The Hope & Ruin in Brighton and Hove

I visited Hope and Ruin solo whilst in Brighton and really liked my time there. Staff were very friendly throughout, nice range of drinks on tap and the food I had was amazing with so much flavour. The place in general has a great vibe to it aswell. One of my favourite places I've been to in Brighton already and if I come back again I'll happily visit once more

So glad we decided to try the Hope & Ruin. We were looking for live music and weren't disappointed. Went upstairs to This Feeling and saw three great bands - Off The Grid, Superdays and Spooky Huge (sadly we missed the first band of the evening). Came back downstairs afterwards and enjoyed the music down there too. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Really loved the mix of people in there, range of ages, dress etc. Felt v inclusive. Thanks for a great night 👍

It's a lovely place, but I found the staff to be really unpleasant. I have wanted to come here for a while, but I won't be visiting again.

went for a couple of drinks with friends, only complaint is that we felt as though we where bothering one of the bar staff whenever ordering drinks but they may have just been having a bad day! Really nice decor and music, drinks not too expensive and really nice, didn’t try any food but will defo be back :)

Nice decor and good djing at the soul drops night, prices pretty good and cocktails were nice but not a big selection. Friendly staff too.

I have always loved the hope and ruin, food is yummy atmosphere has always been great. However, the past two times I have been the staff have been utterly rude. I brought my younger brother here for burger night, we hadn’t been out much since COVID and it was a real special treat but when I asked a question about where the toilet was it was as if I’d spat in this mans face he seemed horrified I’d even asked a question. I brushed this off even though I felt uncomfortable and unwanted by the staff. I thought I’d give it another try for a friends birthday, and yet again when one of the staff was clearing the table I helped by passing glasses when a drink got knocked over, in jest we asked if it could be replaced and this joke was met with a barrage of sarcastic slurs making the whole table feel uncomfortable and unwanted again. He dropped off some cleaning stuff then took it away before we’d even had a chance to clean, one member of our party went to get the cleaning stuff back and let this particular member of staff know that we were uncomfortable he then proceeded to come over to our table and try and argue with us in quite an aggressive manner. Unfortunately we had to leave as much as we wanted to stay and carry on spending what money we have supporting a local business.

Retro pub, we were sat at the old style space invaders machine which wasn’t working, gutted I would have likeda try on the old style game. Drinks you order through the app, arrived quickly. Great funky pub to try whilst visiting Brighton.

He estado en The Hope & Ruin un montón de veces, ya que es uno de mis pubs favoritos en Brighton. Personal amable realmente encantador, gran selección de cervezas y bebidas. La comida de Beelzebab es increíble y siempre hay un ambiente muy agradable. Definitivamente, uno de mis lugares a los que ir para reunirme con amigos, o llevar amigos cuando visite Brighton.Falta la música en vivo y los DJs debido a COVID - 19, pero realmente me alegro de verlos hacer que funcione con los nuevos procedimientos implementados y sin perder nada de su encanto y carácter. No es bueno. Seis hombres entraron después de reservar una mesa para 6 toda la noche a partir de las 18. 00. Después de 2 horas, un "gerente" muy grosero nos pidió que nos fuéramos porque habíamos tomado demasiado. Al preguntarle por qué pensaba que habíamos bebido demasiado, el "gerente" dijo que no podía dar cuenta de ninguna cantidad de bebidas ordenadas en su sistema de pedidos en línea, pero que habíamos tenido varios tragos. Habíamos pedido 6 tragos, uno por persona y teníamos 3 pintas de cerveza cada uno. Incluso el portero se disculpó por las acciones del "gerente", que parecía ser un niño de 13 años hambriento de poder. No me importa que me pidan que me vaya si hubiera una razón, pero que me pidan que me vaya sin tener un conocimiento real de lo que se nos acusa es terrible. Al preguntarle al "gerente" por qué nos pedía que nos fuéramos, se enojó y amenazó con que el portero nos expulsara. Uno de nuestro grupo tuvo que pedirle que se calmara ya que era muy agresivo. No tiene grandes habilidades de gestión, especialmente cuando se combina con la falta de comprensión de los pedidos hechos a la mesa. Creo que el gerente se llamaba Perkins. No es un gran empleado ya que todos somos locales y no nos molestaremos en volver con tantos bares mejores en Brighton. Qué noche tan terrible.

