Visited Heathfield Tavern for our office Christmas party in December and a birthday party a couple of months prior. I already cannot wait to go back! The food was excellent & the service was fantastic!

4 friends and myself went for a few drinks and dinner at the weekend, the staff were polite and helpful, the food was hot/well-presented and tasty and the atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. I had the pasta linguine and my friends had burgers, overall a pleasant evening and will be back again for sure!

December 2023 Foresters Christmas lunch. 13 of us altogether. Warm welcome, swift service, all three courses were served individually on time, so we all ate together. All of us enjoyed our dishes, my goats cheese and beetroot tart was so tasty and the pastry was lovely. Sea bass, really lovely, plum and ginger pudding with custard was a pleasant change and really nice. I would highly recommend Christmas lunch here and as per my previous reviews, eat here for any occasion. Superb. Thank you to the whole Tavern team 👍. October 2023. Visited again with my friend from when our children were toddlers, she had travelled quite a distance so it was so good to have a warm welcome and the most delicious fish and chips! I have had to edit this old review as it seems I can't write a new one.. I visited here again tonight, Saturday is 21st August 2021 after two years, due to lockdown. There were 13 of us, all (well behaved!) ladies from regular fitness classes. The food was excellent, the service, friendly and efficient, the staff went out of their way, even moving tables soon after we all arrived, so we could all be together. Thanks to the team, we all had a fabulous evening. Thank you. Unfortunately, the food was so good, I forgot to take a photo 😂

A group of us went to The Heathfield Tavern for their festive meal. The food was excellent & the service from Alex & staff. Would thoroughly recommend.

We went here at the end of November for a roast, and had a wonderful meal. Very decent sized portions, very succulent beef, probably the best Yorkshire pudding I've ever had out with a roast; it was big and crispy, and a good selection of veggies. And the gravy was delicious. Pudding was a brownie which I really didn't need, but enjoyed immensely. Lovely staff, and we weren't rushed even though we were there at the later end if service. Highly recommended and will definitely go back.

We visited the Heathfield Tavern on spec to try it for lunch and what a very good idea it was! We were greeted by cheerful and friendly staff whose waiting skills were first class, chef was available to chat through a hatch into the kitchen and the tables were well spaced. The food was absolutely delicious, the best fish and chips I’ve ever had and my husband gave his sea bass 10/10. On top of that the prices compared very favourably with other lesser establishments in the area. This lovely pub restaurant is going to become a favourite destination.

We didn't know the area and found this pub. So glad we did, friendly and accommodating staff, even let us bring our small dog into conservatory area of restaurant. Being coeliac was no issue and I had a choice of gluten free mains and desserts. Food delicious! Definitely recommend.

We are locals, but haven’t tried the Sunday Lunch before. Really enjoyed it! Generous portions of veg too, which we love. Had a brownie and a cheesecake for pudding, both excellent. Finished off with a decaf flat white. Decaf in particular is pretty variable in different establishments. This one was delicious. The Heathfield Tavern has become a really good local pub with friendly service, delicious food and lots of events from live music to making a painting

Being a chef my self I critic a lot when eating out but at this wonderful place I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, the welcome, the seating, drink service and food was all sublime, my only critic that the cauliflower cheese was every so slightly undercooked but it was soooooo good that I ate it and didn't worry about it, the lamb that I had was melt in the mouth and my friends food also looked amazing (we all had roast for lunch) I'd happily come again and would recommend to anyone to come and try this place Our booking was on the Sunday 30th April at 12.00 table of 3 name of hills) Once again a fantastic meal and keep up the amazing service

A fantastic meal ... Tiger prawns in garlic and chilli 10/10 Sea bass 10/10 Pineapple and white chocolate cheesecake 9/10 ( more biscuit base...it needed more crunch, less middle, fantastic topping)

Sunday roast was fantastic, would definitely recommend. Portions were a good size too and the kids loved theirs too. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will be going back again!

After a long absence because of untrained staff and no obvious management, we decided to have dinner here last night 13th Jan 2023. So glad we did! What a wonderful improvement. Smiley welcome by staff and a new chef. Food and service very good. Will return.

