The Hooch in Newcastle upon Tyne

Fabulous visit to The Hooch as part of my Wife’s 50th birthday celebrations. reserved a table for 5pm, requesting the lovely table in the window overlooking the quayside. Also requested a few decorations and a bottle of champagne to be chilling on our arrival. All was done as requested and the staff were fantastic throughout our visit. We enjoyed the champagne and cocktails (especially the Kraken Fizz & Summer Breeze) and would have stayed longer than the 2.5 hours if we didn’t have a dinner reservation elsewhere. Overall I cannot rate the venue highly enough for the view, the service and the very cool atmosphere.

Superb coffee and snacks and a lovely ham and cheese croissant all with good service and friendly staff. all with a great view on the quayside.

Super experience here this afternoon. Great light menu, had the meat sharer which was large and more than enough for two. Drinks too had a large menu to choose from. Staff friendly and attentive. Prices very reasonable for the location. Definitely call if your passing.

Delicious coffee, panini's and cake for lunch with friendly service.

This is a small Café Bar right on the water side near the Millenium Bridge, we popped in for a light lunch. The place was pretty busy, but the staff made us welcome and got us seated right away. The coffee was outstanding, and the toasted filled croissant was really tasty and hit the spot nicely. The decor is really nice with jazz album covers the seating is comfortable and there is a nice ambience about the place. Staff are really nice. Toilets were clean and fresh. This is one of these places found by accident, that makes for a pleasant memory, if you are in the area give it a try, it will be worth it.

Really friendly cafe/bar in fantastic location, your greeted with a smile when you first enter and seated almost immediately. Service is excellent with no long waits for drinks or food. Background of soul music etc set us up for a lovely late afternoon/evening, Played vinyl after 4pm, some great sounds from a knowledgeable host. Overall thoroughly recommend.

We made a booking and the table was ready on arrival. Greeted well and great service throughout. The food and cocktails were top notch all set in a great venue with tremendous views. It was a great vibe with quality music and the staff were very attentive and polite. We will be back

Perfect spot on the Quayside, good view of The Sage, great coffee and laid back music! Didn't try the food but will definitely do so next time.

2nd Saturday in a row I’ve been! Tonight I brought my team for cocktails & once again they were amazing! Espresso martinis, two porn star martinis & two cracking un alcoholic porn star martinis (and a fantastic pint of Guinness) Staff were so welcoming & really looked after us! The music was great & the people sitting around us were also loving the vibes! Thanks again guys!

Service great, coffee excellent.

We came across this place one Saturday eve on a weekend away. It was cold and it looked inviting and we were not disappointed! Great drinks selection, and the cheese board was heavenly! Add in some nice easy music vibes and the atmosphere was perfect for a chilled Saturday eve. If in Newcastle check it out!

It’s lovely to see that independent cafes still thrive, and this cosy, welcoming spot on the quayside is a prime example. The cafe is clean, and the attentive staff ensured that all tables were spotless. I appreciated the table service, a refreshing change from the self-service approach common in many places today. I ordered a flat white, and while the milk was slightly too hot for my taste, the coffee was still enjoyable. The cakes were absolutely delicious, with a great selection to choose from. The menu offers a nice variety for a light lunch, and I would definitely return.

This place is so great I am hesitating giving it any review as I might not be able to get in if it gets too busy. OK, i'll put my selfishness to one side and report the truth. The Hooch is one of my most favourite spots in Newcastle to enjoy a coffee or a cocktail and perhaps a small meal. The ambience is awesome, the music is often funky soul music and Anna makes sure the service is great. The nights which Warren arranges that have live music or themed DJ evenings sell out real fast so keep an eye on their advance notices on social media. Great bar, excellent selection of drinks and excellent service.

It has a great atmosphere, but on the day we reserved, they didn't serve food after 6 pm, so we just ordered drinks.

This was our third New Years Eve at The Hooch and I can't see us ever going anywhere else. The range of drinks on offer is excellent, especially the coctail menu which is very creative and absolutely excellent. Coupled with world class service from fantastic staff it's just an unbeatable destination. It's open all week and holds regular events featuring top DJ's and great music

First top tip is to book in advance through the website to guarantee a seat , but walk -in’s are always welcome. The food is packed with big banging flavours , so intricately layered that it demands your full attention can sometimes be exactly the comfort we need. The Bar /Cafe is nestled beautifully on the Quayside with panoramic views of The Baltic, Millennium Bridge and The Glasshouse. If you want to know where the greatest cocktails and mixologists are in Newcastle..ladies and gentlemen, I give you The Hooch . Both dramatic and refreshing, served by the greatest rock stars on The Quayside, The Staff of The Hooch. They make you feel more like Family than just familiar. The atmosphere is warm , welcoming and friendly with the most amazing music played to feed your ears.

