The Hemlock Stone in Nottingham

Wouldn’t bother. Tried twice for foo, first time no chef, 2 weeks later no food til after 5! And staff not interested. Why they cant put that on website or a sign is beyond me. Wont be a third visit.

Absolutely awful experience never going back again the food took an hour to arrive despite the fact the pub wasn't busy. The food wasn't hot and not particularly tasty, no one came to ask if we were enjoying our meal. We had to go find someone to clear the plates for our second course didn't seem remotely bothered when we said we didn't enjoy the meal. The desserts were just as bad. Left feeling sick and very disappointed. Best to avoid folks food awful, staff polite enough but either non existent or busy on there mobile phone very unprofessional set up not what I would expect from an Embers Inn.

I left a bad review last month, but decided to give the Hemlock Stone another try today. It felt more welcoming to see the gas fire was on at our arrival, and the radiator was hotter than many times before visits. The food was okay. As mentioned before, the place is desperately in need of a refurbishment. The leather chair that I sat on today had gone. No staff issues to mention.

I regularly use my local Embers Inn near to my house because the food is always good, the prices are good and the atmosphere is nice. We’ve used this one 4/5 times now as we visit the area once a month. Sadly, the Hemlock Stone has let us down every time. The food always seems to take forever and isn’t great when it comes out. We came over at Christmas one evening when it was quiet and ordered their widely advertised big Christmas burger. Sadly, it turned up without any Christmas items and was a very sad looking plain burger. Complaining to staff, they provided us with some of the replacement items that were missing but the bowl of pigs in blankets were cremated. We complained and got a voucher which we used last night. 2x fixed price (Our old favourite at our local). The starters were good but you cant really destroy a chicken wing or mushroom. The chicken burgers came out after a longer wait and were black on both sides but also cold! We complained and the staff were very polite and got us replacements and apologised. The chips always seem to be fried instead of the chips used elsewhere too. I wanted to give this place a chance to prove itself but after our visits, we’ve not had one positive one. The two younger girls behind the bar were very friendly yesterday though and made it better! The atmosphere here is also odd. It’s full of families meeting up but there always seems to be a small group of people who walk in, swaggering around and then sit hidden away in corners whilst shouting through the bar to each other. They often appear either to be using substances or are already drunk when they walk in but it seems to be more than a one off now and odd for such a nice residential area. The group yesterday were openly shouting and swearing near to children and not challenged by any staff at any point. Sadly, this makes it feel slightly uneasy compared to my local. Hopefully things improve, but it needs a kitchen staff overhaul and people challenged suitably to keep the place pleasant for all the families who seem to frequent it.

Remember, when you park in the car part to enter your reg in the machine at the bar. I missed this and accrued a fine of £100 - but the holding and duty managers were very supportive, and cancelled the notice with the Euro Car Parks a couple of weeks later. Overall, everyone in the Hemlock Stone was very helpful and considerate. Thank you.

Venue is pleasant enough but the rest was very disappointing. I ordered the turkey Sunday dinner that was supposed to come with bacon wrapped stuffing. When the plate came out it had three small thin pieces of sliced turkey, and the plate was mainly filled with a Yorkshire pudding and the grave boat. There was no stuffing ball so i went to query this and the waiter had to look at the menu to confirm this. When it came out it was one small ball of stuffing, wish I'd not bothered. No body came to our table to see if everything was ok and the staff seemed non existent all "hiding" in the kitchen. Atmosphere wise it was very quiet for a Sunday afternoon but was also very cold. i realized after a while that the draft we were feeling was coming from an air conditioning vent in the ceiling blowing out cold air. We have eaten at other Ember Inns and enjoyed it but this was the worst we have ever been to, so won't be going there again.

Twice now we've ordered online they have messed up our order. Never again. Bye.

The service was appalling. We were a large party of 24 that had booked in advance for a family gathering and handed in food orders a week in advance. Despite this, the area was not set up with enough seats/tables to accommodate us when we arrived. It took over an hour for the first meal to come out and a further 30mins for the last meal. Some of the meals that came out were cold and had to be sent back, the gravy jugs had to be sent back as the gravy was cold. There was no milk so the coffee machine wasn’t working and a member of our group had to go to the shop across the road and buy a pint of milk to have with their cup of tea. We had to set the table ourselves and the plates from our meals were not cleared away. The restaurant was also freezing cold and there were flickering lights above us which we were told nothing could be done about. After complaining we were all given the opportunity to a free dessert - which took a further 30-45mins to arrive! It was a real shame we had such an awful experience as the food might have been good, if it had been served fresh and hot and within an acceptable time.

