The Highway in East Riding of Yorkshire

3rd time visit for fish and chip Friday. Was not disappointed. The fish comes with chips, your choice of garden or mushy peas, scraps on the side, tartar sauce and bread and butter. All for less than £10, The beer batter on the fish is light and crisp. Will be definitely be going back a 4th time it was delicious. Served by nice friendly staff

My wife and I went to the Highway with friends for tea. All in all it was excellent. Friendly service, clean glasses, cold beer and great food all at a great price. The best bit really had to be the beer battered fish. We were served the fish, chips, mushy and bread n butter. The fish was perfectly cooked. It flaked as you would expect from a top fish shop. On many occasions we have been served very average fish and chips in different pubs. However, the fish at The Highway far exceeded all expectations. I think the chef is called Tyla. Well done and thank you. We will be back!

The chef was sublime food was cooked to a superb standard the bar staff were efficient polite and very accmodating and unbelivably friendly would highly reccomend this pub for food, just a drink or a night out as entertainment is always very good highly reccomended

Really enjoyable experience during a family visit. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection! Such a friendly atmosphere and definitely recommend! Will visit again for food and drinks!

Great place to be , staff are all lovely so is the landlady :) .great bands on a Friday and a Saturday . It’s the only pub in the area which is dog friendly. Great local pub with nice pub food you can’t beat the curry & grill nights brilliant price . Has two pool tables which is nice after work having a few games .

Very rude and owner treated me like a criminal. I entered the pub 23rd may 2022. I suffer with type one diabetes and I was also driving so had no interest of drinking alcohol especially at 12 o clock. Anyway I bought a bottle of water. I then decided to put £10 of my money into the fruit machine. I had played the machine less than a minute when I was approached and asked to stop playing the machine. When I asked why I was told that strangers couldn’t come in an play the machine even though it’s a public house where strangers do this. She said she had probably annoyed me. I said you have probably saved me money. She then turned off the machine I was playing even though I agreed not to play it and the other machine. I literally had just gone in the pub to kill half an hour as I was meeting someone at 12:30. The way she was with me was dreadful she made me feel like a criminal for going into a public place and doing what anybody is entitled to do. I pointed out the machine will win overall as that’s why they are there. I was also told I could stay and drink in the pub but after this attitude and rudeness with me it’s not really going to be a place I will stay. Am not exactly going to come here with friends and family in a weeks time now am I. She is running a bar not a bank I wasn’t in to rob the place and it’s a public place she should understand how to treat customers. I won’t be going back in this establishment ever again in the future.

We visited for food and drinks for my daughter’s birthday, all 10 of our group really enjoyed our meals, the food was gorgeous. We were served quickly and the staff were great, all very friendly and professional. Will definitely eat here again.

The grill night was something we looked forwards to but everything has to come to an end I guess. Mainly prompted by the exclusion of drinks from the offer. The grills were okay but nothing that we couldn't have found anywhere else and maybe better. Being able to wash our meals down with a pint of our favourite beverage included in cost of meal was what sold it to us. Oh well, maybe it's time to see what Sizzling pubs has to offer.

Great place, great atmosphere but the food is terrible, the hunters chicken looked like sick on a plate, the steak was very fatty and the chips were awful, I've been warned to avoid all meals except the burgers or the curry, I wouldn't recommend eating here but its great for a drink

Go into Highway most days of the week while out on my walk with George my Staffordshire, always made very welcome by staff and the locals, well kept beer always a bonus

My husband and I came here for a quick bite. It was absolutely fab. The food tasted amazing, large portions and very decent price. Very friendly and happy atmosphere. Staff were great with kids and nothing was a problem. Will definitely be going back again and taking our young daughter. Kids menu look great. Thank you.

The snowman burger was excellent, it filled me so it was worth every penny, the staff were very nice and Jo the owner runs a nice pub

Regular visitors to highway. Great pub, excellent value food and drink. Our family is always welcome. Boys Iove the wi fi and the slushes!! Landlady is happy to help and will always accommodate where possible.

Lazy staff, no interaction. Waited 20 minutes for a drink even though it's really quite. Regulars get served immediately. Don't think I'll call in again!

Had the moving mountains B12 burger 🍔 fantastic vegan meal, I’m not vegan but really enjoyed this delicious meal.

Came here with my partner after going bouldering for a quick meal, had the cauliflower wings and vegan lasagna. Really good quality and flavour, great price too! Really enjoyed, will be back to try our way through the vegan menu :)

Go for a weekly gammon and chips with my partner. It's okay but more likely to arrive burned these days.

Last night we visited The Highway Inn on Willerby Road. There were 3 of us - 1 vegan & 2 meat eaters. We were very glad we did. Despite there being a big football match on the large screens, we had a really good time. This pub is how pubs should be - a real mix of different ages & people - it was buzzing although the bar staff did say this was because of the big match. Somehow the big match did not dominate the pub - it was just part of it. As non-football fans we were not deafened by it & did not feel out of place. As a vegan it can be difficult to eat out with non-vegans. Not so with this pub. All of us absolutely loved our food & enjoyed our evening immensely. The staff were wonderful- friendly, polite, efficient. My vegan food was delish (mushroom pie, chips, peas, carrots & vegan gravy followed by chocolate tart & vegan ice cream) was really really nice & unbelievably cheap (£6.50 main, £2.50 dessert). The meat eaters were equally happy with their food & experience & we will definitely be coming back here. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I visited this pub for an evening meal. I ordered vegan tikka masala off the specials board. They brought me Lasgne. I complained & they took it back. They then brought me what was meant to be Vegan Tikka Masala. It had some form of stretchy animal fat, gristle & connective tissue in it. On 1st glance I though it must be some kind of vegetarian meat but it wasn't. The texture of the tissue in it was like the scraps & waste of animal meat, possibly catfood. I will never eat there again. I won't eat there again.

