Railway Inn in Ceredigion

Hate going out for Sunday Lunch & paying a fortune for a substandard meal. So after reading the reviews tried here. It was absolutely fabulous. Food as delicious as home could not fault in any way. Thank you to all concerned.

Tasty hot homemade mains and desserts. Lovely lady serving.

This was a lovely atmospheric hotel with a friendly clientele and we enjoyed our brief stay but my only complaint is that I wish that the coffee had been as round and full-bodied as the landlord! :) Quite a feeble brew and could do with a boost, the wine was delicious.

Absolutely love this pub! Well done to Howell and his family for running such a lovely friendly local. Good drink choices,welcoming and friendly. What more could you want in a small seaside pub! Keep up the good work!

Stopped overnight in a motorhome drank great cheap beer and the food was spot on. Really lovely people will be staying there again

Im a big Guinness fan and everywhere I go I rate it. Ive had some of the worst pints of Guinness I’ve ever drank in West Wales. But this pub was quality. Best pint of Guinness im West Wales (so far)

Popped in this little gem for lunch today. Absolutely lovely food. Burger and chips was bang on and the lady who served us was really nice . Five stars all round 👌👍

Excellent food, very friendly staff and well priced. Ended up going back several times as the food was so good. (Jayne even added extra 🔥 to the chicken curry so I enjoyed it even more) can't recommend enough.

Good vfm, food was nice pub grub. Bit strange the restaurant seemed to be appended to the pub rather than part of it, had to order drinks from the bar!

30thSept 23! Warm welcome from Jayne & staff! 6 adults 1baby 1dog! We went on the Saturday for a birthday meal! Best hunters chicken we had! Booked for Sunday dinner! Lovely to have Lamb on the menu! We booked again Mon, Tues, & Wed night! Bingo on the Wednesday was fun! Thankyou You made our holiday!

Super Sunday lunch for the family from Jayne’s. Two of us had the lamb, one had chicken and another had a vegetarian option. All four main meals were lovely and came with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roast potatoes and a roast parsnip. Two separate dishes of veg which included carrots, beans and broccoli and a cauliflower cheese. All fresh and well cooked. The only complaint I had was that if I had known there was also a selection of lovely homemade puddings I would have left some room for these. The sweet cooler showcased trifle, apple pie, chocolate fudge cake etc. All the puddings you love but can’t be bothered to do at home. Very nice. Will visit again next time in Borth. A great place for a meal if you like home style cooking, decent sized portions and good quality fresh food.

I walked in at 6.55pm and asked if they were serving food. I was told to ask in the restaurant part. I entered a empty room and a lovely lady looked at a bedraggled hungry me and my partner and said sit there ill get your order. Very quickly orders were taken. A short very reasonable wait later Nd I was then left speechless by my hunters chicken. It was homemade including the sauce..it was the best hunters chicken I'd ever eaten. It was a huge portion reasonably priced. Lovely lady. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and will be going back and also already recommended to people. Thankyou for the lovely food you provided made me feel like home. And moms home cooked warm dinners with as much love ❤️

Very quirky pub that had the feeling of a typical locals pub, although everyone that walked through the door was treated like a local. The bar was very well stocked, and the staff were friendly. Very inexpensive home cooked feed, and good portion sizes. We had a roast, which had all the trimmings (they even had 2 veggies options). The next meal I opted for was a lasagne. As a lasagne connoisseur (fat lad), I’ve had my fare share of these across the globe. I can confirm this was a well made dish. A little heavy on the mustard in the white sauce, but that’s just the way I like it - well done! I’d like to add, these 2 meals were on separate days. Drinks prices were super cheap. It was like I was drinking back in 2010. A nice clean pint in there too.

Last year I forgot to leave a review! As a food lover I can tell you the hunters chicken is the best I've ever had! Jayne is very Friendly and hard working... I hope Jayne is proud of her accomplishments with her amazing food. We will be visiting you for food again very soon. Please count this review as 4 reviews due to us going there 4 times!

Had a takeaway from here absolutely lovelly great service friendly staff.

We were staying in Borth over the bank holiday weekend (August 23). We hadn’t booked a Sunday lunch and we tried various other places but understandably they were fully booked because we were trying at the last minute. I rang the Railway Inn and explained our situation. The lady was most helpful and said she could squeeze us in. We arrived not long after to be seated immediately. We ordered 2 adult roast dinners and 2 children’s roast dinners. When the lady came to the table, she came with 2 large bowls of cauliflower cheese, 2 large bowls of roast potatoes, 2 large dishes of mixed vegetables, mint sauce, apple sauce and a big boat of gravy. Than came the meat. I have honestly never had so much meat on a roast in any pub. It was cooked to perfection and even my children who are not the greatest fans of a roast enjoyed every bit of it. Then afterwards the children had a choice of ice cream for desert. The staff were very friendly. A lovely atmosphere. We will definitely eat here again. But we will book well in advance next time.

We hadn’t booked but asked politely if they had space for 2 adults but were told in a rude manner that “no”. Disappointed but won’t be returning.

