The Hive in Ceredigion

Just had a full breakfast here. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. This was the best breakfast I've had anywhere else. The flavour, quality and quantity of food was absolutely perfect! Wish I could move down here just for the food alone! Well done Chef!

Lovely evening last night at The Hive with my girlfriend. The food was delicious and the setting upstairs in the restaurant was perfect. The staff member that hosted us this evening, Aga, was superb. She was very attentive and provided excellent service. We will definitely be visiting The Hive when we visit Aberaeron again in the future!

After a walk around the village and harbour,we decided to try The Hive. It was a good move on our part. The breakfast was beautiful. Definitely visit again, later in the day for the ice-cream.

We had a delicious brunch here, and ordered flatbread halloumi and chicken. They were pretty fulfilling and delicious. The place is very cozy and warm.

Absolutely delicious meal at The Hive. The Sunday Roast was perfect, cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely and attentive, nothing was too much trouble for them. I could not believe how reasonable it cost, soft drink, meal, dessert and coffee for £34. I would highly recommend The Hive.

Lovely place to enjoy good food while reading a good book! Edit: Came back for a second visit a year later. Even better than last time. Highly recommend.

Have not tried the food offerings here, but will one day, as all I've seen passing on plates looks great. The main attraction here is the honey infused ice-cream, several flavours, all delicious and certainly worth a quick diversion whenever I'm in the area.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Fantastic staff so attentive and friendly Great chatty atmosphere. Only downside is that we had booked a specific table and arrived maybe 3/4 mins before the time. Unfortunately they ignored our wishes and plonked us elsewhere. Not very nice when we were in two minds to go there in the first instance

We went there this evening for a Christmas meal out. Lovely food, lovely wine and wonderful staff. This is one of my most favourite places in Aberaeron for coffee or food, highly recommend. Thank you very much for having us this evening The Hive.

On entering they were busy but not that busy my wife got a table as I went to the toilet there was a gentleman talking to some customers he didn't come over to take our order my wife had to go to the counter for someone to come go us i asked for a glass of water to take some pain killers which didn't arrive. My wife's cappuccino was just froth On leaving to pay i asked for a loyalty card expecting my first stamp couldn't even get that right

Stopped in for a mid journey break from Swansea to Anglesey. Did a quick Google search on the road for nearby restaurants and The Hive popped up. Quick Look on the menu ( we’re vegetarians and fussy eaters!) and decided to stop. Bit of a detour due to major works going on around the port but a nice 8 minute walk along the front from the beach car park and we were there. Great welcome from the 2 guys behind the bar and directed to comfy seats in the conservatory which I’m sure will have an amazing view once all the works are done. A lovely fire on, albeit a warm November day and beautiful, tasteful Yule decorations made the environment very comfortable and pleasing. We ate off the lunch menu, my friend a veggie breakfast, one of the nicest he’s had. Myself a bowl of butternut squash soup, really nice and very large! And a bowl of their truffle fries which I can honestly say were the nicest I’ve ever had as normally quite disappointing in other places but these delivered!!!! Also massive and had to share with my friend and the little one. Said little one had a child’s flatbread pizza which was a little basic but she enjoyed it along with plenty of my fries!!! A non alcoholic beer, a mulled wine and a strawberry milkshake later and the bill was under £50. Very reasonable and the food was all awesome. Nice chat with the ladies on the next table and an hour later we were on our way again. Will definitely return. Wish it were closer!!!! All in all 5 stars. If we’d have had dinner I think I may have struggled being a vegetarian but would have tried their special (hopefully always a veggie option on there) which was today a Mediterranean vegetable tart. Stupid one last thing but the wallpaper in the toilet corridor (very clean toilets by the way!) is beautiful!