Dios mío, realmente tienes que ir a probar los hot dogs veganos y siempre pedir poppers más pengest porque te enamorarás de ellos. Honestamente, ¡los poppers más pendejos son como lo mejor que ha sucedido en este mundo!El personal es súper agradable y todo el lugar tiene un ambiente muy único y bueno. Se llena por la noche, así que si no le gusta estar ocupado, vaya allí temprano en la tarde como yo y pida algo de las ofertas especiales del mes y los poppers más pengest. ¡AMOR!

Should have taken heed of the name... I hoped for a great meal but was actually pretty ruined!I attended this place a few days ago with friends, one of them had been before and said it was nice. We all ordered the Dirty Dog I think it was called?? A vegan hot dog with kebab meat and chilli sauce... it just turned out to be a bit of a sloppy mess in a soggy finger roll, if they were going for the just come out of a nightclub, doesn’t matter what we serve as our punters are all drunk then it was spot on, however if it was meant to be exciting, tasty vegan food then it fell short. Won’t be hurrying back I’m sad to say... i am vegan and there aren’t many vegan places to choose from... sad emoji ☹️

He estado en este moderno pub de Brighton varias veces y tengo que decir que es entretenido de muchas maneras, el Owen Jones se parece y los veganos de moda se mezclan y el lugar da la bienvenida a todos en un ambiente muy amigable, la comida es un buen intento el donante con patatas fritas es muy sabroso.

Como si hubiera pasado un año desde la última vez que visité uno de mis lugares favoritos. La misma bienvenida amigable de siempre. El menú también era el mismo. Genial, ya que podría tener mi favorito personal. El Big Ben. Un gran seitán kebab con un gran perro de tofu también.La elección de papas fritas fue una elección difícil. Opté por papas fritas cubiertas con rodajas de salchicha de tofu y salsa de tomate al curry. Había demasiada salsa de tomate para mi gusto. Sin embargo, esto no cambia la épica de contratación, ¡la comida es!Los codiciosos ojos de cerdo todavía querían más del menú. Pepinillos fritos con mayonesa de mostaza. Justo cuando los encurtidos no podían mejorar, ¡encuentro esta deliciosa monstruosidad! !Gracias de nuevo. Espero que no pasen 365 días hasta que regrese.

Comí aquí con amigos en una noche de sábado ocupada y bulliciosa. El menú era bastante interesante y había una buena oferta de bebidas. El Dutty IPA fue realmente bueno, y también disfruté un poco de sidra caliente caliente. Sin embargo, la comida no era tan buena. Todo parecía empapado en una salsa increíblemente picante y desafortunadamente esto arruinó gran parte de la comida.Sin embargo, la decoración interior ofrece algunos puntos adicionales, y si puede manejar alimentos bastante calientes, entonces no tendrá ningún problema.

Absolutamente me encantó este lugar y si viviera más cerca, definitivamente sería mi habitual. Es muy agradable ir a un lugar donde cada bebida y cada alimento es vegano. Las cervezas artesanales eran realmente buenas, recomiendo la esperanza y la ruina pale ale. La comida reconfortante fue excepcional. Teníamos tres platos para compartir entre nosotros dos y realmente dieron en el clavo. La carne y las papas fritas eran las favoritas. Tenía un muy buen ambiente en el pub y el personal era encantador. Definitivamente volveremos antes de irnos

Ordered a lager and three other beers, a main meal and a side. The Barman suggests I swap the lager for an ipa which he prefers, so i took his advice. He's a barman after all. I took a sip of the beer, it wasn't to my taste, so I took another to confirm it.. still, the beer was no good to me. I took it back to the bar and the barman was shifty with me. He made me feel 10cm tall, which is ironic because I'm over 6ft tall and part of a barmans role is usually to welcome the customer.. He implied I was the problem.So i took a seat, feeling a bit deflated. I tried to sip the beer but it was simply sour tasting and not my bag. So I went back to the bar, and ordered a half of the lager I originally ordered and explained my situation again. The barman claimed that I obviously didn't appreciate good beer, which is really a matter of opinion in my opibook which is also matter of personal taste. Still, I get it, you get what you pay for. So when he asked me for £3 for the new half I simply asked, I wonder if i could have this one on the house. Boy was this the wrong thing to say. The barman clearly had no time for this unhappy customer and proceeded to explain how the trade buisness works.So i walked away, we only came for a bquick beer and a bite to eat, instead I got a some bad attitude, a lecture on buisness ethics and half a beer. The food however was 10/10.

