Really good Sunday roasts. They are massive so be careful ordering additional sides... I ain't a small fella but only just got through my meal. Cool place in a cool area.

Enjoyed a lunch here with friends, would definitely recommend.

We brought some friends here for lunch on Saturday from the Isle of Man. The food was excellent, we were all delighted with our meals. My only observation was that whilst mine host was welcoming and helpful at the bar, the other members of staff seemed somewhat detached when they had to serve drinks. However, l would go there again very happily, but a warm welcome would be appreciated.

Great restaurant, good selection of food, it's not just sausages. We all ate really well, the dessert was particularly impressive. The service was friendly and quick.

We visited as a large group for a meal and were very impressed, particularly with the tasty food and a range of sausage! The service wasn’t rapid, but was very attentive and reasonable quick for such a large group. There were 2 young children with the party and these were well-catered for and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend the sausage tasting plate for first time visitors and the nibbles and sharers were excellent too!

Very friendly atmosphere as the staff, always checking if I was alright 🥰 Service: I had to wait 30 Min to get served, they said they were busy with big tables downstairs. Maybe bringing some bread or quick appetizers for the wait would have been perfect. Still give them 5 stars as they had to deal with some "interesting" costumers at some point Free WiFi (~8mbps) Food was really good as The quantity!!!! Didn't know Sausages could taste this amazing! If you want something really truly British and you're in the area, make sure to come here! Well worth it. Also, everybody working here was lovely especially our server, Leisha. Makes you feel right at home.

Moved inside and ordered and everything was excellent - especially the chicken skewers and pork belly. Excellent Ashton Press cider on draft too! Would definitely return when next in Bristol.

We were walk ins on a fairly busy Friday night. However, the staff accommodated us. The food was incredible, flavours amazing and presentation fantastic. The only thing that let it down was the cleanliness of the restrooms. The soap dispensers were filthy, and the soap in the disabled toilet looked mouldy. It needed attention in corners that hadn't been cleaned for some time

Fab sausages, gf options, didn't know it was what we wanted for lunch, but it was 👍👍👍

I was slightly disappointed with the sausages, though at a table of 15, I was the only person who wasn't impressed so might be me. The mash was perfect and the best commercial peas I've ever had

Best sausage and mash I've had in England (many visits as my husband is English). Friendly service, local gins and a sticky toffee pudding I took 1/2 of 😋 (also not normal for me).

Simon, the owner, hosts a monthly wine tasting where he uses his knowledge and that of local independent wine merchants, to provide an evening of paired wines and food. We attended the Summer Barbecue evening where 5 wines were paired with 5 courses. The food was beautifully prepared and the wines explained expertly. A casual evening with a great atmosphere.

We stumbled across this place and decided to give it a go, and boy, am I glad we did! I opted for the vegan sausage, which was a total game-changer. Made with spicy chickpeas and roasted peppers, it was served with a creamy olive oil mash and a rich vegan gravy. Honestly, I was blown away by how good it was! This place is perfect if you’re looking for a meat-free alternative that actually tastes amazing. It’s a great starting point for anyone wanting to explore vegan or vegetarian British cuisine. The restaurant itself had a really nice vibe – minimalist and friendly, with a touch of elegance. It matched the food perfectly.

The food and service were great. . The bill included a 10% optional gratuity. It's not optional if it's already been added to the bill. This is poor practice. I would have been too embarrassed to ask for it to be removed in front of friends - as it was I paid quickly without noting the 10%. Also, this made a pint of beer £5.28, which feels too much to me. I suppose it's still reasonable against the prices some other Clifton establishments charge, but I prefer to pay a tip separately.

Belly pork was amazing but the burger was really poor unfortunately.........we went in early so they might not of been in full swing but really disappointing considering all the reviews we had read previously

Great location, friendly service and tasty food. The prawn starters were UNREAL - Wish I had more. I really liked the fact they served different flavours of sausages that I've never thought of. No problems at all from my side, I will be coming back and recommending to other people.

