The best stone baked pizzas ever! Fantastic atmosphere and this place is home to the brilliant Y Street Band on the last Friday of the month. Definitely worth a visit to see these talented musicians and for the overall great experience!

Good pub serving Ossett Beers, very good. Superb pizza. Recommended.

Great pub, and a must visit if you are in the area. The food is tasty, plentiful, and good value for money. Plenty of selections of cask ales and other lagers at a reasonable price. Favourite place in York… (besides the pork pie shop)

Long and narrow pub with a lot of character. A different selection of tap beers, real ales and craft beers available. Staff were friendly and polite. Camera discount also available. Nice oldy worldy pub with old style coloured tiles on the walls and great chandeliers. Beer was great. Enjoyed my visit.

Best pizza I’ve had in the UK - no contest. We had the Espanola (Chorizo & Manchego) and the pepperoni, both excellent. Large tap selection. Only wish we had been there on a night with live music.

Lovely open plan building with an incredible selection of beer. Knowledgeable, friendly staff that make the good beer better.

A great place to eat and drink in York. Vibrant and alternative, but chilled out, with great pizza and loads of taps. It's our go to when out in York.

Waved at the man with the flat cap to get some service after 8 minute stood at an empty bar on a Saturday. 2 seconds after frosty service and payment smiled and said “45 minute wait on food”. Just why? Better to be nice I’d say 🤷🏼‍♂️

We always make sure to get to The Hop anytime we're in York, one of our favourite places, excellent choice of beers and some great pizza to boot!

My husband is now a wheelchair user, so on our recent visit to York, I scouted for 'accessible friendly ' places to eat and drink. York is full of beautiful old buildings, and regrettably, access to some places is challenging. The main entrance to The Hop has a step, but I loved the quirky look of it and excellent reviews on Google, so I popped in. Lovely young lady behind the bar let me know they had an accessible entrance. They don't take reservations, but we were going to eat early. On arrival, staff were amazing. Pizza dining area beautiful and atmosphere buzzing. The place soon started to really fill up. Pizzas' great and fab selection of ales and drinks. Great dining experience.

Great line up of rotating cask and keg beers. Staff are brilliant; helpful and friendly. Never eaten there but the food looks good too

Absolutely gorgeous architecture inside, felt like I was at the grand central station. Exquisite brickwork, stained glass what more do you want! We ordered cask ale that was extremely well conditioned, but most importantly local to Yorkshire. The pizza was medium in size but chocked full of flavour, transporting me back to Italy.

Been before and was decent. Latest visit though the pizzas were disappointing. Incorrect pizza and when correct pizza came it was missing toppings

Been here a few times. Always a popular pub for food and ales. Very good selection of beers. And a separate backroom for great Pizza's. The old tilled walls are from the original building/Butchers give the pub a unique Providence. Very busy at weekends with occasional live music. Well worth a visit.

Great atmosphere, good food, and a wide range of drinks. Staff very helpful - I only have use of 1 arm, and they took my drinks to my table even though pub was very busy. Prices standard for York.

Lovely, lovely staff, especially Dave and Zoe. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a good evening. Gave a great and unique review of each beer, the staff knew what they know what they're on about. Absolutely recommend and will be back ASAP

I didn't expect to see a number of Ossett brewery beers available, so it was a very pleasant surprise. The beer I had (White Rat) and the service was excellent and, one day, I will try the food. Update, I have tried the food and it (a pizza) was excellent. Also, there are a couple of Ossett beers that I haven't tried, yet.

Popped in at lunchtime; pint and very nice pizza for £12 - job done!

Went out with some mates on the 31st of August 6pm. Was instantly refused at the door with no explanation, was our first place to visit as we wanted a drink with some food. Will not be returning due to this poor door staff policies.

Lively bar selling lovely pizza.

I had been telling my friends about this place for a long time. Saying how nice the food was and a wide selection of beers etc. However come the 31st of August at 7pm we were refused entry for absolutely no reason. No one was drunk, or dressed inappropriately, no one had even managed to utter a word before we were told by the doorman "NOT TONIGHT". I'm 41 years old Dad of two. Absolutely shocking. When it's just me and the wife and not my friends, we won't be coming back there ever again.

A great pub with a lively atmosphere. Staff are friendly, quick and helpful. The food menu is limited - pizzas and fries, but the pizzas are very good, and have a thin & crispy base. And there's a wide selection of toppings. Over half the seating is on high stools, which I'm not really keen on.

