The Heavitree - Project X kitchen takeover in East Devon

Good beers on tap, great atmosphere and regular events to get people in for!

Went in about 9.30 on a Saturday night. There was a band playing. Very very loud. Very busy. Probably ok during the day.

I ordered a Cesar salad. The didn’t even bother to cut the lettuce or cut off the bitter bottom part of the lettuce. I got 6 whole leaves with dressing drizzled on top.

Didn't eat. Had drinks of beer and wine listening to The Laurie Ward duo from 5 to 7pm, which was great. A lovely atmosphere too. Bar service was fast and friendly. No real ale, but the kegged Otter Amber was acceptable and tha Sauv blanc okay. Seemed a pleasant, well managed pub, so we'll be back to try the food.

Sunday roast.... really nice....

Had the Sunday roast and it was fantastic. Not your run of the mill plate of carvery, the lamb and vegetables were all superb and prepared beautifully.

Great pub with wonderful food - we had pizza, appetizer combo, and the cheeseburger - all delicious - and great service. We liked it so much we went back the next night!

This place has recently changed hands (July 2024) and it couldn't have gone to better hands! The food and service both amazing! A large group of us ordered and the food all came out at the same time; hot and delicious and with a smile! Wide range of drinks reasonably priced too

Full of drunks,fight started by girl (who had already knocked into me earlier spilling my drink no apology)who threw drink over guy&girl got carried out of pub.Put drink on table within arms reach so I cud dance and both mine and my friend's full drinks got pinched on separate occasions.I mentioned it at the bar and was told not to put my drink on the table!!very expensive drinks more so as I had to buy them again and as soon as the band was finished the staff couldn't wait for us to vacate the premises.Certainly not my best live music pub experience despite the band being amazing as always.

Amazing value, the 2 dogs loved it here too. Food was amazing, could not finish my pizza so they gave me a pizza box to take it away, lovely music, fantastic service and food was excellent. Dogs are allowed and made a fuss of too. Thank you for an amazing visit 5*

Nice pub reasonably priced enjoyed a nice evening, sadly there was disgusting behaviour from door staff to an Oldman.wont be going there again

A regular takeaway spot for us now. The sharer box is everything you could ask for in comfort food and burgers without getting crazy expensive. All of the sides are really nice with punchy flavour, particularly the tempura fries and the pork belly. Until our next order!

I'm a local and thought I'd give this place a try. Staff friendly but gave up waiting for our burgers clearly priority given to takeaway orders. Diners moved for Karaoke session but no mention of this at time of order. Probably asummed you'd get served. 🙄

We popped in for some lunch this afternoon - I had the Korean chicken burger and it was something special! My partner had the hollumi burger which also had a thumbs up 👍 we will be back for more without a doubt!

Popped in here for lunch. Amazing food, chips were soo tasty, belly pork, calamari and halumi fries cooked to perfection and the burger was so good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money. And had some beautiful live music to listen too as well. A great Sunday well spent 🥰

I don't like to criticise a local business. Some good reviews, so clearly others have had a better experience than I did. Service was polite and friendly but the food was dreadful and poor value compared to other Exmouth pubs. The beer was also disappointing. Just adding this review for balance. You can try it and decide for yourself. In my opinion Project X need to up their game considerably. I won't be back.

I've yet to eat here, but have heard some good things, 5 stars for everything else.

We ordered tonight our 1st festive munchie box wow totally amazing every bite 👌 We have food once month on a Friday burgers loaded fries also amazing !! If you haven't give this place a try you won't be disappointed 🥰

We have just had a bottomless brunch here (5pm Saturday) and the service, food and cocktails were amazing! The staff were incredibly attentive and we are all so impressed by the food and drink options. We tried all of the cocktails and they are delicious (and boozy!) thank you for looking after us so well, we will be back!!!

Great food and service, will definitely return

Recently celebrated my birthday here. Live music was very good. A great atmosphere. Staff were excellent and the drinks just kept flowing. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We stayed until closing (last to leave!). We didn't eat here but I'm sure if we had it would have been as great as the service. We saved ourselves for the traditional kebab and cab on the way home. Thanks for the Copious espresso martinis, they were excellent 👌( I had the hangover to prove it....)

Came to celebrate a friend's 50th on Sunday. Absolutely amazing food and the staff were fabulous couldn't fault a thing. If we ever visit Exmouth again this will be our go to place for food. Thank you for a great afternoon.

Went for an early evening meal with my adult grandson. He had the special which was a beefburger with a melting cheese middle. He said it was "Decent" which is high praise from him. I had the courgette and sweetcorn Cajun burger which was very tasty and delicious. The young waitress who served us was friendly and helpful. I've only given 3 stars for atmosphere as there weren't many people in, probably because it was early evening. We will definitely be eating there again.

Amazing bottomless brunch with free flowing Prosecco and yummy food!

