I had booked this event in February and agreed to pay £13.95 pp for a hot buffet consisting of chicken curry, vegetarian pasta, fish gougons, chips and rice. The venue itself was ideal and we had a fabulous evening except the quality of the food was well below what was expected and the service was equally below standard. There was no customer service at all once payment had been received no one asked was everything ok or cared about us. When I emailed the manageress following numbers of guests complaints about staff being rude to guests and the below standard food and service and that there was no one in the bar to take drinks orders I had a half hearted apology. I asked that guests be refunded £6 pp and after 48 hrs have had no response at all! It is so sad to see that the hotel is closing at short notice in two weeks time but understandable, so sad I have been to other events and eaten there on many occasions and could not fault the quality of the food and customer service.

All bookings including weddings, parties etc after 26/7/18 are cancelled from today. We had a party booked with visitors from around the world. most disappointing. This is not the fault of the staff who are all being laid off. They have made great efforts to find arrangements for us elsewhere. The owner needs to hang his head in shame

I had heard good reviews about The Feathers Royal and decided to go there for lunch on my lunch break. On arrival, there was no member of staff present in the bar area, even after waiting for five minutes. After ringing the bell, a young man came rushing out and I asked him if lunch was being served. His answer was yes and he handed over the menu. When I ordered my sandwich, there was no mention of a wait on food. After waiting for half an hour, I told the barman that I needed to get back to work and asked whether he could arrange for my lunch to be put in a take away box. A woman immediately appeared in the bar area and explained that they do not offer a take away option. I was with a group of colleagues and we explained to her that we had waited for over half an hour for our sandwiches. The woman's response was offensive and she made no attempt to apologise for the wait. We were made to feel as if we had caused them a problem which has left a bitter taste. The set up seemed to be a shambles with a complete lack of staff members. We left feeling upset that we had been spoken to in such a tone.

This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. The hotel itself is ok but the service is appalling. There is a significant lack of staff at most times of the day - nobody mans reception or the bar or the restaurant come to that and don't expect any help with luggage. We booked in during the afternoon and asked about booking for dinner. We were told there was no need to book as there was plenty of room as long as we came between 6 and 9pm. We came back to the hotel just before 9.00 and wandered around looking for a member of staff. There were only 2 customers eating in the restaurant and when we found the bar man he said the chef had finished making food for the day. We pointed out it was still just before 9.00 but the chef would not even make up a plate of cold meats or some sandwiches. We asked where we could go and get something to eat and just got a shrug from the boy behind the bar. We walked around Aberaeron on a damp Friday night to find that not only had most restaurants stopped serving but so had the fish and chip shop. We were cold hungry and totally miserable. So much for our lovely getaway break.

We eat here on our first night because we were staying at this hotel . We had a menu in our room and having looked through we were pleased with the selection . On entering the hotel bar there was a chalk board with daily extra choices of both starters , mains and desserts. I chose the scallops with chorizo and chile garlic oil for starters and the scallops were cooked perfectly . My main was Welsh Lamb rump with caramelised onions and mash again it was lovely .

We'd been to The Feathers Royal for lunch during the week, but this was my first time on a Sunday. The restaurant is geared for families. Tables and floors are spotless. The carvery line had a good selection of meats and vegetables. We had no more than five minutes of waiting before being seated. And the dessert menu? Small, but each item is mouthwatering. Can't wait to go back for another Sunday meal.

Staying nearby in Aberaeron we passed by the Feathers several times and read some excellent reviews so we decided to try a meal there. We went on a Wednesday night so there weren't very many diners but the waitress was very attentive and friendly. Visited The Feathers Royal today to have some lunch. It was 2.10pm but the sign outside said lunch served between 12 noon and 2.30pm we decided to give it a try. We were quite shocked when the waitress said that the restaurant had closed at 2pm - surely pull the sign in?!!In a nutshell (based on today's and previous experience) I think the good food at the hotel is let down by hap hazard levels of service. Some days you get good service there and then other days not so good. All I can say to the owners is: why is your kitchen closing early when other places in the town are heaving?? To me this is a clear warning sign from the general public and should be actioned upon before things get worse. The hotel is in the centre of the bustling town of Aberaeron - do something to bring the customers back in!!! Put a sign up in the Main Street and advertise!!