Super food, lovely place, really friendly service. Best pork and chorizo sausages and champ (mash plus spring onion) I've ever tasted. We spoke to a lovely Polish lady after our meal who I think may have been the owner. She spent some time with us and made us feel really valued, rather than just being a group of tourists. Would highly recommend.

I was just here. I ordered starters and main & My starter was chicken tikka skewer. Let’s just say before my main was even prepared I had left. The starter was completely raw in the middle and I was disgusted. I feel sick on my way home and the only thing they offered was to take it off the bill.

Popped in one afternoon mid-week and received a very warm welcome by Sabrina (?). Lovely place with wooden tables. Menu looked interesting with a few classics, but the star was clearly the sausage. Shared a deep fried squid starter which was superb. Never had squid so tender and the batter was very tasty, too. My partner had the daily special black pudding mash and black pudding sausages. I went for champ and pork, leek, stilton sausages. Both dishes excellent. Puts bangers and mash to a whole new level! Very high quality bangers, lovely creamy mash and the gravy was almost black and full of flavour. Banging!!! (No pun intended 😜) Desserts didn't disappoint either so we left stuffed and happy.

Pack an appetite and have the ribs. Never been unable to finish before.

Got the recommendation from my friend. Finally got the chance to try. BEST PORK BELLY BITE EVER! Crispy outside and tender inside, and fat near the skin is soooo chewy and glutinous! Soup of the day full of fresh vegetables flavors. Bread is a dry though, but with soup is fine. We ordered the plate to test all the kinds. To me the best is the lamb with apricot and mint. The combination is just right, fat lamb with fresh herbs and fruity fruit pree. The beef burger is good. The salad, well, no fancy stuff but just very fresh and will be a good salad.

We decided to go to The Clifton Sausage for my wife's birthday. I booked the table in advance as it's a popular place in Clifton. A warm welcome from the staff , showed our table but the table was set only for 1 person even though I booked it for two. It was our first time so had to get some suggestions from the staff and recommendations was good. We had one lamb and pork sausage which was good. We also ordered some sides but red cabbage wasn't great. It was salty and tangy which was not enjoyable. However the main meal was delicious and portions were big. The sausages were cooked really well and it was delicious and juicy. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and it was fresh and delicious. Overall, it's a good place. Service could have been better.

🍖 & 🥔! A nice wee place in Clifton Village that does sausage and mash well. Fair starters, the fried whitebait and pork belly bites were both excellent. For mains, I opted for the Clifton sausage (what else!) and champ mash, which was delicious. The calves liver (which is not really my thing) was also pretty good!

Fabulous evening. Great food and atmosphere with super friendly team. Call out to Sabrina - what an asset! She is the best example of how you run a restaurant! We recommend the Toad in the hole - don't order one each!!!!

My second visit , every bit as good as my first . Very welcoming staff , great food , nice wine . I had beef and ale sausages , mash , gravy and broccoli and two glasses of Malbec . I refused the dessert menu I couldn’t eat another thing . My meal was perfect .

We chose the The Clifton Sausage for a family gathering to celebrate my wifes 50th A very warm welcome from the staff on duty , shown our table and left alone while we all did the family meet and greet after months apart . No rush, no pressure , just good staff knowing how treat a customer. Drinks and snacks ordered and quickly served , kept us going until the main courses arrived . ,.... Wow . The highest quality local produce, cooked to perfection . Simple food that really does let the flavour do the talking . Got to say that the two female staff on duty were brilliant . Chatty, engaging and keen to ensure we had the best time in their restaurant . They are the first contact for the customer and are a credit to you .

Looking for somewhere a little different for dinner I stumbled on this restaurant and decided to give it a go. And I'm glad I did! The place is lovely inside, and the staff were friendly and efficient. I ordered sweet roasted ribs as a starter, and they were fantastic... Cooked to perfection, succulent, sweet and slightly spicy, and the meat just fell off the bone. For the main course I had pork and stilton sausages on a bed of champ (potatoes and spring onions) with onion gravy. The sausages were of very high quality, tasted amazing, and the mash was creamy. The onion gravy was the perfect accompaniment too. For dessert I had a brownie with ice cream, which was a nice way to end the meal. I went on a Sunday, so this meal was the three course "Sunday lunch" offer, and it was honestly great value for money. Definitely somewhere I'd go again!

