The Hope & Anchor in North Lincolnshire

Took my husband for lunch yesterday and we had their Christmas menu (had to pre book) After having Hope n Anchor nibbles Hubby had Duck pate, Pheasant with all the trimmings then Sticky Toffee pudding. Washed down with lime and lemonade. I had Mushroom parfait, Turkey with all the trimmings and then Rice Pudding with rum soaked raisins. I was naughty and had two of their Crinchmas cocktails 👏🏻👏🏻🎅🏻🧑🏻‍🎄 Absolutely delicious all of it, we went home very happy and replete

I went for a Christmas lunch with a group of 10 elderly ladies for which we had paid a deposit, and pre booked our menu choices. The waitress was very welcoming but the service very slow. The starters seemed to meet with everyone’s approval, but when the main meals arrived the situation deteriorated. Meals came all plated up and immediately we realised that the turkey, certainly not carved that morning, was not properly cooked and constituted a health hazard. We asked for the meals to be taken away and after some time were told that we could have beef instead. We declined and said we would move on to the dessert i.e. Christmas pudding. I did feel it was not home made but was proved right when one lady asked to take her pudding home and found she had been given an individual pudding in a plastic pot ( supermarket variety cost £1.00, microwave for 40 seconds)! An adjustment was made to the bill but at no point did the chef appear and apologise. Greatly disappointing, overpriced, and suffice to say we will not be going there in the future.

What a treat for our anniversary!!! The food, drinks and general ambience were all excellent - but for us s special mention should go to all of the staff who went out of their way to ensure we had a special night! Thank you 😊 We have visited already several times and look forward to visiting again in the near future

We stopped on the way home for a drink and sat by the fire which was lovely and was being looked after by Jo. It was lovely to see Kasha and be able to have a lovely chat with her as she is normally busy but always has a smile and time to say hi. Her personality is so bubbly you leave feeling really good. All the staff are welcoming and polite, but Kasha was just the tonic that was needed on Saturday.

Booked Sunday lunch for family celebration party of 10 paid deposit as requested and completed attached menu selections for party and returned within requested timeframe then received email late evening before reservation date @20:23 asking we complete menu selections or contact them . I responded and confirmed it had been sent five days previously and resent menu selections with a confirmation via telephone. To be honest we eat at the restaurant on a regular basis and as always food is perfect and cannot complain however on payment they don’t recognise your deposit payment and you have to remind them the bill is incorrect and deposit was paid seems that manager needs to get a grip of things other restaurants we visit seem to be more well organised and allow menu selections on the day .

Very disappointed with Sunday lunch today. Been several times before and taken friends/ family on our recommendation. Today the service was lacking. Had to ask for a drink and also cutlery after using it on the over priced bread starter. All the meal was overcooked and the meat both pork and beef was tough. Very disappointing. Don’t know what has happened?

Staff extremely friendly and attentive. Room clean a little small. Disappointed with the continental breakfast. Expected more than one plum. One slice of toast one croissant. Granola. Orange juice. Hot drink. No other choices. Plated at you table for your set time of breakfast. Did not expect the carpet to be full of food from the night before. Shabby exterior.

Personally I don’t think it is at Michelin standard compared to other Michelin places I’ve visited. Service very slow for both food and drinks, I can see why they offer ‘Whilst you wait snacks’. The sticky red cabbage was dry, undercooked Parmesan truffle chips, and a piece of string served with my steak. Expensive for what it is. Dated building and the hand dryer in the ladies didn’t work.

We took our friend here for her Birthday on Thursday evening for the Hope and Anchor Steak Night (we’ve been before and loved it) but it’s always a bit nervy to take someone else to try it out!! Shouldn’t have worried she absolutely loved it 😊 We started with the ‘while you wait’ Kabanos with mustard mayonnaise and two lots of the H&A crackling with homemade apple sauce.. My friend had an expresso martini, I had a Strawberry Daiquiri non alcoholic one and my other half who was driving had a lime and lemonade. We all had the superb Flank steak with the house salad and triple cooked chips oh it was yummy. They then brought a little cake out with a candle in it plus a card for my friend (she was surprised) After a little rest my friend and I ordered the bread and butter pudding and himself had pineapple and passion fruit sorbets with coffees all round to finish off the delightful evening. Special Thanks must go to Kieron Jo Demetri Who looked after us very well indeed Plus of course the lovely Benoit he always is sunshine himself. Thank You for a great Birthday evening. Our second visit here as we don’t live in the area but came over as a party of three to celebrate a family member’s birthday. We were seated in the conservatory by our very friendly waitress and had lovely views of the estuary and the Humber Bridge. A good choice on the menu, my starter of brown crab on toast was delicious followed by pork loin which was tasty with good accompaniments. The other two were equally impressed with their food. We finished with the most divine bread and butter pudding (highly recommended) and the birthday boy was also presented with a little tasting portion of cake with a candle. A good selection of wines on offer too.