I would just like to point out that me and my family have often dined at the Feathers hotel in Aberaeron and the good has been of the highest quality and presented beautifully and although the decor is a little dated the warmth and comfort more than make up for this ,although I have not actually stayed in the hotel if there is any problem with anything I understand that there are people on call to sort it out . As for the toilets etc being "dirty" I think not ! they have always been clean and tidy and I cannot see that the owners and the managers would allow this to happen! The staff are always polite and respectfully and I would recommend anyone to stay here to see the beautiful Ceredigion countryside

Absouletly disgusted with the Royal Feathers Hotel In Aberaeron, had my mums 50th booked in there for Saturday 7th January with 40 attending the meal but due to unforeseen circumstances only 20 made it to the meal. But the hotel allowed all guests to get seated before pulling me aside and Refusing to start serving the meals uuntil x40 meals at £24.95 per head were paid in full amounting to £998. And what's worse is an additional 10-15 guests arrived to join the party and were told by the staff at the hotel there not allowed to sit with us until after we had food. And will not be allowed to join us for food although the meals already for. So the feathers hotel were happy to throw away 20 meals simply because they wasn't prepared to serve the meals to guests arriving for the party. The Food was Disgusting the beef was that Raw the cow may as well been walking around in the room with us. Plastic packaging was found in several of the desserts along with hairs. The toilets both male and female toilets were disgusting human faeces on the floors, walls toilet seats. The staff were extremely rude and disrespectful to all the guests. I would never ever recommend this as a venue to either book into as staying guests or to eat there.

Portion sizes were good but the vegetables were all on the raw side of al denté!! Had a lot of older members in the group that struggled to eat them as you could barely get a fork in them. Prices were quite high, £23 for three courses and for that price I would have expected slightly better cooking. All in all it was nice to eat out with the group but I wouldn't eat at the feathers again as I think we could get better value for money elsewhere

A traditional hotel, with lovely spacious sumptuous rooms, en suites are to a high standard. The bar serves food in a room just off the bar, food is Surprisingly good, surprisingly because the bar is in need of an upgrade with old upholstered chairs and a worn carpet, which gives a first impression that I think let's the hotel down. Eaten here several times and the steaks and fish are cooked well, staff are attentive and accommodating. Don't be put off well worth a try.

We visited yesterday evening for an end of holiday family meal. Having visited six months ago for the Sunday carvery which was beautiful, we had high hopes. We had booked our table the previous day. Upon arrival we had drinks in the bar area which is lovely as it is furnished with sofas and armchairs. We were then taken to our table in the restaurant area which again is decorated beautifully. The food arrived which was a huge disappointment. Both my husband and myself ordered the steak and ale pie which was the worst we have ever tasted, the meat was so tough it was inedible, sitting in a thin watery gravy. Other members of our family ordered the ribeye steak which was again tough and dry. All the meals including desert are very over priced for the standard of food received. We have eaten in many other local restaurants and cafes during the years we have been visiting and this is by far the worst meal we have ever had. It was a great shame as the service was excellent and surroundings were beautiful. we will definately not be eating here again.

Nice enough hotel, but having no internet the entire time is a nightmare for most people these days. You can't just go off line, for days at a time, so we probably wont book again unless this gets sorted. The breakfasts were average (don't go for Welsh breakfast! Laverbread looked like sewage, and didn't taste any better) also the waitress was rude. You had to find someone to get you a drink in the evening, and on our first morning the hot water ran out. All this for £130 a night, not good value I'd say....they need to up their game, we wont be back.

I was expecting to be under dressed and ill prepared for my visit to the feathers, because it looked like a very fancy restaurant at first. I was not disappointed though to find that everyone else felt the same. The staff were excellent, 2 boys who worked efficiently together in what looked like a busy night. The welshman who waited for our table was a lovely chap, and was naturally talking to the customers. The other boy was also lovely even though he was swamped by 13 or so people by the bar at the time. All in all a great experience here, the food was excellent but maybe a bit expensive. Unfortunately we didn't stay here, but I'd definitely take it into consideration next time we come visit this lovely town. As a local and having had many meals at the Feathers I am extremely disappointed at the attitude of the young man who is now in charge of seeing diners to their tables and ordering of meals. He is surly. We went in and asked for a table for two - he deliberated even though the sheet he had was nowhere near full of tables ordered, he gave us a menu and fifteen minutes later he still had not returned to take our order, indeed he kept avoiding looking at us. The girl who was serving drinks took a soft drink and then a shot of vodka and downed the lot in one swallow! Very unprofessional! Whilst we were waiting a lady came out of the dining room complaining that they had been sat at the table for three quarters of an hour without being served. This decided us. We left. We went to the bar to pay for the drinks and say we were not staying and the surly barman just took the money and didn't even ask why we were not staying. This restaurant is Definitely not on my return list.

