The Hope Hotel in Southend-on-Sea

Very nice little hotel with friendly personnel. The room was comfy, clean and big at a good price - very recommendable. Thank you team!

Honestly amazing, came here a month ago, 2 hours away and the staff were lovely and accommodating, definitely recommend and I’ll definitely be back

Didn't stay here but had an evening in the pub. Proper British seaside pub with great barstaff with reasonable prices for drinks in a great location

Friendly staff, wish them the best but I felt scammed. Pictures and rooms are not the same, damaged forniture and was smelling quite bad inside the room . They also gave us the breakfast, really basic food. Can be good if you looking for a really really cheap location…but not sure if has really that value. I would give 5 stars if I wouldn’t feel tricked cuz of the difference between nice pics and reality.

For the price you can’t complain, you get breakfast included too, and the view was amazing! It’s your classic pub hotel, can’t really go wrong with that🤷🏻‍♀️and from arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Do not know about the rooms here, but the rooms around the corner are great! They always look after us, and we always enjoy drinking there when on holiday!

For a seaside pub this place isn't really my kind of venue but that's my take on the place. Service was swift and very friendly, draught drinks well presented, cool and good to taste. I've only been there a couple of times but managed to get a table outside on each occasion. A beer and a bustling seaside on a sunny day, what's not to like after a decent walk!

Staff were very very friendly in the bar. Breakfast was great, full english, cereal, juice, lovely coffee. Staff during breakfast were great too, very welcoming. We didn't have a room in the main hotel, but one of their guest houses around the corner, not a problem as so close. The room was really well decorated, let down by a smell of stale smoke, then fresh smell when we went down for breakfast, so, not sure if someone smoking in there. Room itself was clean, bedding and towels etc, the mattress was horrendous, and I mean really bad in both beds, may as well be sleeping on springs. Skids in loo, bits all over window sill had also fallen onto cistern top. We wiped it down with wet wipes, but should have been checked, bin not emptied properly, Kettle full of water and a black blob floating around, didn't want to go into packed bar to moan. Shower tray fills up with water too, so had to get out before it flowed onto bathroom floor. Beware if you park in Lucy Road Car park, I parked in middle of car park, friend closer to the road opposite club but further down towards entrance, she had her window screen put through, no doubt some drunk imbecile thinking its funny.

Hotel and staff excellent very clean and great atmosphere will definitely see u in summer the boss George makes u Moore then we'll come

Staff were great and breakfast was fine but I suggest even if you get confirmation stating that you're booked in to call the Hotel in advance to actually confirm that you get the room you've paid for.

Overall get your moneys worth it was £60 per night breakfast included. The hotel is not extravagant but it is most certainly worth the money you pay for it. The staff was very friendly and specifically there were two gentleman named Allen and Michael, who are very helpful with whatever it is that I needed. I read some bad reviews about this place before coming so I was very careful and in my honest opinion it is nowhere near as bad as what other people have said it is on the reviews. I would definitely recommend coming if you’re just here to stay overnight for a holiday

Never stayed in the hotel but I come for the occasional pint down here every now and again would recommend cheaper than the other pubs and it's on the seafront

I've been to this pub several times. It is very beautiful when the weather is good to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The service is very good. Drinks are not expensive. The atmosphere inside the pub is very friendly. Live music and karaoke. The location of the pub is near the sea. If you want to enjoy a pleasant, friendly atmosphere, then I recommend visiting this pub.

By gosh this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and seen. I would not give it a star. The photo's on the internet site of the Hotel has been enormously re-touched. This hotel is disgusting. If you have any sense of cleanliness or sense you would not stay here. I made a very bad mistake - You have been warned.

Apsolutely love the Sunday night, the dj is brilliant. Thank you , it’s such a great atmosphere there whenever you go. Thank you so much.

