First came across the management here when they were running another local pub... I ordered food twice there, and still haven't eaten there... 60 minute wait on pancakes for the kids, we got a refund and left. Whilst management blamed the bar staff. Fast forward to the multiple times I've now visited the Haywain with different groups of people, and have not once had a visit without something stupid happening. 30minute wait for a cocktail, which was paid for, that they then tried to add to a tab once they finally brought it over (manager took the payment and order for the cocktail but it never made it through). Went Christmas eve and ordered milkshakes for the kids... Again huge wait... And again order hadn't gone through... Again we all laughed it off! I've been with friends who ordered with manager at table, and orders came back wrong.. and now the latest, booked a week in advance for a meal to find out via a Facebook post same day as booking that they were closed for a private function. With no contact made to myself to say our booking had been canceled. Am I surprised? No, not at all! Whenever I mention this place to anyone local they agree, and have stories of their own for each time they have visited. It's such a shame, the food and cocktails are superb and it is a lovely cosy pub!! The organisation of the whole place let's it down. Oh and I've now been blocked from their Facebook page for laughing at a post thanking people for their understanding of the place being closed for the private function... I'm sure that blocked list for their page is huge now!! I advise if you are booking for an important meal for a birthday/anniversary etc that you book elsewhere, as this place can drop your booking without even telling you.

Doesn't matter and don't know what the food is like as I'm still waiting so can't comment conservatively 45 minutes wait so far ..not particularly busy..

Lovely pub, I had the tipsy chicken pie, it was so good and the mash was so creamy. Visited with my friend and baby. The staff there were very friendly and welcoming.

Awful experience. Had anticipated going to the Haywain all week. We were booked for Sunday lunch. When we got there, the place looked tired and neglected. We were shown to our table by a lady who didn’t seem to want to be there….and then sat there for half an hour waiting to order. And that in a place that was almost empty! In the end we gave up waiting….and told them at the bar that we were leaving. Which we did. We will not be back. There are plenty of other places in the area glad of our custom I am sure!

As a regular for the last 30 years or so I went with the family for Sunday lunch. After waiting nearly an hour for food we didn't get green veg with it, but were at least luckier than the table next to us, who didn't get green veg OR cauliflower cheese. Asking for a bottle of wine triggered some sort of 20-minute live-action Fawlty Towers improv scene behind the bar before they finally managed to track down and identify the 6 bottles in a rack which I could see from my seat all along. Some family returned last week and the food was all "freezer->fryer->table" stuff, once again inexplicably late and again not good. They vowed never to return. At this point it does look suspiciously like someone is trying to deliberately drive the business into the ground so they can knock it down and build flats. Please tell me this is not the case.... I don't normally give bad public reviews but I posted a slightly shorter version of the above review in response to a Haywain advert coming up on my Facebook timeline. "Somebody" reported it as "bullying" and deleted it. I think that tells you all you need to know about the attitude of the management, and about the accuracy of my suspicion.

Called in for a quick lunch husband ordered a chicken & bacon sandwich & I ordered the leek & potato quiche. 45 mins went by and still no sign of food. Couldn’t even say it was busy there. Was about 4 or 5 tables. Went up to bar to ask have we been forgotten and the bar man said it’ll be 2 mins they’re just playing it up. So we sat back down. Another 15 mins went by. Got up again to walk out and here he comes with the plates. Over an hour to put a sandwich & a small triangle of quiche on a plate. It wasn’t as if anything had to be cooked. Not worth the money paid either. £7 for quiche!!

Earlier today me my wife and my son all went out to our local pub the haywain. After being sat us ordering our food and getting our food all followed quickly after with the wait time being around 20 minutes which to me is an average wait time. All of us ordered the roast dinner which to me was to my standards and to my wife above her idea of what the food would taste like. My son loved it and we all had a fun time. Would come again.

I went here previously before co I'd but returned last month and was very impressed. I decided to attend this weekend 23/03/24. My husband is a vegetarian so wanted to see the options. Ordered our meal and my husbands came but mine game which was a cajun burger but I ordered chargilled chicken which should have come with a salsa and salad and I swapped rice for fries. I took it back and said what I ordered which was the chargrilled chicken not a burger. When it came out it was chargrilled chicken in a burger roll again which wasn't what I ordered. I also ordered Diane sauce to go with the chicken. This cane out as well which wouldn't have gone with the burger. Was quite disappointed with this as got the order wrong twice. No compensation offered. Suffice to say I won't be going back for a while

Love that breakfast & brunch is served for longer throughout the day and alongside their lunch/coffee menu. No rushing in the morning, then a nice and relaxed atmosphere with quirky decor and lots of pretty lights and flowers. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and were obviously prepared with care (Found a few items very buttery, cooked in it perhaps but that's personal preference and it was still very tasty, if rich) Will be back again for brunch in future & to try the dinners, which look like a great selection. Plenty of spacious parking and kids climbing frame in the garden.

