Great spot right on the quayside, close to many other bars and restaurants. Enormous menu of drinks and cocktails, especially several pages of different delicious gins. Buzzy atmosphere thanks to the DJ who was making some excellent music choices - our Shazam was being used a lot! Recommended.

Great bar and coffee shop. Food choices light and fresh. Not a main dinner place but the charcuterie board and salad offerings are a big step up from a Gregg's Stottie for lunch.

Very warm welcome, great vibe, easy, one of the nicest places we visited on our weekend. A jewel to revisit.....and the smell of Coffee was heaven 😍 Thank you for your hospitality 👏👏🫶

Great spot to come for afternoon coffee and cake (and maybe the odd cocktail or two), and enjoy the view out of the window and let the world pass by. Staff made us feel welcome, and will definitely stop by again when in the area

You pay for the location, otherwise all good.

Been here a few times. I find the staff are always friendly and accommodating, the venue has a nice view out on the tyne and it is lovely sitting outside when the weather is nice. A small caveat that the outside seats see quite a lot of foot traffic going past and we experienced people approaching us for money while enjoying our cocktails (not the venues fault really). Good value on 2 for 1 cocktails and a genuinely enjoyable place for stop for a few drinks

My friend and I were taking pictures in the area & I asked the staff if they wouldn’t mind us shooting a few inside the venue as long as we bought some food & drinks. They were all very welcoming & happy to oblige. The espresso & the latte were excellently made & I would highly recommend the caramel short bread & the pastries. The inside of the venue has been decorated very tasteful with 70s style wooden panelling, rustic lighting & incredible views of the millennium bridge. We also found the atmosphere to be a friendly one. Will definitely return in the near future & recommend to friends & family.

Great place for coffee and cake.

The coffee and the desert were so nice. But the problem is the approach of the waiter was not good. He was checking my coffee to finish always staring it me. Whenever I am done with coffee and desert, he gave me the receipt to leave the place. I understand there can be a lot of guests but for 2 sized table looking at the customer and making him leave as soon as possible to welcome more visitors is not kind. I am not planning to return back. Please try to respect every person. I know you want to welcome more guests by leaving others but staring them always and always and giving them the bill after they got last shot from their coffee is extremely RUDE. I was shocked to behave like that in England.

Beautiful tasty food, lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.

Interesting looking bar, they do a tapas type menu and cater for non alcoholic and alcoholic customers. Barman that served me was very friendly and welcoming. Expresso martini was nice and creamy. It's overlooking the river as well, so the views are nice. Prices are reasonably priced for a cocktail.

Lovely place nice coffee an scone.. Waitress terrible, rude, impatient and no manners.. Will not go again very disappointed

Very bad and unprofessional staff I ask for a mocktail, which is known to be without alcohol, and they bring me a completely alcoholic drink, and I asked to change it and asked again for a mocktail, and the same mistake was repeated, and I do not think that it is a mistake. It was a bad experience.

Very disappointed, I have asked today for a flat white to have it outside, and the lady said you can not have it outside, which is very strange, as the tables were available outside and I can see people setting outside. I really felt that she didn’t want me to order!!

Great little set up akin to something in Spain. Table service a nice touch and the place itself is very nice and cozy along with a great view. The staff are all a credit, are genuinely friendly and sincere. The Soultrain cocktail made with Bulleit bourbon is an absolute taste sensation! Myself and my gf Lynn also had a good crack with the owner Warren, who sat with us. Among many things we chatted about, one of the huge challenges he's facing, along with many others in hospitality is the huge cost of his energy. Absolutely mind boggling monthly amounts. The government has totally fu#*ed this country and it needs sorting out. Bas#ards!

This is such a friendly place, food is great though we didn't eat this time, other than a a divine chocolate brownie (gluten free). Coffee is good, not bland multinational stuff. It's right on the quayside with lovely view of the millennium bridge, the sage and the Baltic. Definitely worth a visit.

Great place we often visit. However, today was slightly disappointing as the staff seemed as if they couldn’t wait to get us out of the place, very strange considering the place was quiet and nobody was waiting for a table. Hence a very rushed lunch and bad customer relations. We will come back but please let customers take their time .

