Popped in fir a drink last night it was very busy Dirty fries came out very quick and they were incredible. The staff were friendly even though a friend of mine was annoying

This is the best burger I have had in a while!! I had the caramelised onion and goats cheese and it was DELICIOUS. The rest of the meal was simple and tasty, but I would come back just for the burger! The staff were helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

The food portions was large we had chips and coleslaw and one portion between us would gave been plenty. Only downside is they don't take cash which us a shame.

really sucks the write a review like this but it just wasn’t the best… we’ve gone to the hobgoblin before and absolutely loved it… the food has always been great but service really failed us this time. we went at 19:30 ish and it wasn’t massively busy, it seemed like there was only bar man on but he was just so hostile when we came there. there was an empty bag on crisps on the table and my friend brought it up to the bar just too clear it… granted this can be annoying but he snatched it out of his hand and said nothing. when the food came we had waited 35 mins for nachos i understand if the kitchen is busy but the chef came and delivered the food? he was lovely, charming but seemingly nervous which made us think that we had obviously annoyed the bar man to the point of not surving us. it was just a bit of a weird experience. the food was incredible though… and we are so thankful for the chef bringing it.. but can’t help to think the barman could’ve been nicer.

The filthiest toilet in the UK I have ever seen, smelled. Has it ever been cleaned? Orange and black mould around the sinks, toilet door covered in grime and badly damaged/rotten. I hope that the kitchen and bar staff don't use this toilet because the food and drink would be contaminated with disgusting bacteria and who knows what. We decided not to finish our drinks after using the toilet because it made us feel quite sick. It would not be that difficult to make this place a welcoming pub. It just needs a good clean and perhaps public health to take a look.

Really gone downhill. The bar staff do not care. The bars garden is open later than before with people shouting. Glasses are not clean. Really disappointing

Used to love it here but since management has changed it’s gone down hill. Food isn’t as nice as it once was (and it used to be sooo good!) it’s basically an (even more) overpriced honest burger, and service is awful. Lots of blank stares and grunts from the people behind the bar lol also not the cleanest. Overall disappointing.

The Ranch Burger was amazing! Great real ale and barrel glasses! Top class loved it!

The owners of this pub are two of the most industrious and exciting brothers in Bristol right now. Catch them while the portions are larger than they probably should be. But come back once they aren't because that kitchen knows flavour. And yes, there is an outdoor seating area with heating. Long live The Hob!

Great pub with amazing food. My go-to food is the dirty fries and the wings I can't remember the number of times I've gone back to this pub. Just for it. Ambience is good(for a pub standard). Good music

Known for its dirty dirty fries! Though it has had a change of hands the food menu has remained the same. Nice pub and friendly staff. One of the best small pubs in Bristol

After popping out for a wonder down to Gloucester Rd for a tipple or 2 with the better half, me and she delved into the hobgoblin not really knowing whether we fancied a bite to eat but after perusing the menu we were sold. After meeting the 2 chef's in the outside area who promised us a good burger, they disappeared back to the kitchen. We ordered the classic chicken burger and the BB burger and BOY OH BOY, they delivered!! Cooked to perfection and would highly recommend 👌 Much love the food critics! 😉

Second time visiting since change of hands and looks like they are as good as ever. Food was prompt, and delicious. Highly recommend the buffalo blue burger. Service was friendly and professional. Great place to chill out and watch the six nations in a relaxing atmosphere.

Had a nice time at this pub, good choice of drinks and food. Good service, can get pretty busy in Friday and Saturday evenings, but most of the time there is still some seating area free to chill and enjoy your drinks and food.

The dirtiest fries are absolutely delicious and food was amazing. However service was okay and atmosphere was meh.

Visited yesterday for lunch the chicken burger with hot sauce and blue cheese mayo was incredible! The staff are really friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back

Not the Hob any longer. Smelly, dull, dirty glasses and the dirty fries are not dirty fries (sad looking and just bland and oily tasting) Sad to say we won’t visit again after so many years of great memories

Delicious burgers and food, although it does have limited seating options so would recommend to book early. We typically book a week or two in advance to ensure we get our prefered time. The burgers are great and exploding with flavour, and the chips are yum too. One of those places that you know they're good because they only do one type of food. Can feel a bit like a drinkers pub at times, with the staff being pleasant but lacking a bit of incentiveness.

Great pub with the dirtiest fries! Hobgoblin is a great pub to go for a drink with friends, always lively with good atmosphere. Always get the dirty fries, absolute beast of a portion, definitely a 2 person job and SO filling and so tasty. First time trying one the burgers on the menu, whilst it was good and I can have no complaints I would probably only get the dirty fries in future. The atmosphere is always good but it has to be said last time I was there the music was just too loud, not normally a huge deal but when you're with friends trying to have a chat it can be tricky! I gave the service a 3 out of 5, this is based only on my last visit, usually it is better. It just seemed to take so long for food to come out even though it wasn't busy, when it did we then had to wait for cutlery to come out, also my friends order was wrong so they had to wait even longer for their food! Staff were all friendly and have no complaints in that respect at all. Definitely would recommend and will definitely be going back!

