’t have done more for us. Will be back, and would highly recommend.

Its not often these days that chips at any pub including alleged gastro pubs are real chips. By that i mean real spuds peeled sliced and deep fried. I looked at the menu and saw the phrase “proper chips”. So i had to ask what do you mean by proper chips. It turned out that they use real potatoes peeled steamed and deep fried. Not a pre-prepped bag of frozen or oven chips anywhere they said. I had to try them. And boy they were great. proper spuds properly chipped and deep fried. Add to that the staff were attentive and enthusiastic and the beer was really well kept and well pulled. Well done the horse and jockey. Got the simple stuff right and it was a really pleasant surprise.

First class service by professional yet friendly staff from the minute that we were led to our table. Drinks ordered and served very quickly whilst we chose our food. Jack then checked if we were ready to order and answered our query clearly. Our food was served without delay. It was hot and plentiful. Jack controlled service and staff brilliantly and we heard him praising the staff, which we found lovely. All this on a busy Mother’s Day. Highly recommend

Lovely pub with good service and friendly staff. However the experience was rather let down by the disappointing Sunday roast offerings - small portions with very little meat, over-cooked vegetables and rather too much grit for my liking. The standard menu items looked much better than the Sunday roasts.

We always stop here after dropping our son off at Uni in Liverpool.The food is consistently good it has a great menu and service is always pleasant.

Great menu options including turkey dinner which was delicious as was the steak pie. Crumble and icecream were grear too. Huge carpark, just as well as it was a very busy sunday. Lovely choc lab paradea around, very friendly. Hope to be back.

I managed to get a table for 4 for 3 pm yesterday with an hours notice!! So pleased they could fit us in. We had an amazing meal!! 2 roast beef, one roast pork, and brother-in-law had steak! Superb, good value food with an imaginative menu. Something for appetites large and small. The smaller ‘taster’ plates are a great way to share starters if you are in a group. Service is excellent and always accompanied by a smile.
