Lovely pub we found whilst staying nearby, good pub grub well cooked and generous portions.

The food here was lovely. We all went for burgers which were a good size! Plenty of chips on the side and the Coleslaw which accompanied it was also delightful to eat. No desserts had. The staff all seemed friendly. Was on the quiet side, hence the slightly lower rating for atmosphere. Would recommend here for food if you're staying in any of the lodges nearby at Southern Halt.

Good atmosphere friendly Food 75% but tucked up on the wine. We paid £16 for a Morrisins £5 bottle. Still we were tourists

Depends when you go. Overall a nice locals pub with music on at weekends. Lovely beer and good value food, especially the caverey on Sunday.

We recently held a fundraising dinner here. Zoe and Gary, our hosts, went above and beyond in the preparation of our room, the dressing of the tables, the quality of the food served, and the attentive attitude of their staff. Everyone commented on the brilliant time they’d had, and our event raised much needed funds for our most worthy cause. Thank you to everyone concerned.

First visit and had a fantastic welcome from staff and customers, the dogs loved all the fuss.

Rang to ask what time serving food till and was told 5-8pm. Walked in at 6.55pm to be told by a women no more bookings tonight. Customer service nil. Lots of empty tables. Gentleman on phone never advised to book. She said she had taken all the phone calls, simply not true

Very welcoming and food was fantastic and well presented. They had all the allergy information for all the meals which was so helpful. Beer garden was a good size, dog friendly (even for our three labs) and was told we were welcome inside or outside with them. My moody toddler was cheered up with a complimentary bag of haribo and a play on the slide outside.

Went for the carvery after many recommendations, we were very happy, food delicious, staff friendly and efficient, beer cold!!! Fabulous family beer garden, we will be back!!!!

Went to our local tonight, hoping to eat and try the new menu but a long wait so had a drink anyway, not disappointed as we will be back and so glad it was busy and doing so well!

Was there for dinner yesterday, had a lovely meal, staff were very friendly landlords especially. Would definitely recommend, our little dog had a great time too 👍

Dark and dated!!.. has no ambiance whatsoever!.. I haven't tried the food to be fair.. I believe the roast is good?.. so I can't judge!..

Our first time and an impromptu visit for a Sunday carvery. Even though it was close to the end of the carvery service, we were greeted politely and seated. There wasn't much left, but what we had was hot, well cooked and was very nice. Would go again.

I can recommend this pub as amazing. I have asd daughter who struggles in busy places & although I rang and explained I needed a quite corner where we were sat was to much for my daughter........I asked if we could sit somewhere else & without hesitation our table was moved away from people.......totally autism friendly thank you for helping this mum eat a whole meal.

Nice table by a cosy fire for an excellent Ham, egg and chips.

We are visiting from Dorset, stopped and had a carvery which was absolutely delicious. Amazing roasties and a good selection of veg. My husband had a chicken madras and in his words it was “banging”. Proper homemade curry and washed down with a nice pint of Jail Ale. Would highly recommend!

Food average. I think Chef Mike overcooked the meat and was very hard. Bit disappointed really. Chips were tiny scraggy ends. Must have been end of the bag.

Myself and my wife went here for a Sunday lunch, we are local to the area and this is our first time visiting. I will summarise below what we thought of the highwayman. The good points; - The pub itself is easy to find, has great parking and a good website. - The pub is generally clean, well laid out and has a fire going, which is nice. The bad points; - When we arrived we walked in, and could see another table being seated by a member of staff, we waited our turn, but unfortunately we had to stand in the center of the pub for at least 5 minutes, the staff seemed overwhelmed and unsure of how many bookings they were expecting. We pre booked a table over the phone, but they were unable to find this. They managed to seat us which was good. The pub is brandishing an "under new management" sign, so maybe they just need a moment to settle into their new system? - After we were seated, it wasn't explained to us that we were to order at the bar, we only found this out after we overheard another table being told so. When seated, our table was slightly sticky, but otherwise clean and in a good spot. - When ordering, we were told that I couldn't have a larger carvery, as there was an issue with the meat order. (Although, I have to say the meat portions given on the regular is substantial enough). - The carvery. Over all the food is average-mediocre, for £13.95 I'm not expecting Michelin star dining, but this could definitely be better. 1. When we were served, it was by a man in a plain T-shirt (I would expect serving staff to be in whites? Or at least dressed in the highwayman shirts the floor staff were wearing? This is a minor point but I feel it worth mentioning.) He also used tongs from the roast potatoes to handle pork crackling and then put them back, which for vegetarians could be problematic. 2. Meat. The pork ran out so only one of us could have any, it was tasty but a little dry. I had beef which was okay but again, well done. The chicken on the counter looked very dry and decided to avoid this. 3. Veg/sides. The vegetable selection is wide, although not cooked very well, big lumps in the swede, overcooked cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese, bad roasties, and sweetcorn? The Yorkshire puddings were good and so was the gravy. The stuffing was generic box stuffing. To summarise, the general feel is that this is very much a "locals" pub that happens to serve a carvery. The staff seem overwhelmed and I would say the management just needs to be stepped up a notch for this to be a good venue for people wanting more than just a full stomach. *In the reply you have lied, the server was wearing a jack wills t shirt.

Had Sunday lunch going on the previous reviews. The chicken was in small lumps not slices, pork was in strips. Beef seemed OK. Unfortunately only the roast potatoes were hot, everything else was just warm. Server called two older ladies ' you guys' as she did to other tables. This is so bad mannered. The music was far too loud , certainly not background, one had to shout across the table to be heard. As the room was full there was no need for the volume. On finishing our meals ,I think it was the landlady,cleared the plates as we finished not waiting till both of us had finished, it happened on other larger tables, taking each empty plate one by one. This is definitely a no no.