Our last stop before heading home was the fabulous Hope and Ruin! And boy did we save the best till last :)Everything from the quaint interior to the bathtub seat provided the perfect setting for what came next.. which was nothing short of a banquet of seitanical goodness!The Big Ben went so well with the Meat n Chips they may aswell get married and skip off into the sunset.. The Dirty Kraut Tofu Dog was so filthy I almost turned on the tap in the bath I was sat in..The Currywurst Loaded Bratwurst Fries has me licking my lips in a state of saucy bliss for days..And the Genius who invented Deep Fried Breaded Olives could do with marching themselves down to the Den of Dragons!And that was just the main course! Then came pudding..The Creamiest Dollop of Biscoff Ice Cream, sat so proudly next to a Rich slab of Toastie Warm Brownie.. It’s smell alone made it almost a crime to eat it.. almost!There really is nothing to lose and everything to gain from a trip to the Hope and Ruin.. Certainly one to tick off my bucket list :)

This artistic pub [great decor] serves dirty vegan kebabs and hotdogs which are out of this world good. Also [formerly at East Street Tap] Beelzeburger- best vegan burgers ever now features one weds a month at this pub.

Any vegan burger I eat, I base on a Mooshies. Now all hot dogs/sausages I base on Herman Ze German. I had a Dirty Kraut hot dog, which was good enough for me, but totally different than a Herman Ze German vegan curry Wurst. If ever in Brighton again, I’d revisit. The service was fast, the food was served fast and eaten just as fast.Worth a visit if in Brighton.

Me and my wife went here for dinner after having it recommended as a 100% vegan pub and weren't disappointed. I had 'fries a go go', which were awesome! The gooey vegan cheese on them was gorgeous too.

Hope and ruin is a great pub! Being in Brighton we set out to look for a quirky pub and I think this one has to be top of the list.

So much personality in this cosy lil pub, & the menu is spectacular. Some of the best vegan comfort food I’ve ever eaten. I go there virtually every time I visit Brighton, I love it.

Was absolutely starving and ordered so much food and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Everything is reasonable prices, full of flavour and great portions sizes. Having all vegan food is one thing but it’s rare having a vegan bar too!

In Brighton on a business trip, but popped into The Hope and Ruin for a jaunt. I was expecting to get ruined but by the end of the happy hour was full of hope (also ruined). The tall gentleman with long brown hair behind the bar made me feel very welcome and recommended the special hot dog. The next time I’m in Brighton I will return for a second helping of spicy sausage.

The beer and food was good when we visited on a quiet Sun lunchtime, but the service was terrible.

Great selection of beers, super atmosphere, 100% vegan. Decor is very Brighton, staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on tap. The food is simply amazing and any vegan junk food enthusiast should come here!! I've been more times than I care to mention! Brought several meat eating friends and they've loved the delicious vegan food, especially the poppers and the kebab. Always bring out of town friends here for a drink as it is such a cool venue. Been to gigs upstairs too and it's a really personal space so a great gig experience.

The food here is amazing, the best vegan food I’ve had since becoming vegan!! Would be nice if there was a little bit more light inside as it was quite dark but other than that I can’t fault the place - staff were really friendly

This wonderful establishment is home to Brighton's tastiest vegan junk food as well as a fantastic, top quality music venue. The amount of good artists that have played The Hope and Ruin is unimaginable and it is an important pillar of Brighton's and the UKs live music culture. Staff are always helpful and the bars playlist has everything from funk and jazz to rock and punk. I can't recommend TH&R; enough to anyone who is hungry for tasty vegan junk food and some delicious alternative culture.

Atmosphere was good but food was nothing more than cheesy (vegan cheese) chips, cheesy chips with tofu and bolognese sauce and cheesy chips with gravy, fake chicken nuggets and other oddities which should come with a health warning. Selection of beers was good but barmaid looked like she had just stepped in something and was unfriendly. The barman gazed into space possibly dreaming of playing his ocarina around some eco camp in Chile. Overall it was OK, good to observe some of the right on Brighton posse.

