Stayed for a weekend for a meet up with friends from the area, extremely friendly and helpful. The food was superb with steaks cooked to perfection and the Black Forest meringue was absolutely delicious.

Loved it here Cozy log burning fire Option to stay over. Recommended to have the Thai Green Curry and I have tobsay it was amazing. Ps, very generous in portion too...

Stumbled across this pub and I am so glad I did! The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is by far the best I’ve had in a very long time (and I eat out a lot!) wonderful options on the menu, and so tasty. A cosy vibe inside, although I live 50 mins from here I will be certainly coming back regularly to sample the whole menu.

Had a meal here today with my family who I do not see . And staff were great parking 🅿️ good my fish and chips were lovely . I highly recommend it if your visiting Leicestershire and are in the shepshed-Loughborough area

We picked this pub as a meeting place halfway between North Yorkshire and Wiltshire to meet family. Having travelled over 2 hours, we were so pleased to find such a cosy and welcoming pub with an absolutely delicious Sunday lunch. The staff are all friendly and efficient without being over bearing. The Sunday menu has a small but varied selection of starters (between 6 of us, we sampled the belly pork, Stilton and broccoli tart, prawn cocktail and the chicken wings- all delicious!) Then 5 of us had the wonderful roast beef dinner and one had the sea bass- also a triumph. With not much room for pudding, we enjoyed the lemon posset and the cookie cheesecake between us between hitting the road back home again. A real find! Thank you.

The pan fried hake with linguini was delicious. The cherry bakewell panacota was excellent as well. 30/7/2024 - seabass with prawns and mussels linguini. Very nice.

It was ok, not really for me. It gets pretty busy with the locals and with only one bar staff on my visit service was slow. Prices for drinks are on the higher end. It does look smart however the location also means someone has to drive.

Pleasant atmosphere in small pub with bar area and adjoining restaurant room. Open fire in bar area. Excellent food on the pricey side, but great friendly service. Food was fab. Bar menu (sandwiches and pizzas available in the restaurant at lunchtimes in addition to main menu). Good coffee. Plentiful parking. Tables are often booked back to back so can feel rushed to vacate for the next sitting.

We were travelling North, family was travelling south, we found this place as a convenient stop off the motorway to stop for a quick catch up. Unfortunately didn't have enough time for lunch but the menu did look nice.

Good beverages and excellent service in very pleasant surroundings. Didn't eat so can't comment.

It's always a bit risky to take visitors to somewhere you haven't eaten yourself but I needn't have worried. We had a lovely relaxed lunch with excellent food and atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again and to recommend to others.

What superb food, lamb rump cooked to perfection, pork belly so delicious it could have eaten it again, but I was too full, and quote “the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time”. Says it all. Charming helpful staff. A lovely way to start the weekend.

I went to The Horse for dinner with friends on a Monday evening, it was a nice atmosphere, very friendly and informative staff. I had the pan seared scallops and pork belly for starters which was delicious. Followed by the Mussels from the Specials for the main. The presentation and taste was incredible. Overall it was a great experience and I recommend going to anyone and will be back there soon!

Typical English pub. They also have rooms to stay in. Excellent food. I recommend the meat is good and juicy

Dropped in for lunch in the bar area as we had our dog with us. Great choices on the menu & diverse range of beers. Our food was delicious & good value - we had fish & chips, halloumi flatbread & a halloumi mushroom burger, followed by two scrumptious puds! So nice to find such a friendly welcoming pub where dogs are welcome too. Gracie was a very attentive & professional server. We will certainly be eating here again & would highly recommend.

Came to enjoy a meal with my brother and our two families and we certainly weren't disappointed. Service from Cerys and Ava was great, drinks came promptly, even doing a bespoke Pink Gin, which went down well. The food was excellent as always, most of us having steak, which was cooked to perfection. The restaurant has a relaxed, welcoming air, retaining a nod to the old White Horse, with its new The Horse look and feel. Hands down the best food, pub and restaurant in the area.

Food was fantastic (as ever), staff very friendly and service was excellent. Cerys and Ava, the waitresses, were very knowledgeable regards the menu and the chef, Lloyd, certainly knows his stuff! Will definitely be regular customers.

Fabulous food place, and nice bar area

On the basis of the reviews I was expecting much more to be honest. When we arrived, we had to wait for 15 minutes for our table to be prepared, despite arriving on time. Had this been the only inconvenience it might have been easily dismissed However, on being seated, we were advised that one of the main dishes on the menu was not available. This was a shame as it was a chicken dish that two of us had decided that we were going to have in advance. After ordering our food the waiter cane back to inform me that the lamb dish (my second choice of main) was also not available! As the main menu is not particularly extensive and these two dishes were the ones most of us were looking forward to having this was quite a disappointment and unforgivable for a reputable restaurant. I should add our table was booked for 7:30 pm. It was not as if we had arrived very late and there may have been a small excuse for possibly one of the dishes running out! When the food arrived it was a bit of a mixed bag. The starters were nice, although the portion sizes, even for starters, were a little small. When it came to the main course I had my 3rd choice -the pork (it was advertised as a Parma ham wrapped fillet but instead it was just a pork chop with no Parma ham!) which was very dry and overcooked, the accompaniments were also uninspiring with smears of fairly tasteless purée. My wife had the mixed fish dish which was much better. The stars of the show though were the two pizzas that my adult children ordered. The desserts were also lovely. so, all in all are pretty disappointing experience considering we spent £175 for the ‘pleasure’. If you do go, I would suggest you stick to the pizzas. Although you would get something equally as nice in a decent pizza restaurant for half the price.