Bonito pub amable. Buen servicio, personal amable. No probé la comida, pero vi que salían algunos y se veían bien. Había una fiesta privada de 75 años en un área de funciones separada. El buffet se veía bien y las familias parecían estar teniendo un gran tiempo.

Positive food was fantastic. Negative had to wait 45 minutes from the main course my mum food was wrong and had to sent back.The dirty dishes and coffee cups was never collected it was freezing cold in the pub. We order desserts normally takes about 15 minutes it took 40 mins no apology for the wait if we know the wait was going to be this long we would have not ordered it. Would not go again as waiting the best part of 90 mins for food is quite frankly ridiculous

Use to be lovely place but just recently gone down hill, looking a bit tired inside, lost it cosy atmosphere, food ok, prefer the Cadland in Chilwell

Steve and Leon was brilliant staff! Leon was covering for Zoe from the punch bowl. He was a fantastic addition to the staff at Hemlock Stone. We thoroughly enjoyed coming here and will be back!

Went here for our Christmas Day meal. Firstly not all the starter dishes were taken away before the main meal was served, and one was still left on the table when the deserts came out and we had to prompt the waiter to remove this. The turkey dinners of the main meal were missing the pigs in blankets, as listed on the menu. One of our party had the wellington, which was missing the carrots as advertised on the menu. Along side this, a side order of pigs in blankets had been ordered however we had to prompt the waiter for this, unfortunately they were burnt when delivered. One of my party had ordered a Lemon Roulade, which came out in a glass not dissimilar to a Eaton mess, rather than the being a roulade shape on a plate. And finally the Gingerbread Crème Brûlée that one of my party requested was delivered burnt, and was a normal crème brûlée served with a Biscoff biscuit, missing the gingerbread flavour.

Christmas day meal was lovely we really enjoyed it..it was busy and the staff were under pressure but still gave good service..would definitely say we had a good day.. thanks to all who gave up their day for us ..

We visited on Saturday even8ng without a booking and experienced great service, excellent food and a relaxing environment. Thank you to the whole staff. Especially the chef, for the delicious food.

Las comidas en sí eran preciosas, casi todos los platos limpios. tardamos 45 minutos en ser servidos, a pesar de que pedimos por adelantado como éramos 14 de nosotros. Y también estaba bastante vacío. Entonces uno de nosotros todavía estaba esperando otros 10 minutos, tuvo que ir y preguntar dónde estaba.

Pub was too cold. Booked a table on line but no allocated table on arrival. Long wait for food order , without reason. Missing items off meals, no-one came to check if we were okay during meal. Dirty plates left on our table. Asked for dessert early was told abruptly ‘ it’s being processed’ … Half hour wait for said desserts, dirty plates still on table! Pub was not busy. We usually visit The Cadland same company ( unfortunately it was fully booked) , The cadland is how a pub should be run , Hemlock Stone need to visit and learn!

Muy buen asado de domingo. Generoso tamaño de poción. La carne estaba muy tierna, las verduras cocinadas a la perfección y la salsa deliciosa. Servidor era encantador y muy servicial.

Pleasant & friendly staff. Our visit was on a Monday evening, so really quite quiet. Food was good, but hunters chicken came a little dry. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely.

Everything you expect from a traditional pub. Staff are nice and they do have doggie treats for your furry family member. Food took bit long to serve but the wait was worth it! Keep up the good work, thank you very much :-)

Had the chicken, bacon, avocado salad last night. Swimming in water, which was the dressing. Normally so good, but really bad this time.

Great family pub/restaurant, since taken over the past year or so.. the staff and place is amazing! Food is great! Staff are friendly and very welcoming, dog friendly, great for children.. the beer garden is lovely in the summer too, never had an issue since the 2 new managers have taken over, great environment to be in :)

If like me you have not been in for decades..pop in! Very good all round and an excellent team.. it won't be decades before another visit.