Proper old fashioned pub with good food and nice environment for a quiet drink

We stopped off here for a meal on the way somewhere and I'm glad we did. We had made a booking however when we got there there was plenty of tables free. We sat down and the lovely waitress took our drinks order, 1x prosecco, 1x coke, 1x wine and 1x G&T, we were then left to browse the menu. Again Halloumi made an appearance so I opted for that, it was amazing! So amazing I completely forgot to take a picture of it! Then we had....1x pie and mash as recommended by the waitress, 1x burger, 1x philly cheese steak sandwich and 1x cajun chicken sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meal and said how tasty everything was. Our bill came to £77 including tips. The venue was clean and tidy and the loos were clean too.

Random drop in after taking the kids to Urban Jump. Excellent food and service made to feel very welcome would definitely go back. We had a mix of meals and puddings and all plates were empty at the end of the meal 😋

Such a shame came here today with my family for some lunch called ahead to book and was told to just come along. When we arrived we were greeted by two young ladies stressed but polite enough, when we asked for the menus they told us the kitchen was closed we explained we called ahead and was told there would be a slight wait. It all went down hill from here 3 sandwiches and a fish and chips took over a hour to arrive loverly I must say but the wait time was unacceptable a slight wait is not over a hour, especially when we were the only customers in the garden and a hand full of people inside. The reason for the 2 star was the children's meals we ordered two children's scampi it came out still raw they were Apologised and replaced them but again we had to wait some time, we were also charged £1.70 for a fruit shoot which clearly came from bookers as they had 69p written on them. Such a shame beautiful pub would visit for a drink but not for food!

We had a great time at the Tavern celebrating a 60th birthday. All of our family and friends enjoyed the tasty food and great service. Dan and the team were a great help in planning the lunch considering that there were so many of us. The food was also served very promptly and the team very friendly to all of our guests. We would certainly recommend the Tavern for a celebratory meal for a number of people.

Errr bit of a joke of a place when it comes down to it. Ordered a burger and asked for no mayo not only did burger turn up with mayo all over it, then was a good 40 mins with no replacement before I said that actually they had ruined the moment and meal with friends who had all eaten by this piping, they did nt charge me for the burger but I wanted a meal with friends and I did t get one.

Excellent friendly welcome, food is superb. We had the mixed meat Sunday roast, fantastic value. The ambiance is delightful, great staff and open kitchen, which was a hive of activity; it’s busy on s Sunday so recommend booking. Will definitely return

Friendly pub with a good menu with enough variety

Well where do I start with the tavern team....I've worked in Customer Relation for 20yrs plus and I've part run my own business so I know service and have witnessed so service that has made me cringe. The team at the tavern made me so welcome it's become my go to place to relax and reflect on some tough days for me personally. The manager hires individuals and allows them to shine and be themselves. Nothing was too much trouble, Harry helped me with some tech issues I had, all were chatty and helpful. I met some truly lovely youngsters who helped me relate to why my 13yrs old was being such a teenager at the moment. Times have been so tough for this industry, they have lost alot of money snd trade because of this virus. So now the virus is going to be the normal let's get out if we can and support our local. Food was good, hospitality 5 stars, range of drinks interesting.....and they laughed at my jokes mostly about Karen's cause I'm a Karen apparently (sorry to all the Karen's I think you rock keep complaining but only if its genuine. Just need Rag and Bone man to play there then it would be 50 stars.....Harry and the stereo King's are playing on the 2nd April so that should be a top night. 😉

Very welcoming, and great atmosphere

I’ve known this pub for 30 year or more. Sadly went through a time of “dodgyness” fights in the bar, one arm bandits etc. Anyhow, passing today thought, hell give it a try. I’ve been a caterer for 46/47 years. Food? Pub food? Too be honest? Excellent. Starter, main., sweet. Great. Just…. Great, I can’t think of a single negative comment to pass. Excellent. Modest price too. Will I return? Sure as eggs I will. Excellent. All the best to Heathfield Tavern team.

Great service and lovely assortment of food on offer. Around 23 people in our group and all the food came out fairly quickly considering there were other diners and we ordered multiple dishes. Big thumbs up!