A generic I've been to Brighton, can't go to Brighton without visiting hope and ruin review. I'm pleased to stay the standard has not slipped. The vegan junk food was as amazing as it always has been. Even better, still sea cider was on tap!!!

My son and his girlfriend are vegan, we're meat eaters, but it wasn't a problem here. I had the hotdog with chilli with a shared side of fries with peanut butter and jelly. You wouldn't know that the hotdog is meat free -delicious. The fries were on the next level, who'd have thought that adding peanut butter and jam to fries was a thing, OMG divine.

My friend’s tiny little friendly dogs were refused entry to this pub for the first time recently. Avoid

I've been here dozens of times before with my little dogs. So have other people.

The food is always great here and we come regularly. After a recent holiday to Berlin, where we discovered currywurst, I remembered it was also on the menu here (having no idea about it before).

Having been present when the former review made by Matt Philips took place I can clarify that this response from the manager is simply not true, she did in fact not ask the group with words and did in fact click her fingers and make quiet noises at him. There were others who all saw the same thing and can back up the incident as was described. The managers response makes me wonder if she read the review in full before responding as it felt as if many important details of my associates review wasn't addressed or simply ignored as much of her response addresses elements that were never disputed like the issue being with the request rather than with her behaviour.

Rude staff. This seems to be a common trend with this place looking at the other reviews and my experience was no different. I was meeting people at this venue and had just visited another venue and so I had an external beverage with me. I wanted to make sure my friends knew we were there on-time and the beverage was almost finished so we decided to go in and say hello thinking that if the staff took issue with us having an external beverage they could ask us to remove it and we would have done so.

I came here a month ago and the hot dog was disgusting - microwaved and soggy, when I complained the staff were not helpful or nice at all. I decided to come back again to give the place another chance and we ordered fries and vegan chicken poppers... the fries came out wrong, which is fine but when I went to bar to let them know we did not order that, two men were too busy having a conversation to even acknowledge me(one in a white shirt and a cap)- again, very rude.

Went to see Chainska Brassika here and the venue was fab. Great venue with a great selection of beer and food especially if you're vegan. Staff were very helpful also.

My son is vegan My wife is vegetarian I eat pretty well anything, except try to avoid red meat. But we all loved our meals Top notch tucker (even the dog relaxed!)

Went to see Sam Amidon. Been a big fan since catching him with Nico Muhly at the Barbican years ago. He was, as usual, tremendous. But the place...filthy, stinky, unkempt. The toilet was a hell-hole. Pity that this was the place at which Amidon had to appear in Brighton. Beer was ok, venue ok as a space but, please, get a cleaning team in to render the place hygienic?

I wandered past on my way from the station and noticed the sign for vegan food, so of course i HAD to return that night to sample the offerings.

Came here for a drink with friends. Never been served by such a miserable looking woman before.Didn’t see her smile at anyone once. Puts you off coming back. Oh,and the toilets are filthy.

Great bar with a post-apocalyptic Max Max decor, which is pretty cool. We arrived on a Sat night for drinks and dropped lucky on Dad Rock, which meant excellent 70's classic rock - and in my book B.O.C = A.O.K! The place was rammed with a great atmosphere, good bar service & fine selection of beers. They also specialize in vegan fast food which was in demand, served from a caravan-sawn-in-half-kitchen, but we didn't try. One criticism: I agree with another reviewer, the toilets were indeed in a festival state, yuk, there’s no excuse for that, sort it guys. However, we really liked this place & will definitely visit again when in town. If you like an alternative to the generic Wetherspoons droid palace & appreciate a cool independent vibe, check this place out. Don't Fear the Reaper.

The best pub in town super hype and so central and all vegan drinks and food ! I can’t recommend enough . About 5min walk from Brighton train station

Went in on a quiet weekday afternoon with friends and we ordered food separately. I was last to go and ordered some food, the guy on the bar looked at me funny when I ordered the food and then I said “ummmm and a bottle of coke”. The bloke behind the bar said “please?” which caught me off guard so I said pardon? He said “please” again to me with a look of contempt on his face and made it quite clear that he wasn’t going to get me a drink until I said please. So I said please and paid. Got back to our table and I got pretty upset as I’ve had a really rough couple of weeks and this was a bit of a treat for me. Wasn’t going to enjoy eating in there because we all felt uncomfortable so we decided it was for the best that we leave. I went outside and a member of the party asked for a full refund (which we got no questions asked) and told him that he’s ruined our meal. No apology from him. Really horrible experience.