Really nice place, the pizzas were great! Kids ones are huge!!! The beer was also lovely had the yon lager and a Capricciosa Pizza

I ate a pizza that was cooked in a stone oven, I didn't see the pizza being made but it seemed to be freshly made, the pizza base was super thin and crispy and the topping was delicious.

Beer and pizzas were great, but the service, kindness, and disposition of the staff knocked it out of the park. By far the best service I've had in a long time. Everyone was so nice and happy to be there. Hopefully I can go back there sometime.

I visited this really good real ale pub mostly Osset hand pumped beers 7 on on 2 Banks of 5 hand pumps,,on my visit lively pub with well manera and good bar staff the beer I had was delicious this pub should be in the Good Beer Guide I visited this pub on Monday 2nd May Also, background punk music was ace Wednesday 10th July 2024 Today, I again came to York and did another review on this great York real ale pub, which had today a plethora of Ossett brewery real ales on. This pub has really good staff a local and tourist clientelle and easy going background music on. The pub consists of a large wooden floored drinking area with another outdoor drinking area to the pubs rear. This pub is amongst a multitude of great real ale pubs within a 7 minuites walk. I was very impressed as before when I came with this pub and its volume of hand pumped ales on offer today😁

Food great, but a long wait, pizzas worth it. Lovely dough. Drinks good choice and attentive, friendly service. Got quite noisy as it got busier.

By far, our most favorite pub within York, and couldn’t have been happier with the selection of beer, taps, atmosphere, and amazing service by the bar staff. Clearly our bartender was a big Smith fan and was nice enough to play some Smiths while we were there.

the atmosphere in this bar is great! drinks are delicious with an excellent gin menu and the pizzas are delicious (although a bit too cheesy, cant fault them on that though)! will continue to come here for the foreseeable future!

An absolutely amazing bar. I love coming back to York and visiting this place. The live music is always phenomenal, and Tamzie behind the bar is so kind and so welcoming. Incredible experience, will definitely be seeing me again soon

Visited this bar a few times as it has great Ossett drinks available. On our most recent visit we decided to order pizza for lunch. It was one of the tastiest, cheesiest pizzas we’ve ever had. The cheese was very tasty and the topics well spaced out and lots to enjoy. Would recommend.

One of the best bars in York. Come here most Sundays and the pizzas are among the best Iv ever had. Open mike night is generally spot on as well.

Whenever we visit York (about 3 times a year) this place is always on the route. A great combination of fabulous beers and a super pizzeria.

First time. Stopped off for a few drinks. Quick service, good choice of beer. Didn’t try the pizza’s but looked great

Very nice venue. We went for lunch. Real home made pizzas with a wide choice of toppings. You can even see the Pizza Oven if you sit in the back of the building, where It's very light and airy by the way !. Good value-excellent food and real ales. Very nice ! We'll definitely visit again and would recommend it.

Be careful paid for drinks with a twenty pound note and was given change for a tenner. Questioned and barman denied it. Won't rush back

First came here a few years ago just after the bar opened. Jorvic looked in and saw the array of handpumps serving real ale. Mainly the full Ossett Brewery range plus guests.Has a pint of Butterly bitter..yummy. Been a few times since. A large single room bar with a Pizzeria to rear..never eaten though..much to the disgust of Paulicarus..but Madge cooks great ones at home on our log burner. Very friendly bar. Come here on most visits.

Fresh pizza on paper plates and craft beer. Enticed by the £12 pizza and pint lunch special, we visited and were quite happy with the food and service we received Pizza was freshly made to order and the craft lager was a perfect partner. Venue is beautiful- high ceilings and bright. Overall enjoyable experience.

Good CAMRA ale pub, but a little more pricey than my local - but it IS in the city centre, so no real surprise. Good staff on day of visit, who remembered we were still CAMRA members.

Great atmosphere, great selection of beers, live music, great crowd, you need to experience the Hop in York. I didn't eat so can't rate the food, but know they cook their own pizzas which looked very nice

The Hop is always good for a beer and pizza. On tap beers are always fresh and varied.

Just had a lazy Sunday afternoon in the rear bar. Super range of drinks and super looking main course food. We only sampled fancy snacks but all were very good.

The choice of real ale and the staff make this a good place to go.we felt safe there with all of the track and trace and all of the other coving rules.

Popped in for a few drinks and was very impressed with the selection of drinks on offer paired with the excellent team on duty at the time made for a great experience. Definitely coming back again.

Love this pub. Staff can be a bit grumpy though and I've had to ask to he served a cpl of times.

Beers are great and the pizza come hot out the proper brick oven. All handmade and perfectly crisp

Didn't have food. Ales cider and hot chocolate very good. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Comfy seats.