Always visiting Aberareon need to get to The Hive 🐝for theirs delicious (and very unique! Just few other places in whole Wales are doing them differently!) ICE CREAM 🍦 made with Honey 🍯and this time those delivered yummy experience as no other! 🤤 But just before my Ice'y Extravaganza together with Partner we decided to go first time with some foodie options and because it was early morning so breakfast was the most desired thing 🍳 We simply love Welsh Rarebit personaly thinking that this is the Best of what this land got to offer (in terms of food, obviously 😜) so when we saw those in Menu we knew it what we have ordered. Extra fried egg was good & bad decision tbh. From one side it made dish more filling but from other killed the taste of cheese which is very important for it. Bread, despite good quality, was not really proper for that kind of thing as because of high temperature became a bit gluey (!?)... We definitely had much tastier Welsh Rarebits even recently butIt doesn't mean it was totally bad. We still enjoy it! And the coffee ☕ was fab too! 🤎 This place definitely got very good vibe probably because of wonderful, friendly staff and beautiful views of Aberareon's Harbour. Looks like we have to get back for something else from theirs very interesting card! 👀🍽️

Fantastic breakfast with so many options. Great portions, locally sourced meat, good veggie options in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Lovely service too. We will be back!

Cath and her team, were amazing catering for our group of adults with wheelchairs and their staff.

CARE HOME ON TOUR !! Myself, 5 colleagues, 4 service users in wheelchairs and a set of parents visited yesterday. At very short notice they were able to accommodate all of us. The staff were very friendly which as a large party causing chaos was very much appreciated ❤️ We were seated together in a convenient place and staff were so helpful. The food (the chocolate brownie sundae especially) and service was amazing. The staff have no idea what a difference it makes to our service users to be welcomed without judgement. Amazing ❤️

This is my first time here and I was very impressed. I'm a restaurant snob as so many places don't get the ambiance right. The Hive has a lovely, spacious area to eat in with a lovely view of the harbour. The food was lovely and beautifully presented. The staff were very attentive. The light jazz playing added to the atmosphere. I also got to try a local cider!

Always lovely food and good service. Particularly enjoyed the Korean beef rib croquettes starter and the sea bream. We'll be back!

I’ve eaten here on four occasions in the last two years, and the food has always been excellent. Both my wife and I both thought our starters and mains were spot on. I had the mussels for main and my wife the sea bream, both meals were cooked to perfection. The staff were also very friendly and attentive, we had great service.

Best fish and chips I've had in long time

Had breakfast here last week with my family, a lovely clean place, pet friendly aswel, me & my son had the full English & hubby had a veggie breakfast 😊, only downside is bacon wasn't cooked enough for me I suppose I could have asked for it to be well done but hey ho it was still nice.. & on Friday we visited Aberdaron again & had there hive ice cream 🍦 😋 now that was beautiful 😍 & would definitely recommend it..

Just had breakfast here, it was rhe best eggs benedict I've ever had. Very quick service, lovely atmosphere, will definitely be back.

A truly eye opening experience dining at this fine establishment. What seems like a dull and mellow town, is brought to life with the succulent and tender pattys hand crafted at the Hive. The Hive Welsh beef burger is a must try.

Best ice cream on Aberystwyth coast

Only visited once on a quick stop in Aberaeron for a coffee and ice cream. It was a really rainy day so that might have slightly dampened the experience but it wasn’t a great experience overall. We wanted to stop for an ice cream and a coffee, and sit outside with our dog. We were told we couldn’t order coffees from the front hatch where we could order ice cream, so had to go and make two separate orders. I have a nut allergy and asked for my ice cream to be taken from the fresh boxes in the freezer with a clean scoop rather than from the chest where there’s a risk of cross contamination - this is commonplace. The girl who seemed to be in charge on shift understood this, but the girl who ended up serving me got it wrong and had to be asked (politely) three times to do it right, and acted a bit frustrated/inconvenienced at having to do it, which wasn’t a great experience. After that, the ice cream wasn’t particularly nice anyway. We sat outside on a drizzly day, but there was plenty of space to sit, and the atmosphere inside looked nice so maybe it was an unlucky experience, but I wouldn’t go there again.