I came here with the hope of eating delicious junk food and being surrounded by wacky and fun decorations. That hope was 100% fulfilled. The staff are super chilled, the food is delicious and reasonable priced, AND I don't doubt that any omnivore would happily eat here and come back for more.

We visited here as a family with our young son (2 days in a row) on our recent trip to Brighton, loved the place, laid back friendly vibe, the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Had hot dogs, poppers, loaded fries and kebabs over our visits and all were awesome, we’ve been to quite a few vegan junk food places and this was one of the better ones. Would especially recommend the kebab, battered pickles and breaded olives (dirty little lads).

Great for live music, good vibe with lots of different space for groups to connect. Didn't eat there but food looked good. Think it specialises in vegan food, people were tucking in with gusto. Upstairs bar for live music was a good sized space with decent acoustics. Set up was very professional from the in-house technician.

Loved this excellent bar - decor is amazing with bathtub benches, sticker plastered toilet and amazing tasty vegan junk food! Friendly service and great prices - dive bar heaven and 666% vegan!

Have been to brighten a few times recently and visit here every time without fail. So many delicious options and the vegan poppers and the special sauce are so more-ish. The decor is really quirky and they serve all kinds of loaded fries, hot dogs and burgers. Huge selection of beers and ales too.

Me and my close friend attended the Hope and Ruin on Saturday late afternoon. Wanting some tasty vegan fast food. We ordered the chilli cheese dog, which turned up with no cheese. When we asked the waiter where the cheese was, we were told we would have to go up to the bar and pay extra to have the cheese, so clearly our order was not taken down properly at the bar. The chilli dog was not tasty at all (I've had very good vegan fast food in Glasgow (Bloc) this really didn't taste nice at all, and I was unable to eat it) The fries peanut butter and Jelly were the saving grace of this meal. We found that the staff were very quick to try and collect your plates and cups etc, even though there weren't many people in there. Found the staff quite rude and unhelpful. The toilets were in a festival state, and we could not use them. It looks a cool place, with the decor etc, but the atmosphere and staff enthusiasm needs improvement. There's being trendy, hipster and cool, but when it comes off as rude it bloody ruins it.Sort it out Hope and Ruin!

I am addicted to the Fries-A-Go-Go at this place. All the fast food here is vegan and totally delicous. Alos a great choice of beers, especially during happy hour where local craft ales are only £3.60 a pint. A great after-work spot.

I was here about a year ago and was overwhelmed by the menu selection but unfortunately wasn't hungry.

The Hope & Ruin is a fantastic pub with quirky décor and the guiltiest kind of vegan guilty pleasure food. While the food menu is small, it's all vegan and it's exactly the kind of food you want to eat in a pub. They have fried pickles and olives, an array of hot dogs, and amazing loaded fries

I love it here and always eat here. Menu is amazing and he amount of cheese you get is perfect. Only wish the staff were more kind and smiled more.....

Great gig upstairs ruined only by the appalling service fronm the two young women working the bar upstairs. Both more interested in their mobile phone conversations than serving the polite and patient punters waiting to be served. I was appalled and felt disrespected and humiliated by the rude service. I would love to get a reply to this but doubt that I will.

Want for the gig last night. Staff were lovely and happy to chat with me about beer even reccomending what I night like. Very welcoming and generally a very nice atmosphere. Went back for lunch today. Food was super and easily catered for the different dietary needs of our group. Generally a lovely place.

Visited here for lunch with a friend and was very disappointed with the way I was treated. I have a food intolerance - when I tried to check with the bar staff was simply told that I should avoid everything on the menu except a plain hot dog, although I was confused as to how the item to which I am intolerant could possibly be in some of the ingredients. The member of bar staff seemed more concerned with looking cool than actually helping customers, and refused to even check with kitchen about their food, or help me to find appropriate dishes.

Popped in for a quick drink on Sunday. The bar staff were really friendly and welcoming. Tried some of the vegan food and even though we are carnivores we were impressed. The 'chicken' poppers were delish! Will definitely be back.