5 star all the way. Jayne was lovely, friendly and professional and the food was outstanding. We had beef and ale pie with homemade gravy, chips and peas followed by home made sherry trifles, absolutely delicious. Theres a huge car park at the side with eating inside or out definitely returning this week

Simple menu, but really tasty proper homemade food. The chicken curry was lovely and my wife's hunters chicken was enormous and homemade. No microwave here.... ;-)

We holiday in area each year & this is our third visit. This place is an odd little set up a cafe within a pub. You must purchase your drinks separately from the bar. We always find the same greeting, have you booked? No, right you can sit over here. Only one other couple in there so hardly packed to the rafters. I had decided what we wanted to eat & went up to the till area to be greeted with I presume the owner grumpily taking our order as apparently if I had stayed seated a waitress would of come over. I offered to sit back down. When ordering food after each item I got yes, yes, yes. Zero conversation or interaction. Food is average, quick & easy. We eat for convenience as for welcoming warm environment I wouldn't recommend it for that. We also commented we were greeted the same last year. We have since found another local pub that does home cooked food who seemed much more grateful for our business.

Extremely friendly staff, including the bar. Very reasonable bar prices!! The place looked busy and the restaurant was ready to close but they accommodated 6 of us. We had a short wait for our table to get cleaned, but that gave us a chance to nip through to the bar for a drink. After ordering food we got told that a couple of things had sold out, which was to be expected late on a Saturday, a quick re order was made. The food was really nice!! A beautiful curry, the steak and ale pie is superb, lovely lasagne, nice crisp scampi and the kids meals are a perfect size and quality. Really friendly staff aswell.

But metropolitan standards the menu may look very trendy but the execution of these pub classics is superb. I had proper steak and kidney pudding, homemade and with proper gravy. The cask beer is Welsh and well kept

Dropped in at 4pm on a Friday with a hungry child, more in hope than expectation, and the full menu was available, hurray. Enjoyed a half of pale ale (DD liked her ginger beer). My Chile con carne was delicious and her sizeable cheese burger vanished so I think it was good too. Would definitely return if in the area again, recommended.

Proper village pub. Landlord is a top bloke. Great food by Jayne. Lounge bar for quiet drinking and the saloon bar for party time. Seating outside for100 people, 90% covered. Sambuca heaven.

Not the warmest of welcomes on arrival but it improved after a while. It was disappointing that a lot of things were not available, it felt like we were guided to certain meals because it was an easy option. The portions were generous but the food was only average, and a little expensive for what it was. It certainly wasn't the most comfortable atmosphere we've known.

Had an excellent Sunday roast at The Railway Inn today. Plenty of meat, lovely roast potatoes and parsnip, a Yorkshire pudding, a separate dish of 3 veg and a dish of cauliflower cheese served with a boat of gravy. The veg was cooked to perfection. We came away stuffed. Thank you to the cheerful staff.

We had a lovely evening meal. Hubby had home made veg curry, it was ghe best veg curry I've had. Loaded with veg and beans. Home made tiramisu was lush. They let us park over night in the car park. Thank you Railway Inn.

Myself and my wife visited whilst in Borth. We went to the bar and whilst a man behind the bar said hello he otherwise ignored us and proceeded to serve a local who walked in after us. Another barman appeared and I asked him if they were serving food and from what time. He said he had no idea and suggested we went to another area of the pub to find out. I them ordered a pint of Butty Bach and the barman returned with a half pint. After that I gave up and took my business elsewhere on the basis I ) the locals take priority over strangers 2) staff have no knowledge of the business they are running and 3) staff do not listen to customers. So don't expect a nice welcome or good service at the Railway Inn in Borth, as you will be disappointed on both counts. In my humble opinion, the management of this pub need to have a bit of a rethink about their approach to first time customers. We left before we had the opportunity to try either their food or the real ale on offer, so cannot comment on either.

One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve ever had. The beef and pork were both delicious with plentiful vegetables and excellent gravy. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely highly recommended

Great little pub on Borth high street. A few interesting guest beers and a few games of pool and you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

I’ve visited Borth many times over the past few years. The Railway Inn is a wonderful pub. Several real ales are available. The staff, landlady and landlord are very friendly. There is also a restaurant attached. I would highly recommend a visit.

Just had the best Sunday lunch ever at Jaynes at the Railway Inn A plate full of lovely roast beef roast potatoes roasted parsnip Yorkshire pud stuffing a side dish of cauliflower cheese and a dish of carrots green beans and broccoli and a gravy boat full of meaty gravy . Jaynes at The Railway restaurant : excellent home cooking with super salads. Hadn't been there for 12 months and asked for a meal from the old menu because we enjoyed it so much. Not only was this no trouble but they improved it. Steak baguette covered with cheese, onions,mushrooms chips and super salad.

No trip to Borth is complete unless you’ve been to the railway!! The food is wonderful and filling Jayne won’t let you go hungry the land lord is warm and friendly along the locals!!

We popped in for some drinks on a Friday evening and were instantly made to feel unwelcome by some guy behind the bar and his mates sitting at the bar. They were making comments and acting threatening towards us. I overheard a female also working...

We all travelled to Borth for the father in laws 70th birthday, and he organised a meal for us all ....all 22 of us the food was amazing not one complaint and all empty plates well worth a visit

Called in for dinner, plenty tables set. Only a couple reserved. We were told there was no place available? Closes at 6pm? It's 4pm.....very disappointed! Definitely check if you will be allowed to eat here before buying your drinks.

The ladies who run the restaurant are just lovely - they were brilliant with the children, who were fairly boisterous! They also served the children first, which so many restaurants get wrong! Lovely food - we had home made lasagne, chicken curry and steak and...

Called in here on two occasions whilst staying at the Parkdean site down the road. Very friendly and warm welcome, great selection of alcohol and the food was great.

Lovely pub with a good choice of drinks. Well kept local real ale. Welcoming staff and great food. They were NOT stingy with the portion sizes. The locals were friendly and we really enjoyed our visits.

Restaurant staff are great and very helpful, turned up late with no booking and still got served with no pressure to hurry up at past closing time.
