The Hop Beer Shop in Chelmsford

On the way to get a take out and saw a few people enjoying a quality beer in peace. No youngsters swearing, just people relaxing with a quality beer or cider in a quiet atmosphere. Lovely welcoming Landlord , very knowledgeable and even had a quick sample before I bought. The way proper beers / ciders should be served. I'm only in the area for a couple of weeks but will go frequently whilst here. Enjoy everyone!!

Go here. Seriously just go here. If you love great beer or cider, a great atmosphere, friendly locals and friendly staff that is. The selection of beers and ciders here is wonderful, something for everyone.

Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable service provided. I went in late on a Saturday afternoon and asked for a polypin. They were so helpful and accommodating and filled one for me with wonderful cask ale whilst I waited.

Popped in so my son could buy us a beer on his 18th birthday, really friendly and accommodating. Will return when lockdown ends.

Always a friendly service. Wide beer selection. Staff knowledgable on the beer as well so good for recommendations. Dog-friendly, and always a good atmosphere in there. Very small venue so not many seats and probably not great for someone who is covid-anxious, but I always sit outside anyway as there are a few seats out on the pavement. Have recommended to many friends as it’s such a friendly local.

Myself and my a Husband like to visit this lovely, rustic micro pub every other month or so and always feel warmly welcomed and have a lovely time having a beer or two. The owner is a very nice, friendly man and always happy to chat about the beer and ciders he sells and let you try before you buy sometimes. Highly recommend if you like your drink well kept, fresh and at times interesting and adventurous! How little pubs should be :)

Working in Chelmsford for a couple of days I was looking for somewhere to have a decent pint at the r work and stumbled upon this micro pub - living up north im particular about my ales and stouts and this place did not disappoint! More importantly the regulars were al very friendly and welcoming and I had a great conversation with a couple of folks - highly recommend this place and I’ll be back again on my next visit! Cheers!

visited today for first time,good to see that they open at midday unlike many other micro pubs,tap rooms et cetera,decent choice of ales and ciders reasonably priced and friendly staff.

Excellent atmospheric little boozer. Eclectic mixture of clientele mirrored by the drink choice. Some good cask ales, a few draft beers and a number of bottles from both local brewers and Belgium and cider drinkers are well catered for.

We went there but it is being refurbished or new ower and place was messy and unwelcoming, disappointing.

We went to the Hop Beer ship on a Saturday night and had a really great time. There’s loads of choices of craft beers, the place is small but so welcoming and cozy. The owner is a really nice person as well, and just talks to everyone in the pub. I highly recommend that place!!

A regular at Hop Beer Shop, love the selection of beers from the keg to the ciders to the ales to the bottles there’s always such a great selection. The place has a great atmosphere and is very friendly and welcoming. Staff are really friendly and make the place what it is. They are also very knowledgable and always on hand to advise about what beer you might like best. Take outs are also available. Be aware that the bar is very small so if in a large group you may want to get there early or just don’t expect a seat!

I have to say I have never drunk beer kept so well and the are fantastic and so well educated in the products they serve.

Great little micro brewery with takeaway options. Punters preferring unfined beers and those following a vegan way of life are spoilt for choice with the bottled selection offering something a little bit different from the usual brews.

Always a pleasant visit. Friendly service, can get very full as it is after all a micro pub. Usually a choice of 4 or 5 good real ales and a good selection of bottled beers.

Although small, this place is brilliant! Lovely ciders at around £3.50 a pint and a glass of wine for £2. Real ales etc on sale straight from the barrel. Wooden floors, dogs allowed and friendly staff and customers. Outside seating and you can take away 2 pints in a carton. Downside is that it shuts at 9pm and not open on a Sunday... otherwise fabulous!

This is a fabulous bar for a beer or glass wine on your way into town. greater atmosphere, lovely guys serving you, lots of bottles of beer to chose from, sadly only 3 wines but hey its a beer bar. we will make it a frequent stop.

Been here a few times now and it's a must for any drinker , I say drinker because you can get a glass of wine , Yes it's a micro brewery and off some great beers many local , I'm not a real ale person but they do offer a good range of bottle lagers which is up my street , This is not a large place but very friendly people who run and visit this place

Thought we needed to add another review as this really is a cracking place for a beer. Good, well kept ales and a large selection of beers for takeaway from all over Europe. Price is good and there are no distractions like TV and music. Do we get a free pint for a review? Brilliant place

Stopped in this shop while walking near our hotel and we were surprised at the nice selection of beers from around the world. Very good!

I have been here few times now and its small with little seating, Once a small shop now a micro pub. I'm not a real ale fan but when i visit i'm always with one and i'm told great range of ales. But for for me its the bottle Lagers which are very good its basic but who cares we are not here for fancy decor just good beer

I love this micro pub. As small as your living room and just as friendly! A big selection of beers and ciders, too much to sample!! Also lots of bottles to choose from. Carton to take away draft if you fancy it. A cosy and friendly place, where people share tables and chat to each other. Refreshingly no TV or duke box r games machines here. A place to meet and chat and sample new drinks!

Very small but friendly. We went for a drink before a meal down the road. As long as you can get in it's a really bustling little room. Bit like being in the kitchen at a party. There are seats and tables but don't expect to get one.

I've been a regular for 18months now. An absolute corker of a place. Great beer. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Superb.

Only big enough for about a dozen people, but cosy atmosphere just adds to the fun! Friendly staff serving good choice of locally brewed beers. Very convenient with plenty of other pubs around to move on to.

Have been visiting the Hop Shop on and off since it opened, have never been disappointed by the selection of ales on tap, however I normally try one of the four cask ciders too!

Wij kenden het concept Micropub nog niet en vonden deze locatie in een Camra foldertje, dus moeten we hier heen. Het is een kleine winkel met heel veel bier in fles en enkele taps. Het mooie is dat je alles ook aan enkele tafeltjes kunt nuttigen.