Great food, lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff. Struggled as we had a dog with us and most places were either not serving food or wouldn’t allow dogs, so we found this place luckily and we would 100% visit again without a doubt… 5*

Aug 2024 3rd visit. Last visited 2 years ago. We pre booked as it was heaving on our previous visits. There was no need this time, however. There is work being done along the harbour wall, which I guess is affecting footfall, which is a shame as it really is a fabulous restaurant. Still as tasty as ever! My husband was a little disappointed that his fish portion wasn't as big as last time, but he did say it tasted great! No complaints from me... I had the best chicken burger I've ever had and no issues with portion size. I can eat a lot and there was plenty! Fantastic food! Extremely tasty and well portioned. Lots of choice to suit most tastes, both food and drinks... a good selection of gins, and cocktails. The best meal I've had in a long time!! Staff were friendly and eager to ensure a good experience was had. I highly recommend dining here!

Brilliant café in Aberaeron with the best ice cream anywhere, enriched with honey as the sweetener. The harbour is currently inaccessible due to ongoing vital coastal defence work which is a real shame (2024 August)

Great Place, Nice food and Decent price. There is construction work going on in the harbour next to the restaurant so the surroundings look a bit dodgy for the time being but I'm sure once this is finished it will look great.

Nice fish and chips, generous desserts

This place is absolutely overpriced. While the staff is quite friendly and the restaurant boasts a nice interior design with additional outdoor seating where you can enjoy fresh air, the food is merely mediocre. Charging £15 for a small burger with basic ingredients and no dressing or chips is unreasonable. The fries on the side, priced at £5, are small and unimpressive. Unfortunately, I will not be visiting again unless they significantly reduce their prices. Sadly, I do not recommend.

We stayed at the Hive last week and were blown away with the standard of accommodation. Our room was absolutely gorgeous. The decor was so tasteful, welcoming and cosy. The little touches of free snacks and drinks were a nice surprise - and little wooden tokens for free honey ice cream! The hairdryer and clothes steamer were much better quality than the ones I have at home! Breakfast was amazing as was dinner the night before. A great menu and a friendly atmosphere in the restaurant. Superb happy staff. Good value for money. Thoroughly recommend.

Best fish and chips i've had for a very long time. Fish is incredibly fresh and light accompanied by wonderful minted mushy peas and freshly cooked chips. Would definitely be back for more.

Went for ice cream for kids . Famous for their honey combo ice creams ,with various flavours. Quick service , and awesome taste . Accept card and cash. Free parking nearby. All the ice creams had honey blended and special was ice cream with beehive pieces .

Lovely for snacks lunch flatbread and generally friendly staff nice atmosphere! just ...DO NOT order the steak...expensive for a very small plate, fatty, not trimmed , poorly cooked( even when re done was as if they'd forgotten.it under the grill !) no accompaniment, not so much as some watercress for £23! Staff need better training !the waitress was not friendly... she was occupied with her friends at another table. Not good enough quite frankly

I haven’t been to the Hive in years and I’m so glad I did this Saturday. The food was phenomenal and so was the service. Nothing was too much to ask for and everyone was really friendly. Highly recommend the chicken starter and the steak! I asked for a garlic butter which isn’t on the menu but it should be as the one the chef whipped up was absolutely divine! Thank you all ❤️

Just visited on the 15th of June 24. First of all the atmosphere and restaurant itself was lovely, nice seating, good music, all round a nice place by the sea. However my and the mrs had to wait 35 minutes and remind the staff 3 times we ordered drinks before they arrived. When the food arrived my steak wasn’t cooked medium rare, it was rare and I had to remind them to bring my sauce. My girlfriends burger however was lovely. Price was fairly reasonable too.

Early doors so very prompt service . Good food. The wraps and open prawn sandwiches good value for money. They made my fish and chips with cod loin.

We go onxw a month for a Sunday lunch this was the worst we have had. Selected belly pork and cracking. The meat was 85% gooey fat with rubber cracking - not cooked properly. I said no cauliflower cheese but still got it. Rubber carrots. On the up side the brockly was nice. Won't go again

Great burger, though I was surprised it didn't come with chips. It's like having fish without the chips! Had to pay £5 for a little tray of chips. Won't be in any rush to return.