Been a regular of this pub for years. Unfortunately a visit for a birthday celebration on Tuesday was very disappointing due to bad bar service, dirty glasses and tables along with the overall vibe and lack of decoration, leaving the pub with no identity. Bar staff were not engaged or attentive to basic bar staff standards and worked in chaos and utter mess. The food was good, we all had special number 4’s and no complaints. It felt like the demise of a once vibrant and lively Glossy road pub.

Food here is good and good value, but we waited for over an hour and the overall service was pretty poor.

The food qualiy is awful and as the reigster says, they have a 1 star food rating they are hiding.

Shocking, Burgers overpriced, dry and bland, Dirty Fries still good but not enough pulled pork for the price. Staff stood around the bar eating and drinking, not professional Used to be great but since new management has gone down hill.

It pains me to only give three stars as this is one of my favourite places in Bristol from my time as a student there. However, when visiting recently it just didn't seem the same. The staff weren't particularly friendly and they were out of pulled pork which meant the dirty dirty fries (the main selling point) were not massively enjoyable. Had some chicken wings which were good but overall probably not worth the walk up Gloucester Road. Maybe came on a bad day but not sure I would return on my next visit given the huge amount of places to eat in Bristol.

Lovely pub, the food is delicious, I go here regularly - i would recommend the dirty dirty fries. Nice staff and good pints too! **edit- I went back here this weekend as I always do when I’m back in Bristol, the person behind the bar was so rude and clearly didn’t want to be there. They were out of pulled pork at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon so dirty fries weren’t the same but still nice. The chicken wings were delicious! Usually I’d have been happy to spend a rainy afternoon relaxing and drinking here but it smelt of bleach and I felt uncomfortable around the staff so was very ready to move on elsewhere once we’d eaten**

Used to be a massive Fan of the Hob, dirty dirty fries, nachos and wings. Recently seems to have lost some of the atmosphere and the food just isn't what it used to be. They seem to be out of most things and were out of all soft drinks! Shame really, hopefully it can improve, maybe will go back in 6 months.

Amazing fast service, bar staff very attentive. Food was above average for places down this road, to be honest, I would say that the dirty fries were better than before. the kitchen staff even came out and spoke to us about allergens, Ollie and Allie. would recommend !!

First time in a while visiting. Food was good, pleased to see the menu hadn't changed. Had run out of goats cheese and lots of the lines were off for a Saturday night but still a good selection. Music at one point was turned up so loudly we ended up moving tables away from the speaker and this was at 7pm, the entire restaurant couldn't hear each other and bar staff didn't seem to notice until somebody went up to complain. Attention to detail in running out of cutlery and napkins needs to be worked on and the fact not everyone on our table got the standard sauce pots with the burgers.

Hobgoblin just isn't the same now the new management took over. The dirty fries are pretty bad in comparison to how they used to be. Such a shame!!!!

Sadly the hobgoblin has taken a turn for the worst! The food try pray was terrible! Burnt, over cooked, stupidly salty and the quality in the foods are are terrible. Simple things like condiments, you had an array of top quality options before change of management, you’ve now gone with cheap sachets. The option of fries or coleslaw was great before but I wasn’t asked today for the option, I’m guessing it’s gone as well. Fries where terrible may I add. The nachos tasted cheap the pulled pork was nice but the chips tasted like tesco own brand rubbish. The hobgoblin was one of the best burger joints in Bristol in my opinion, I’m not sure why you’d change up something that worked so well. Im not sure I’ll be going back again after todays meal the new management needs to think about a few things. More attention to detail and care in what you’re delivering.

I have been to the hob goblin a few times to really give this place a go as it used to be a fan favourite but the last three times have been exactly the same HORRENDOUS. It’s so disappointing the main points are as follows. Un attentive and un interested staff. Getting orders wrong even when the restaurant is dead Incredibly overpriced Poor quality food and terribly cooked Dirty tables No food checks again proving un attentive No napkins and just being thrusted a handful of blue roll Music on and off different volumes Uncertainty on wether on not they closed and management issues. I’m sorry but personally I would not recommend. The place needs an overhaul

Omg, can’t believe I just got barred from this pub for pointing out how dirty my glass was. Apparently, I shouldn’t ‘complain to a 20 year old’. Waiting time at the bar was long, dirty tables, disgusting toilets (swimming with wee, no toilet paper) and just general filth. When I complained to the bar staff she shouted at me I was barred, which is fine as I would never set a foot in the place again.

AVOID!!! I used to absolutely love this place but since it has been under new management, I would never go near it again. They seem to have sacked all the lovely staff memebers and replaced them with incompetent idiots. They had barely any food or drinks left, which seems to be an ongoing issue (according to friends who have visited before and after me). Such a shame as it used to be so amazing.