We came across this pub past summer not enjoying getting soaked walking back to Brighton station on a Sunday outing to the shops we popped in. Wow it’s amazing full of vibe ageless, classless and unique. We loved it’s Brighton unpretentious vibe. Since then of a gloomy Sunday we head there for pre theatre/cinema drinks and dinner. Whilst neither me of my partner vegan. The food is consistently amazing can recommend The chilli cheese chips and hot dog curry chips you would never know there was no meat involved. So worth a visit for a drink with a wonderful vibe or a value for money meal.

Was a bit daunted when I walked in as it looked like a student pub, with lots of people colouring in on bits of paper. However the staff were friendly, service quick, and the place had a laidback eclectic vibe. Shall go again to try the food!

The food itself was very good, and also the atmosphere was pretty chill. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend this place to anyone!

I'm a big fan as it is of being able to find good vegan junk food when you need it. There's not enough of it! And usually when you do find it, it's mediocre at best! As a chef myself, I'm particular in my tastes when I eat out, but beezlebab does not disappoint! If what you fancy is a big plate of loaded fries with jackfruit, cheese and crispy onion, or better yet- a hearty hotdog with plenty of toppings to choose from, you've come to the right place! I'm a bit of a health freak at times, but even eating their 'junk food' menu of hotdogs, fries and sides, I never come away with that heavy feeling you can get from a lot of 'dirty' menus.

Visited here In February on a weekend trip from London. Have tried a lot of the vegan restaurants in Brighton but this one stood out as different and I love vegan 'junk food'! So had to try it. Liked the fact it’s in s pub too.

We only came in for a drink just to see what it would be like as we have never tried this pub in Brighton before..

The title is a lie!! Went on the 11th after a friend recommended it. Decent size bar downstairs serving a good selection of craft beers. Upstairs was a night put on by Acid Box. It certainly wasn’t quiet! 3 bands. All different. Pick of the lot in my opinion was Avalanche Party. Catch them on BBC Radio 6 on 15th March!

This was the best place I ate vegan in Brighton, hands down.

What a great place. If you are happy living plant based but sneakily miss the odd doner kebab then this is the place for you. Various ingenious vegan meals are served from within a little caravan on the pub. The beer is great as is the atmosphere, check out the dog of the month too.

I came here with my other half randomly. We were on our way to another restaurant and saw the board promoting vegan food as we walked past.

Myself and my partner popped in here for a drink on a Saturday afternoon. Lovely pub full of atmosphere. Lots of beer choice. The food smelled amazing, Drinks were reasonably priced. I loved the décor there was so much to look at we were both spotting different things each time. Was warm and friendly. Would most definitely be going back next time we are in Brighton.

Came here after work for a pint and some dinner with a vegan pal. The food was super, even for an avid meat eater such as myself (had a hotdog and some fried battered gherkins).

Well located in the city just down the road from the station in Queens Road. Just loved the decor gave it a real eclectic feel. The staff were friendly and helpful the menu was not expensive with great portions. Worth a visit.

This had the most amazing decor, the best vegan menu and the staff were super friendly too. We had a drink here and decided to get some food and were not disappointed. I'm not vegan but the food was so so good, I would advise anyone to come and try it out. They had a really good range of drinks too - we'll definitely be returning.

Both my hubby and I loved this place (hubby 1 month vegan. me: 1 year vegan) This is naughty Vegan junk food at it's best! Really chilled vibe and friendly staff.

We had heard about this pub with Vegan food, so thought we'd try it out.

I am a fatty because I had already had food before coming out but when I saw the menu I could not resist a ‘norm’ dog and battered pickles. My OH said it would be fine as its vegan and no one ever sees a fat vegan ha ha. The food was excellent and I just wish I had more room to try the other dishes. I will be going back. The decor in here is really unique and awesome too. Staff are top dollar. Loved it.

Visited Brighton for the weekend with friends and called in here with a view to enjoying a nice bite to eat and drink. Unfortunately the staff were extremely rude and unfriendly and in fact we were shocked by their poor attitude. Food is "Junk" cheap and cheerful variety without the cheerful. Brighton has many lovely restaurants and bars where the staff actually appreciate your custom and know how to make customers welcome and I recommend you visit one of them.

