My boyfriend and I visited this bar on new year eve at the beginning of our night, there was a DJ playing music and there was a dance floor, music wasn’t the best but not too bad… I felt that there weren’t enough tables and the staff collecting glasses were all wearing tracksuits which wasn’t the best. I felt that drinks were a little expensive in here.

This place has been transformed from what was quite frankly a shameful embarrassment on the community. Positive changes are continually being made and I wish them so much luck with it. It's not the place we used to know!!! Well Done Guys, Well Done!!!

This pub has had a complete re-vamp by Suzanne and her family. Everything is new including the once disgusting toilets they are a pleasure to visit and if caught short additional items provided lol. The food standard and quality, in the new kitchen are exceptional. The staff are amazing and George is welcoming, kind, chatty and knowledgeable about the business and makes u feel welcome even if you are alone. Dog friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Heating is finally in which is a first ever. For anyone who remembers this pub and still avoid it DON'T get in there and enjoy reasonable prices for food and drink.

Staff are attentive and polite, I dident see any vaping going on behind the bar, as in other comments mentioned. My coffee was spot on hot and of good quality bean's. Food was hot and delicious and of good quality, I waited for approx 20 mins, which is satisfactory for myself , I had the steak which was cooked exactly the way I asked, and the sald was fresh, not a limp lettuce in sight. The atmosphere was amazing, so good that I called again the following day and enjoyed a pleasant drink and a enthusiastic chat with the guys behind the bar George and Corry. We'll done The Hean and the team. See you all soon.

The meals were hot and well presented. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with changing some elements of my meal because they had run out of an item. The size of the meal was good and very tasteful and reasonably priced We enjoyed it so much we went back later in the week

Although the pub has had a bit of a refurb since our last visit, its mainly run for kids, in fact there were two kids serving behind the bar on our visit, throwing glasses and bottles around trying to be like Tom Cruise, more like Dick and Dom or the Chuckle Brothers or Danny and Mick, if you've seen CBBC you'll know what I mean. Didn't help that one of them was vaping behind the bar.

On Saturday 05/06/21 the wife and I decided to try the Hean for a drink as it was the nearest pub to the car park. We were met at the door by two "bouncers" who might as have well have been Peter Kay and Paddy McGuiness for all the use they were. They were stood inside the doorway and neither were wearing facemasks despite the sign by the door saying something like "no masks, no serving".One of them sat us down at the first table inside the place which was still wet from the drinks that were there from the previous visitors so clearly hadn't been sanitised after they left. From where we were sat we had a first class view of everyone coming or going from the pub and despite another sign chalked on the wall inside saying that masks are to be worn when entering, leaving and/or when standing or visiting the toilets, we counted over a dozen adults walking in and out not wearing them, and Max and Paddy did nothing about it. One guy even stood talking to one of them inside the pub for almost ten minutes without his mask on.On the wall sign within the pub, mentioned above, another line read "please use the hand sanitiser", but there wasn't one on entry, and we didn't see one anywhere else (?).All of the serving staff wore masks most of the time, though one did walk through without his once.I dread to think of the hygiene standards they must have when preparing and serving food if they can't obey the rules when the public can see them, but we're not prepared to risk it.Covid lives on in the Hean Castle!

Unfinished, unwelcoming and One of the staff downright unforgiveably rude. Thought my husband and myself would try this pub/restaurant. My husband went to go in, and realised it was a real no no !! Meanwhile I had asked to use the Toilet facilities and was helped by a very obliging young man (staff). I came out following the same route, and was just about to go through the outside door when this really aggressive man, with absolutely no idea of handling customers practically screamed at me across the road in front of passers by, 'There is a one way system in here'. I was so taken aback and upset I apologised and said unfortunately' I 'm sorry I did not see any signs.'. Talk about if looks could kill. I realised after that this particular place had no customers apart from three people outside. Toilets were dirty and unfinished and there was certainly no smell of food. whilst up the hill the outside of another pub/restaurant was absolutely full. Methinks that tells the tale.

The Hean Castle’s front terrace was bathed in warm sunshine on my visit, and I decided to soak up a few rays while having lunch. It’s a good spot for people watching! I asked for a flat white coffee, choosing from the list of options displayed on the bar, but the barman had no idea what it was! I showed him the list and we had a good laugh about it. Eventually I got what I think was a cappuccino which was nice enough. I ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich which was pretty good, though the bread used was bog standard sliced white. The accompanying salad and garlicky coleslaw was fine. The main appeal of this place is its location, and the fact that it is dog-friendly inside and out. We had 2 children's meals and a jacket potato with a few drinks, all were ok nothing special and yes frozen chips (which are not the same). But they had good WiFi which was free and was family friendly. The other issue was that nearly 75% of meals were £9.95 or more other than jacket potatoes or sandwiches. So yes I would visit here again with my family for a drink when visiting Saundersfoot and may have the children's meal there but wouldnt go there for adults meal.

The Hean Castle is a place we always make a point of visiting on trips to Saundersfoot, becaise of the food. The menu is standard pub fare - but with a choice of curries. The Dragon's Breath curry - incorporating local ingredients including leeks (!) makes a fantastic meal. Other meals with chips also very good and fairly priced.