Staff were very friendly table service throughout. Coffee was perfect, flat white Clifton beans perfect temperature. The food was outstanding 3x pancakes and a french toast Big portions freshly made tasted great. Price was excellent for what we had. Team doing a great job will say best brunch had in Bridgend. We will be back!

Went here for an evening meal with family members (adults). Decent menu , specials available which one of us went for (chicken leeks etc) and was very happy with it. Had sirloin steak it was very reasonable, high quality and cooked perfectly. Cocktail Mojito seemed a bit pricey at £8.50, it wasn't the best (not enough sugar) but bartender did say was the first one he'd ever done. Shiraz was lovely albeit pricey (although I'm way out of touch with alcohol prices). Didn't go for a dessert this time but may next time nice choice. Service was good , staff were friendly. There was entertainment which was a nice addition , performer was very good but volume could have been turned down a touch though. All in all very happy with the experience and would definitely go again. Would recommend.

This is my second visit to the Haywain since it reopened. The first time was on opening night when there were a few teething issues with service. After a few months, I'd hoped that these issues would have been ironed out but they have sadly persisted. Food was slow to arrive and when it did, one of the dinners had the wrong meat. The manager kindly promised to bring the correct meat in addition for no additional charge, but by the time it came we had all finished our meals. Staff needed to be called over to order more drinks and to ask for sauces. The drinks we ordered took a further 20 minutes to arrive, by which time we were done eating. Many of the waiting staff lack the initiative to approach tables without being prompted, instead hovering around the bar and not appearing to be doing much of anything. There were a number of smaller issues, but the sad thing is that many of them are easily remedied. Having a single, experienced head waiter/waitress to train the younger staff would provide them with the leadership and guidance needed to improve the quality of service. On a positive note, the starters and mains are very good, and presented well. The kitchen staff appear to be far more competent than the servers.

First time trying this local pub that has only been re-open a few months under new ownership. Came in for breakfast and chose the French toast with bacon and maple syrup. The surroundings are beautiful, a mismatch of furniture and decor makes this feel authentic and interesting. Dogs are welcome and have their own menu. The staff were warm and welcoming and very helpful. I will definitely be coming back again, next time to try the Sunday roast I think as this looks amazing.

Came here last Sunday for lunch having visited the week before for a weekday lunch which was superb. The Sunday Lunch here is first class, we had the creamy garlic mushrooms on Pommes Anna and prawn cocktail starters which were excellent, we then had the roast sirloin of beef main course. The cooking of the beef was perfect as it should be, medium rare, with beautiful crisp roast potatoes and home made Yorkshire pudding. Will definitely be back, and would highly recommend

We moved to this area recently and have popped in for food a few times, always on the spur of the moment. Staff are really friendly, nice chilled atmosphere and plenty of good beers on tap. Food is freshly prepared and really tasty, definitely not the usual pre-made chain pub slop that's become so common. If something is sold out it's because it's bloody tasty and everyone else has beat you to it - I'd much rather miss out on something every now and again than get reheated microwave food straight out the freezer! Glad to call this our new local - will definitely keep coming back!

Ordered coffee and toast the server was polite but disinterested in everything. Asked for a round of wholemeal bread and marmite. No marmite only jam OK , sat at table and toast buly arrived 1 piece of white toast no knife and cold. Noticed he youn gent serving failed to give anyone who ordered toast or Teacake the means to butter the bread. Resulting in everyone having to go to the serving bar to help themselves. The knifes available were all stained and appeared grimy. Table cleaning is hit and miss and the Almond croissant are a joke hard and unappetising and had to leave it. Called in as my sister recommended you. Won't be calling again. No excuse for tardy service even if it is busy.

Busy pub centre of town, where Saturday nights can be a bit boisterous, pub is a bit worn and in need of a refurb, but great selection of drinks at the normal wetherspoon prices
