Sunday Lunch for 5 as a last minute idea, we decided to go local. Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!

Recently booked a table at The Eagle for a large group on a Saturday evening. Not being local we weren’t sure what to expect, but from the minute we arrived the staff were attentive and welcoming. They took food orders from the younger members of our party first, giving the adults time to ponder (why doesn’t every where do this?!) and were helpful in suggesting tweaks to the menu that would suit each of them individually. The food came out very quickly and the service was very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, I enjoyed my meal immensely and heard only good things from the rest of the group. The portions were so generous!!! The spinach by and filo pie from the specials looked really yummy and I was a bit gutted I hadn’t chosen it, I wish I lived closer as I would definitely visit again and work my way through the rest of the menu! Thank you so much to the staff and kitchen for making a evening a lovely one :)

I don’t like giving poor reviews, particularly when it isn’t entirely down to the actual venue however this is a review on our visit. Ordered a pint of speckled hen ale which when delivered did not taste nice, however not ones to complain we merely ordered a replacement drink. As we were about to leave one of our party used the toilets which they described as ‘not the cleanest’. To be honest if that had been the only issues this review probably wouldn’t have been written however as we were getting on our bikes to leave a couple (who appeared to be locals) found something amusing about our group and were clearly talking and laughing about us. Maybe we hit on a bad night (and rude customers) but not somewhere we would revisit or recommend.

We visited here after a trip to Thetford where the food offer was just chain or deep fried pub food. It was after 2pm so we needed to find an establishment (rare in Norfolk as it turned out on our holiday) that didn't observe the 12-2pm strict dining opportunity! We arrived as the local shoot were departing - this is a real country pub on the outskirts of Thetford Forest. Excellent choice of food and served all day. Friendly welcome. Landlady was lovely and chatty and served a great meal.

Visited Saturday evening on our way to an event at Snetterton. It’s a lovely traditional pub that clearly interacts well with the locals. The range of beers was very good. The food couldn’t be faulted. Top quality and very reasonably priced. The staff were outstanding as well. I don’t visit the area that often but would definitely go there again.

This is what a community pub should be. The landlord and landlady make every effort to bring the community together by sponsoring village events and. Today, my wife and I joined in the conker tournament. There was young children really getting excited at playing in the tournament, and the tropy supplied by the landlord for the winning child was actually one that obviously had cost quite a bit of money and showed the landlords commitment to the community. They are even going to get the winners name engraved on the trophy and the young girl was thrilled.

Came to The Eagle today looking for a dog-friendly pub with some good vegetarian options to cater for a family, and having looked at several pub menus online, The Eagle seemed ideal, with a range of options including a bar and children's menu. However, it became apparent that this was not the case, as it seemed that we were the only ones ordering food and we were surprised to find that there was no menu to order off, the menu just in the form of a blackboard with 7 options including one vegetarian option. Food was not as advertised on the website, as it seemed all freezer food, and some was burnt which was replaced by the barman, but then the replacement was undercooked and chips were inedibly raw. This, coupled with a marginally hostile atmosphere, particularly some criticism of our dogs, made for an unsatisfactory visit, and so we won't be returning to The Eagle in future.

Called in for a pint because it is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, and was pleased to find a choice of 5 cask ales. I chose the Black Sheep, which was pretty good. The service was friendly, if a little reserved and the customers made us feel welcome. The food looked good value, ad it was clear that the place is at the heart of the village as a good local pub should be.

Particularly recommend the Leon Burger, wow. Kids meals fine, and very kid friendly. Didn't feel in the way.Only area for improvement was the gravy provided with the pie could do with being thicker. We ordered our food, and told the ale and beef pie was home made, the special was beer battered cod and chips, when they arrived, the pie was not home made, it was about half an inch thick, and the cod and chips was far from special, the cod was from a supermarket freezer and tasteless! Last night was Aaron and his team of lovely ladies first as a sit-down meal for the twenty four who were lucky enough to get their names down early. Mary-Jane, Rachel, Graham and I were amongst those and, for a first time, words almost fail me!Well, almost! The ambiance created was quite lovely and amazingly spacious... some top-class restaurants could learn a fair bit here! The wine list was extensive and very reasonably priced; we managed two bottles of white and one of red. All very much to our tastes. And then came the food!A plate of garlic bread as "nibbles" to whet our appetites and then the main course: steaks from our local farmer/butcher with a delicious red wine sauce and most appropriate vegetables. The steaks were all cooked exactly to our likings from rare , though medium-rare, to medium....top class, chef! The choice of puddings was inspired; either a Crème Brûlée or a Summer Pudding. Instead of in the normal ceramic pot the Crème Brûlées were in a pastry one. Mary-Jane pronounced her Summer Pudding as 'delicious' and my Crème Brûlée was the best 'pud' I've ever had, anywhere
