We had Sunday lunch here on September 22. The onion squash soup was superb, great depth of flavour, beautiful smooth creamy consistency, incredibly crispy croutons. The main course was outstanding for the care and sheer craftsmanship of every element. The vegetables in particular were so perfectly prepared and delicious, it put me to shame - I’ve never had such delicious kale, such a splendid roast carrot, such a delicious cauliflower cheese, and as for the roast potatoes - you can see in the photograph a dish of little brown bricks. These were the roasties; they had first been thinly sliced and cooked to unctuous softness but without going to mush, then carved into bricks and roasted to splendid crispness - when you bit into them the crispness gives way to the soft interior - beautiful flavour. Gravy also excellent - I think we got through three of those little jugs. Beef superb, one large slab of perfect rare beef. The only downside was that we were too full to eat any pudding! Will definitely go back again and again.

We managed to get counter seats on a random Sunday afternoon for what was undoubtedly the best Sunday roast I've ever had. The food was excellent and I'm sure it will become a culinary mainstay in Bath.

Went for Sunday roast and I can confidently say that it’s one of the best roast beef’s I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a few. Would travel over from London just for this meal. The service is also faultless. We sat outside in the garden which was a nice touch.

When food looks this good you can't fail to enjoy

We are great fans of the Beckford Bottle Shop, so it was a leap to go to the Beckford Canteen instead on our recent visit to Bath. What a great experience - the ajo blanco is truly the most exquisite dish I have eaten in 2024!

Had a delicious lunch here to celebrate husbands birthday . I hadn’t mentioned this when booking but it was picked up by staff .. and to our surprise William brought out a lovely mini cake complete with candle .. what a treat 🎈 Lovely staff .. lovely atmosphere and good food .. what more can you ask ! A wonderful evening was spent here when visiting Bath, over the course of our visit we went to a number of restaurants and this is by far the best. Food was exceptional, great ingredients and flavour combinations. Service was warm, attentive and knowledgeable from the wait team and management. Will definitely be back if ever in Bath again!

We had yet another great dinner in the Beckford Canteen. There was definitely a Friday night buzz happening in the restaurant and the service was brilliant. We had a great table near the bar (It's a small place but they have made it so comfortable) which gave me a great view 'behind the scenes' which was great to see them working as a team. The menu is seasonal with plenty of options for me as a meat eater and my Pescatarian guest. All of the food looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The accompanying 2 bottles of own brand Rosé from their nearby Beckford Bottle Shop were perfect accompannemnt, and half the price of a Whispering Angel in some other Bath restaurants. We celebrated a special evening at the Canteen and now place it firmly on our list of Favourite Bath eats.

First time there and we will definitely come back. The food was amazing! They had a very nice greek white wine (Apla) that we enjoyed with our lunch. Of course we had to try the desserts and we enjoyed them too. The manager was very friendly and treated us to liquer shot.

What an amazing eating experience. The chefs and waitering staff do a faultless job here. Where do I start. Firstly the roast, I went for a pork belly roast. This was cooked perfectly, the pork was nice and tender and the crackling was nice and crunchy. Seasoned well. The veg which consisted of cabbage and carrots were delicious. Yorkshire pudding and cauli cheese was tasty. Special mention of the week goes to the confit roast potatoes which were plentiful, crispy and very tasty. Also the gravy which made everything taste so much better was nice and thick. Definitely recommend this place.

The best Sunday Roast I’ve probably ever had. Staff and service were also great. Will definitely be going back as soon as I can.

The service was lovely: the waitress helped to explain the menu, recommended some dishes, and even provided me with the wifi password to help with my browsing. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, and I never felt rushed. The food was worth the wait, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. I ordered the trout and the cod - both were light and fresh. The trout had a perfect combination of flavours. Although the cod was on the saltier side, the slightly sweet and savoury carrot sauce helped to balance it out. Thank you for the wonderful lunch!

It’s a lovely venue, but for an Easter Sunday booking the vegetarian option had no gravy. Net result a very dry and expensive roast. Was only told when the food was served. Have had better experience before, but this was meant to be a special lunch so a bit disappointed.

Beckford Canteen was visually amazing with outstanding customer service. We drank so much water thanks to the number of times our water jug was refilled. We ordered the veal, pasta, pork belly and potatoes on the side. Mine was the pork belly which had some good crispy skin but was let down by the blandness of the meat and conjealed fat layer. I did also try the pasta which I thought was fabulous. The smooth pumpkin sauce had a hint of bitterness. If dark was a flavour it would be that. Veal was fine. The potatoes were another highlight, they were layered confit slices that were then fried. Overall, we had a good time but were still hungry afterwards.