Great location on the quayside, for a coffee. Decor has been done really well, with exceptional service for the friendly staff. All I would say is you can't tip by card so make sure you have a few quid :)

I love this place, one can sit for hours and people watch whilst enjoying delicious food, coffee and cocktails! It has a really wonderful ambience and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Hmmmm....to be honest £10.90 for what was claimed to be a large but actually medium fair to adequate dry wine and a coffee and no....I just couldn't be arsed to argue🥱 try the Eye on the Tyne or Broad Chare just around the corner 👍👍

A small bar on the quayside, modern interior, could be crowded on a weekend.

Found it difficult to contact them as was trying to phone them, but then I figured out to message them via facebook, thereafter very quick to message back and book a table.

Hooch is excellent! Nice range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Nice food menu and "specials nights" such as a free cheeseboard with a bottle of wine.

There are some good reviews on here, which makes it a shame that we have to write a not very good one. We used to go to the previous business for coffee when visiting the Quayside, so when we saw it had changed, decided to give it a try. There were two waitresses and three staff behind the counter. We had to wait a short while for our order to be taken. We ordered a latte and an Americano without milk and two fruit scones, what could be easier? We waited quite a while and it was only when I caught the waitressess eye that we got our coffees......no scones, we thought she would be returning with them and again after trying, we gave up bothering to ask. When we went to pay via the other waitress, we asked to pay for our coffees. She opened the order on the till she saw that scones were on the order and she looked at our table. We told her, we weren't given the scones. She said, "oh sorry, what are they doing on there then"? Well, maybe because we ordered them but hadn't received them. Not good, particularly when she informed, who we premused was the supervisor or manager and he appeared to shrug it off and asked if we'd paid for them. Won't be back.

Great little place ...we used to go here when it was another coffee shop quite some time ago .. and we weren't disappointed ...the hot chocolate was smooth and silky! And the cakes were gooey and yummy ... So says our kids anyway! .. some seating outside and inside too .. very cute little place with lovely views of the river

Love it here!! Really good quality, nice environment and lovely staff. Will definitely be back to see the sunset. Also, amazing coffee and milk alternatives available. The artisan bread suits more special then it is…couple slices of dry toasted bread. The olives are great though!

The Hooch Bar on the quayside in Newcastle is a very Fawlty Towers experience, if that's what you're looking for.... The decor and views from the bar are superb. I'd even recommend the toilets as being amongst the cleanest in Newcastle. But on the day I visited, I found the staff to be indifferent to the customers. For example, a friend I was with asked a waitress if they stocked a particular wine, to which she replied with a very curt "I don't know! I'm new here!" When my order arrived, a solitary Mocha coffee, the same waitress had placed it on a huge round tray, it was the only item by the way and held the tray at full arms stretch expecting me to take the Mocha coffee off the tray myself. This may to most people sound like very petty and nitpicky and I realise that bar work for many young people may be boring. "A means to an end." A stepping stone to another career but the bar is beautiful.... And expensive but it is on the quayside.... I also noticed that other customers were laughing at the same waitress behind her back. In short, very nice and stylish decor, great views of the quayside, clean toilets but very expensive with indifferent, not even consealing their boredom staff.... I feel very sad giving The Hooch such a negative review.

Staff very friendly, polite and courteous an asset to The Hooch. Ordered a soya latte and a cappuccino (having asked if soya milk was available) we were told there was aporox a 10 minute wait as there were three orders to process before ours, it took 35 minutes from ordering to arriving at the table, which seemed quite a long time for 2 coffees. On bringing the coffee to the table the waiter said there was no soya milk available so the latte was made with oat milk (would have been helpful if the staff had asked if this was ok before preparing it) Would give The Hooch another try on the basis of how pleasant the staff were, the coffee when it finally arrived was lovely!

Beautiful coffee place with professional service. Waitresses in uniform. Fresh cakes served in beautiful croquery with fork and knife. The coffee was also very tasty. Nice ambient, temperature and music. Very clean toilets with soap and intimate freebies for woman and also a mirrow that makes you slim. Good prices.
