Stopped here for the first time today having gone past many times. Only stayed for a drink but the garden was a pleasant surprise and a great space to take a break. Pub looked decent and I’ll definitely stop to eat another day. They don’t open till 11.30 which could be a little earlier on a summer weekend.

Easy parking, although a fair few steps down to the pub from there, service was good and the food very nice with large portions! A really nice pub on the boundary of the city, which is convenient for meeting friends if you live in the surrounding towns as you can avoid the hell-hole of Bath!! Quite quiet when we went on a Thursday night but I can imagine it getting busy.

Came here many years ago,,,,what a transformation.! Had the warmest of welcomes and the fish and chips (one fried one grilled) were excellent. Never had a whole lemon as garnish ...top and bottom sliced off.....before! A bit pricey but it didnt affect our enjoyment of the meal or the establishement.

Our dinner here was absolutely amazing!! 🤩 When we got there at seven, the pub was nearly empty, meaning that it was so calm and comfortable. The decor was very cute with beams and fairy lights, and there was loads of space to sit💫 The lady who served us was super lovely and helpful, and the food was incredible!! The best food I've ever had! Me and my mum shared the crispy squid for starter which was delicious, and I had the battered haddock and chips, while my mum had the chickpea tagine. They were both so yummy and I will dream about those chips 🌟😍 I would recommend to a friend!

Very nice food. Super. But super expensive. Drinks and food both overpriced in my opinion. But to top it all, a service charge added of £5.30 (I think) no option to have it removed or any mention of it, when given the bill, so £57 for 2 Sunday lunches and 2 drinks. Maybe ok for a special occasion but we were on a walk. Not the best way to encourage customers to return.

Arrived at the pub via the Two Tunnels path, which gives access to the rear of the pub, with steep stone steps down to the pub from the path. My wife is in a wheelchair, so I went down down to the bar alone to enquire about food, but was told that the kitchen was closed. "I throw myself on your mercy" I told the waitress, and explained that my wife was in a wheelchair, and really needed SOMETHING to eat. She promptly provided a delicious bowl of chips and pots of tea, AND took the trouble to bring the food all the way up the stairs to where my wife was waiting. AND then her colleague brought a chair for me to sit on. All the while being incredibly helpful and sypmathetic to my wife's condition. Service above and beyond... Just so overwhelmed by the service and incredible kindness

Sandra and Richard have recently taken over here and are doing a phenomenal job. I hosted my Mum's 75th birthday party in the conservatory annexe part of the pub last weekend. The food was exceptional and very generous. The service was excellent - so friendly and effortlessly glided around the 35 people we had. The team has even decorated for us. The venue was so pretty and allowed for us to sprawl outside and into the bar. We were looking for casual and free flowing, and that's exactly what we got. I have not stopped receiving compliments for the party, but its success really is due to the H&A. We witnessed other food going out the kitchen and it looked equally as generous and delicious. I highly recommend this gorgeous pub. We will definitely be back. Thank you again for hosting us!

We called in for drinks on our way back to Frome from Bristol, not realising that this was their first day under new ownership. We were warmly welcomed, and the service was fast and friendly. We were asked if we would like to try some free nibbles and were given a bowl of Parmesan fries (very tasty), a plate of canapés (2 each of 3 different ones, all delicious) and a little portion of a tagine dish (which we didn’t try as I’m allergic to both chilli & coriander). What an unexpected treat - thank you! So many pubs seem to serve “pop and ping” food but not here. It was real food cooked by a real chef. We intend to return for a meal before too long.

We visited the Hope and Anchor public house in Midford on a Saturday early afternoon in April. We were visiting the area for an evening engagement and had been viewing some of the local scenery. The Hope and Anchor looked both inviting and quite quirky being situated in the shadow of the disused railway viaduct. We drove here and the public house has free car park for patrons situated at viaduct level and partly on the footprint of the former Midford railway station. Access to the bar area from the car park is via a long staircase into the garden. The bar area is surprisingly large and very welcoming. We ordered two coffees and sat in a window seat looking out onto the road with the viaduct looming over it. The staff here were friendly and the overall experience was very enjoyable. We visit the area periodically to see relatives so we would be interested in making a return visit and trying an evening meal here.

Having read so many great reviews & seen a sample menu I thought this would be an ideal place for my family to go to. The guy at the bar was a lovely man except he was serving drinks, taking food orders, clearing the tables and serving food - all by himself. He had no other waiting staff. It was literally a one man show outside of the kitchen. Needless to say we had a long wait to be served. One group didn't stay long and I am not surprised. The pub is only a small place so it doesn't accommodate many diners so it was busy. The food offerings we had were in my opinion not what I expected. The salmon dish was apparently excellent, the burger was good except the chips looked more like a cross between chips & roast potatoes - very odd i might add! Fish & chips was average & beef bourguignon sub-standard. My own dish was not even very hot. Overall I was not impressed. It is a huge shame as I was so looking forward to having a meal here. I wonder if it was just a bad day>? will i return?> now that I am not sure. Maybe you will have the experiences that other diners/reviewers have had so perhaps you should give it the benefit of the doubt.
