I cannot fault the place. Not eaten as of yet however, by all accounts, the food is great (Many friends that are local recommend) I do not understand three consecutive negative reviews all referring to the owner/landlord. I am not local and have never in my dozen or so visits ever felt there is a problem with the attitude of the man, on the contrary, the guy and his wife are very pleasant and very welcoming. I guess the people feeling the need to show that much contempt are the real tw@s and are the ones causing a problem, no doubt p1$$ed up and loud. I cannot recommend the establishment enough. A great beer garden kept in beautiful condition. Very peaceful in the garden, too. Great selection of beers and service always served with a smile.

I've been a regular at this pub for a while, and I've seen it go through some changes. The latest one caught my interest, but it started off well and then took a nosedive. Last year, things were fantastic – a friendly community, great bar staff, and excellent service. But lately, it's turned into a gossip place. Weekends used to be lively and full of laughter, but now it seems like laughter is discouraged. Some bar staff, especially the females, have gained a reputation for dressing inappropriately, which doesn't come off as professional. What's bothering me is when I went out for a cigarette, hearing female bar staff getting involved with customers. On top of that, it feels like the landlord and landlady are constantly staring down at the customers, creating a rather uncomfortable atmosphere. I've also noticed the landlady drinking too much, which adds to the overall decline in the pub's vibe. The food is still good, but when I walk in, it feels like the place has lost its charm. Just miss the good old days.

The Honeycomb is my default lunchtime venue during the week. It is good value on the specials board that includes a desert. The Ocean Pie is so good I have it most weeks - also wide choice of food & beers. Pleasant Staff & good service - whats not to like! Never had a bad meal at the Honeycomb (regular now for several years) or had any issues afterwards if you get my drift. Highly recommended.

I went for lunch with a friend in early April. Only just round to writing a review. But I wanted to say we were very pleased with the quality of the food and value for money. It was quiet in there and the service we received from the bar maid was warm and friendly. The homemade macaroni cheese was absolutely delicious. Just how my mother used to make it!

Been in this pub a few times over the past few months and certainly won’t be going back. The main entertainment is the landlord (who looks like an evil gnome). He is usually more drunk than the customers and if you are not a regular he will just stare at you all night giving the evil eye. He has a very aggressive manner when he is drunk (small man syndrome) and I’m surprised he doesn’t get beat up with the attitude he shows customers. His wife has sat behind us a few times and she has a foul mouth, every other word was a swear word. Often they have beer at £2 pint. Turns out it is out of date and tastes vile, but rather than throwing it away they try to sell it. Beer that has gone off should not be sold even for £1 a pint. Even their main beer (tiger) never tastes fresh. I’m sure with the right managers this pub could be good. On a plus side the bar staff are friendly.

This pub was fantastic when the new people took over last year but have been in a few lunchtimes recently and been served by a lady who although is very pleasant, can't pull real ale to save her life ! I presume a new landlord/lady has taken over Looks like its back to Littleover for us !

I remember the Honeycomb back in 1976 when it was fairly new - the place would be really busy at weekends. Like many estate pubs it has always struggled with "Atmosphere" especially at mid week lunchtimes. I had heard there was a another change in Landlord / Landlady so decided to try a Thursday lunch time visit. The place was pretty empty with a handful of lone customers dotted around. I ordered the All Day Breakfast - I found it well prepared with good sized portions.I shall certainly visit again as I think the new management could turn the place into a popular venue again. I hope the new staff can get the message out there that it's a good place to eat & drink again. They have stiff local competition not far away with the Great Northern but could easily outperform the other pubs in Mickleover that also offer food.

Last night, we had taken our grandson on an educational nature walk in the surrounding area for his school project, and on our return home we popped into the honeycomb for a refreshment as a treat. However, my husband was told that my grandson would need to leave the premises!!As he is only seven and well behaved, he asked why? and explained that we were actually sitting outside, and no one else was around. He was informed it is the 'land lords licence', after 9pm. It was 9.05pm, as we wouldnt usually be frequenting these premises with a child at this time, but it was a bank holiday and a treat, so this occasion was exeptional.I challenged this issue, as they are a pub in the middle of a housing estate that purely recieves their trade from the exiting community, and should have taken this into account when applying for their licence. I remarked that other establishments in the area welcome families and do not have these restrictions in place.Surely a place as this should be welcoming trade, not turning it away?If we had been eating a meal, would they then have thrown us out at the 'stroke of 9' cutlery in hand??I stated that locals have kept their establishment open for many years, seeing lots of land lords come and go. Many years ago, this used to be a busy pub serving the local community, but now it appears most choose to go elswhere. Surely in these difficult times, they would be better applying for a decent licence that does indeed welcome all at any given time. Banning families is not the answer to serving the local community, and children are not the problem in this area.Although this is not a place we frequently visit, but have been many times over the last 40 years, for drinks, meals, parties, etc, and at times with our family. We will not now return, and intend to speak about this issue to our friends and neighbours in the local area who have frequented and supported this 'local'.