If you like sausages: this is the place. We had reservations so unsure if you could “walk in”. Good menu which does include other options to sausages. Starters, sharing plates if wanted. I ordered the Clifton sausage taster with chump mash, rich onion gravy and a side of braised red cabbage. Delicious sausages, super creamy mash: chump is mash with spring onion in it. The gravy is rich, oniony and tasty. Everything was delicious, we were a table of 6 and everyone loved the food.

Excellent, professional service & tasty food. We went to the restaurant for a family meal to celebrate a birthday, unfortunately our table was next to a big & very noisy group so a few of our party were unable to join in our conversation. A quiet word with a waitress & despite the restaurant looking full, she re-seated us immediately without fuss. As a result we were able to chat & have a really enjoyable meal. Tasty, filling food & a pleasant atmosphere made this a very enjoyable experience. We are grateful for the quietly professional way they handled the situation.

Needs a facelift. Depressing and dingy sat in the back. Pigs in blankets were somewhat dry.

Excellent quality sausages and mash!

One of my favourites in Clifton. As you’d hope, the sausage here is amazing, there’s a great selection and all of them are amazing. Not only that, but the other non-sausage dishes are great too, the pork belly is one of, if not, the best around and is definitely worth it if you don’t fancy a sausage. The fishcake starter was also incredible, and most places would consider it a main, so I would plan for a smaller main if going for this! Cant go wrong visiting here for dinner! Would 100% recommend!

We booked for early on a Sunday evening with a plan to have one of their roasts. What a great plan. So great to see a venue using sirloin instead of topside for their beef roasts as it is so much better. One of the best roast dinners I have had for a very long time. Served with roast potatoes, carrot puree, Yorkshire pudding & gravy with red cabbage and greens served separately. Cauliflower cheese was an extra £4.50 (understandably as it is costly), and was equally delicious. Two courses £24.50 including a fabulous sticky toffee pudding. Great value for the quality and that part of Bristol. Great wine list too with many options available by the glass and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

I've been here a few times, but this was the first time for a Sundsy Roast. I had th combo meats. Wow, beautiful, large portions and very tasty. Staff were really welcoming and friendly, very friendly, low-key atmosphere. Definitely will go back with my mum as they do have good gluten-free options.

The service here was abysmal. It took 45 minutes for starters to arrive and our enquiry was met with a lame ‘we are busy’. When the starters did arrive, they were plonked in the middle of the table until we suggested that the server place the meal in front of the person who ordered it. A few of us ordered the beetroot, Brie and walnut salad - which aside from a one centimetre piece of Brie skin, was lacking in any actual Brie! Then came the clearing of the plates, with servers stacking dirty plates one on top of another at various family members place setting. A further wait of 30 minutes for the main courses to arrive ensued and a further discussion with the servers about timing was met with little interest. When the main meals did arrive they were hot and most reached expected standards, however those that ordered roasts did not receive some of the accompanying side dishes and it was only when we asked where they were that we were informed they didn’t have them and they’ve served the meals with a puree instead….not very similar to the missing roasted honey glazed carrots and baby corn! Whilst the restaurant took off the cost of coffees at the end, the whole evening was marred by a serving team who had little concept of customer service or basic waiting skills and a manager who wasn’t fulfilling the brief of the job title. Thoroughly disappointing and we definitely won’t ever return.

An okay roast but nothing special, the veg that came with it was particularly disappointing and I’d expect a lot more for £20+ a meal. Whole restaurant was absolutely rammed which made us feel a bit crammed and claustrophobic, can’t imagine I’d be back in a hurry

Dinner for two £52 (pretty decent) 2x mains, 2x sides, 1x glass of wine Both sets of sausages tasted the same?! We requested champ and mash of the day - didnt get either, just plain mash The waitress sat us down and immediately asked for our food order. Then bought the wine and then asked immediately again for our food order (twice within 6 minutes of walking in). That's poor. Once ordered we waited 38 minutes for mains (sausage and mash....in a place that just does sausage and mash....) seemed like quite the wait given the rush from the waitress When she collected the plates she accidentally knocked a mustard covered knife over my trousers. Accidents happen but was due to her rushing. She then bought the incorrect bill over and took ages to come back. Atmosphere - was busy, which was great to see and most tables taken. Downside, a table of two was sat inbtween to tables of six in both instances loud drunk/drinking parties. Spoiled it. Was excited to go back here for the first time in years. Will be several more years before I return after this experience.