We visited for evening meal on our latest visit to Aberaeron and were so disappointed, the place itself advertised an open fire which there was not one lit. It was quiet admittedly, but no tlc no love for their work, on the service front or the cooking. We both had fish and chips, it tasted ok at first taste but once you got underneath there was a big slab of uncooked batter, the chips were ok but not crispy. the atmosphere was hiding somewhere. No cask ale for partner. I was really excited when told the dry white wine was French sauvignon (so often these days its Chilean and like vinegar), oh the excitement wore off quickly, it was more vinegary than vinegar to the point of being undrinkable. I gave them a chance and asked for a glass out of a fresh bottle in case it had been stood for a while, but no, awful. Needs an injection of tlc passion and genuine enjoying what they're doing. Real shame when you look at the place's history

What a fantastic day! Food was fantastic, service was brilliant, and the lead up to our wedding was organised to perfection! I can't fault a thing! A perfect wedding venue in every way!

My husband and I had a mid-week evening meal. Pleasant and efficient welcome. Comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, decor with local theme. We choose fairly simple food, which was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked and we are fussy! Not expensive and certainly worth every penny. Our bench mark ' would we eat there again' Yes, we certainly would.

and the bedroom furniture that wouldn't look out of place in a Sindy house. BUT really friendly, helpful independent hotel - and, let's face it, there aren't enough independents out there. Fabulous tasty breakfast beautifully presented. A bit of a refurb and it'd be magnificent.

Sunday carvery is a most extraordinary experience with '40s music (Andrews Sisters a go go) playing in an old fashioned dining hall - think of the movie 'The Shining'! However, service very pleasant and food pretty good for a carvery and very good value. Huge portions and second helpings allowed. Mixed feelings, but a very generous and tasty Sunday lunch.

My second stay at the Feathers and I now know to bring a data cable with me if I want to use the internet during my stay, as the wifi is rather feeble and won't cover much more than the reception area. The room I stayed in was another that faced the big flat roof, leaving my window wide open was essential due to the hot weather but not ideal from a security point of view. It is very quiet around the hotel, particularly as the Lampeter Road seems to have far less traffic than the A487, so the wide open window didn't detract from my ability to sleep. The single bed was comfy, everything was clean and well maintained albeit rather old fashioned and fussy in style.Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice including local produce and a proper Welsh breakfast of cockles, lava bread and bacon. Service is rather like the decor, not quite what you would expect in a mainstream hotel, but friendly and fine.

My family of seven adults on a holiday visit to Aberaeron decided to have lunch at the The Feathers Royal Hotel. We were warmly greeted and quickly shown to our table. Without exception the food provided was of a very high standard. It is clear that they do not do nouveau cuisine but the meals are well crafted and well cooked. The meals and indeed the hotel/restaurant has a certain genteel charm to it and is all the better for it. It is no surprise that this is a Rotary Club meeting place.Do not let any of this put you off. The hotel is a class act and just sufficiently off the beaten track to allow meals to be taken at a civilised pace.

We are regular diners at the Feathers, and have always been pleased with the quality of the food. To achieve such consistency over such a long period is remarkable given that so many restaurants have their 'off' days. Well done Lee, Richard and the team.

Really well cooked veg, flavoursome gravy and super Yorkshire puds. The beef looked nice, but was carved in really thick slices, which were hard to cut with table knives. Please slice the beef thinner or give diners steak knives to deal with it!Puds were lovely too.

we had booked a table for my friends birthday, we were told that we needed to pre order so we did. when we sat down to eat about five minutes late, most of the starters came out, but a couple did not and as the waitress had not asked if that was everything we had to go to the bar to chase the missing starters. the mains came out exept for 3 this time, and again we had to ask where they were to be told that there was no more steak and ale pie, and that we should heve known and the turkey dinner would be there soon, we asked to see the menu and for some bread while we waited as we were by now starving, it took an hour for the bread to come out and the turkey dinner. when we asked to talk to the owner he was rude blaming us for sitting down late and not emailing him the order, as we had phoned it in, and it took some effort to get the turkey dinner taken off the bill. i would say on the whole the food was ok, if very over priced, but the service was apauling and the owner very ignorant, i will defiantly not be going back!

