The HiVe Cafe in Weymouth and Portland

We came to the Hive Cafe after it was recommended to us by a family member before lockdown. When walked to the cafe it seemed very busy. Advised it was outdoor seating but what we actually found was a handful of outdoor seats and a lot of marquee/enclosed gazebo seating. The cafe had placed seating/picnic bench outside the main door one way system and people sat there with no masks on. They were unavoidable because this was the only way in! So couldn’t socially distance. The staff did not wear masks!! They were going from table to table serving customers and not washing their hands between them. It was shocking! The cafe said they were adhering to COVID precaution guidelines but this seemed to be a tick box exercise. We decided to go for take away to avoid this awful situation.Their menu is massively over priced - £18 for a large fish and chips which was no bigger than the kids portion of fish and chips and this was greatly over priced too!! The food was tasty but not worth the money or the risk.Never eat here again!

This was our last eatery to visit before we sadly left the area for home. Friendly, accomodating staff. Good range of food choices. Left happy with full tummies before the long drive home.

I had a vegetarian sausage plait roast dinner. It was lovely. I thoroughly recommend this cafe. If you want to visit for a roast dinner on a sunday I think you need to book. My friend had the cauliflower cheese which was gluten free and she said it was lovely.

Good selection of delicious local food ,crab ,lobster particularly good, a great place for brunch or dinner good all rounder would recommend

Amazing place, warm and welcoming. Friendly staff and the most delicious food. It was wonderful to find a place where I had so much gluten and dairy free choice. Will definitely be returning. I can't believe I have never found it before.

We visited on a Sunday and had a choice of Roast options and several other delicious meals. I had falafel- lovely, and my Husband had a roast with Broccoli/ Cauliflower Cheese. It all looked beautiful fresh and tasted wonderful. There was a great selection of cakes too. I recommend booking as they were full.

Visited The Hive for lunch today and were blown away by the quality of the food! I had the Mezze platter and my partner had the veggie burger. Both were large portions and extremely tasty. There was a large selection of sweet treats which we couldn’t leave without testing too. The Dorset apple cake and honey cake (made with their own honey) were divine. Lovely formerly staff. This is a fantastic little cafe which we will definitely be returning to.

We visited here for the first time. We had the soup butternut squash & sweet potato (lush) , their own Vegetarian Burger (great) & a white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake yum yum.The cordial was a bit overpriced at £1.80 but the food and service were excellent, well worth a visit

Was looking for somewhere healthy and tasty for a bite of lunch in Weymouth and this place did not disappoint. Delicious home cooked vegetarian food, with many different options. Absolutely stunning deserts too. Can’t rate this place highly enough, and the outside courtyard is an added bonus.

Love this cafe.There is vegetarian and vegan places to eat and then there is The Hive...The taste of the ingredients enhanced by wonderful seasoning and dressing made with honey from the owners own bees, heavenly..My daughter went on a rainy day and the place was full and brimming over.We both had the flafels which came with a rainbow of different salads, accompanied by herbal teas.We were greated with a smile and the teamwork was very evident.

Popped in for lunch with a friend. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. I had the mezze with quiche and it was very tasty and huge! Sat in the sunny garden. Will definitely go again with my partner who is a coeliac because there is plenty he can eat.

Looked all over Weymouth for a Cafe that served afternoon tea with Dairy Free Cakes and was recommended the HiVe - Wow what a find. I had a Chocolate Slice and my Friend a Cheesecake and both were delicious We sat in the lovely courtyard to enjoy our tea in the sun. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn't help looking at the delicious meals being served to other people it was so nicely presented but we were half board in our hotel so couldn't take advantage of it. Will definately pay a visit when next in Weymouth

First time trying this place, have read the positive reviews on this gem and thought we would give it a try. We love meat but it is always nice to have some vegetables from time to time and this place is just great for that. Food is very good and staff are very friendly. Will highly recommend to friends and family.

