Went to the Hennessy Newbury racecourse with friends and after a two hour drive from London are asking why did we bother. Not at all surprised the place was half empty as many people must have been here before and thought the same as us, how bad is this. Possibly the corporate scene has moved on as we are now being bombarded with Jockey Club emails asking us to go but at £125 per head we can eat in Michelin star restaurants for the same price and believe me after this KFC is looking good. First course disgusting, a rubbery chicken mousse with chorizo, bland white and tasteless. Mains were braised beef so salty it made our mouths water so was inedible and went back to be changed for the Guinea Fowl which was dry but edible but not enjoyable, deserts don’t even bother there just sugar. Possibly this is bought in catering at its worst even the bread was whiter than an advert for Ariel washing powder. I Guess that if we hadn’t spent £250 on champagne and wine no one here could actually sort it out or knew what could be done. We did get a discount of £96 but this couldn’t be refunded on the day so we’re now calling to sort that out. This place is getting quieter and is going the same way as Windsor racecourse where the restaurant is just as bad. I don’t know or care what other people eat or thought as that’s not my problem and I’m not interested in Newbury response as it’s the same old gumpf they troll out to everyone. Horse racing is fine but for gods sake sort out the restaurant and change the caterers as this is ridiculous pricing for what amounts to a sub standard meal for £250 excluding drinks, plus don’t send me emails asking for my opinion when it’s geared to corporates and not individuals who own or enjoy horse racing.

The chips and curry sauce were great but the fish was dreadful, I ordered a medium partly as there were only small ready cooked, and I wanted something cooked fresh (I guess i should have said). I was given 2 smalls that had definitely sat around for a while. One was edible minus the very chewy batter, but the other was very dry, chewy and inedible- really disappointing on a Friday night when I thought they would have high turnover