So found by accident when looking online for somewhere local for a light lunch, upon looking found they have rooms and a decent menu for restaurant so changed plans booked a room and had an evening meal with them. Briefly checked reviews then booked. After booking looked further down the reviews which led to a small concern but this was unfounded. The service was great, the food well presented and cooked to perfection. I had a fillet steak perfectly cooked, wife had the sea bream. As we had booked a stay we also had breakfast the following morning. They have a continental breakfast as standard and you can upgrade to an additional cooked breakfast which is well cooked and extremely tasty. Id say the best cooked english breakfast I've had. as said we booked a nights stay. We booked the larger room which was a good size the room was very clean and tidy as was the bathroom. facilities in the room were fine with complimentary teas and coffee. The service all round was good. All staff took their time to speak to guests and explain all relevant things for rooms and food. The restaurant was packed full on our Thursday visit yet still the service was quick and as I would expect. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a place local to stay or indeed for a good meal out. The owner has also set about to explain how he came to be in the trade, facts about the venue and what their ethos is about with the sourcing and use of the foods they serve which was both interesting to read and admire

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the quality of the food and choice of wines is exceptional. We also stayed the night in one of the very comfortable bedrooms. I highly recommended the Hope and Anchor.

One night stay and dine located about 10 miles from Scunthorpe with Humber views. We chose here as it's dog friendly and there's a good deal on if you dine as well. Our room was upstairs at the back and overlooked the humber and bridge. The pub restaurant was the main attraction. . The menu is A la carte with such a great choice. For starters we chose Loch Fyne treacle cured salmon, with compressed beetroot and relish. A very hearty and delish Smoked haddock chowder with Jospered sweetcorn & poached hens'egg. Mains were Sea bream,samphire, mussels in a lobster emulsion with a side of Jersey Royals, bacon crumb. Now,we are quite particular on where we order steak. There was no hesitation on ordering one here. We went for the Jumbo tiger prawns surf & turf garlic & chilli butter, 8oz grass fed fillet steak, triple cooked chips.And if that wasn't enough,a side of onion rings and a bearnaise sauce. The prawns were so fresh and succulent and the steak just melted in the mouth. It was cooked to perfection and just crying out to be dunked into the bearnaise sauce.The tower of beautifully crispy onion rings were getting jealous. Fear not,their time came and they were no more as well as the chunky chips. Dessert,you say? Are you joking? We were absolutely stuffed and couldn't manage one. We did manage to down a liquor coffee,after on the terrace and watched the sunset. The staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble. The incredible chefs certainly know how to please. You'll experience the true essence of their dedication to the environment and responsible gastronomy. Oh,and the breakfast in the morning finished off our stay very nicely.

Good food lovers should make a Beeline here. My wife had an overnight stay and treated ourselves to an absolutely superb dinner, every element of the meal more than met our expectations with each course exciting pallet. For our main course we both chose the Lobster and Steak sharing dish all the elements of this meal were cooked to perfection, throughout our meal the staff were attentive but not intrusive and would offer advise if requested. Retiring to our room was also a pleasure, it being very well appointed, equipped and pristine clean throughout.

We had a large mothers day booking. Firstly, there is no doubt the food was delish and the staff were very attentive. The only downside was the lack of veg for the fish main. We didnt realise the veg was for the meat eaters when ordering. As we are big veg fans, sharing the veg for two across the 4 four fish eaters meant we were a little disappointed. We did purchase the cauliflower cheese as an additional but the fish eaters would have liked some veg too. However, the fish was lovely and we all enjoyed our food and drinks so, we would return but for the cost, it would have been perfect if we had understood. The restaurant was very busy and we should have asked for more, however, we were on with the mains before my hubby said the meat eating party behind us had two veg portions. On the positive side, the venue was warm, staff were fantastic and the quality of the food was great. The food was so delish, we could have done with a spoon for the egg starters as not to waste the sauce. Thank you.

Had a lovely Mother's Day meal here today. The service was fantastic, the food was fantastic and they accommodated all dietary needs and a vegan menu. There was 10 of us and the food came out beautifully presented. The service was exemplary from the kitchen, waitresses and bar staff. Well done Hope and Anchor we will be returning very soon.