Happened to find this place while in Brighton for the day from Norwich and looking for food. I'm not vegan, so could have gone anywhere but I'm so glad I didn't!

I am not a vegan myself, but I opted for the Beelzebab and I was surprised at how great it was! It was not unlike a real doner kebab as obviously you could tell it was made of seitan, but it was full of flavour and came with a great hot sauce (better than your usual kebab house).

The food here is brilliant if you are craving a really comforting meal. The flavours were great and the helpings are very generous. The only thing I would criticise is the over-use of garlic - me and my friends found a whole raw clove in each of our meals which was not pleasant at all.

The food in this place is just wonderful. The kebabs are really good, but the hot dogs are out of this world. I also highly recommend their chips, sold with a number of different options. The melty cheese is awesome, probably the best vegan melty cheese I have had.

The Hope & Ruin is a pub and live music venue, with a vegan kitchen run by Beelzebab and is a pub like no other, with an ecletic and wacky decor, with items like old washing machines incorporated as furniture.

This place is so attractive, good music and drinks and good food!! The staff is really friendly and it's really nice to spend time there :)

Beelzebab is the food restaurant inside pub there, best vegan junk food ever, you must go! Super friendly chef , great prices and addictive food, can't wait to go back!

My vegan friend was visiting Brighton, so I took her here as I'd heard about beelzebab a while ago. She claimed that it was possibly the best vegan food she's ever eaten.

Loved the theming in here and a real mixture of people which is great on a night out. Drinks reasonably priced good location and good music. Nice place to start the night and close to the station if you want to end the night here too.

I found this place while out Christmas shopping and today, I thought I would show my wife a good lunch stop after visiting the shops before the walk back to the station. A selection of ales and lager. And some tasty food. She enjoyed the quirky decor. The service was friendly and the food arrived in a short time. Although, I should add, it wasn't very busy. We must comeback and try something else from the menu , she said.

If you're after hangover cures or some pre-drinking (or whilst drinking) vegan grub, then look no further! Absolutely LOADED vegan food with cheese-sauce and taste a-plenty. I had the 'kebab' and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Great decor in the bar, and a great atmosphere to boot. Could not find any fault in any of it even if I tried. A must-eat for any vegan in town or visiting Brighton.

Make a point if coming here on our Brighton visits. The vegan hot dogs are quite stunning and that these are served in a very quirky cool electic bar is impressive. By night this is a full in grunge like venue and popular. By day it's calm relaxing and fine for my 10 year old who loves the board games and arcade game.

I had no idea this place did vegan food so we decided to go and see what it was like. They have a small menu, with loaded fries, hot dogs and a kebab.But they certainly do them well.

This is one of those 'vegans have to try this at least once' type meals! The setting is super cool, in a quirky little pub full of chatter and fun design. The food on offer is the famous vegan doner and then various hot dogs and loaded fries. We opted for the Beelzebab doner with a loaded fries, and how glad we were to have gone and done it. The doner itself was in a massive brown artisan pita filled with salad, doner meat which I think was high quality seitan, garlic sauce and chilli sauce. It was all so delicious. The only criticism I have is that a lot of the salad was cabbage (loads of it) and I would have preferred shredded lettuce. The loaded fries had thousand island sauce, cheese and crispy onions and they were so good, especially the thousand island sauce. Such good value for money!

Great place for vegans to go eat! The inside is cool, very different to other pubs around in Brighton. The food is really good and I admire the story behind how the chef went from having a vegan stall at festivals to now providing such delicious vegan hotdogs and vegan cheesy chips in a pub. Haven't got to try their ice cream and brownies yet because they've always sold out whenever I've tried, suggesting their brownies and ice cream is just as good as their hotdogs. Definitely recommend

Whenever I'm in Brighton this is my go-to pub. Friendly staff, good music, interesting décor, always seats, good food. It's shabby chic you must say, but it never steps over the line into pretentiousness. Definitely worth a try.

Best vegan hot dogs on earth - and impressive menu of other amazingness. Great beers, atmosphere and quirky interior.

This is a great bar, a bit rough around the edges, quirky decor and a great atmosphere. Relaxed, fun and the music not too loud - could still have a conversation! One of our group didn't really like the beers we tried, but there's a good selection so perhaps we were just unlucky or fussy!