A great night. The company was fabulous but so was the experience. A lovely waiter, happy to help, polite and friendly. The food was beautiful hot, fresh, tasty and well presented. The fish and chips was huge but really lovely, the lamb was cooked to perfection, served beautifully. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. the service was great as was the atmosphere.

Stopped off here on the way to Sheffield from Sussex. Food was great, good choice of ‘pub’ grub in a pleasant atmosphere with welcoming staff. Will look out for it again when travelling up.

This place is a hidden gem ,the staff really helpful and friendly, with a ¹relaxed atmosphere. Food was honestly out of this world, my other half had the lamb special and I had chicken, both dishes well presented and tasted delicious I will be going back ,me personally would give the horse 11 out of 10

Stopped here a few times on our way up North! Excellent food and superb service. Just stopped for lunch - outstanding! I had the Philly Steak flat bread which was delicious. Great coffee too!

Lovely place, nice interiors & staff seemed friendly, but we went for the lunch menu in which was not available, so disappointed. We ended up with pizza & sides between us. Pudding plated really well looked delicious, unfortunately the white chocolate & vanilla cheesecake with blueberry jelly on top, only tasted of vanilla, meringue was nice and also presented well.

Great pub food. I had a burger for dinner- wouldn’t be my usual choice but it was fantastic. Stayed over and the full English was the best I’ve ever had. Well done to the chef

Remember this is a pub. Now forget your idea of a pub. This place is upmarket with 2 defined areas. Drinking/socialising and dining. We dined. We were thoroughly pampered by the staff. The food was of a superior standard. They offered a selection of pizzas that were cooked outside in a proper pizza oven. Even though I can't stand pizzas, I was impressed. Drink is plentiful with everything on offer from real ale to wine/spirits. All to a decent standard although the Bass was a little disappointing but that's me being an ultra critical real ale expert. This has been added to our list of places to eat.

3 stars is purely down to the slow service and the small portions. Sadly for those two issues we won't be returning. The service could have just been a case of a bad day at the office but there's no excuse for small portions being over priced

It was a very good evening. On reflection it is possible to say that the staff at The Horse were faultless, from the owner, to the crew they were all very pleasant, engaged, intelligent, polite, friendly and all contributed to a really nice evening. The food and drink was superb. There is a lot of competition in a 10 mile radius of this pub, touching on Charnwood villages. The Horse is amongst the best. When I say "faultless", I can think of no aspect of the evening that was not "spot on".

Lovely pub. Very helpful when booking as I had questions about our dog coming. Staff are lovely and welcoming. Food was outstanding. I recommend the ‘ham, egg and chips’ starter! Great quality food and large portion size. Well presented and a broad menu on offer. Cannot fault anything about our experience - just wish this was my local.

This was our annual Christmas 🎄 Secret Santa 🎅 dinner table for 6. The service was excellent, as was the food quality, totally delicious. The atmosphere was friendly, welcoming and cosy, the staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were delighted and had a wonderful evening. Thank you all very much. We stopped in at 22:35pm after getting stuck in traffic on the M1. The staff were so kind, letting us have a quick pint and bring our husky in. After talking to them about finding a place to park up our camper for the night, they let us use their car park. We didn’t eat so can’t rate the food however the atmosphere was lovely, log burner was on and was very cosy inside. Would definitely go again! Thank you ☺️

Our go to restaurant for a date night or special occasion. The serving staff are lovely and the food is always delicious with the menu being regularly updated. The cocktails are also great. Will continue returning!

Booked over the phone, on arrival they couldn't find our booking. Once seated other people were getting served before us despite them arriving after us. Food was ok, small portion sizes and very expensive. The desserts were absolutely tiny, and for £9 each we thought they were a rip off. Possibly the only time we have ever had 3 courses in a restaurant and left still hungry. We won't be returning.

Lovely accommodation in a good location with plenty of parking. On the main Ashby road, but rooms set back aways so no noise from the road or the pub. The breakfast choices were good and ours was yummy (full english).

THE HORSE IN YOUR GARDEN The Horse provided the food for a family party and all I can say is WOW! The food was amazing and the salads superb! We would definitely consider having them do the food for futures events it was simply amazing to have The Horse at home (or the garden in this case).

Our group of six all enjoyed our Sunday lunch, the beef is normally served pink but one person preferred it not pink and this was accommodated, I can recommend the gammon, and the child's fish fingers looked very good too, the Abbot Ale was also very good. WARNING revisited and checked the website before booking and it shows Sunday lunch 2 courses £19.95 when we arrived we were handed menus which stated 2 courses £25.95.

Oh what a charming place with amazing food, all locally sourced. I went with my family the children were well catered for. Staff polite and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. I suggest making a reservation as the restaurant gets extremely busy. Even at 5pm...

My wife and I had booked a table for two and were placed in front of the fire escape door. My wife's chair also hid the fire extinguisher 🧯. The service was very slow but the food quite good. We wouldn't go again, if there was a fire the escape door was blocked by a table and the extinguisher was not visible behind a chair. It was potentially dangerous.

The team have done a great job since taking over (a while ago now). Good food IMHO (my mates swear by their Sunday lunch), good local bitters and a nice pint of Guinness (can't comment on the lagers) and always a warm welcome. Love the spicy king prawn starter and Monday Burgers are good. Cheers!

We stayed at the hotel when meeting up with friends. Originally looking for a venue that was halfway between both our starting points we were drawn here due to the excellent reviews. Positives - with the exception of the completely burnt (should have been chargrilled)...
