Excellent cosy friendly local pub with an excellent choice of ales.

Had a whisky at the bar after a hard day and drank it fast. Wouldn't serve another because they don't serve shots at the bar. I didn't realise they were the police on whisky dinking

Bloody lovely place. Bustling with beer lovers and a set of really well kept ales. It has a great atmosphere and a decent outdoor area. The licensees Jess and John are the loveliest and most professional people, who've been in the trade for years and know their stuff! Awesome. Can't wait to return.

Great space to meet up with friends over a drink. Different spaces inside and out and good range of ales.

Pleasant well maintained pub with a good beer selection

No Disabled facilities at all now.. even the toilet has gone! Completely blanked by one member of staff. The outside area, however, is really improving. Not a locals pub or a family one. Focusing on real ale custom and middle-aged customers. An excellent start for out of town visitors from the local hotels.

I've not had the pleasure to visit the five lamps for some time and haven't I been missing out! Fantastic atmosphere and a perfect pint of Bass . I'll be revisiting soon!

Easily the best pub in Derby, the staff are amazing and the selection and quality of beers is second to none. Whether it's quiet or busy the as atmosphere is warm and welcoming. They do a small range of traditional pub snacks, and hopefully don't divert from this as the focus on drinks is what leaves this pub unparalleled in the city. Simply the best, better than all the rest.

Brilliant customer service and would come again

Visited here for the 1st time with my hubby & two of our friends.. The atmosphere was great, with a good mix of age groups & which made for for a relaxing & very friendly establishment. Gluten free beer amongst the options available, which is always nice 👍

We got to the Five Lamps regularly. It has very much the feel of a London pub. Excellent choice of beer and cider. Great staff and atmosphere. Different events throughout the month. Highly recommend.

Fantastic pub which was bustling for a friday afternoon. Sharing platter was delicious as well, also doggy friendly and has doggy treats.

This place used to be such a great local. New owners, massive increase in prices, great range of beers but all far too warm to enjoy ( and it’s freezing outside ). Given it a fair chance but will not return any day soon

We regularly go here when we do an ale trail around derby. They always have a good selection of real ales and ciders. Usually very busy which is a sign they are doing a good job. Sometimes they have inexperienced staff (maybe student workers) on the bar who don’t know about the real ales but all staff are always friendly

Simply a great friendly pub, large selection of beers and good quality pub food. In an area with very good real ale pubs nearby, this one holds its own quite comfortably. Recently refurbished and with a change of management the 'Lamps' is a worthy destination. Enjoy. M

Good pub good selection of ales

We had a 50th party at the five lamps. the outside area was perfect and the log burner made it extra warm on a chilly November evening. Jess and John were very accommodating and the good platter of their lovely pork pies, scotch eggs and big cheese board went down a treat. Everyone commented about the great selection of beers and all the staff went out of their way to make the evening run well. Great job 5 lamps team, our new favourite pub 👍😃

Been here a few times and enjoy this smashing pub. Just outside Derby city, but easy walking distance and on many bus routes. Beer great, had a lovely pint of Bass today. When I’ve eaten here in the past the food has been good too. Staff friendly and polite. Car park at rear and an outdoor seating area. Well recommended 😀

Been meaning to visit for months, unfortunately on the previous attempt we found it shut.... turns out that the previous landlord had moved on. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, Brown Ales Pub Company has took over and massively invested in the place. Judging by previous pictures the changes have been hugely beneficial, it's got a similar feel to a London pub (without the London prices) modern but warm and inviting, the garden has also had a massive revamp, it's got two sections, an undercover non smoking side and an enlarged open air side that's fully surrounded by glass.....it's also one of the hottest places I've ever been in the summer...and I've been to Egypt and Morocco! The beer range seems to have also improved, they still have a few lagers on alongside a couple of traditional cask ales; however, there's now an excellent range of craft beer from the likes of Pentrich, Black Iris, Shiny, Polly's, Deya etc alongside modern cask from Two by Two, Pentrich, Bang the Elephant, Full Circle etc. Full meals have gone, replaced by quality snacks such as Scotch Eggs, pork pie, cheese boards, olives etc, in my opinion it's definitely the way forward. They've recently (May 2023) started limited tap takeovers/beer festivals with external food trucks in the garden. The GM and staff seem to understand current drinking preferences, what makes a beer and a decent pub... which is awesome. Alongside the Furnace and Flowerpot this side of Derby is absolutely worth visiting.