A well established restaurant serving lots of meaty products! Great sausages and all things pork! I was in a group of work colleagues and they accommodated us without any issue. Very tasty food and excellent service

Quite a disappointing experience. The waiter messed up our order for the Sunday roast and since they put through sausages instead of the trio roast I asked if we could please get free pigs in the blanket for the mess up (as that’s why I originally order it for) to which the waiter rudely said ‘are you asking for free food?’ instead of apologising for messing up our order (at this point we had already waited over 50 minutes for our food). If you order with a group by the time you ask them to re-correct the order everyone has finished eating or everyone’s food has gone cold so we just took what they gave us rather than waste what was cooked. Then they neglected to bring out the vegetables that came with it on the side which then came out by the time we had almost finished our meal. They offerent to take the sausages off the bill which we appreciated but then tried to overcharge us with the bill with the deserts rather then put them in the 2x course charge! It is a shame because the food was tasty but we got no apology at all and just snarky staff. Won’t be coming back again

Amazingly good! Horseradish mash is to die for! Service was excellent, we asked to move from a noisey area...nothing was too much trouble, everyone was kind and thoughtful. Wish I lived nearer, I'd be there all the time.

Visited tonight.good was good but service was quite poor. Three young waitresses chatting rather than concentrating on what they should be doing. Not much of a welcome. It was pretty empty when we were there at 7.30 so no excuse for poor service. Food was excellent.

Visited here last week for valentines. The food took a little longer to come out, but was fantastic and a good portion size for the main. My only criticism was that the starter of soup only came with one tiny piece of bread. Nevertheless, I will be coming back again hopefully with more bread being served! Customer service was also very professional and friendly.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon, luckily we booked in advance because they were turning people away because it was full. The food exceeded expectations (pork/leek/stilton & mash of the day, old spot as toad-i-t-hole with champ). The service was excellent, the still cider was lovely, and the sausages themselves were possibly the best I've had. We will certainly visit again next time we're in Clifton.

Nice food. Pricey. Wouldn't have minded, but they add an 'optional' gratuity to the bill without even asking first (i.e. offering the option). Other reviews say same. Bound to antagonise! Service was actually good, and may well have given the tip anyway.

Went for a family meal here. Initially our waitress was very helpful and friendly. She was hard working. The food we ordered was tasty and plentiful. Ironically though, after commenting how well the young children with us were a credit to us as they were very well behaved she had an argument with the chef and swore extremely loud (f**k off) in front of our children. We were all very shocked! She wasn't the only waitress swearing either. This is highly unprofessional. Something you wouldn't expect in a low budget diner let alone a higher level restaurant. We as a family will not be returning.

Lovely service to start, within 20 minutes one of the young waitresses was swearing to her colleague “it’s f”king busy, this is stressful” my young children were there and could hear everything! Our waitress attended to our table also then shouted “f””k off” across the room and that’s when I complained to another member of staff. Apart from taking £65 off our bill for the disgusting language and attitude from more than 1 waitress, the service was poor. Food was lovely and the girl who was buffing the cutlery (Asian girl with long hair) was lovely and friendly.

Second time having a meal here and it's always perfect. Food is excellent, and the service even better. We bring our dog along and they're always so accommodating, bringing him water and biscuits (and cuddles)!

Good honest British fare done very well. A must if you like bangers. Service was great. Had a few order hiccups but dealt with brilliantly. Recommended.