Tucked in a back street near the harbour with a sweet little courtyard garden at the rear, this cafe offers a range of tasty vegetarian/vegan lunch options and delicious homemade cakes. The coffee and chocolate brownie was truly delicious! Highly recommended for a relaxed lunch or afternoon coffee and cake. The staff were friendly and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Found this place after looking on trip advisor - not sure we would have found it otherwise as it’s not very obvious it’s there! I had the special which was hallumi salad. It had honeyed walnuts in and also pear it was unreal. They make there own honey and put a bottle of there home made honey mustard dressing on the table - so good!! Would highly recommend this place

Everything was just perfect. A wonderful local find for an evening meal. Our food was full of lovely flavours and such a great friendly atmosphere.

Went in ofr lunch based on google and trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. My husband had excellent filling burrito and I had veggie meze - light and fresh. then had one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had - awesome portion too!

This was a really great find confirming previous Trip Advisor comments. Not the sort of place you would normally find if you did not know where to go in Weymouth. Had a great light lunch, service was quick and friendly, food very good and they handled gluten free effortlessly. Thanks.

Based on TripAdvisor comments we went to The HiVe cafe. Did not regret! Pure authentic food and very friendly service. We sat outside in the small courtyard surrounded by beautiful flowers. On the table: Mezze plate and falafel. Both delicious! We would definitely go back!

A healthy gem in Weymouth. Small, cute, friendly veggie-leaning café with some outside seats. Pay first and they bring it.

Tucked away in a quiet spot, but within a stone's throw of the bustling seafront is this absolute gem! Four of us had a very warm welcome; we chose to sit inside in the cool, but there is a gorgeous little suntrap of a garden if you prefer.

Just such a lovely quirky veggie/vegan independent, my boyfriend and I shared the beekeepers lunch with the most delicious fresh food, Brie and blue cheese. We said it felt like the first real food we’d had in ages. The garden was beautiful, brim full of pollinator flowers. Everything was spot on, even the black filter coffee which is often the downfall of a cafe! The owners have some ethical bee hives nearby and and so we bought a jar of their local honey. On leaving we couldn’t resist having a slice of lemon tart in a box for the road- but truth be told we made it about 30m down the road before going at it in the street. Thank you!

Think vegetarian, add Mediterranean, and add a honoured perfectly laid out place including a few outdoor tables and you have the hive. They make lovely food, including fine cakes and great coffee- with gluten and dairy free options easy to find. Friendly too, and perfect for the family. I will surely be back.

Found this from trip advisor reviews. It’s not on the Main Street and I needed google maps to get there. It was worth the effort. A kind of Mediterranean menu not a greasy spoon cafe. We ordered the falafel platter and cheese platter. Both were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. A great selection of accompliments. Reasonably priced, would return again if in the area. We came across this cafe by accident,what a gem the food was fab ,the chocolate and orange cheescake to die for and it was gluton free,the vegan chilli was amazing and to top it all the staff were lovely and so welcoming,if you get chance please try this lovely little cafe you wont regret it .

We had lunch here on our family weekend getaway. It's an excellent place for vegetarians and vegans with great variety and refreshingly good food. The owners are super helpful and friendly. It's a small place and can get quite busy so better to book ahead. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Weymouth.

My daughter and I ate here twice on our three day trip to Weymouth. We got the veggie burger, cheese and fruit plate and honey cake to finish. The owner has her own bees and many of the menu items feature their honey. We are in the garden--it was a perfect experience! This is family run restaurant and everything is homemade. Highly recommend

If you like your cakes home-made and gluten free or you savouries vegetarian then this little gem is for you. Sit out in the garden and watch the little birds is another pleasure, they will happily help you eat the cakes.

Visited for lunch. Welcomed by the owner Rachel. Lovely garden area. Ordered the mezze of quiche and a lovely variety of salads with jacket potato. It was delicious! £8.50 for big plate full. We will be back

Wow wow wow. This cafe is a real treasure and if you're in Weymouth and love vegetarian and vegan food you MUST visit. The food was superb. Just everything from savoury to sweet was simply delicious. With take our cakes too! The Rose and pistachio cake was amazing!! We'll be back!!

