I've tried it twice since it's renaisance, and I'm sad to say how lifeless it is. A, real aehouse so close to the station is surely a 'No brainer'. Chuffer Knutters and real ale go hand in glove, however a venue bereft of atmosphere stands little chance. Unhappy employees radiate their discontentment to punters. I wish you every success in this new venture, unfortunately you will have to achieve your aims without my continued custom. Good luck.

Proper old school pub, with old school prices and a great landlord. He makes you very welcome and gives you reason to return. The young drunk idiot who decides to help out at times ruins the friendly atmosphere each and every time he appears mind.

Dropped by for a drink whilst staying nearby, to be honest couldn't wait to leave, as soon as we got to the bar was greeted by a very friendly bar maid but there was a tirade of bad language from a local. We sat down at the opposite end of the pub only to be engulfed with cigarette smoke from the patrons who were having a fag right in the entrance. I would recommend The Brunswick at the other end of the street over this establishment, it has a far superior choice of drinks and a much better ambience.

Visited the Station Inn for the first time ever on Wednesday evening. A small, pleasant but very traditional pub just outside the city centre, a short walk from the railway station. Friendly staff too.The menu was limited as to what was on offer, but when my food arrived (Steak and Ale pie with chips, 3 different veg and gravy it was very filling and delicious. At £11.35 for the meal and a pint of Guinness the price was about what you would expect to pay for a pub meal and a drink. The only downside is the limited menu, but the quality of the food is excellent.

Must be 45 years since I went in here and it hasn't changed one bit. That is not a criticism, it is an authentic pub not one trying to look the part. The service was quick I had Pedigree New World one of my favourites of the new lighter hoppier beers and the boss ( the Vodka and Tonic drinker) had a half of Bass from the jug, talk about reliving the past. The atmosphere in the pub was lively, one of the hidden gems in Derby

We had been walking around a bit lost on a wet night and stopped for a warm. We never expected to be able to get food at that time on a Friday night. It was 8.45 and asked if we could eat. They fed us very well and we came away happy. Thank you so much to the Scottish lady who looked after us even putting our wet coats on the radiator to dry out. The food was fine and very reasonable. Go there.

I spent two evenings in this pub, which is about 200 yards from Derby central station. It's a great, traditional beer drinkers pub. It has excellent beer (I tried the Deuachers and Marston's Pedigree), a subdued jukebox, basic yet comfortable seating, a neat and tidy exterior, and a brilliant landlord who gets that rare balance of unobtrustive friendliness and helpfulness just right. He clearly truly cares about the service he gives and values his customers. Both nights I walked in a stressed out wreck and walked out two hours later relaxed and happy with the world - and that is exactly what a pub should do for you. I couldnt recomment this place more highly.

One of my all time favourite pubs in the whole country, I very much enjoy travelling up from London to pop in for a few jars and have even contemplated moving to Derby so I can do it more often. A phenomenally well-run pub suited to real ale drinkers, with an ever changing selection of well chosen beer. The atmosphere in this place can be quite something to behold. I hope the younger generations cotton on and realise it's more fun having a natter out here than indoors behind a phone screen! Here's to many more years at the Smithfield and I hope to see you again soon.