I've eaten food here many times, with many different owners, it's always been 'ok'. Recently ate here with some friends, and have to say Project X's food was excellent. We got different dishes to share, and all of it was top-notch. Would highly recommend stopping by for a bite to eat! Well done Project X 👏

On holiday in Exmouth and chose to have some lunch here for our last day. Arrived at 3:20, and asked if we could have a table and the guy informed us the kitchen was closed till 4pm, just enough time for a drink before food. About 3:50pm the same guy attended our table to take our order before the kitchens opened so we were at the front of the queue! Food came soon after and was stunning. Top service, and top food. Menu is a bit limited to pretty much pizzas or burgers, but the burgers we had were bang on.

The, absolute, best pub! Well done to landlords / landlady's and all staff. And, oh my god! You couldn't have secured a better band! 🎶

Had a girly lunch,there were 6 of us.the guy behind the bar was lovely very welcoming showed us to our table took our orders etc.the poor man was run off his feet as he seemed to be alone so was running from the bar to seat people and serve at the bar.we all had different things and on the whole was nice however one of our party ended up with nothing as we had to send her meal back.However it didn't spoil the day and we understand there are teething problems with a new business so we will be back.

Well it's all change at the Heavitree (again). Project X have stepped in to run this "forever failing" pub! One of the nicest pubs in Exmouth in terms of its style and layout, lovely balcony nice fairly sheltered outside space inside with Nook's and crannies and the ever exciting "speakeasy" it has had several good landlords but this new guy is the best yet! The kitchen is buzzing and exciting with lots of new things on offer. We did the first ever bottomless brunch in Exmouth and it was brilliant. The food was bountiful and splendid top quality. The staff were helpful, friendly and kind. The atmosphere was amazing a real mix of people young, mature, local, visitor, just having a drink, having a party but the feeling was lovely. They have loads of cool stuff coming up too. I hope Project X are really successful and are here to stay. I hope lots of people support them... Go try it out you won't regret it.

Fantastic dog friendly place, lovely staff and incredible food. We tried a bit of everything on the menu and all of us were so impressed. We aren't from Exmouth but will be making a trip back to come and eat here again 😊

Website said book to avoid disappointment; Booked, still dissapointed.

Left a booking for 7:00 on a Friday, it got accepted and they confirmed it over phone, was shut when we got there. Very disappointed. Hope it burns down someday.

Booked a table for a birthday . Not even open when we arrived. Huge disappointment.

Can’t fault the place , friendly and talkative staff. Going the extra mile especially the chef. Can’t fault the place at all. Will definitely return.

The food is good and lots of outdoor seating plus an upstairs deck it's definitely a good choice for a few drinks but sometimes the music can be a bit challenging inside other than that great all round.

We eat here all time when in Exmouth around 4 times ayear puddings let menu down else 5 star

We arranged a meal at The Heavitree to celebrate our daughters 30th birthday 🎉 From booking the meal with Andy right through to him bringing out the Birthday cake and us having drinks after, we felt that we received outstanding service . The food was really good and brought out all at the same time , nice and hot by a lovely young lady . The bar staff too were fab 👍 Thank you to Andy and the team . We had an amazing time 👌

We booked last minute on the bank holiday weekend for a last minute Sunday lunch as the previous pub we visited had ran out, the staff were absolutely lovely! So polite, friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious (we had carveries and a pasta bolognaise dish) generous servings of meat and vegetables and all the food was hot and delicious!! Thank you very much guys, highly recommend 🥰 we didn’t change a dessert as we couldn’t fit in any more, but they looked gorgeous!!

Had a lovely lunch there. Only arrived 10 mins before they stopped serving lunches, but they werehappy for us to order. Staff so polite and helpful.

8 of us pre-booked for Easter Sunday. Upon arrival we were told that due to staff shortage, a Carvery was the only food available. That's understandable but the food was awful. Veg available was carrot/swede mash, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese (the cauliflower was too hard), burnt parsnips and potatoes dripping in fat. The Yorkshire Puddings were rubbery & cold. The whole meal was cold & unsatisfactory. To top it all, when we complained, no-one from management came to see us. Definitely won't be going back 🙄

Went for a Carvery and wasn't impressed. Food was dry and way overcooked. Service was good though.

Although it says on sign Sunday until 8 we went at 5, roast was fairly naff apart from the meat, roast potatoes were insipid, Yorkshire puds needed chiselling, not very warm, not great choice, we were starving by that point. That's being FAIR! Ate on 10/4/22.

Poor food and very slow service

Great food, when it arrived. Lost our pre orders but on the whole was a lovely evening. Nice atmosphere it just felt as if the staff were under a lot of pressure. We had a three course meal for a Christmas party and it was enjoyable :)

The two lovely lasses that served me were delightful. I don't understand how it was possible for the food to be better? I had a steak pie with mash, peas and some stilton sauce for good measure. There aren't enough stars available to rate this place, I've not even had my dessert yet but I am that confident I am slapping this here now.

We went for lunch as a family of 5! The first time we had visited and we were very impressed. The service was great, the food was fantastic and the portion sizes huge!! We will definitely be back!! Thanks for a lovely lunch!

Nice restaurant. you can seat outside and upstairs (drinks only). Very friendly and helpful staff. One of the best mussels we've ever had (and we had many before!).

Far above average gastro pub food and an impressive selection of drinks, the only negative is the prices being just a touch more expensive than it probably should be.