My husband and I took my parents for Sunday lunch at The Feathers Royal Aberaeron 25/8/13. I can honestly say it was one of the nicest meals I have ever had. The food was a delicious carvery with all the trimmings. The staff were very friendly and professional and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. The icing on the cake was a young pianist who played classical and popular music from the 40's and 50's as well as current songs on a grand piano. Helledd Griffiths was excellent and made our Sunday lunch a meal to remember. Thank you xx

Not the most exciting title for a review I agree but that's what it was, I am very spoilt where I live as the Sunday carvery is amazing so whenever I go somewhere new it has to make the mark. The waiting service staff are spot on very pleasant an efficient to say the least, the bar man mmmmm less said the better. The food was nice not outstanding, only two slices of meat a bit tight maybe, the Yorkshire pudding however was very tasty, would we return possibly to give it another try but we will see

We have dined at this restaurant a number of times, for a variety of celebrations and each time we've eaten here it has been superb. The Sunday carvery is mouthwatering, with a selection of fresh, hot vegetables and homemade giant Yorkshire puddings - my favourite! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Aberaeron for a day trip or staying nearby. The service is fantastic and the management are always visible, which is always reassuring. A+++

Ate here Saturday lunchtime. The Feathers Hotel is centrally located opposite the park. The only thing lacking is the wonderful views at Aberaeron harbour! Good selection of food to suit all palates. Prices were reasonable. Service was excellent. We had a lovely young man serving us who couldn't do enough for us. Two of us had the Thai red chicken curry , one had the home made beef lasagna and the fourth member of our party had the grilled haddock. Three of us had the crumble for our sweet as it was a very cold day outside and we were in need of comfort food!

Booked a table on Mothers Day for five people . We were well looked after by the staff and the food was first class. It was very busy on the day in the large spacious restaurant but there was always a member of staff at hand to attend to all our needs. Well done The Feathers I can now see why you are so busy .

They do a lovely pate here. And the sausage and mash is good as is the lasagne. There is also an excellent Sunday carvery. The hotel has different events that take place regularly. The Bee Gees coming up and also Queen tribute.

Called in on Sunday without a prior booking. Staff were very helpful and we only had to wait half an hour for a table. I have a dairy product allergy and although the carvery chef was extremely busy he went out of his way to provide me with veg which had no butter or sauces - a good variety. The following Tuesday together with three friends we had a "retro" afternoon tea. Chef outdid himself. The others had sandwiches, scones with jam and fresh cream and an eclair. I had smoked salmon sandwiches and cucumber sandwiches followed by a meringue castle served with strawberries and a coulis and almond slices. Very tasty. The management and staff at The Feathers are so good. Well done all of you.

What an absolutely fantastic meal we had at The Feathers last Sunday, Steaks cooked to perfection. Smoked Haddock in a cream sauce wish I had the recipe. Good choice of sweets that tasted Devine. Friendly staff that went out of their way to create such a lovely atmosphere. Special mention and thanks to the chef who gave us good advice on mushrooms. We look forward to our return.

I stayed in The Feathers on Friday night. My sister was getting married on Saturday so the bridal party, which was me, my sister, and two bridesmaids, stayed in the family room. When we first arrived, my dad and brother where staying in a room down the hall. The room was nicely decorated but there was no shower, only a bath. Also there was only one bath robe in their room. The family room that I stayed in was nice, decoration was lovely. But again there was only one bath robe! One thing that ruined our stay was the fact that there was a 70's disco night on the friday (the night before the wedding) and the music was so loud! Our room was really hot with no air con so we had to leave the window open. We where planning on having an early night in order to be nice and fresh for the wedding! But the 70's disco made sure that didn't happen! I thought it was a bit silly that we hadn't been told beforehand when we booked the room that this disco was going on! We did eventually get to sleep. Toilet flush was very temperamental!

Can't complain about the food, but as we entered you are greeted by the most miserable bar man you could ever wish to meet everything an effort for him from pouring a drink to smiling! Then we went through to eat and our table only had 9 seats but there was 11 of us! So my wife asked for 2 more of which the lady said we Only booked for 9 which was a lie! Then she said we can go eat else where if we want! OMG how rude and she needed a change of clothes as the ones she was wearing were stained with food. Other than the two rudest people you could ever meet the food was good. But would never go there again which is a shame really.

We booked for Sunday lunch. It's a large basic cafe with canteen like furniture. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and although basic the food, served at a canteen style servery, was plentiful and well cooked. I had to ask the server to stop as she piled veg and potatoes on top of the generous portion of meat. It is not cordom bleu but you won't leave this place hungry and the prices are reasonable.