Popped into our local tonight, The Hemlock Stone, for a quick bite to eat and drink. The staff were friendly and professional, the pub itself was warm and convivial. We ordered the Lasagne and Hunters schnitzel, which I must say was delicious, definitely a favourite. Just thought it was a pleasant evening and thought the staff deserved recognition, so well done 👏

Chain pub, chain food, nothing exciting but nothing to complain about.

Finally dined as last 2 times we went food was not being served for varying reasons. Recent visit was poor had the beef rib as wanted some veggies I stead of chips. The veg was bad, the roast veg ( think was squash and carrot) were bouncy and the cabbage was rancid. Would have sent it back but was late and I was hungry. Hope this gets addressed as I thought this place had turned a corner.

Went on a busy Thursday, food was still quick and delicious, the bar was packed and still was greeted lovely by a girl with red hair would go again

Very disappointed today with the food veg was hard and burnt .the waitress wasn't very jolly she spilt gravy other table I had to ask her 3 times to wipe it up .spent £75 ON Meals then separate amount on drinks .

Was a little dubious when we walked in and heard a member of staff say ‘ we didn’t have any complaints yesterday’ as if it were surprising. Hardly anyone in the pub but still waited around 35/40 min for food. The mixed grill was pretty much burnt other than the steak, the sausages looked as though they had a trip through bramcote crematorium before my plate. I can honestly say the food at Wetherspoons was better than here so disappointed after recommendations to go here. Money wasted. Genuinely gutted.

Had the Sunday Duo. Stuffing was cold. The vegetables were cold, obviously out of the freezer and were practically raw - steamed? I doubt it. The roast potatoes were also out of the freezer and were probably deep fried - definitely not roasted. The giveaway? All identical size and shape. The "gammon"? More like 2 dried out rashers of bacon. At least the chicken was OK.

We spontaneously decided to go today after quite long time from last visit and all of us absolutely loves. Quality of food was absolutely outstanding and soo much better then last time so around 6 months ago. Everything was fresh and really tasty. Service was excellent, waiting time wasn’t too bad. We definitely come back soon for more delicious food. Place is kids friendly so our son was able to pick favourite meals from special little ones menu section. If you’re around you definitely have to came in and give a try !

Worst place in Nottingham, worst service I have ever experienced, the food and drinks were not good. Will not be returning and I strongly advise anyone against going there. In addition I popped in for a drink and got fined for using their parking for 15 mins, outright outrageous.

Brought my mum for her 79th birthday and my Aunt. We had a lovely lunch, served by Cyrus who was friendly and very helpful. They both had sea bass, I had lasagne. We all cleared our plates! Food was perfect. I'm told the chefs were Zoe and Mike. Would have given 5 stars but the toilets weren't as clean as they should have been.

Great food as always. We had the Sausage and Mash, Scampi and a Braised Beef and couldn't fault any of it. Eton Mess and Crumble were equally as good. Great service with friendly staff. Highly recommend

Absolutely fantastic place, the staff are lovely and very friendly. The place is dog friendly as well, the food is okay it's like I always say it depends on what you like but I've never had a bad meal there and I've been going for a few years now.

The Hemlock Stone Pub certainly offers a setting that promises an enjoyable dining experience, but unfortunately, my recent visit fell short of expectations due to issues with food service and quality. The wait time for our meal was excessively long, over an hour, even though the pub was not particularly busy. When our food finally arrived, it was incorrect and underwhelming. We had ordered a traditional roast dinner but received a dish laden with casserole vegetables accompanied by anaemic chicken legs. The quality of the chicken did not meet the usual standards expected of a comforting roast. The children's meal was also disappointing. The fish fingers were overcooked to the point of being hazardous, posing a risk to dental safety. Such a basic dish should be foolproof in any kitchen, and this was a surprising letdown. Due to the combined issues of the long wait and poor food quality, we asked for a full refund, which the pub processed without issue. We left the meals largely untouched and opted for a more reliable meal option elsewhere. In conclusion, while the Hemlock Stone Pub might have the potential to be a great local spot, my experience was significantly dampened by the service and food quality. Improvements in these areas could potentially make it a much more enjoyable place to dine.

Since doing my first review I have chosen to write more as I do indeed think this place is fantastic, the food is truly delicious, staff are so helpful and polite, nothing is too much trouble at all. I now have business meetings here too and the people I bring really enjoy everything about the place. Well done to Zoe and her team for being very accommodating and professional. Will be back again soon
