We had a lovely experience at The Grove! The staff were incredibly thoughtful and friendly, making us feel very welcome. Nicole was especially warm and made our visit feel extra special. Holly was truly impressive with her attention to detail and excellent service. The food was delicious, and I must extend my thanks to the chefs for preparing such a wonderful meal. Highly recommend! See you soon, we will be back xx

Just returned from a very nice Sunday lunch at The Grove. It was the first day of the Sunday roast menu. The pork belly was amazing. Couldn't fault it. The team there are extremely attentive. The service was excellent. Lovely views across the estuary make this a great place to go as a couple or with a large group. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. 👌 Will definitely be returning soon.

Have popped in a couple of times recently and had a great experience on both occasions. Most recently I tried the Jamaican Jerk Chicken which was AMAZING. Followed by a very nice cocktail 👌 My partner tried the tacos which were equally as tasty! The new team at The Grove are doing a splendid job. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommended!

Excellent lunch, had the pork belly roast, crackling and apple sauce, which was on the specials menu. Today was the launch of their Sunday roast service. (Different options are served week to week) It was delicious and had a generous portion of vegetables, roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding! Very attentive and polite staff within a relaxed environment. Highly recommend The Grove😊 Thank you

Service was terrible and our table was completely surrounded by a baby shower. Not the fault of the guests at the baby shower, but if you’re going to hire out your venue don’t also take bookings for lunch in the same space. Completely ruined our lunch and staff there didnt want to know about it when we challenged the service charge on the bill.

Had a fantastic lunch at The Grove today. It was the launch of their Sunday roast options for this week’s special of pork belly or chicken. The roast options differ from week to week. My partner and I had the pork belly, served with crackling and apple sauce. Roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and a generous selection of 5 vegetables including roasted carrots and parsnips and green veggies also accompanied the meat on a platter board. Presentation was great and all parts were beautifully cooked and tasted lovely ☺️ Staff at The Grove are always attentive and so friendly, and the restaurant is very comfortable. I would highly recommend a visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Excellent in all aspects of service. Thank you everyone!

The food was delicious, I had the pancakes with berries, beautiful restaurant. We did feel quite rushed but it was a Saturday so understandable, but they forgot to take the deposit off our bill. Then when they came back with it, the bill was even more expensive as they’d added extra items to it like chops and garlic bread (we were there for breakfast!). Otherwise a lovely experience with friendly staff. Just a bit of a stressful end as we were all moved out of our seats and were disputing the bill in the cramped front bit of the restaurant.

Firstly I want to say that I picked the Grove as the venue for my birthday lunch taking friends who had never been because I had been several times before and had a great time and wanted to spend my special day there. Absolutely no complaints about the food - it was perfect as before. The issue was with our waitress who turned a highly anticipated outing into a real disappointment. So it was a very hot day and when we arrived all the outside tables with shade were already taken and inside was even hotter - we had booked an outside table. We sat at the table assigned to us in the glaring sun and when the waitress came over requested that once someone left if we could be moved onto one of the shaded tables. This was met with a flat no - while watching the sweat run down our faces. Apparently all the tables had later bookings by people who had specifically asked for tables in the shade as they had children or dogs. We should have left at this point but foolishly thought this really couldn't be the case and the issue would be rectified. She did find us a table in the doorway but as we got up to move watched as another waitress sat other diners there. So we were left cooking in the sun and then sat as no-one took the tables that were vacated in the shade, no dogs or children materialised. All this after the waitress had acknowledged that it was my birthday too! We ate our food as quickly as we could and left - we paid the tip as we hoped this would go to the chefs who obviously work really hard and do a great job. We haven't had that great a summer this year but if you do have tables in the sun it might be an idea to offer portable umbrellas so if people do want shade they can have it and also tell your staff not to lie about diners that don't actually exist and haven't booked with a long list of requirements. There is too much choice for restaurants in Leigh and unfortunately this has tarnished our opinion of the Grove.

Lunched at The Grove with a friend we hadn't booked. Positive: I ordered the taco of the day which was beef and it was very tasty, however, no side salad which was disappointing. The food and drinks orders were taken fairly quickly. Not so positive: After we had finished our mains no one offered us desert, coffee or any more drinks and it was extremely hard to catch any waiters eye's. Bill had 12.5% service charge applied in advance. It's an easy fix, though, the location and views are great, the menu is ok, although a bit light on vegetarian options/choices.