The Hobgoblin has recently undergone new management. Historically, it was one of the staples of Bristol that I would show off if I were introducing new friends to the city. However, upon entering the pub, it's almost a complete shell of its former self. The pictures, lights, and paintings have been stripped from the walls. Half of the taps were out of service and notable amounts of the food (specifically, dirty, dirty fries) were missing from the menu. It's a depressing state of affairs, but the new management really need to up their game or they're not going to be able to sustain this level of disappointment with the Hobgoblin's customer base. Perhaps more so, my partner and I visited early on a Saturday evening, when the pub should be adequately supplied in preparation for what is sure to be a busy night.

On arrival more than half the beers were ‘off’. We ordered food for two that took over an hour to come and the pub was not busy. The burger was good but the chips were nasty tiny frozen ones. All the condiments were in plastic or paper sachets which is very wasteful. Lastly, there was cleaning equipment and tins of cooking oil stacked in the bar area. Mainly easy fixes in the staff/management care about keeping the business going.

Came here for some drinks and some food. The table was booked for 20:30. It seems like turned up, for food that we told them we were coming to eat was a massive inconvenience. I appreciate that there were 8 of us. But the food took an hour to arrive. The chips, with the burgers, were cold. To be fair, they did give us some more - but we shouldn't have had to complain in the first place. The burger was nice and my mates enjoyed their wings. The beer was good too. But the speed and quality of the food let them down.

Booked a table for four and waited over an hour for burgers and fries. Fries were non edible. No napkins or cutlery. Short staff were drinking behind the bar. Establishment was hot, over crowded and loud. Don't eat here. Definitely more of a drinking pub. If you do eat here, don't book on the weekend.

I little bit disappointed with the set up under the new management, food took about two hours to come out and felt like they were using cheaper ingredients, but still advertising it as the same and charging the same price for the food. we absolutely love this place and I hope it’s just teething problems under the new management, really hope it restores its former glory!

Great atmosphere but not very good food. Burgers were burnt and the chips were drowned in salt. Good for just a beer.

Prices in the menu are not updated, it shows different prices to the prices charged, ordered a VG burger plant based patty and I was served a vegetable burger even cheaper with any notice and refund, first experience at this bar and never again

Love the Hobgoblin. Great food, beer selection could be better but I'm very happy with what they have. It gets pretty full so I'd recommend getting there early.

I want so much more from this pub.

The Hob is still open…..Hooray. Change of owners but many of the fantastic staff remain. Lovely food as always and great staff.

Best food and place to eat I've ever been

The best and dirtiest fries in Bristol!

Came here for my son's birthday in December, the food and atmosphere was fantastic. But I heard today that they are closing this weekend and I'm gutted that I haven't been able to make it there for another visit. It's such a shame to lose yet another lovely business. Good luck to all in whatever the future holds for you.

Vegan burgers were banging, but the oven chips were a let down. Atmosphere could do with a few less flies buzzing around the place.

This a nice corner pub, situated in the area of Stokes Croft. Good selection of drinks & food menu is simple but done extremely well. Great plan to hang out with friends, small and large groups.

I’m very pleased to say this a safe space for non binary people. I was horrified when a customer misgendered an other customer and a staff member, but I’m pleased to announce that after this they were refused drinks and, when he refused to leave a member of staff bravely rang the police right in front of him! The police arived in 20 minutes and removed him straight away. Well done to all the staf at the hobsgoblin that had to endure this tense situation, Use our pro nouns or stay away.

Great pint & Great service. Definitely will be back for one of their famous 10/10 burgers. Stopped in for a pint after picking up some food. Got chatting to Ross at the bar, what a sound Geezer he is mind. Lovely spot this is, Appy days. Will be back

This place is overrated. Had to wait almost an hour even for starters and the burgers are not worth it. Burgers were dry and over cooked. Place was too loud and very hot on sunny days. Not a family restaurant and the staff were rude when I asked if we could get the kid’s order soon. The waitress said “ it’ll come whenever it’s ready”. Not worth the price!

Overpriced and full of shooty men.

Fantastic food - great choice of beer - this is one of mine and partner’s favourite places to eat. The loaded fries are AMAZING - the buffalo blue burger is the best chicken burger I have ever had! Highly recommend this place!

Great burger and fries. This is very busy so don't expect the food to be quick, but it's worth the wait. Staff are efficient and friendly, and really good at controlling a very hectic environment, making sure that all reservations are possible. You will probably need a reservation!

Really disappointed with our service unfortunately. Ordered food, 1.5hrs later nothing arrived. We called 2 members of staff over during this time to confirm allergies with the food we ordered and have a friendly banter about eating here for the first time - all fine...

They were very busy and we had to wait an hour for food. My chicken burger came out cremated and i could not eat it. They were not able to give me a new one so refunded with no quibbles. Another of our group had a burger that was also burnt but they were starving and ate it anyway. Nice environment and very friendly staff.

Lovely pub and great food, but the staff aren't great. Twenty minutes to get served last weekend, all our group had similar waits. Staff just wandered around, chatting to staff who were on their break but sat at the bar.
