Lovely little ambient pub with choice of beers and display of beer mats.

First time back in here in 25 years. Great little pub, great cask selection. It's very quirky and worth a visit.

This is a wonderful, small pub on a back street in Southsea. The interior is dark wood and a tiled floor with a good range of real ales and ciders. There looked to be bar snacks available too. On a warm day the interior was pleasantly cool. I was only passing by and in Portsmouth briefly and so am unlikely to be back which is a pity as this was a lovely place and certainly recommended.

Quite probably the best back street boozer in Portsmouth. Great beer selection on cask and keg. The foreign bottle selection is also good. Great atmosphere and fantastic staff.

Cracking pub with an incredible beer selection. Heaving on Saturday, we visited with many contented ale drinkers.

Took my mates from Somerset on tour of some of Southsea's craft beer place, they were very impressed with this one.

Nice little pub off the main strip in Portsmouth. It serves a selection of great craft beers in regular rotation and I've had zero issues with the quality of the beers. It does get packed so be prepared to stand if you go at a busy time

Lovely pub and people. Favourite pub in the area. Do not leave your bike outside as total scum from neighbouring estates will steal anything even if locked.

Yeah OK No red or brown beer. Brown arriving tomorrow. Had a nice flat Bowman that wasn't too happy but didn't bother to try the rest. Red and brown won't grow and might well be gone before this citrus hype evaporates. Good decor.

This is a superb pub with an excellent range of well kept real and craft ales. Delightful, interesting interior with tons of old pump clips displayed; friendly too 👍

I discovered this pub by accident when looking for somewhere in the area for a pint. It has a great range of cask and keg beers and the lady serving was very knowledge about her beers. Unfortunately we had already eaten so couldn't try the bangers and mash! This felt very much like a local, with a good friendly atmosphere. It has no music or TV, just the buzz of conversation. I will definitely be back for the beer and hopefully the food as well.

If you like a good ale pub, then this is the place to be. Offering a fantastic choice of beers. It is a small pub but makes it more cosy. They offer a sample of the beers for you to taste before you buy. Service is friendly and always happy to advise on what they offer. Highly recommended.

A great pub. Loads of really good beers and a quirky mix of bar snacks (jelly babies and chocolate peanuts and well as crisps!). Lovely and friendly with a sociable atmosphere without any pretentiousness.

Been for the 2nd time in a couple of months at just after 9pm on a Saturday. Told that the pub was "closed" but it was still busy and people still actively ordering at the bar. This is the second time this has happened and gives you the feeling there is a bit a bit of an elitist 'lock-in' crowd there. Very sad as used to like to drop in for an occasional pint. Not a very friendly business model really. At least the Barleymow round the corner is happy to take my money, not question who I am and pour me a decent pint.

Popped in for a pint before eating next door. Service was good and the place is nice. The beer is well kept but my IPA tasted a bit like mouthwash to me. I am sure this was just my personal taste as I enjoy most middle-of-the-road ales.

You're in a conversation and a word surfaces, a vision of a place forms in your mind. A snug place of dark wood, conversational hum. Floor tiles and quiet reprieve from the world's nonsense. Ironically it is a place of talking nonsense. Talking silly stuff and big ideas. Opining and pining for when these places were all around. A place of humans, of humanity. People have been gathering like this for thousands of years. Experiments in chatter and brews. The word is"Pub". And you're now in one, and it's great. A proper, decent pub with good beers on.

Proper pub with good beer. The staff were very friendly and happy to advise on the Beer. We sat outside on the benches and chatted to other visitors. We will definitely be back when visiting my daughter in Portsmouth.

If you just want a quiet pint or a friendly chat with locals without TVs, Pool tables etc then this is the pub for you. A fantastic and well kept range of cask real ales and competitively priced too. If I was to make a complaint, it's the keg beers are a little too cold. Imo the HITW is the best pub in the City.

we visited to sample the ales here, we had been 2 years ago on a recommendation. It was just as good this time, several ales on tap and pump. Not a lager drinkers pub! Well worth a visit.