The Grove is now so much better than of late, I guess with the recent revamp and new branding. We had the Whitebait and Jerk Chicken. Really nice food and generous portions, we would definitely go back for another visit. This would have been a five star review, but feedback is good for operators to help them up their game. Bad point 1. We had to ask 3 times before we got a jug of water. Bad point 2. The wine per glass cost is very good for a 175ml glass. The only problem was, my wife ordered a 175ml glass of wine, but was only given a 125ml measure. She was then charged the 175ml glass price. Simple errors maybe, but the eatery competition in Leigh is very tough and we have plenty of choices.

Great location with stunning views from the terrace / out the back. Only disappointment is the lack of vegan options. The vegan breakfast is really lacking, no one wants a salsa for breakfast and for £11 there just isn’t enough on the plate. The hash browns however are delicious, but more thought needed for the vegan and veggie offerings.

We visited as a group of 4 in April 2024, shortly after the reopening for a Saturday dinner. I contacted the Grove directly with the below to offer as “feedback” - no response so felt it only right to share with other locals on here etc. I can see from recent reviews that there is a mixed bag. Our honest account below. We are contacting you regarding your recent reopening and wanted to provide you some feedback for your consideration. We are a couple local to Leigh and had 2 friends to stay with us this weekend from Cornwall - we decided to call and book a table and the newly reopened Grove. Knowing it has a good reputation and a nice location we were comfortable with this choice. Booking on the phone was easy and we got the time we wanted for dinner. Our friends had perused the website prior to our arrival and were excited by the menu - only to find out on arrival that is the old menu - slight disappointment, however, once they had seen the new menu they were happy with the options. The food we did order was all delicious and thoroughly enjoyed so compliments to the chef and kitchen team please. However, please see below our comments/feedback on the service and please understand that we feel all feedback is useful, especially for newly reopened restaurants. Also, not sure if you have seen the similar reviews on open table etc, which seem to align with a theme - customer service. On arrival we were greeted well and shown to our table, we were given a choice of table which was nice and we felt welcomed. See below feedback points: 1. We were given the menus and weren’t told that there were any unavailable options so started to make our choices ready to give our orders. We then waited approx 10 mins to order drinks and receive the tap water we had asked for - there were only 3 other tables occupied. 2. Once our drinks arrived we asked if there was something to level out our wobbly table - we were asked if we wanted to move table - which we did (FYI the wobbly table is the middle 4 person in the conservatory area) 3. We were asked for our food orders, we then asked what the Taco of the day was etc and the fish of the day - fish of the day was a fish pie which surprised us as that’s not fish of the day, I asked if I could have a vegetarian taco to be told no that’s not an option, my husband asked to order the scotch egg, once the orders were taken and given to the kitchen we were then told the scotch egg was sold out and I was offered a vegetarian taco and the chef confirmed I could have a halloumi taco - perfect. 4. On finishing our wonderful starters the staff were hovering to take the plates of the 3 people who had finished before I had finished mine, the 3 plates were collected while I was still eating and then my plate taken while I was chewing my last mouthful. 5. The food arrived and on the menu it explained tacos come with a dressed salad - so my friend and I ordered garlic and Parmesan chips to share too. Tacos were lovely and looked nice, no dressed salad though which we presumed was a side salad and on asking were told it was in the tacos - this was ambiguous. Our chips didn’t arrive so we checked, they weren’t put through on the order so were made some fresh for us, when we were given these they only had Parmesan and no garlic, so we sent them back for rectification - we were not charged for these. 6. Following finishing our main meals we were then left to our own devices - no offer of desserts or coffee, no asking if we wanted any other drinks etc, and our bill had been printed out 10 minutes before we asked for it and we then felt rushed out the door (this was before 10pm). We appreciated that you have recently reopened and that you had new staff, but we felt disappointed especially as the food was so lovely, but the service let the experience down and subsequently left us feeling a little jaded as we had special friends with us for this meal.