Another chilled early evening at the Hooch to start off my friend’s Birthday. We all enjoyed some lovely food which was well presented. The music as ever was great and the service was spot on. The Christmas special drinks were a hit as well. The place is a little gem 🎄

Great spot right on the quayside, close to many other bars and restaurants. Enormous menu of drinks and cocktails, especially several pages of different delicious gins. Buzzy atmosphere thanks to the DJ who was making some excellent music choices - our Shazam was being used a lot! Recommended.

Great bar and coffee shop. Food choices light and fresh. Not a main dinner place but the charcuterie board and salad offerings are a big step up from a Gregg's Stottie for lunch.

Great spot to come for afternoon coffee and cake (and maybe the odd cocktail or two), and enjoy the view out of the window and let the world pass by. Staff made us feel welcome, and will definitely stop by again when in the area

You pay for the location, otherwise all good.

Been here a few times. I find the staff are always friendly and accommodating, the venue has a nice view out on the tyne and it is lovely sitting outside when the weather is nice. A small caveat that the outside seats see quite a lot of foot traffic going past and we experienced people approaching us for money while enjoying our cocktails (not the venues fault really). Good value on 2 for 1 cocktails and a genuinely enjoyable place for stop for a few drinks

My friend and I were taking pictures in the area & I asked the staff if they wouldn’t mind us shooting a few inside the venue as long as we bought some food & drinks. They were all very welcoming & happy to oblige. The espresso & the latte were excellently made & I would highly recommend the caramel short bread & the pastries. The inside of the venue has been decorated very tasteful with 70s style wooden panelling, rustic lighting & incredible views of the millennium bridge. We also found the atmosphere to be a friendly one. Will definitely return in the near future & recommend to friends & family.

Great place for coffee and cake.

The coffee and the desert were so nice. But the problem is the approach of the waiter was not good. He was checking my coffee to finish always staring it me. Whenever I am done with coffee and desert, he gave me the receipt to leave the place. I understand there can be a lot of guests but for 2 sized table looking at the customer and making him leave as soon as possible to welcome more visitors is not kind. I am not planning to return back. Please try to respect every person. I know you want to welcome more guests by leaving others but staring them always and always and giving them the bill after they got last shot from their coffee is extremely RUDE. I was shocked to behave like that in England.

Interesting looking bar, they do a tapas type menu and cater for non alcoholic and alcoholic customers. Barman that served me was very friendly and welcoming. Expresso martini was nice and creamy. It's overlooking the river as well, so the views are nice. Prices are reasonably priced for a cocktail.

Lovely place nice coffee an scone.. Waitress terrible, rude, impatient and no manners.. Will not go again very disappointed

Very bad and unprofessional staff I ask for a mocktail, which is known to be without alcohol, and they bring me a completely alcoholic drink, and I asked to change it and asked again for a mocktail, and the same mistake was repeated, and I do not think that it is a mistake. It was a bad experience.

Very disappointed, I have asked today for a flat white to have it outside, and the lady said you can not have it outside, which is very strange, as the tables were available outside and I can see people setting outside. I really felt that she didn’t want me to order!!

Great little set up akin to something in Spain. Table service a nice touch and the place itself is very nice and cozy along with a great view. The staff are all a credit, are genuinely friendly and sincere. The Soultrain cocktail made with Bulleit bourbon is an absolute taste sensation! Myself and my gf Lynn also had a good crack with the owner Warren, who sat with us. Among many things we chatted about, one of the huge challenges he's facing, along with many others in hospitality is the huge cost of his energy. Absolutely mind boggling monthly amounts. The government has totally fu#*ed this country and it needs sorting out. Bas#ards!

This is such a friendly place, food is great though we didn't eat this time, other than a a divine chocolate brownie (gluten free). Coffee is good, not bland multinational stuff. It's right on the quayside with lovely view of the millennium bridge, the sage and the Baltic. Definitely worth a visit.

Great place we often visit. However, today was slightly disappointing as the staff seemed as if they couldn’t wait to get us out of the place, very strange considering the place was quiet and nobody was waiting for a table. Hence a very rushed lunch and bad customer relations. We will come back but please let customers take their time .

Great location on the quayside, for a coffee. Decor has been done really well, with exceptional service for the friendly staff. All I would say is you can't tip by card so make sure you have a few quid :)