Called in for a drink but no food. Good selection of well kept cask and craft ales. It was a warm evening so sat in the conservatory at the rear so difficult to judge the atmosphere inside. Will definitely call again.

What a great refreshing pint! What a choice of beers! You can see this place is well looked after, there is no smell of stale beer, tables clean and polished, walls and lamp fittings dust free. I could use the toilet here but, more importantly, ANYONE THAT PAYS SO MUCH ATTENTION TO THE PLACE, MUST BE LOOKING AFTER THE CELLAR AS A CONNOISSEUR OF GOOD BEER. I wished I lived close to this pub.

What can I say I travel alot around pubs. And this is my favourite 😍. Best charcoal pork pie in Derbyshire great porters and the toilet is nice. Out beer garden all new is great. Love it.

Nice bar small area. but unfortunately the travelling from(beeston) Nottingham on bus and train is an issue other than that if you can stand the tour of Nottingham to derby worth a visit.

Modern Real Ale Pub just out of the City Centre. Well worth a visit, the Quiz night seemed well attended though a lot of knowledgeable students in attendance!

Always a decent pint in the lamps. Currently undergoing some TLC in the garden/car park. A bit strange when this could have happened during the winter months. Would definitely recommend

The best pub in Derby by far. Interesting surroundings but more importantly 11 handpulls with a different excellent real ale on each one, kept and served exceptionally well. What was also impressive was that the cider and craft beers were separate. Well worth the long walk from the station. If you really like real ale, wherever you live, you must visit this place.

My friends and I went to this pub for years but under new management the staff make us feel like we are an inconvenience to them every time we go. They lack charm when they ask us to move our chairs or to hurry our drinks. We are often a large party spending a lot on drinks and snacks. (They no longer serve food.) Two bar men stood over my female friend demanding her glass back. They did not do the same to a man on the other side of the pub and he was allowed to take his time finishing his drink. The previous management and staff made us feel at home and dealt with us courteously.

8pm on a Saturday night and the place is almost empty. Apart from a group of young people whose squeals are just annoying. Whilst we really like the improvements made to the decor of the pub since its change of management (apart from the fake trees and other greenery and the very low watt lightbulbs) the change to the quality of the beer is a great shame. The Oakham Citra used to be the best pint of Citra you could get. I aways said the Oakham tap couldn't beat it. That is no longer true. The Citra is no better than that served anywhere else in Derby. The prices have risen too and that mediocre pint of Citra was a whole £1 more than the one we had earlier. And no CAMRA discount either! We also miss some of the old locals and wonder where they've been pushed put to? We'd like to join them! The Five Lamps has changed from a great community pub to yet another city centre pub full of young people. Our Fridays night drinking sessions after work have been changed forever.

Cosy traditional style pub with a good range if beers, ales and ciders. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Its just outside the main city centre but still gets busy, good place to start of some drinks if yoir headed ntp town. It's got an outside area, some of which is covered. There's also a car park at the rear if anyone's driving and in the past I've asked if its OK to leave me car as I intended to drink more than legal to drive and they kindly allowed me to do so. Worth a visit for sure.

Pub was rammed at this time of year with customers enjoying a few drinks but managed to get a pint and went outside which is covered.

Now under new management and an even greater range of beers! Great staff too.

This newly refurbished pub is a real gem of a place to sit and relax in. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly and go the extra mile to ensure that everyone has a great time. There is an excellent choice of beers, wines, ciders and spirits and the pub is dog friendly too! Love the selection of games that have been added. Would highly recommend!

This pub has the chair Morpheus sit in when he gives Neo them pills. Beer slaps hard. Two thumbs up.

Changed... but not. Still has excellent but now expanded choice of beers, lovely staff, and many of the regulars, myself included.

The Five Lamps has had a full refurbishment along with new management. The decor inside is classic British pub with some quirky elements. Seating is plentiful with a mixture of tables and chairs and booths. The beer selection is excellent with MANY real and craft ales and real ciders to choose from. There is a selection of no/low alcohol beer which is actually quite nice! Good range of wine and spirits as well as soft drink options. No food offered here now, with the exception of bar snacks. Toilets have had a paint job too and are clean and functional. There is a small car park and a small outside seating area, half covered and non smoking, the other half more open to comply with smoking laws. Really nice pub, friendly staff and great beer. The pub is also dog friendly. What more could you want?!