Even though I don't usually dine alone, this place made it a breeze! They have a counter with stools, perfect for solo diners like me. The waitress, though I didn't catch her name, eat at 2pm today, was fantastic. So friendly and attentive, she really put me at ease. I even asked for her recommendations, and everything she suggested was absolutely delicious. I felt so comfortable, I'll definitely be bringing my family next time for the great food and welcoming atmosphere!

A true dining experience from the moment we walked in. The staff and atmosphere were friendly and attentive. They were very knowledgeable about the menus and explained everything clearly. Always smiling! The food was extraordinary; the best pork we have ever tasted. Which will have the unfortunate effect of setting the bar impossibly high that we may never be able to eat pork anywhere else. As such we will be back for more. Our post dinner tea was delightful and served in some beautiful silverware. A wonderful experience to have with my mother. Thank you!

A great new restaurant for Bath. A limited menu, but everything was full of flavour and well presented. The waiting staff were excellent, attentive without being intrusive, and well informed about the details of the menu. Excellent value for the quality of the cooking.

I was gifted a voucher as I had previously been to the bottle shop and had a nice experience, so came for a date/birthday day with my boyfriend and it was absolutely phenomenal. We weren’t sure what to expect, but honestly there was not one complaint/issue/thing to be improved! The food was tasty, beautifully presented and came out quickly, the service was wonderful and we felt so looked after. A special thank you to Ash - you were so lovely and genuinely really great throughout the whole service, totally rounded the whole experience off and made us welcome (the wine was so so good, you were completely right!!). Already recommended to people and 100% we will be coming back. Thank you!!

It is rare to have a dining experience where you couldn't fault a single aspect of the experience. On a weekend break to Bath we picked Beckford Canteen based on its strong Google reviews and luckily got a 7pm slot on the Saturday having booked it in the morning. And boy was I glad that we'd got a table. Lovely open room with not too many covers meaning you get great service from the lovely waiting team. Fantastic appetisers and main course paired with a lovely cocktail and glass of red wine. Would come back in a heartbeat!

Wow wow wow. Best Sunday lunch I think I’ve ever had. Panisse with trout row was so moreish. Then roast beef with all the trimmings. Each element was perfect. Ans dessert also delicious. Staff are warm and good at what they do. We loved it.

The food was superb and the friendly service was just right, little touches like water being topped up and the wine and the friendly and quick service and wanting to talk through the menu which was a delight. We had beetroot for starters which was so pretty and I had the ravioli we both went for the potatoes and veg to share washed down with a bottle of rose and followed this with petit fours and coffees. Divine and very enjoyable. Will be back.

Superb late Sunday lunch after a lovely mooch around Bath. Great service from Eva. Within our group we had the beef, pork and chicken. All were excellent and the roast potatoes were to die for. The rhubarb pud was also very tasty. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and we felt it was worth it for sure.

Exceptional food and service. Took our 1 year old here for dinner on Valentine's day. Unorthodox, sure. But they couldn't have been more accomodating and even borrowed a high-chair from a restaurant next door. Of course, they'll still be cleaning food off the walls, but that's standard. Only joking - she was as good as gold.

Good god. Life-changing food. I had the gurnard with the rhubarb ponzu special – lip smacking umami joy – the harissa buttered plaice and greens (smoky heat, without overwhelming the delicate fish) followed by the chocolate artichoke and malt dessert. I think I spent 20 minutes savouring that dessert. Salt and crunch and cream and depth. Wow. This chef knows flavour balance. Incredible food, intimate setting, perfect dining experience.

The Beckford group never disappoint, but the Canteen surpassed expectations. Phenomenal food, excellent menu suggestions and friendly, unpretentious service. Can’t wait to go back.

What a place! Its so rare that a place hits ever nail on the head. Service was outstanding. We were celebrating and the staff were generous with time and gifts from the kitchen. The menu was explained well staff had good knowledge of the wine. Now the food, every single course was outstanding. The rarebit is frankly genius and deserved a whole review of its own. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and the fish was melt in the mouth Genuinely couldn’t fault a single thing and would love to dine here again!

This is most definitely the best restaurant in Bath by a mile. Everything about this place is just right. The food, the menu, the staff, the atmosphere, the interior. I have been here a number of times and it just never fails to impress. Keep up the great work.