Used to be great when It re opened the manager knew how to run it the staff were on point. Now the manager has left and the chef has taken over it has hit its old extremely low standards. Bar staff haven't got a clue just stand there staring same to be said for the waitress staff not got a clue what to do. Waited God no's how long for them to take our order to then be served raw food. Complained to one of them. No idea what to do so did nothing had to complain to another one who finely said we can take it off your bill. No good when your hungry not to be offered the correct food. All in all avoid having anything to do with this place until new management is in place

Some staff training needed here! Chef came out of the kitchen with torn clothes and generally scruffy. This passes on to his young staff - no aprons or gloves worn by kitchen staff, food (roast potatoes) loaded onto plates with bare hands. Young waitresses of which one seemed to know what she was doing, the waiter seemed more interested in chatting up the waitresses, and in the main the waitresses had their backs to the diners so it took a good ten minutes to get the bill. This is all a shame as the food is good and with a bit of good training and uniforms, this could be really good. I feel the staff are not respected by the owner and this is reflected in their service

Amazingly good and tasty food at very reasonable prices with really attentive staff and great service throughout. The Peri Peri Chicken Burger was gorgeous and my partner loved his Tavern Steak Burger! Very reasonably priced at just under £65 for two people to include two rounds of drinks, starters, mains, and a dessert platter to share! Thanks guys, see you again soon!

Just had the Sunday Roast takeaway. Perfect Beef and trimmings. Plenty of gravy and good sized portion. The chocolate brownie and crumble were absolutely delicious. For £12 a head absolute bargain. Will be back.

Came here New Year’s Day, fed up with cooking over Christmas. Cauvery excellent, all cooked to perfection, ( not like some Cauvery restaurants) Lovely desserts, home made and well presented. Good quick service, attentive staff. Defiantly worth a visit.

We had our Staff Xmas Meal at the Tavern on Tuesday night and can only say how amazing it was!

Disappointed. A large number of us ladies went for Christmas lunch. We had chosen prior to the day from their menu, yet the service was very slow. There were not many other customers. Only green veg was two Brussel sprouts. Not impressed at all. We waited ages for coffee and mints which was included in the price but had to ask for it and was asked if we had ordered it and she would check. Then when money handed over at the till, they couldn't work it out right. We had all had set menu but some had two courses and some three. Not a patch on the Kings Head in Horsebridge where we usually go.

Came on a wednesday to give the 241 burger offer a go. The food was delicious, the service was great. Highly recommend and will be back.

We are here at the end of August and it was amazing. Went back today for my birthday and what a terrible experience. We waited an hour for our starters - which only arrived after complaining. When they came, the soup and scallops were cold, and the king prawns were literally 6 prawns in a bowl with no sauce and 2 dry pieces of bread. We had to ask twice for them to bring my daughter’s bread roll! The waitress was really rude when we complained, not apologising and simply aggressively replying that it wasn’t her fault. We walked out after starters and went to Waitrose to get sandwiches. Really disappointed as we had really been looking forward to it.

Night before Halloween so cobwebs and pumpkins already in place. Harveys beer was good once a fresh barrel on tap. Busy for food, probably because it was 2 for 1 night on burgers. Food generally was very tasty. Roast beef burger and halloumi burger with spicy add-ons both excellent. Sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream also very nice. Friendly staff and overall a good night.

I ate here twice in one week...not a usual situation I have to say, but I'm not complaining!

Delicious carvery! The meat was tender and tasty, the vegetables were plentiful and well cooked. Service for drinks was a little slow but otherwise no complaints. The sticky toffee pudding was light and extremely yummy!

Recommended by local guest house owners. Very good menu but went for the pie of the day which was excellent. Good selection of desserts, again all good, and the whole meal was good value for money. Very pleasant staff, food came reasonably quickly and was piping hot and well cooked. With a pint of Harveys, who could ask for more? One to return to.

We had heard, and read, positive reports of the Heathfield Tavern since the Ridley family took it over. Knowing how well-run the Cock Inn (near Ringmer) and the Highlands Inn (Uckfield) are, it came as no surprise that we so enjoyed our evening meal there on 12th October. There was a lively, cheery atmosphere in the bar area, whilst the restaurant is smart, roomy and comfortable. The three members of staff who looked after our table were welcoming, friendly, helpful and very capable. Our meals (There were three of us and we each had three courses.) were tasty, ample, well presented and very reasonably priced.

Just had another great meal in the Tavern. Fantastic service again. I can really recommend the mushroom and red pepper stroganoff.