What can I say, it was lovely. Booked for 10 of us to have the Xmas menu. Great communication from the off. Table was decorated, but I added a bit extra. Food was lovely. Service was friendly. Will be going back.

Very tasty fish pie and sticky toffee pudding and the ramp made it alot easier for me to get in and out of pub.

We took a risk and booked a table a week before, as we were coming on holiday. It didn't disappoint. It's a lovely pub, the staff were friendly and the Sunday carvery was beautiful with a nice choice of veg. Would definitely recommend

What a lovely quaint little pub. Had a lovely carvery extremely generous portions all fresh ingredients. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. If you would like a relaxed atmosphere and a roast , just like your grans then this is the place. Also dog friendly.

Came here for a Sunday roast, food was ok but to me it was an average Sunday dinner that you would get at any chain pub. Unfortunately desert was worse.. I ordered a chocolate orange melt that they must have frozen as although it was warm on the outside of the cake it was still frozen in the centre.

We called on short notice for a Sunday lunch after our plans at another place fell through. The woman who greeted us was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was delightful, and the food exceeded my expectations. The cauliflower cheese was incredibly cheesy, and the gravy was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place.

Pointless going unless reserved. For a family on holiday not knowing the area and hungry. Not happy at all.

Such a lovely little pub! Just went and had a meal with partner and 2 young children, menu looks abit pricey but the portion sides was massive so well worth the money, lovely music playing in the back ground and the 2 staff we saw (gentleman behind the bar and lady who brought our food) was lovely and welcoming. Will remember this little gem of a place when we re visit Cornwall next year. Thank you for a lovely meal

Had a lovely meal with young family and our manic dog this week. Owner couldn’t have been more helpful. Great vegan and veggie menu. Such unique surroundings and definitely recommended.

!st time using this place to eat in about 15 years. Food very good. Service, excellent. Requested to be moved as grandson`s legs would not go under the table we were allocated. Lots of smiles & immediately accommodated. Will certainly go again.

We came for roast dinner - carvery and it was lovely, The gammon was a bit different so not for me but the beef was good, lovely staff and would come back again thank you 😊

First time here as moved to Dobwalls 6 months ago. Food was nice. One of the bar staff completely ignored me when I tried to order food and the other just looked at me and said "that till". No please or anything. Also in the gents either someone has a poor aim or theres a leak. That's a real shame. I will try again for a Sunday lunch.

Awful,kids play on pool table, barstaff chatting and larking around with 2 young men at bar ignoring me,then poured a whole bottle of tonic in my gin when I only put half in then when I said wow,she said oh it's habit?? No over of redoing my drink. Pub very rodie and noisy. Used to be a lovely pub.

What lovely host amazing pub will have to go back to take it all in. Had a lovely meal and camped in our motorhome overnight no chage Husband even got a candle in his meat pie for his birthday. We will be back awesome

Well this pub was really good with a fine roast with a good vibe. No more. Just basic pub food. Rather gloomy. Not much atmosphere unless drinker or smoker.

We had a lovely tasty carvery from here today. The Chef was very nice. Plenty to eat and choose from. .Hot and well cooked. We took our two dogs and we were shown to our table and called when ready. Given a bowl of water for the dogs. Treated well. Thank you will come again.

We pop in for an evening meal while on holiday, the lady that served us was lovely didn't catch her name but she had very short blond hair she couldn't do enough for us and really engaged with the kids which was amazing. We had starters and mains and it was lovely the tagliatelle was really nice. Next time we are down this way again we will definitely go back.

Some of the best food we have eaten while out. You can taste its freshly made. Plus it's got a dog menu for the furry friends in your life.

Good food and drink at very reasonable prices. Plenty of parking space. Selection of ales rather limited - just two, with no pale ales even though Tribute is Cornwall's best selling beer. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Good food and plenty of it. Really friendly and helpful staff, tall guy with blond hair was brilliant. Only downside was the disabled entrance was locked.

The service was excellent and the meal.was good.value for money. Was good to see so many dog owners out enjoying a meal with their pets. We had the carvery at £12.95 a head. The meat quality and quantity was excellent the vegetables needed more cooking and they should keep it simple and do it well rather than trying to be too flashy with the vegetables and ensure they are suitably cooked.

Kind staff. Small selection of drinks on draw. Sunday lunch was, how can I put it, 'different' from those already eaten before. A mixture of overly strong flavors and potatoes that have been cooked for some time. Sorry but I didn't look good.

How this got good reviews for a Sunday roast I don't know. Was terrible the parsnips,carrots and veg in general was rock hard and looked uncooked,same goes for the roast potatoes. Only edible bit was the meat. Worst roast I've had.

Welcoming and clean with a good range of food on offer. Finding a table was no problem. The beef chilli con carne was a generous portion and really tasty. The breakfast was again a generous portion, non greasy and full of flavour. Would highly recommend a pit stop here 😀

They honestly seemed surprised when we arrived at 1pm for lunch. Staff were very nice, but service was astonishingly slow. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out, with no one warning us about this, nor saying anything during the wait. The food was nice though!

Had all day breakfast not very good

Really disappointing. Quite bad food, quite bad service. We had some of the garlic prawns as a starter. £8.25 for 4 prawns swimming in burnt butter! For our mains they got half the order wrong wanted gammon egg and chips and got cold ham. And my burger was so tough I couldn't cut through it let alone bite it. Overly sweet with the brioche and swimming in onion chutney from a jar. When asked if everything was OK? I replied "Its not great I'm afraid" to which the waiter replied with "Oh ok" and walked off. Nothing more was said even when we paid our bill. Not great