We waited over an hour for our meal . We were told to arrive before our booking of 5pm to get food orders in before hand . So orders taken at 16:35. We ordered 4 main courses that arrived an hour later! The gluten free options were minimal, I was asked if I minded having chips that had been in the fryer with battered fish ! Obviously they have no idea what it means to have coeliac disease and it meant the only option was mashed potato. Food was just left on the table no explanation about the food , who the vegetables were for etc. All in all a very poor experience from what is supposed to be a Michelin star rated restaurant. Why can’t menus be labels up gf and V ? It’s not hard to do . We won’t be eating there again time soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous set menu to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Suberb food and exceptional service from a team of professional and personable young people who are a credit to The Hope and Anchor!

Was taken for a birthday meal by my wife, staff were great and explained the menu to us and their commitment to using as much as they can to reduce food waste . My main of belly pork was brilliant, as was the coffee creme brûlée. My wife and daughter enjoyed their meals too. Will definitely be back again.

Absolutely fantastic meal at the Hope and Anchor. First visit here and we will definitely be back, service was friendly but professional, we had a slight issue with the cooking of one of our meals and this was rectified immediately and discreetly. My only positive feedback would be the coffee crème brûlée was in a dish too shallow. The result was not enough crème and it was slightly warm as the impressive crunchy top was grilled/torched. The flavours were excellent but I’d suggest a smaller but deeper dish.

Let’s start with the main event, food and bev, outstanding tastes, flavours, quality, portion sizes, and presentation. Very smart venue, in a pretty brownfield location, albeit with panoramic views north and west over the Humber, from the restaurant, but decidedly not from the bar! Pricing is unnecessarily high; the overall experience including location doesn’t warrant these prices, in my view. The other odd feature was the non-optional introductory speech from our server, about the establishment’s policy of using the whole animal. Not for the squeamish, or for the borderline vegetarian, and really could be toned down. I would think twice about returning.

The environment is lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I think price wise it’s on the higher side but for a Gastro pub …. Probably normal so no complaints there…. I feel it’s the food that let the place down which is a real shame. There is a good choice on offer but the chef puts their twist on the menu. For example. We ordered a crab starter. Looked great …. Perfectly presented. Mashed with dill. Dislike dill so not eatable ….. no mention of dill in the menu…. I ordered bangers with onion gravy …. The sausages were of good quality but again so spiced just not enjoyable. I ate them but repeated on me all night. If you are using a specific flavoured sausage please put it in the menu to enable proper choice ….. Mac and cheese ordered …. Again mashed with some sort of mustard … again not mentioned in the menu. You get the picture. I guess it’s all down to taste some people may love the food so it may just be me and my wife. On the plus side the chicken live pate was terrific. Sorry to leave a mixed review but perhaps more info in the menu would be helpful

Absolutely loved our entire stay here for my partners birthday on Friday night. Nothing was too much trouble at any stage as I had been in contact regarding a few special surprises. Staff throughout were so friendly and attentive. An absolute stunning meal and beautiful surroundings. Will definitely be returning.

My husband and I booked for lunch following a recommendation from a friend. We arrived early for our booking on a freezing cold, foggy day. The welcome was as warm as the log burner in the bar. We sat and relaxed with a drink by the fire until our booking time. The service is second to none, staff were polite, knowledgable about the food and drinks and happy to tell us all about the ethos of The Hope and Anchor. We had 3 courses each, everything was delicious, sublime and flavourful with everything on the plate complimenting everything else. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing and we had a much needed relaxing lunch. We drove home, replete and already planning our return.

Having been a regular visitor here for a number of years, and written both positive and negative reviews in the past, I’m pleased to say standards have been raised again! Visited with friends, our waitress was lovely, as were all the staff we encountered. Food came out quickly was hot, plentifully and of a good quality. We really enjoyed Sunday lunch here and will definitely visit again very soon.

Lovely cosy place with good views of the humber & sunsets. We had the 3 course Christmas menu of soup, lobster pate, turkey dinner & Christmas pudding. All the food was outstanding, cooked perfect with lots of flavours. Staff were attentive, friendly & professional.

Stayed here with family for our annual Christmas get together and could not fault it! The food was absolutely superb. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We often struggle when staying overnight because of beds being too uncomfortable and hard but here the bed was so comfortable. Highly recommend this place and will be back. Looking forward to coming again for a Sunday roast at some point!
