What a delightful cosy little pub, located just by the Hilton hotel. A cracking selection of ales, and ciders. The welcoming friendly staff really made the visit.

What is there left to say about the mystical Beer Palace that is The Hole In The Wall? Loads. If you can find this Brigadoon of a Bar in the first place proceed to pick a beer off the board and park your bum for a low stakes, high quality beverage experience. A full spectrum of pints across keg, cask, stout and fruit based drinks ensure no one goes underserved. Should you be with a useless friend who does not pint then break glass for an Emergency Buckfast Negroni and make them hate themselves. Well done The Hole. Keep on Holing On.

A genuinely brilliant pub. My friend and I were visiting from London (I went to uni at Sussex, so Brighton feels like a second home) and we chanced upon this place. What a find. Cosy, friendly, jovial, happy. We spent hours there - and time seemed to fly by. The white wines were great, and the bloody maries were amazing.

This is a nice little place right off the Brighton sea front promenade and a short step from the Hilton Doubletree. There is an excellent selection of craft draft beers and the staff are very knowledgable about each one. The site is small ‘apparently formerly Brighton’s smallest pub’ but it’s cost and fun with limited seating. The back room is popular with dog owners. The toilets are tiny and dated.

Since opening in 2021 The Hole In The Wall Brighton has quickly become a Mecca for beer lovers. The story goes that it got the nick-name because in times past they served Brighton’s fisherman through a hatch rather than let them in the pub to stink it up. My visits to The Hole in the Wall Brighton have always been to a pub that’s felt warm, welcoming, and passionate about beer. They are traditional and committed to cask on the one hand, yet totally clued into the new world brewer scene on the other. For anyone lucky enough to live nearby, it feels like the perfect local.

I like this pub and it's great to have it in Brighton. It's a bit of a secret, its tiny frontage hidden down an unpromising street behind the hotels on the strip. Once inside it's clear this is a pub for people who care about their beer. A chalkboard lists the selection, which is always interesting and often local and always features a stout and a bitter. Plus, in the fridge, a good selection of Continental beers in bottles. The interior is tiny, basically the front and back room of a house, with a bar inbetween. Benches and surprisingly heavy stools with cast iron legs. A little like a traditional pub or even a working man's club. Notably absent: loud music, pub carpet, thai food, endless rows of popular IPAs and lagers. Best on busier nights when the small space pushes the crowd out onto the street. At quieter times, a good place for a chat or a beer at the bar.

Superb. This is an atmospheric little place in the back streets off from the main seafront, very close to several hotels, with an incredible selection of beers on draught and cask. A photo of Des O’Connor adorns the Gents loo door. I have never been close enough to discern who is on the Ladies door (UPDATE: I think it’s Victoria Wood). Toad in the Hole - a pub game involving throwing coins at a chair, supposedly played only in Sussex - is a popular game here. The bar is Dog friendly too. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. The atmosphere is relaxed. It’s also very inclusive. There were lots of groups when I was there on a summer Thursday night, including several all female groups enjoying the beer - it’s clearly a place where people typically feel comfortable to come and enjoy drinking what they want on their own terms. Which brings me back to the quality of the selection - there are occasional tap takeovers, but the variety (usually 3 or 4 cask supplemented by an array of keg styles) from some of the country’s top breweries is what brings people here. Servings are in typically half, 2/3rds and pint depending on strength. Definitely a must visit if you are a beer lover and ever you are in Brighton.

Wednesday night, post gig: Hole in the Wall fully occupied by Hilton guests who had evidently stumbled around the corner for a post conference encampment: “Hey d’ya reckon we can put this round on expenses?” Heart went out to lone barmaid, capable and pleasant but clearly swamped, as well as having to contend with occasionally arrogant queue-jumpers who may have been enjoying something a bit stronger than the booze. Two ‘last orders’ pints of Cloak and Dagger Oatmeal Stout for us, not quite stale but very far from fresh, which was a downer. Too late to change. I heard this place was good, maybe we were unlucky, but it wasn’t good for us this time.

The feeling of a traditional boozer, with an endless range of craft beers, renewed by the minute, service with a smile, and other patrons that are polite and friendly. What else is needed? It's just hidden enough round the side streets that you don't have to fight through normal evening crowds to get to the bar and I was impressed how one person kept the drinks flowing at a decent rate while the owner was relentlessly back and forth to the cellar ensuring when one barrel went a new one came and was updated on the chalk board with the kind of speed a Navy gunner would be proud of.