This place has changed. Used to be good pub grub and a great atmosphere but now seems to be trying to keep up with other restaurants by serving food people haven’t heard of. Also charging extra for chips? Sadly a lot of locals won’t go there anymore and we’ve taken the menu off our list of recommendations in our shepherds hut. We’ve also been told the staff are foreign and unwelcoming by our guests :(

Spacious with good views. Large portions of tasty food my food and an observation of other customers. Very helpful staff. Clean and modern facilities. (you know the location I am talking about) Reasonable prices. All good for me thank you The Hive team!!

Went for dinner, had mussels. They were really fresh, all fully open!!! Followed by the buger which was huge and tasty you have to order chips seperatly but that was fine they were big enough to share!

The food and service are dreadful

The food itself was nice however was very overpriced, the starters were reasonable however the mains were very overpriced, I had the chicken burger which was £14 that was without fries or even a side salad, if you wanted fries it was a additional £5, in comparison my burger was about the same size as a McDonald’s burger, my fried had the duck which was £19 it was nice however needed sauce as it was dry and the plate was mostly peas with some bacon pieces, the drinks were well priced compared to other restaurants you’d normally go to, the best part of the experience at The Hive was the ice cream, the best ice cream I’ve ever tried, overall was definitely not worth the total price we ended up having to pay, wouldn’t eat there again but would definitely come back for the ice cream

We visited expecting the original menu from the last time we went as it was AMAZING, the gammon and pineapple was perfect as was the other normal food. unfortunately we were met with a very confusing ‘posh’ menu. The hive seem to be trying to keep up with the restaurant over the way when it was always just a good food pub! If they had in brackets what the actual food was then there’s a lot we would have eaten, instead I had a kids burger :( Also they ask if you’d like chips with your order, that’s doesn’t mean it’s a side option. It means an extra £5 on your bill. The food we had was lovely and very reasonably priced given the locall room. I’m presuming the menu was printed on paper as it’s temporary and will he changed back 🤞🏻

Booked for Friday night, and loved it so we returned on Sunday. Great value, delicious food and just the right level of service - friendly, but not intrusive,and efficient. Really excellent all round.

Beautiful food and scenery. Unfortunately there’s a lot of construction work happening in Aberaeron at the moment, but despite this it was lovely upstairs. It’s quite small and cosy there. The food was lovely. Everyone enjoyed. We had the flat bread which was so tasty (but spicy) and some of the small tapas dishes. Our favourite was the halloumi. The menu isn’t massive but a nice variety of dishes and they were bigger than we expected. Not a bad price either for what you get. The only issue we had was- we’d ordered something that hadn’t come and was charged to the bill. The staff needed some convincing that we didn’t actually receive it and there was no apology. It’s no big deal really, but felt it was something that was probably missing to end the night. Lovely ice cream outside too, although it’s separate! Would come back for sure

Truly wonderful food served here. Good portion of well cooked fish in a delightful pea and prosciuto sauce. Our other dish was teriyaki vegetable noodles with beef which was also a good portion of well cooked food. Would eat there afain

Best Thai green curry moule ever. Hot, spicy and full of flavour. It was a generous portion and so delicious that I took home left over sauce and used it for a prawn curry at home! Very friendy and helpful staff.

Great breakfast and outstanding service. Plenty of choice with croissants to die for. You can enjoy full cooked or something healthier.

Just popped in for coffee and cake, not much choice for the cake but we had the fruit cake which was nice. Coffee was ok but not great.

Good quality food and wide range of drinks. Staff were very friendly and service was very good. The place is well designed and decorated. We went there for a family evening meal. It does not mention dogs on their website so I checked some reviews which said it was dog friendly. Unfortunately they do not allow dogs inside so I needed to take ours back to our accommodation. This did not ruin our night though, very enjoyable.