Very friendly staff. Local pub couple of customers who were rude to passers-by during the day. But were ejected by staff fairly quickly. Cheap beer. £3.95 for pint of Kronenberg. Stayed in the Annexe which is a 5 minute walk from main hotel. Very clean. Full Sky in the room. Ensuite was also clean. Could do with a bit of decorating and perhaps a new carpet. Stairs to the room were a bit of a problem for my husband who has walking issues. But other than that lovely and quiet. Breakfast is included in the price of the room £80 for the night. Good choice for breakfast cereal and a full English pr you can pick and choose. Lots of staff helping out at breakfast. We had a lovely day in Southend and slept well. Car parking a bit expensive cost £17 for the day and 2 hours next morning

Sat a while outside this friendly seafront bar. Fantastic mature professional bar staff. Kept track of all customers arriving to order at bar, and served each in the correct order, acknowledging each on arrival assuring service when their turn. Good quality beer and EXCELLENT service. Ideal place to sit outside, sip beer and watch the world go by.

I was very very happy with my stay, the Maltese landlord is very intriguing and knowledgeable, the locals are friendly, and the beer is so cheap I’m from BuckinghamShire and it’s 5 pound a pint matter what beer! The bed was so comfortable, I watch Florida bed on Channel 4 and there wasn’t a hair to be found so well done to the cleaners, I can’t comment on the breakfast as I am never sober enough to make breakfast. But I would definitely stay here again 100%

My wife and I were on the hunt for some fish and chips whilst visiting Southend on sea. We looked at several places but were tempted into the Hope Hotel having seen the fish and chips being served to outside tables. Our waitress was fabulous- efficient, friendly and absolutely on it. All in all a most pleasurable experience- thank you.

The hope hotel is a great and friendly place. Always enjoy going there the staff are fantastic!!! My children just love the hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. The gourmet burgers are also a winner!!!

We visited The Hope to have a dinner in one of the hottest days in 2016- group of 4. Was very busy outside in the beer garden, but tidy and quiet inside-bright as well. We ordered 3 plates of fish and chips- first impression, not so good. We got only one pot of sauce. No slice of lemon, an average portion of the fish and green peas from the tin that probably was heated in the microwave!! Outrageous! However the staff was nice and polite, and we were really positively surprised with the very good standard of toilets.

Great lunch time sandwiches also basic lunch menu is reallly good service was very good and also great value 4 money Children friendly plus just opposite beach

ordered the cream tea for two and were served mouldy cream (green in colour) and then charged £12.75 astounding !!!!

Ate here as all the fish and chip shops seemed busy . The restaurant was basic in appearance but beautifully clean The staff were friendly and dealt very well with our dietary requirements I had a deliciously fresh piece of fish and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal as did my husband When I arrived home I noticed that we had been charged for an extra pint of woodpecker that we had not actually had................we had a half pint each I believe this to be a genuine error and if I lived nearer I would return to have this rectified

Viernes 15 de julio llegó a para una estancia de una noche antes de la boda en el 16 el personal era muy acogedor y nada era demasiado problema. Nuestra habitación estaba en el edificio anexo del hotel principal situado directamente frente al mar La habitación era fabuloso y estaba incluido un cuarto de ducha y wc, TV con Sky y acceso a internet, menaje para preparar té y café y una nevera pequeña, lo cual fue una ventaja. La habitación era excepcional, la limpiaban cada día. El personal era muy amable y servicial, suministrando ropa limpia todos los días así que nos reservamos una noche extra. El domingo, el 17 de la novia y el novio tenía un poco atrasado el desayuno de la boda para la familia cerca y amigos de nuevo, el personal era excelente y George era el propietario a mano para asegurarse de que todo transcurriera sin problemas recomiendo este hotel a cualquier persona joven, viejo incluso hay instalaciones para personas de movilidad reducida desayuno cada día era genial (Inglés) estamos visitando de nuevo en septiembre de este año gracias a todos mucho por hacer nuestra estancia tan agradable.

had a carers Day out in Southend and had lunch in the Hope. There were 14 of us in our party and all of us agreed that the food and the service we received was first class. Thanks to Nita and her team for serving us so well and hopefully we will be returning on our next outing. Well done.

