The Herbert Kilpin in Nottingham

Love this little cafe bar tucked away in an inner courtyard in the Lace Market. Fabulous selection of beers including some Belgian favourites on tap such as Cherry Chouffe and Bruges Zot. Frie dly staff and pleasant garden if the weather permits.

The Kilpin never let's you down with it's ever changing menu. We had the squash and sweet potatoe burger with fries and the vegan hot dog with fries. The burger was lovely and the hot dog was fabulous, it was a moving mountain one and they make superior fake meat products so I am always glad to see them on the menu. The fries were lovely and crispy everything was well cooked and seasoned but the star if the show were the frickles. The portion was HUGE (and only £3.50), the batter was crisp and flavorful and they were accompanied with a lovely mustard mayo that complemented them perfectly. Best frickles ever. Service was as always, quick and friendly.

Top tier in beer selection. Usually plenty of room, with outdoor option if it’s nice out. Tucked away so usually just has ppl who know how to find it. Great staff.

Just when you think the food could not get any better, they bring out a new menu. The small.plates, which I would describe as tapas, are second to none. I don't know how the chef comes up with them. All fresh ingredients, cooked really well, good value for money, extremely tasty and a good choice for the vegetarian and vegan. Top food, lovely beer, good beer choices, nice beer garden.

I can't give service a 5* cos it's a one-delivery experience but the food was Michelin. We had small plates including the: - curried lamb which was balanced and not over-cumined - the crab on a god damn oversized blini which, for a landlocked town, was superb and did not taste retrieved from the Trent - duck croquettes - finally someone who understands that croquettes are too strong for ham, bacon or (Ganesh forbid) veggie options. You need something strong and these are perfect We're moving up in the next couple months; if the chef is still here, he's the owner; if he's not, I'll understand why. Beers good too X

Great beer cafe with a really nice selection of beers. One of the few places with Belgian beers on draught, such as Brugse Zot and La Chouffe blonde. Friendly staff. The cafe has 2 floors and some outside benches and has a nice atmosphere.

I came for a Sunday roast today and was left feeling still hungry, underwhelmed and overall feeling like I should have gone and spent my money somewhere else. The service was poor and not very social or friendly, I also waited over half an hour for my food that had clearly been microwaved and came out before we got cutlery. The portion of food was tiny for how much it cost and even though it did taste nice I was unsatisfied and felt like I'd been ripped off. As well as also being charged £2.50 for a soda water... It's a shame because the location and building are really beautiful

Had a lovely lunch here last Sunday. Food was excellent, service was brilliant, our server was so welcoming and helpful. She recommended we visit Black Iris Brewery which we did. Compliments to the chef here, as that lunch was the best we've had for a long time. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

Eclectic multi level Belgian style brown bar in a little ginnel beside the ibis hotel well worth finding for it's great range of ales and continental beers.

We have eaten here before, the food is always good and just when you thought it not possible, they up their game. It was food you would expect at a very good restaurant and yet it is in a pub. We had the Welbeck sourdough bread with spiced tapenade, the chicory with goats cheese, the macaroni, the peppers with manchego, the hassleback potatoes and the beetroot and yoghurt salad. There are a number of places that do Tapas but The Kilpin's dishes far and away exceed all of these. The flavours in all of the dishes were excellent, it was hard to pick a favourite dish (the macaroni cheese just shaded it over the sourdough and tapenade). It was all very well cooked and presented, the ingredients were all super fresh. The service was quick and friendly. There is a good vegetarian choice and some of the veggie dishes had vegan options. Fantastic all round.

A very lucky find , excellent choice of beers on tap and bottles. Food, staff and venue above and beyond expectations can't recommend enough well worth a trip to Nottingham.

A must visit if you want to enjoy a great beer and an unbeatable atmosphere. The staff is undoubtedly its strongest point, super friendly and willing to advise you if you are not an expert. They have a great terrace that they share with other pubs with the same characteristics. Of the best!!!