Firstly we were put at a horrible table opposite the serving hatch and kitchen entrance and next to the toilets. Horrible atmosphere here. We had two lovely servers a young lady and young gentleman. They were very attentive, polite and friendly. You could see they were busy but doing a great job. The female manager came across extremely rude and literally reprimanded our two servers right next to our table. We could hear everything and the two young servers looked quite deflated. I think it is highly unprofessional as a manager to reprimand staff in front of customers and I have worked in the trade. Also if unhappy choose a quieter time as an opportunity to train your staff to your expectations, don’t just shout at them. This is the worst management technique! The food was ok. I haven’t been to Clifton Sausage for a few years and quite frankly I was really disappointed with this visit. Bad table, mediocre food, stressed management with a power complex. I won’t be rushing to go back.

Myself and family booked for a Christmas birthday treat and was very well welcomed by the lovely staff, the food and dessert was amazing! Honestly the best roast dinner I’ve ever ate 10/10 the service was amazing too so thank you very much. My first time eating here and I will definitely be back

Fabulous Sunday lunch. Really delicious Sunday lunch. I had turkey, pork and beef and 3 were cooking to perfection. Plenty of veg too. Opted for additional cauliflower cheese to share and we were disappointed ( easily enough for 2 in one portion). My friend couldn't eat all her pork belly (lightweight ha ha) and so our waiter (lovely young chap) packed it up into a doggy bag for her. Would highly recommend.

We booked ,here on arrival a young man came to us we asked to be moved as our seats were near the door he was so polite and moved us pronto,the meals we had were absolutely tip top,staff were very friendly,the place is very homely,and as it was very busy,we were tended to adequately can't wait until we visit again

The perfect winter warmer on a wet day! On route home from Airport and couldn't have picked a better spontaneous place to eat dinner.. Service, warn and friendly and informative. We sat tucked away in a little nook so nice for privacy. Great selection of sausages, the special was amazing with champ and perfect onion gravey.. couldnt fit in anything else, though we will return in the future to try another dish.. red cabbage side was beautiful! Recommend for any occasion.

I've tried the slow roast belly dish twice with different sides and it is always fabulous. Also the duck and the parsnips crisps are delicious. The gravy sauce is something amazing! Highly recommended.

Feedback on recent visit New years Eve. We were allocated the most awful table which felt like a broom cupboard in the corner of the restaurant so it didn't feel like a good start. We all ordered the trio of sausages as our main and unfortunately one of my sausages was uncooked raw and for what should of been a dish cooked to perfection it was not. Overall not a good experience at the Clifton Sausage.

What a gem of a place. Wholesome, warming British cuisine at its best (and simplest, with some flourishes like tasty mash flavours). Great add-ons too (add a Yorkshire pudding to your meal and turn your sausage and mash into a “toad in the hole”). Lovely, personable and attentive service too. Look forward to going back.

We went for a Christmas party. The food was poor I ended up not eating at all the potatoes were like rubber and the turkey was dry. The food was covered and I mean covered in cranberry sauce that I didn't ask for or have the option to remove. The pig in blanket was tasty but not spectacular as it should for a sausage restaurant. A colleague of mine had the sausage dish and did say it was nice so I will go back and I will try the sausages and update my review if needed.

This is a proper restaurant with a passion for sausages. We managed to book a table and went on a very cold night. Yes there was a cold draught every time the door was opened, but it's winter. The staff were really lovely and there was a great menu of sausages - and other English food. It was great value for money too. A real treat.

What a wonderful cosy evening that was. When we first arrived we were seated at a table right next to the bar and could hardly hear each other talk over the noise from the rabble at the bar, however after we asked to be be moved we were re-seated at the most perfect table over in a corner, nice a quiet and cosy. The food and drink that followed were delicious and the service was fantastic. Would highly recommend this lovely place.

Very disappointing, service was slow, and it was cold where we were seated. Food took an hour to arrive and was cold. This is the last time that we will book the restaurant.

Cold....damp and tired is how I'd describe Clifton Sausage. The food was pretty average too in all honesty. I wouldn't rush back put it that way.

Good quality food and lots of choice. We had the sausage tasting platter for our main which came with mash and gravy. The portions are on the large size so in the future we would pass on the starters. Service was very friendly but staff could have made more effort to check back in to see if we wanted to order more drinks etc, we had to flag them down constantly to ask.