We have been several times in the past as always a good choice of vegan meals.

We make a point of getting all the family together every few weeks and going out for tea. We go to Papas or Highway. Last night it was The Highway, booked ahead for 7 plus a high chair. All set up when we arrived and service throughout was excellent. 6 adults with a variety of steaks, brunch, kids meals and three from the innovative veggie/vegan menu. All arrived together, well cooked, nicely presented and in pleasant surroundings - what more can you ask? Cost was less than you would expect and this must be the best pub locally for a midweek tea.

Accomodating to group needs . Food order done before arrival. Meal arrived quickly and officiantly.

The highway is friendly welcoming pub, staff very friendly, food excellent, we have used this venue for family get togethers with people coming from as far as Scotland, and every one loved it.

I absolutely love this pub. Live music every week and lovely, friendly staff. The choice of food here is amazing. It has all the usual type of food but has always added extra options for vegans and vegetarians. A brand new vegan menu has recently been introduced and I had the pleasure of sampling it today ... absolutely delicious, so tasty. I intend to work my way through the entire menu! I would highly recommend this menu, and venue, to anyone. Keep up the good work guys!

I have been with OH on a number of occasions over the past couple of years, generally on a Thursday evening. They have a grill night special, last year it was a free drink with any grill, this year it is two grills for £12 .

We visted our local pub to have some food and to have a few drinks whilst the horse racing was on.

Called again today. Got a new menu.we had steak chips and peas with onion rings. Also scampi curly fries.all food cooked lovely. All the staff very polite and friendly. Decor very nice. This place is well worth a visit.

We had our lunch here today. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was served very quickly and it was lovely and hot. A very good choice of food. Gammon chips @peas plus a fried egg. GREAT. ALL TABLES VERY CLEAN there puddings are also very good. We will call again.

Well for £5.95 minus the pint of Foster's at £2.80 I think £3.00 for a chicken burger and chips was fantastic.

During a recent night out we saw they did a "Curry night special" where you got a curry (5 to choose from) and a drink for £5.45, so decided to give it a try. I opted for the chicken tikka masala and my husband the beef madras (there was chicken korma, belly pork and a vegetarian option also). The dish came with rice or chips (or for £1 extra you can get both) a poppadom, plain naan and mango chutney. You can choose from an alcoholic or soft drink aswell as part of the offer. The food came out hot and was very tasty. There was plenty of rice or chips too. The service was helpful and friendly, which was very welcome. We really enjoyed the food and the pub and will be back to try the "burger night" on a Tuesday or "grill night" on a Thursday to see how they are. Great pub and great staff.

They have a range of vegan options including cakes and other puddings. I had spicy carrot and lentil soup, lentil curry and hot fudge cake with vegan custard, all of which were lovely. It is so nice and unexpected to find vegan options in a pub.

I am reviewing this place before I even leave - I am that impressed. We popped in after seeing on Happy Cow that they offer vegan options. We were not disappointed!! Several soups, main courses and desserts were available. I had country vegetable soup, puy lentil curry and chocolate sponge pudding with custard.

Me and my partner live close by and we love going to highway, but we recently went with visiting family, I don't know if the barman was new as I'd never seen him before, but he was the rudest person I'd ever spoken to, we began ordering our drinks and after saying our first drink he took himself off to get it at the other bar, he came back and asked for the rest of our order so we went to tell him what we wanted, he then interrupted saying 'tell me what you're all having so I don't keep walking back and forth' the way he said it was rude and frankly lacked customer service as we were about to tell him what we wanted, he then only asked 2 of us what we wanted and went off to get 3 of the same drink, my auntie hadn't even told him what she wanted. Anyway we let it slide until we wanted to open a tab. A woman who we believe to be a manager was there who explained to the bar man how to do a tab was rude also, we think because we aren't locals. My auntie said she didn't want to leave her card behind the bar unless they had a lockable safe, the bar manager said well you ain't having a tab then. This obviously took us back, so we decided to not eat here, which is a shame because the food is really nice. The bar manager went on to say if you were a local it would be fine because if you left without paying we could just message you on Facebook whereas we can't. So we had our drinks and left. Nothing in what they said was out of order it's the way in which they said it, I'm a debt collector and even I have more respect for my customers than these 2 did! So disappointed. The one star for the review is because due to us leaving we had a wonderful meal down the road at hop pole!

Went in Thursday night which was 'Grill night' which resulted in us having a choice of free drinks if we selected a meal from the grill menu. I chose the mixed grill and OH chose the rump steak. The meals were served in good time and were piping hot and well cooked. It is a family pub so expect plenty of kids running around but no complaints about the food or the value less than £15 including drinks.

Stopped off here for some lunch and we had the brunch which was lovely and great value. The staff were so friendly and even came outside to see if we wanted more drinks which they brought to us :). Lovely pub and will definitely be visiting again soon.

Our new local and great to have a good value pub on our doorstep. The food is typical pub food but is great value served by really friendly staff. The menu is supplemented by a board of specials which were all that bit different and tempting. A great choice for Veggies and Vegans and people like me who fancy a change. Looking forward to many more visits/

I've had some nice steaks here with peppercorn sauce. Not bad at all. Its a pleasant pub with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Times they are a changing. A specials board full of vegan options with sweets too. Excellent I've been 4 times now never had a bad meal. And the manager is very friendly and helpful.

We've always known the Highway as a good place to catch a band on a Saturday night, but this time visited on a Sunday afternoon, as a group of seven, for a family birthday meal.