My partner and I came for food expecting good things after hearing about new management. The food arrived having clearly been microwaved and not even to a servable temperature. After waiting for my disappointing meal, I was greeted by hostility from the landlady when I raised this issue. Aside from the food being poor, the atmosphere was dim with not very many people being there. Will not be returning.

The new Managers took over the running of the Honeycomb mid-December 2018 and have made a positive impact, the pub is very welcoming to all and the bar layout has been improved. The Manager (and Licensee) Katie has introduced a number of musical events as well as Bingo and Quiz evenings, also a weekly afternoon Tea circle. We have dined there on a Sunday lunchtime, the meal was excellent, and good value, we have also dined on a couple of evenings, the food was good, but at the moment the menu has a limited number of choices, but I am sure this will be extended in time. The short time Katie has been running the Honeycomb as seen a great improvement from the previous Managers, and I look forward to being a regular customer again

Once again (from visiting when there was previous management), you walk in and everyone stares at you like you are not welcome, we are mid-twenties and the customers in were the older generation, obviously people who visit every week.

Arrived early afternoon and was assured by Amy on the bar that all food was available. There were very few others around eating or drinking, the Landlord Andy told us they had only been managing this pub for a short while. The menu was impressive if not a little ambitious for new owners. We chose to share a starter that did prove to be too much for us to finish, some of the meals we were told may take some time to prepare but our main courses were ok except my Wifes lacked taste and temperature and mine contained lots of meat but the chips were badly cooked. Overall the place didn't feel welcoming although comfortable, can't imagine that they ever get full but it is early days for them, no-one else arrived whilst we were there but we did leave mid afternoon.

Only been a few times and the pub itself is excellent, unfortunately the landlord brings this pub down from a 5 star review to a 1 star review. Not at all welcoming, not a single please or thank you when serving. If this guy improved his customer service skills certainly the place would be a lot busier. Many locals will travel further to other pubs rather than put up with the unfriendly landlord. I have nothing against the guy but it is almost as if he doesn't want you in his pub!

Having read some of the poorer reviews I thought it time to update my experiences here. I find the food is good value and obviously freshly cooked. It is so popular for a Sunday Lunch that you would struggle to get in without booking. In my opinion it is the best quality food out of the Pub Chains that operate in the Mickleover, Littleover, Etwall, & Hilton area. I guess the reason it is not busier is that it is not on a main route and perhaps it does not shout out like a branded packaged establishment.

Our first visit to the pub. Originally just stopping for a drink to see what it was like but ended up stopping for food and the quiz. (Food was ok) Two female staff members working and the quiz master were polite, chatty and friendly but sadly, the Manager wasn't so. He was rude, condescending and unhelpful after only asking a question as we didn't understand how the quiz worked. He ruined the end of what had been a pleasant evening.

The Honeycomb catered for my grandma's wake, so although not there for the best of reasons, we were given a really warm welcome and buffet spread was just what was required, with home cooked ham a real winner. For us, the fact the pub don't open for lunch on a Monday and Tuesday, other than for pre-booked events meant we had the pub to ourselves, were able to chat and reminisce and the landlord and lady and bar staff couldn't be more attentive. Visited last night on a whim and had a bit of a wait because the place was full. Once seated the staff were very attentive ensuring our drinks came quickly and clearing our plates. Each time with a smile and checking we were happy. There was a huge choice of dishes and they were kept well stocked. There's nothing worse than wanting a particular dish for it to have run out and not restocked and that didn't happen. There is no shortage of what I would call the premium dishes, such as lamb and king prawns and everything was high quality. We have visited several times and despite eating many dishes, I still haven't managed to try half of them. Place seems very well run with plenty of staff all working hard.

It was in 1979 as a 18yr old I and the youth of the day use to call into this wonderful propper café. The days of Anti pasti the punk band of derby who use to hang out on old derby Market place along with all the other people who use to call and eat or just drink the really good coffee and tea that use to be served here . I became homeless at around 20 yrs of age and every Thursday for reasons I'm still not sure of I use to always call into the Acropolis for either breakfast or a really hearty afternoon meal . It is such a shame to hear that the place has closed down. Another sad blow to derby I am sad to say . I can honestly say that the my memories of the place and the staff who worked there is one of gratefulness. The place literally kept me alive at a very dark period of my life . The food was brilliant and plentiful. Not sure if anyone who owned the place back then or who worked there back in the late 70s will read this but the Acropolis cafe saved my life . Sounds a bit odd I know but trust me to be able to have a lovely hot meal at affordable prices and a hot drink saved my life . Thank you all at Acropolis. That café has always always and will always hold a special place in my Heart 💙 . Such a loss . Thank you Barry . Xx

Surprised there aren't more reviews for this 'proper' cafe. Lots of simple, but filling choices - the usuals on toast, chip cobs, sandwiches, full meals etc - for excellent value prices. Fed 2 hungry kids and myself with drinks with change from £10 - try and do that elsewhere! Service was efficient, food arrived quickly. It tasted great and with good portion sizes. Just what was required!