We booked the Grove for a large group (around 15) for a birthday celebration. They were extremely accommodating (putting up balloons we had ordered, taking the cake etc) in the run up to the booking. On the day - both the food and service was really impressive. I appreciate it can be hard to get it right with such a big group on a busy weekend, but we were served promptly, without any mix ups and the lady who served us was so helpful and organised that a lot of our guest commented on how good she had been. We came for brunch on Saturday, most of the experience was pleasant, food was alright, the sourdough (not sure it was sourdough) was abit burnt but edible. Huge downfall was one male member of staff who was absolutely miserable. He was huffing & sighing, his face said that he literally wanted to be anywhere but there. All of our party commented on it as it makes for uncomfortable dining when your server is so miserable. The lady with longish curly hair was lovely (not sure of her name, sorry!), so were the other staff members but not in a rush to come back

Was really excited to visit after the renovation yesterday evening but had such an awful experience we unfortunately won't be returning. Waiting for our food for an hour and a half (they forgot to put our food through, and then didn't prioritise it when they realised, other tables were still served before us). After we finally got our food, we weren't offered any more drinks, coffees, dessert. Just completely abandoned and it was difficult even getting attention to pay the bill. If they were overrun I could understand a bit more but the restaurant was less than half full. Really disappointing experience. That said, when we eventually got our food, it was lovely. Just tainted by an otherwise awful experience.

Straight honest review! We booked for 7.30pm on the 10th may , 2 mums taking there daughters out for dinner, our order for drinks took over 20 minutes to be taken , our food was then taken at 8pm , we then sat waiting for our food until 9.32 , the waiter admitted that he had forgotten to put the order through , the service was absolutely disgusting , never experienced such a shambles, we should have just walked out , the waiter was apologetic, but we don't get together as a family very often and this completely ruined our get together , we should have just refused to pay and left , my husband came to the restuarant to collect us , and spoke to the waiter / so called manager , who had knocked off the drinks from the final bill , but still unacceptable, the manager was asked if he felt that the service and quality of and discount was appropriate for the abysmal service to which he replied he wasn't the proper manager and that all could do, when asked to get the real manager he advised they wasn't there. We shall never boom this restuarant again , disgusting service. What a let down .

Keen to visit The Grove after the new refurb but won’t be bothering again. What a shame they’ve gone to all this effort only to have awful customer service. They spent most of the time we were there restocking the fridges with glass bottles which made a right racket. Staff did the bare minimum taking our order (no interaction or smile) and slammed our food on the table when it arrived. We eat out a lot in Leigh and all the other restaurants do the customer service bit so well. The Grove might need to go and see how other restaurants are doing it and retrain their staff.

The new decor looks nice. The outside deck looks lovely for when the weather is good. The food was tasty enough. The staff pleasant enough, but it was getting very tiresome after asking the third person for the bill before they brought it. The staff did look a bit scruffy. Some had a T shirt with the Grove logo on it, which was fine, but where some of the girls were cold they were wearing their own cardigan or sweat top over the Tshirt, which did not look good. Need to get uniform sweat tops too. The staff did seem a bit tired and worn out and one was eating out of a tupperware container in the restaurant. Maybe they needed a meal break?

Awful experience, we were looking forward to visiting the grove since it had been refurbished but it was a really disappointing experience. From start to finish it was a complete disaster, took about 15/20 mins for someone to ask us for drinks, not the end of the world, after we ordered we had 3 different people then ask if we’d ordered drinks, we finally got them and then ordered food, again 3 more people asked if we’d ordered food, they seemed to lack any form of system when ordering food or drinks. We waited over an hour for the food, in the meantime we ordered more drinks, a latte and peppermint tea, a green tea arrived which they changed and a cold latte, which I just drunk as I was losing the will to live. We noticed there was only 2/3 people in the kitchen and the restaurant was only a quarter full so figured things were just running a bit slow. We finally asked about the food, a young girl, whom was very polite and apologetic about it said the order had been lost and the kitchen didn’t have the order, I’m not really sure how this happens but we didn’t really fancy waiting another half an hour to an hour so we just left, she said we didn’t need to pay for the drinks which was appreciated but we left hungry and disappointed and we won’t be back which is shame as we used to love coming here.