Been before and got a warm welcome ,my little boy makes us go when on holiday so he can see Walter the resident pig that runs freely around the pub. Food is well priced ,nice enough not fancy.kids are made welcome even when they are a bit noisy or sandy. It isn't in the best decorative state and the toilets are grotty but I've been there as a couple at night so I understand why ,it is a very laid back fun place in the evenings It is what it is and I like whAt it is .Long live Walter

Some of the reviews are correct, it's not the most up to date show home pub. Dated decor, pet friendly and intimate lighting or you could say rustic, accepts dogs and energy conscious. The long and short of it is that 5 of us sat down to eat 5 different meals, no left overs! Fresh (not frozen mash), good size portions and a good selection of drinks. Free wi-fi.Don't be mistaken it's not a Michelin Star facility, but the food was good and priced appropriately.

Visited today Thursday 10 August 2017. We didn't go into the establishment but sat outside on the tables. Ordered amongst other dishes, three steaks, one rare, one medium and one well done. They all came out rubbery, overdone and greasy. The waitress' hygiene was dreadful, the whole experience was dreadful. We then went to the loo and I agree with another Tripadviser that they are possibly the worse loos in Wales. You could smell them halfway into the pub. We should have looked inside first. If I could have scored 0 I would have done. I note that they are displaying a five star food hygiene rating- as an ex-environmental health officer I really can't see how his happened!

WENT INTO THE HEAN CASTLE WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN ON SATURDAY, OMG ! Dirty stinking toilets, the pub generally is dirty , busy with customers who obviously have very low standards and just want cheap food .I looked in the kitchen entrance and the food was all sat on a large table waiting to go out , the floor was really dirty.Toilets are disgusting , Place should have a visit from the health and hygiene people .Real shame as the pub commands a great spot in the village but obviously nobody there gives a damn .

We stopped here for a coffee/beer stop. The place was fine, but a bit dated. The prices were ok and the coffees fine. Doesn't accept card payment which is unusual for a pub (I can even pay my window cleaner with card). Overall, it was ok.

The Hean Castle is quite dirty and tired. I was given a glass that still had lipstick on it. The food was poor. I asked for a ham sandwich which was served on the cheapest white sliced bread and cheap ham. I could not eat it.The staff are friendly and they do allow dogs.

Wow, went out for a family dinner but everywhere was really busy... luckily we got a table in the Hean! It was dark, very dark- like it's trying to hide something..... like the mould and the dirt, the grime... Wished we had used the toilets first because we probably wouldn't have ordered food if we had! I've never seen toilets so dirty!! Carpets were so dirty they were black. On the way to the toilets you pass a staircase with walls in a foul, dirty shade of who knows what. The ceiling above the pool table was growing it's own eco-system... Husbands pint had a hair in it.... friends dinner had a hair in it... condiments were disgusting looking. One of our food orders was wrong and had to be replaced. Food served by a teenager in a tracksuit- who we had to remind about bringing out cutlery. Food was ok, but bland. Hairs were off-putting! General dive-bar smell throughout. Needs a good clean and redecorating! Not going to be returning!

Went in on a Saturday, very dark interior, Doombar kept ok which was only saving grace. Pub seemed to be full of youngsters scantily dressed a little bit worse for wear with an argument breaking out at one point outside. Dog came up and sat on sofas against me so decided not eating there. In the town for a week and never revisited.

Went here for a Sunday lunch. They had a nice menu and friendly staff. They allow dogs in which I dont like having any animals in any place that serves food. The decor is dated and cluttered. The lighting is dingy and you struggle to see your food. The place needs a good proper clean. The Sunday lunch was ok, it wasnt that hot coming out of kitchen and not much on the plate. I dont like giving bad reviews but hopefully the staff will read some reviews and declutter and clean the place. Could be a nice place.

A rather busy Saundersfoot on a warm, pleasant day, most tables taken at all the more popular restaurants, So found an empty table at the Hean Castle. Ordered our drinks and meals at the bar, pleasant sever. Drinks served immediately, with the food following about five minutes later. I had ordered a beef curry and my wife a plowman's salad. The curry was dry and the chips were of the frozen type, not cooked very well, whilst my wife's plowman's was some lettuce, two lumps of cheese, one pickled onion about the size of a tennis ball, and some slaw.Ate what we could, went to pay the bill, and was then told that they do not take card payments! Luckily, we had just enough cash between us to cover the total.Certainly NOT, repeat, NOT RECOMMENDED!

Always visit the Hean on trips to saundersfoot and I love the place, great selection of booze and the best chips in town, could probably do with a little update and a good clean but the place has plenty of character, if you like yours places cheap and cheerful then get to the Hean

We visited on our first night in Saundersfoot. Food was ok but the inside was dark dingy and cluttered. They advertised serving food til 9 pm on a board outside but they stopped serving food an hour earlier that night! They didn't seem to care that they turned away potential business, and they started sweeping the floor whilst we were sat there wouldn't have minded if it had been 3 am but this was more like 9pm. We felt as though we were an inconvenience . All I can say is that they really don't want or need the custom. Avoid this place there are plenty of nicer places to eat in the area.