Arrived early for lunch today so a warm welcome from front of house was a good start. We ordered the bread/butter, panisse + garlic, beetroot + goats cheese, ham hock terrine & plaice w herb butter. The b&b arrived but then so did the other 4 plates. We sent back the plaice only to see it returned apologetically by front of house explaining it was the last one left. And to be fair he did say it would be gratis. I don't know if it was an incompetent server, lack of training or pressure from the top to turn tables but if i spend £100 quid on lunch for two means i want at least an hour or more's worth of entertainment, in a convivial atmosphere, at a leisurely pace & good food. The Landrace restaurant serves similar fare, same pricing & their pacing is immaculate. It's such a shame because the petit fours & apple pudding were marvellous ..... but guess what my coffee arrived before the pudding wine ! We were done & dusted in barely 60 minutes.... we'll return because all of the food was good & made ingredients i often find pedestrian delicious ... but with fingers crossed that the show won't be so short.

We went pre Christmas for dinner and I have been previously for lunch and each time have been very impressed with the standard of cooking and service. My plaice was superb and clearly cooked by someone who knows what they are doing. All five of us enjoyed our food and will be going back.

This and Landrace are my favourite Bath restaurants at the moment. The skill with which a dish of predominantly raw beetroot becomes an exquisite culinary delight with the addition of a few meagre ingredients says everything. The atmosphere and service are exceptional. The service is in the hands of youthful but well trained waiters and waitresses who provide excellent service. Until December this was the food highlight of my year but it remains my best experience in Bath.

Nice food but overpriced doesn’t justify the cost

We had a wonderful meal here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was all beautifully plated and absolutely delicious and the service was efficient and friendly, without being over attentive. The restaurant is intimate and had a real buzz about it. I couldn’t rate it more highly. After ordering two glasses of sparkling wine to celebrate we were told that these would be on the house due to the occasion, and this was the cherry on top of a fabulous evening!

An imaginative menu that's really well executed.

I have been coming here all year as often as I can. Not always possible because this restaurants is justifiably booked out most of the time - and I'm pleased for them. The hard work from all the team shows: the food is great, the atmosphere wonderful: the front and back of house team charming, efficient and friendly. The Sunday experience is different to the rest of the week: the most gorgeous roasts ever. This makes sense as it's a wonderful restaurant the rest of the week. Look up the glowing reviews in the online newspapers to read about the food. If you don't live in Bath, it's worth making a trip. And if you do live in Bath, you would be a fool not try this.

Convivial atmosphere , food delicious from open plan kitchen (Saturday- venison / plaice) . Convenient for Central Bath and going on to the rugby afterwards. Very understanding about being a wee bit late due to traffic.

Tempted to visit by the good reviews. We booked Sunday lunch. Arrival was promising, on a cold day the restaurant was warm, cleverly the entrance door planned well away from the tables. The restaurant was full and buzzy. Small menu, but clearly explained by charming smiling waitress. Service quick and smooth. Delicious tender beef, absolutely stunning confit potatoes, you have to try them! Unusual but tasty desserts. My husband would say he’d like to be able to have his usual ice cream the end his meal. Thoroughly recommend you visit. All the staff were friendly and efficient.

Very lucky to get a table last minute but so happy we found this place. Beautifully relaxed atmosphere, we had some cocktails to start which were fantastic. The staff were very attentive and looked after us really well. The food was faultless, no a single word of criticism. This place epitomises why I love going out to eat.

Eating out these days is a treat, for most people anyway. So it's nice when all the elements of dining out dovetail into a very satisfactory experience. The decor and atmosphere of Beckford Canteen is delightful - racing green and white. The clientele is adult and sophisticated (or was the night I went). Serving staff are very professional and slick (and tall!). The Modern British menu is very well designed in that you can either have a selection of small plates or larger mains. We opted for small plates so we could try lots of things. Some reviewers have complained about the size to price ratio, but when you put the first intensely flavourful and textured mouthful of each small dish in your mouth you realize the amount of work and thought that has gone into it, it's hard to begrudge the money. I was with a very conservative eater but he went out of his comfort zone and didn't regret it. He particularly liked the beef tongue crumpet - more of a canape really but totally delicious. I loved the panisse (Southern French chickpea fritter) with a topping of chives and trout roe. Other standout dishes were the smoked eel, charred leek and oozy egg yolk. And the heavenly dessert of chocolate cremeux with malt ice cream and crisy Jerusalem artichoke crisps. Wine is expensive. But like a say, a treat. I came out of Beckford feeling elated. I wish them continued success. It's a much-needed addition to the Bath dining scene.
