Didn't learn our lesson and went back for another Christmas meal. We were dumped in the doggy area without been asked after having booked the dining room. In this area there was no waiting staff service, just self service for ordering. The table was also too small for five diners. We asked for our child's meal ASAP and they brought out their desert first, and then the starter and main course was delayed until adults were served. Very slow service generally. Not enough cutlery on table for starters, and we couldn't start our main course for the same reason. Bread on starter was dry, not freshly cut. Our starter crockery was still on the table when our mains were brought. Asked for more gravy which didn't arrived until we had almost finished the mains. Green veg on main was lukewarm as was meat. One christmas cracker for 3 christmas menus. Regularly loud ringing house phone was annoying. The food tasted good which was the only positive aspect, pity it wasn't all served at is best.

My sister in law and I had a lovely afternoon/evening here. Our table was booked for 5pm but we arrived about 2.30 so we could have a drink and a catch up before our meal. We were seated beside a lovely log fire which on a frosty day was very welcoming. The staff were friendly and very attentive. When told my sister in law had allergies, they produced a tablet with a list of food she would be able to select from. Our main course was beautifully displayed when it arrived. Dessert, pavlova, was art on a plate and a lot of eating, but worth every bite. 😊 Highly recommended.

I can only advise against this hotel – there is no reliability. We were a group of six and had booked accommodation at the hotel. On the day of arrival, we received an email three hours before arrival informing us that, unfortunately, a previously agreed-upon late check-in could not take place and that we should find alternative accommodation. The hotel avoided any attempts at communication. Even worse, they charged us cancellation fees. I have never experienced anything like this at a hotel.

Very cosy pub which is what we were looking for after a long day travelling, walked in and couldn’t find a member of staff to actually ask for a table. Eventually we got seated, took some time to make our order and then once we had ordered it took forever for our food to arrive, so stars lost for service. Food arrived cold so star lost on food for this. Had to constantly find a staff member when I wanted a drink or to get the bill. Wasn’t the only one experiencing this as overheard table next to us also complaining. I will still come again as maybe they were having a staff shortage. Really good view out the front of the Forth Bridge.

My husband and I have been going to this establishment for over 20 years, including having our wedding here in 2015. We went to the venue for a lunch on Sunday and I have never felt so uncomfortable in a dining experience. I rarely complain to any business, but this was simply one of the worst experiences i have ever had and as such I have been compelled to write this. We were welcomed at the main bar and asked if we had a booking, seated in the dog area (not a problem). The floor had clearly not been cleaned from the day before but i wasn’t eating off that so I wasn't fussed. The "waitress" which I wont leave a descrption of here - but have logged a complaint on the website - table 30 midday, sunday 24th September She attended the table and asked what we would like to drink, we ordered drinks and asked for a few minutes for the menu. In the interim an Australian lady weas also seated on her own at a table behind us. We received our drinks (one tea and one coke) and ordered our food. My husband ordered the chicken skewers, chips and slaw and we were advised there was so chips or slaw. The other lady went to the kitchen to check as she said this was possibly from the evening before. The drama of the young "waitress" (and I use that term loosely) then started. She huffed and said "well we will just have to wait then" she then stood by the table awkwardly narrating nonsense to herself. It was uncomfortable to say the least The other lady returned and advised (amazingly) that chips were available - but no slaw. No alternative was offered. I ordered the halloumi skewers and a glass of pinot grigio We waited for our meal and throughout the entirety of our dining “experience” this young lady proceeded to talk to herself at full volume and other staff and essentially be very unprofessional and made the experience just awful. A few of the key phrases at top volume and just odd behaviour: 1. Oh my god, I’ve ordered that wine (mine) to the other table - then huffed and stormed to the bar 2. Where is all my sauces – whilst raking in a cupboard right next to our table, then proceeded to storm off again, muttering something to herself 3. The wine then arrived from the bar and was taken to the Australin lady behind us – clearly the issue hadn’t been resolved 4. She then took a chicken burger (assume this was her lunch) through to the other area beside where we were dining and started eating 5. When one of her colleagues asked what she was doing, she laughed and said “eating my chicken burger – in view of ourselves. For hygiene and contamination reasons alone – this was quite unbelievable! 6. She berated a colleague, following her through – again past our table – about “Nicking her vinegar” 7. She came storming back from the bar area muttering about drinks which hadn’t been delivered 8. She stood next to our table drinking juice – not really an issue but I was starting to get really fed up with her dramatics by this point 9. Stormed into the restaurant – shouting he just made me cry told me to “just do my job” and then squealed and left again 10. My husband has ordered coffee and she came back and announced, the bar was rubbish and so she made it herself – then we had to ask for sugar I honestly don’t think this was everything, but it was certainly the highlights! We normally spent at least aa couple of hours in the Hawes, have a few drinks and a sweet. We attend for family dinners and many celebrations throughout the years, but the standard of service on this occasion left something to be desired. It was like being served by a stroppy drama loving child. The tip of the iceberg was when I was presented with the card machine, encouraging a tip to be left. I did out of sheer necessity at this point added a measly 5% - when I would without question normally add 15% minimum to any service bill. I am reluctant to return anytime soon and can honestly say, it is without a doubt the most uncomfortable dining experience, I have ever had. Its clear ssome training in how to interact with patrons is required