So refreshing to go out to lunch and find somewhere to eat that serves good wholesome food. A very interesting menu,with lots of tempting freshly prepared meals. My friend and myself enjoyed sharing one of their delicious mixed variety salad with a vegetable quiche and new potatoes. Followed by a yummy White Chocolate Cheesecake,topped with flaked almonds and ginger biscuit base. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and the cafe has a Cosy atmosphere . On a sunny day they also have a very pretty courtyard garden to eat in. We very much enjoyed our first, but not last visit....

Hands down the best food in Weymouth. Made and handled with skill and care and served in a homely environment. A diverse menu that is very clearly labelled as vegan/vegetarian/gluten free when appropriate. Resalabley priced and take away is available.

Reopened a few days ago after refit. Now made a bit more room. Food really tasty and cakes are amazing. All food is made by them and is delicious. Owners are friendly and always willing to advise and suggest alternatives if necessary. As non veggie couple, we love it there and often visit for lunch or just coffee and cake. They also sell jars of honey from their own bees,

I have eaten in the HiVe several times and always recommend to friends and family. Whether your vegan, veggie or a meat eater, there’s plenty of awesome foods to cook from. The owners are so friendly and helpful, always willing to answer any questions. Probably the best vegan cakes for a fair few miles around!

Big sulk today as I went round to eat, but they are closed till Feb, (?) the website said open from 10:30-15:30 today, NOT a complaint, just I was sooooo very looking forward to eating there. Roll on February, and Happy New year to The Hive, I will be first in the queue for some good food.

We were looking for somewhere that could offer healthy vegetarian food after indulging a little too much on holiday in Weymouth. The Hive is a wonderful little cafe which serves everything from super healthy salads to falafel, burgers and enchiladas, all veggie friendly and most dishes available as vegan also. There is also a wide selection of cakes to choose from if you’re still hungry. Lovely staff as well!

We went here for lunch on a beautiful day last week. It's right on the coast with good car parking and a view straight over the beautiful Burton Bradstock beach and the sea. Very child and dog friendly. Seating inside and out - we sat out in the sun. And without doubt the best fish and chips I've ever had anywhere! And the fish soup which my guest had was delicious too. The whole menu looked lovely - I can't wait to go again and try some different dishes. Delightful young staff too.

Tucked away down one of Weymouth's side streets is this little gem. It's a vegetarian/vegan cafe - but if, like me, you are neither don't be put off. The food is wonderful. All of it is prepared by the owner/chef, often using ingredients grown in their garden. Honey is from their own hives. Menu selection is wide; both savoury and sweet are equally delicious. Whether it is only coffee and cake you want or a full three course meal, you are bound to find something to tempt you. Prices are very reasonable and the staff lovely. Seek it out, you won't be disappointed.

Once you find it you will return to The Hive Cafe. If you want great vegan or vegetarian food in a clean, friendly environment you need look no further. There is a very pretty courtyard to the side on the building, great to soak up the sun in Weymouth. Will definitely return soon.

A bit off the beaten track and in a tired looking street but don’t let that put you off, this is a cosy independent place with a varied menu, and a couple of specials. Mainly veggie/vegan and delicious!

The Hive cafe is worth finding if you enjoy freshly prepared real food. The cafe is simple but carefully presented. The menu is a delight for the vegans and veggies but perfect for everyone. Service is friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come again

What a gem in Weymouth! Amongst all the trashy shops I thought I would not find anything nice yet a quick look on TripAdvisor I found this little café off the beaten track a little. The little courtyard garden is so cute and beautiful and sat there and had a ginger cordial, roasted veg and hummus toastie and added extra salad sides to it and a piece of cherry and blackcurrant chocolate cake. Everything was delicious and I ended up buying some humane honey for my partner and as a Christmas present. Wonderful to have delicious vegan and vegetarian food and really friendly chatty staff - thank you so much! xx

Small cafe with a great range of both savoury and sweet foods, well served and with reasonable prices. We are here for a week so will be back. My wife wants cheesecake next!