Our experience was very poor - a catalogue of errors and bad customer service - the kitchen closes in between breakfast and lunch service - which is fine if they told you when booking. Every drinks order had an error and we had to ask every time for drinks and extras. The lady manager had a very unfortunate communication style which obviously then feeds down to her staff (most were miserable and this came across). The food was mediocre, especially for the price. The decking on a sunny day is fabulous spot and this place could be so much better - come on owner, please look at the experience you are giving from a customer perspective as the little things make a big difference ❤️

We decided to go to the Grove again as it is under new management. Sadly it was not a good experience. Clearly the location is great but the food lets it down. The service was slow and we were asked if we wanted our starter with our main meal!!! The Scotch Egg was unavailable thus settled for a prawn cocktail that was just about OK. However the' Seafood Salad Special' was tasteless as no dressing on the salad, the avocado was raw and small portion of seafood appeared to be recently defrosted. A nearby table were complaining that they had waited two hours for their meal. We didn't bother with dessert and left via the main entrance that goes past the kitchen area. Quite shocked at how messy and chaotic the kitchen was with piles of dirty plates and dirty pots and pans everywhere.

Popped in for a drink with our dog at lunchtime and ended up ordering lunch because we loved the choices in the menu. Sat on the deck area with beautiful views over the estuary. Background music playing, excellent friendly service, delicious meal. There was a lovely buzz and chilled atmosphere. Water bowl for our dog. We will definitely be back and have recommended to friends already

Visited today with my family and had a fantastic lunch. The scotch egg was amazing and the wild mushroom dish was excellent too. From the mains, the highlights were the wild boar and fennel pappardelle and the fish and chips. Lovely service and looking forward to having a meal out on the terrace in the summer.

Popped in for breakfast on way to London. Presentation was good as was the food. Coffee high quality…… building has been there a while and is looking a bit tired in places. When the prices are high you expect the surroundings to be a little better. Service was also ok but we were the only people there😀

Sometimes you want a simple lunch to bide the time. Yet we stumbled across a little gem with the Grove. Whilst the menu was simple, we was able to devour some homemade dips and a delightful crab chowder which was Boston-esq. However the venison scotch egg was noticeably pungently gamey and the fig with goats cheese salad was both sweet and sour in a good way. Washed down with a selection of awesome wines, and a view over the estuary, it was very easy to relax with some tasty food and relaxed service and dining experience. They even looked after our two young daughters perfectly.

Came here Saturday for lunch with two friends. The venue is so nice on a warm sunny day. They seem to have changed the decking area as in done it up nicer out the back with glass on the side so even more nice views. I had the buttermilk chicken burger which was delicious as were the chips. Only negative would be the amount of times the waitress came over to take first our drinks orders and then food and then when we wanted to pay nobody around to ask apart from a young boy who said "okay in a minute" and then still didnt bring the bill.

We decided to give this restaurant a go knowing it had changed hands from original owners. We were seated in an almost empty restaurant. Very pushy waitress who didn’t give us time to look at the menu. Came back a second time when our third person arrived. Still asked for more time. Ordered our drinks. Ordered our food. Vegetarian burgers arrived with no avocado as stated on menu or aioli accompanying either of the burgers. Requested, and only one aioli arrived despite two burgers ordered. Avocado then arrived as per menu. As a secret shopper, I noticed several things. Hair was touched by waitress many times as was a hand wipe across and under her nose whilst at the till. Lime was picked up by fingers and placed in glass. Then served. Same waitress greeted and petted a dog at the door and one assumes her friend. No attempt to wash hands. Chips were being dipped and eaten at the servery by waiting staff !!! Whilst two of our meals were delicious, there was no attention to service at our table. No offer of dessert despite us sitting there for 30 minutes. No offer of tea or coffee ! We requested our bill. Paid and left . On checking our bill we had been charged for the Aioli. Without a doubt this restaurant has dropped to a 1 star rating. It’s staff would benefit from a reminder of hygiene and customer service. We will not be returning.

What a smashing pub. We ended up here only because the Wetherspoons in town had closed their kitchen due to a problem and we needed to eat. The pub was an unexpected great find. The staff were friendly, the food was faultlessly good, ( best and cheapest pub food for ages! ) Thoughly enjoyed the steak pie meals. Busy as it was kareoke night, fortunately some of the singing didn't put us off our food. Seriously, it was a fun and an enjoyable evening. Well done The Guildford.