As a woman in her 50s I was with 8 professional freinds for no reason at all they refused to serve us due to one of our party just showed us his shoulder tattoo we were not loud just talking not drunk due to that they refused to serve us the manager was rude ignored us we went next door and a female member of staff was rude sarcastic my son is older and I'd never allow him to be that ignorant i'v been to licences and taking this further and they should have CCTV we will not be accused of something we didn't do ruined our freinds Birthday

My favourite pub on earth. Best Belgian beers on offer in a quiet location, bit on the pricey side but a nice treat. Will definitely be back for a pint of La Chouffe, my latest favourite Belgian beer!

The food is excellent here, perfect to have for lunch or as a light snack with drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is friendly.

Love this pub, it's location and it's beers. But please please please put the beer in the correct glass. Zot beer goes in a Zot glass please. Its a pet hate of mine 🤔

Went first to this pub with my children, and have been back a few times now. Loved the atmosphere, the beer was outstanding, staff very friendly and helpful and welcoming, going back today with my husband, we love it there, cant recommend this place enough. Thanks to all the staff.

Friendly welcome, excellent choice of beers of all kinds, food was delicious and delivered quickly. The place is dog friendly too. We visited on a relatively quiet lunchtime but there was a nice atmosphere. The layout is conducive to a good eating and drinking experience.

Superb pub with an excellent selection of beers (Belgian and German particularly) and it shows the football which is a rare combination.

The kilpin is situated down a discrete alley and offers the best continental beer selection in the city centre imo, it’s a great setting and a nice relaxed getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. We’ll always visit whenever we are in town for a few drinks.

Excellent bar, nooks and crannies for seating, private convo, quiet laptop working, belgian and german beers selection wonderful, they do burgers which were reasonably priced and tasty, WiFi decent, ambience decor and overall vibe lovely on first floor area, clean, great place for daytime and evening drinks 👍

Nice beer and a nice environment, although not as good when popular sports are on (like football). The outside joining area to Junkyard is good too, especially if you're not a beet drinker

Great staff and nice beers but it was so cold in there last night, I don’t think I’ll be back until the spring. Back door wide open so kept asking for it to be shut, couldn’t enjoy it as absolutely freezing. A shame as I do love this pub!

A nice pub that sells a variety of drinks. I'm don't drink alcohol but they also had a nice range of non alcoholic and alcohol free drinks. My friends who do drink were impressed with the range here. You can hire the top floor for parties and events.

⅔ beers next door at pint prices, manageress in green vinyl skirt very offended about constructive criticism even though never spoken to her... £4.40 quite reasonable until she asked me to leave mid-way through, only a pub(s) for the conformists it seems... Edit: It seems I hit a nerve with the amateur bartender (manageress?), my dimple comments were light hearted compliments as I have them myself, I fear there must be an oversensitive policy here as I certainly didn't do anything to deliberately offend any staff members. I will always call out ⅔ beers at pint prices as seems to becoming a trend in some establishments...

The Kilpin Beer Cafe its correct name is a great place tuck away from the busy areas of Nottingham, with a stylish atmosphere and football shown as well, a must for a pint or two.

Good selection of Belgium beers.

After just one visit (and numerous since) this place has quickly become my favourite ale house in Nottingham; for fans of Belgian beer, you absolutely can't go wrong - they always have Zot, Leffe and Delirium on tap, amongst countless other guest beers. Add to this the beautiful decor, easygoing atmosphere and pleasant beer garden, and it's easy to see why the Kilpin has become a must-visit if you're in the city (if you can ignore the cries of anguish from your liver for an hour or two). EDIT: It's La Chouffe on tap, not Leffe!

Really friendly atmosphere. Love it here. We always sit in the front garden but the upstairs has little nooks that look cozy and the garden is beautiful

Update- another great lunch had here, with a selection of different meals. Really tastey food and of course always a great selection of beers. I will be back. Old-Lovely spot, walked in for some food and stayed for a few pints. For the price and the setting it's def worth it, I will definetely be back. They had the rugby on, but it was not noisey and its definetely not a sports bar. The food was great with some nice vegterian options.