We went to get an ice cream from here (not the first time we had been during our weeks holiday in Wales) and the service was AWFUL. The ice cream hatch was run by teenagers who didn’t even say ‘hello’ when we walked up to order. I had to keep repeating my order as they forgot (at one point they even asked if they had charged us yet!). The one wearing rubber gloves was working the till, whilst the young girl handled the flakes for the ice cream with her bare hands. We have been coming here for as long as I can remember and the ice cream is a family fav but the service has made us feel so disappointed about what it has become.

The Hive has always been a great location, especially for ice cream, but our dinner last night was amazing - fantastic food, generous portions, friendly and efficient staff and a great atmosphere. It’s really good value and the menu is varied and true quality. Definitely recommended.

I’m writing this as a disappointed was potential customer! I’d read the place was dog friendly… but alas it’s only outside. As the wind was blowing wildly sitting out was a “no no”…I can fully appreciate not everyone is dog friendly, especially near food . HOWEVER.. Hive has a huge entrance lobby with a tiled floor… that seemed ideal for a few that are touring dog families and need sustenance. No alternative offered.. we wandered down to The Harbourmaster.. greeted profusely, sat on an enclosed terrace.. with an offer of a heater.. perhaps our £50 spend wasn’t sufficient initiative to Hive. Sad.

Great place, delicious coffee and incredible ice creams. The salted caramel honey ice cream was one of the best I've ever tasted. We loved sitting by the fireplace too. A must visit if you're in Aberaeron

High quality food and the prices were OK. I would not want to pay more for what I got. I would have liked the burgers, and especially the chips, to be hotter temperature-wise, maybe faster delivery from when it comes out of the pan would help. The parmesan on the chips could've been melted more, perhaps roast the chips a little with the cheese on top. The positives: delicious burgers! Yes, both the chicken and the beef ones were great and accorded with the menu description in terms of flavour from the seasoning. I particularly enjoyed the lime in the chicken burger. I perhaps felt the chicken burger could be priced a bit cheaper than the beef burger as it contained less meat. Both were £13. The sides are a little pricey but excellent quality. I enjoyed the crispy chips with rosemary and parmesan for £6.50. Some confirmation that the chips are hand cut would be assuring, as I'd expect this at this price. The milkshake was very good for £5 each, both quantity and quality, if a little thin - perhaps a little more ice-cream? They use their famous honey ice-cream inside it, which I could taste. Lattes were very good and made extra hot as requested. All in all a fine meal and pleasant quieter environment with lots of natural lighting and space between tables to enjoy your meal.

Lovely selection of ice cream available on the side of Aberaeron Harbour. Unfortunately the soft whip machine was not available but a wide variety of scooped ice cream available. We tried salted caramel, mine chox chip and mango/passion fruit and they were all very well flavoured and very creamy!

Was looking forward to a great Sunday lunch but unfortunately it was very disappointing. We had booked on Sunday morning for lunch at 1.30pm. We actually commenced eating at 2.15pm. When the meal came, the meat was nice but with very little veg. 1 roast potato. 1 sprig of broccoli, a few carrots and some sauce from the cauliflower cheese. The waitress explained that they had been very busy. It looked as if we had the leftovers. Still hungry when we left. Will not be returning

Called in on Sunday for a bit of lunch, sunday lunch only as you would expect on a Sunday, it did not disappoint and highly recommend. Will definitely be visiting again and have added the recommendation to our guest book at our lodge.

We sat in the bar area so that we could still people watch, great atmosphere, staff very friendly, the lunch was amazing both in flavour, cooking skill and quantity. We had a beef brisket and a pork lunch .. both came with extra gravy and side of cauliflower cheese. Vegs cooked perfectly and the potatoes (both mash and roast) all had great flavour and both meats cooked just right for both of us .. Was tempted by the pineapple desert on the menu but couldn't fit it in. We have a place close to LLanarth and have not visited the Hive previously but will definitely be visiting more frequently if the lunch is anything to go by !!! highly recommend and have added the recommendation to our guest visitors book ...

Had a lovely late lunch, the lamb kebabs were good and tasty. Friendly service, a nice place to eat.