Stopped for breakfast here & was very impressed £4.95 & was ample portion size , cooked to perfection , I assume on a griddle as there was no grease on the plate, the sausage was amazing , not like the cheap ones I often see used, the service was great , real friendly staff very attentive , my waitress was Nita she was a real gem , I would definitely recommend this hotel for food & will eat here again next time I visit

Had a great weekend at the hope, a very warm welcome on arriving, room was great size and comfty, only down side no shower curtain other than that fantastic. All staff are amazing, breakfast was great 10/10 for that. Looking forward in returning in June see you then guys xx lisa

my partner and i stayed at one of the rooms round the corner to the hope pub, owned by them. Lovely room, pub was brilliant, played loads of old music....really enjoyable night in the pub and a comfortable sleep in the room

From the outside this homely looking place looks alright. We entered and we were served by a lovely gentleman who made us feel warm and at home on this cold November Sunday! Two lovely teas and full English breakfasts later we left with our Hearts and our bellies full! Thank you kind sir! Olivia and Tim xxx

Not only waited ages for our food but when it did arrive half our order was missing, waited once again but for the second time we still had to ask where was our food , third time lucky it came & as a family we all tucked in . Food was tasteless & hardly anything of it for the high cost. Wont go there again !

We came in here after a day at adventure island as we didn't fancy fish and chips. We were greeted enthusiastically and seated immediately. The decor is very tired and the restaurant seemed more cafe and lacked any atmosphere. There was a fair choice on the menu and we were served quickly. Our meals all arrived quickly and were hot. We all left empty plates but we weren't raving about our meals.

Visited Sat and Sub afternoon. Sun trap Sat. Music great both days. Interesting people. All there to have fun fun fun. Bar staff efficient and friendly.

Best pub on Southend sea front. Always a warm welcome and plenty of smiles. Management and staff have it spot on. A leading example of how a sea front pub should be. Please please keep it up

A great lunch, value for for money in a tough market. Service was good, attentive and apologetic when they thought there were breaks in the service. Communication and interaction from the service team to the client is key and they got this just right. Cod and Chips were great, Club Sandwich was good value and he Burger was equally as good. In a tough market I hope this eatery grows from strength to strength. Well done.

We had already booked to stay at a b&b around the corner which was £10 cheaper but decided not to stay there as it was uncomfortable, dirty and the Owner wasn't very nice either. So, we decided to have a look along the seafront for some where else to stay and came across the Hope. Asked for a double room which could easily be classed as a king, bed was huge and very comfy! sea views and very clean, including the shared shower/toilet facilities. Some rooms i believe are en suite.£50 for a double sea view room and breakfast for two worth the extra tenner! X

I was gonna take my mum to Wings in York Rd but we decided on the Hope Hotel instead as it was a nice day. We were offered the special that was liver, bacon, peas & mash, we went for the fish£chips. The people on the next table has the liver&bacon, it looked and smelled fantastic they said it was lovely too. Our meal came out the cod was cooked to perfection and was big juicy flakes and tasted so nice. I don't normally eat batter but this I couldn't resist. Chips were good and salad was fresh. We are going back this Sunday for a steak. You can't go wrong here, give it a go.

On a recent day trip to Southend we arrived around lunchtime and were starving . We saw the Hope Hotel on the sea front so thought we would give the restaurant a try as they did sandwiches. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who promptly took our order.The food arrived in quick time and we were surprised by the size and quality of the portions. My wife and I had our usual BLT .These came with fresh brown bread,nicely cooked bacon, a lot of filling and nice chips with it.The children's meals were as good. There were a lot of other day trippers having cooked lunches and all seemed to be very satisfied. The staff were very attentive and seemed to be keen to serve everyone. Our sandwiches were only £4 portion which was excellent value. This place was a great find and if we go back to Southend we would definitely go there again.