This is one of mine and my girlfriends favourite places to go, she loves the fruit beers on draft which arent available many places else and the food is unreal! the currywurst loaded fries is our go to and the high quality produce on the deli platter is amazing. The staff are so lovely and we always feel welcomed, would recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and great beer!

A hidden gem of a place, nice and cosy inside. The staff make you feel welcome and there is plenty of choices of drink for all. Seating inside and out with an upstairs room which can be hired. A cute cafe I really like.

This bar, which specialises in Belgium beers, is a bit difficult to find but well worth the effort. It has quite a large outside seating area and atmospheric interior. We enjoyed a Zot beer and a La Chouffe beer which were both on draft along with a number of other Belgium beers. We really enjoyed our visit even though it made us quite nostalgic for those holidays in Europe.

Great interior (exposed brickwork, original beams, vintage posters) with a wide selection of beers at standard pricing. Staff were personable on both visits - good music and decor with some books scattered around upstairs. Recommend in particular for a quiet midday drink and a good read. I'm really glad the Kilpin changed their MO from cask pub to European Beer Café. It's really nice to be able to get decent a variety of Belgian bottles from somewhere in Nottingham. Also at the time of visiting, they had La Chouffe, Zot and Saison Dupont on tap too which is not a common sight. Really nice atmosphere, great staff and they're starting to do a few events now which is great. They often play sports (including cycling!) on a big projector downstairs and still manage to keep a nice relaxed atmosphere.

The Herbert Kilpin is a great pub I've been to on previous trips to Nottingham, alway enjoyed dropping by this pub and so it proved on our latest visit. I love the look of this pub, located in a beautiful secluded street, a wonderful looking building, the interior is superb, light and airy, nice decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a really good pub to chill out in. My twinny Stephen and myself dropped in on a Thursday evening, a good atmosphere in the pub, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we enquired about their ipa's, he gave us a run down on what was on offer and then served us a pint each of one of the best ipa's I've tasted in a long time,a well crafted ipa, hoppy but not overhopped ,a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, a classic ipa ,it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and served by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub and are very knowledgeable about the beers they serve. We really enjoyed our ipa's and the great vibe in here so much so that we ended up staying for another ipa each before moving on and as on previous visits to The Herbert Kilpin we had a totally wonderful beer experience. The Herbert Kilpin is easy to locate along Bridlesmith Walk . Opening hours are; Monday & Tuesday, Closed. Wednesday & Thursday, Midday till 11pm. Friday & Saturday, Midday till Midnight. Sunday, Midday till 8pm. A wonderful pub its a pub I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area.

Truly for the beer connoisseur with an extensive menu whilst also accommodating of other tastes. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and great service. Hidden away off the busy street, the more adventurous minded traveller will find themselves in a cosy haven.

Yay The Kilpjn is open. Very pleased to visit yesterday. I found everything well organised, loads of social distancing and hand sanitizer, good quick friendly table service and a nice atmosphere. I have heard there is a new chef, we tried the food and had a vegan saltado (dirty fries essentially) and 3 tapas dishes, jackfruit koftas, patatas bravas with chickpeas and curried cauliflower cheese. All were very tasty, properly seasoned using good fresh ingredients and well presented and the portions were huge. The curried cauliflower cheese in particular was just delicious. All at a very reasonable price. A very good experience all round. Hopefully be back soon, variants allowing.

Just wanted to say how lovely and attentive the staff were last night. Table service was great, they were so efficient.

Have been several times now and will be going back again soon! One occasion was with a group of friends (some very picky eaters) and all of our meals were delicious. It was difficult to chose what to have as there is a great selection available on the menu! Have also been for a Sunday lunch which was incredible; best in Nottingham! The staff there are friendly and accommodating and I’m looking forward to my next visit!