I visited the Hive cafe twice in four days when I was in Weymouth for work - the first lunch was delicious so I had to come back for a second! The food is fresh and delicious, and the cakes were lovely. I'm neither vegetarian nor vegan but really enjoyed both meals. The staff were also friendly and welcoming, which I particularly notice when eating alone. Would definitely recommend this place!

As a vegetarian I am often presented with the usual veggie lasagne or mushroom risotto so finding this small backstreet cafe which solely produced vegetarian and began good was a real treat. It can be easily overlooked as the outside does not do it justice. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. The cafe is small and perfect for sitting with a friend enjoying a great lunch whilst exchanging the latest news. It's deffinately worth a visit and I promise even non vegetarians will enjoy the meal.

We chose the hive for this lunch in Weimouth. It has a very relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. If you ask for a mezze with your choice of quiche or samosa or veggie sausage roll they are serve with a delicious mix of salads, potatoes...delicious. Don't leave the hive without tasting the cakes, to die for!!

We had 5 meals and drinks, all different and all great. Wish we lived nearer. Lovely family who run this.

If it’s fish you want then the Hive is one of the places to add to your itinerary. There is usually a number of species of fish to tempt your pallet, whether it is covered in batter or plain grilled. They do crustaceans too

Arrived in Weymouth needing something quick to eat.. found this place by accident.. Run by 2 very chatty people.. Had a couple of vegan options which we had.. nice deserts also.

The food is absolutely delicious and the setting perfect but and it is a big but, they are now so popular that at lunchtime in the summer one has to wait for a table and a wait can be anything up to half an hour. The last time we tried to take friends there we gave up and went elsewhere which is a pity, but they need to either have more table or speed up the cooking and service. However other than that its very good and brunch is excellent.

The tastiest veggie food i have ever had. My daughter recommended it, and i will certainly revisit! Everything from savoury to sweet was fab!

This cafe is a little out of the way from the seafront and main pedestrian shopping street but it’s worth finding. It’s also easy to walk by- in fact I did. It’s opposite the car park in Park Street. There is a great selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food. Quiche, savoury pastries, salads, toasties & jacket potatoes plus cakes. All homemade. The family running the cafe are lovely & we chatted to them about the bees they own and the homemade food. There was an upstairs seating area and a little garden area outside too.

All lovely,the two vegans loved it,and we had nice veggie meals.very pleasant.they even provided a high chair for our little granddaughter.

What a gem of a place for non meateaters ( and meateaters!!) I’m a really fussy eater but this place catered even for me. Great food and coffee that tastes like coffee, not the usual dishwasher rubbish served. Only downfall is, if you don’t know where it is you could easily walk right on by! Make this a cafe to visit anytime of the year, friendly happy bunch of people!

Found it by accident whilst on a course. Not been before but had a piece of cherry bakewell and a cappuccino, very nice indeed. Wonderful views too, ideal summer stopping point!

Stopped here for a coffee and a cake after seeing the Cafe on the HappyCow app. Gorgeous cafe with the friendliest staff. We had coffees (which were great) and the mint chocolate vegan brownie - it was so delicious. Can’t wait to come back here for a meal sometime!

After reading positive reviews definitely wanted to try the HiVe Cafe. Only had one opportunity so pitched up just after 10.30 am which is really cake and tea time. But when I explained to the lady at the counter she very kindly accepted my order for the halloumi salad which I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in their courtyard. Would definitely return.

Excellent food and lovely, bright, clean cafe. Great choice using fresh top quality ingredients. We had the toasted cheese sandwiches which were full of flavour. The bread was delicious. They came with a great salad and coleslaw and the honey dressing was very tasty. Will definitely be coming here on our next trip to Weymouth.

Recommended by my sister who lives in Dorchester. Food is all fresh, lovely presented and very tasty. The owners are extremely welcoming and friendly. A lovely little cafe which is relaxed and quaint.

Visited with a group of friends, hadn’t booked! We were welcomed and tables sorted so we could be accommodated despite it being very busy! Food superb, service quick, beautiful location! Absolutely a must visit if in the area or definitely worth going out of your way to treat yourself to locally sourced, homemade food which was appropriately and affordable given the quality! We went for breakfast which was amazing and great size portions! Only wish we had had another day on holiday as the crabs and lobsters looked incredible!!

I am not vegetarian but this is my favourite cafe in Weymouth. The food is amazing, I have been twice now and had the meze and the halloumi salad. Both were so tasty, beautifully presented and good value for money. My husband had the beekeepers lunch which he loved. We would recommend this cafe to everyone.

When your on holiday with someone who has food allergies, a vegetarian and a dog it can be interesting eating out. Well the Hive accommodated us all. We sat out in the garden on the hottest day. The food was superb even for myself the dedicated meat eater, I had the sweet potato and spinach quiche with salad it was to die for and I didn't miss not having meat. The coffee was good plain coffee if I wanted fancy I would have gone to one of the many barista chains that were nearby. Then I had a bite of the honey cake that another member of the group had oh my words cannot describe how nice it was. When I'm next in Weymouth I'll be back for more, may even order a honey cake to bring back to Wales.

Had the Enchiladas which were amazing. Also enjoyed a lovely side salad but was too scared to try the extra hot chilli sauce. My husband had the vegetable samosa and a selection of salads which he also loved. After I had a pistachio and rose cake which was quite possibly the nicest cake I have ever tasted. Husband had the seeded flapjacks which he liked very much. I would thoroughly recommend this cafe for a meal or for a coffee and cake. We will be back.

A filthy day in Weymouth and the shop we needed to visit was closed so we were fed up, but had spotted this cafe when we were parking the car and decided to warm up with a coffee. No fancy coffees - just filter, which was fine but wouldn't warrant a return visit. However, we also tried the cakes, and they were delicious - definitely worth a return to try other flavours! I would find it hard not to have the rose & pistachio again, though.

Found this little place via another mobile app but thought it was worth putting a review on Tripadvisor as both myself and my partner were delighted with the venue, the staff, and the food, just a shame that they had run out of the vegan cheesecake.

Incredibly rude reception. asked me to leave when i only wanted a coffee as i wasnt spending enough money apparently. im a student so thought this was really harsh and money-grabbing, it is a cafe afterall. My mum used to visit this place alot too because it was her nearest cafe.

Non veggie first visit to a vegetarian restaurant. My wife and I visited for lunch ( her choice) as she had been there before with a vegetarian friend I have to say that they have a very good menu and all the dishes served looked delicious my wife had quite with salad and new potatoes which she said was delicious I opted for the Beekeepers lunch which was a ploughman's with the addition of honeyed walnuts it's served with a choice of cheese, salad, home made slaw,olives, apple and warm rolls. A very satisfying platter full. Even if your not veggie do pop in and try it is lovely

We hahad a light lunch of soup and desserts. My husband was delighted to try vegan meringue a treat he thought he'd given up forever. I had a yummy fruit crumble. Service was really friendly. They are going to try recipes for a vegan quiche!! Highly recommended.

Myself, my wife and 3 children visited here mid week. We're all veggie apart from my wife who is vegan. The food was genuinely really nice and very reasonably priced. (£45 for 5 meals and 5 desserts). Loads of vegan options including dairy free cheese and ice cream. It was very pleasant and informal with a nice it door terrace at the rear. I would visit again and it would be great if the owners could consider extending the opening hours to include evening meals. A little veggie gem!

We had visited on previous holidays so we're keen to return. The food, staff and ambiance are still excellent and we really enjoyed our visit. Lovely pastries, cakes and salads. Yummy!