We've never been disappointed with our visits here, and today was no exception. We were a bit early but were offered coffees until the kitchen staff were ready to serve at 12.30. The food, as always, was perfect, absolutely no complaints. The servers were polite, prompt, and well presented. Thank you for allowing us to sit in until the kitchen was ready to serve. There is a car park to the rear but do register your car number plate inside as this is run by a private parking company, this allows you to park free of charge whilst eating or staying at the Inn. The toilets are upstairs and were clean and tidy, well done, the cleaners. I can highly recommend eating at The Hawes Inn, oh, and it has great views of the rail bridge out front.

The Vintage Inns app for ordering is badly designed, staff were not familiar with it and we were not told we could order at the bar instead, until we asked. We were the only people in the 'dog friendly area' so there was no atmosphere, due to the circumstances. The food is very good here. Great choice and high standards. Unfortunately when we arrive at 6.50pm on a Wednesday and we didn't have a booking we were turned away by the bar waitress. My partner checked the reservations a few hours before and it looked like plenty availability so we didn't book a table. The girl at the bar advised us if we didn't have a pre-booking we wouldn't get a table and she said they were fully booked. We were turner away abruptly which felt like a brusk rejection. I went outside confused and proceeded to check their online booking system and there were plenty of available time slots. I booked the 7pm slot at 6.55pm and went back inside. We were given a table after 10 minutes but had to wait a while on our order and drinks. One if the waitresses wasn't very friendly and placed the tomato sauce on my cutlery. She seemed a bit unhappy and sharp. I overheard a waitress they were short staffed that evening. I would return as I've been going here for years. It’s just a shame when we turned up I felt turned away and did not like the way the bar waitress spoke to me. She could have handled the whole thing very differently and been more welcoming!!

The location (Queensferry) and the ambience are the best things about the inn. Inside, it feels like a spacious maze and is very cosy. The food wasn’t great, but its presentation was excellent. We had fruit cocktail, carrot soup, fillet steak, and apple and raspberry crumble for dessert. The food and dessert were served hot, even the plates. Two waitresses served us—one helped us get in, while the other ignored us and wasn’t friendly. In terms of accessibility, there is a ramp at one of the entrances. The toilets are upstairs, accessible via stairs. I wasn’t specifically looking for accessible toilets, so I’m not sure if they have any.

I took my daughter for her birthday lunch today and have been so very disappointed!! The manager wasn’t so friendly or helpful as she ordered us to sign in on a computer with my car registration which I had to find in my documents as it’s not something I have memorised. Waitress eventually came to take our order. Drinks arrived sometime later then the starters sometime later. The main meal arrived sometime later, around an hour after sitting down, with our starter plates still on the table. We asked the waitress for another drink and cutlery as we had used them with our starters. The drink arrived sometime later, there’s a theme here, by which time our main meals were cold. The waitress said she would get them to fix it but not wanting reheated chicken and chips in a microwave I declined the offer. We weren’t the only customers being apologised to. Perhaps some staff training. I was a waitress once and it’s not that hard busy or not!! We didn’t have to pay which was fair enough but an absolutely spoiled birthday lunch for my daughter 😡😢

It's ok. They had pumps on for draught beer but there wasn't any draught beer. Staff weren't particularly helpful.

Me and my friends were in Edinburgh for only 3 days and every single day we went to Hasan’s restaurant and had the best food ever. He is a really nice man and amazing to talk to! With love, the three kids you fed for 3 days

A small restaurant with a great ambiance. The food was absolutely delicious (had the Tandoori Chicken) and not that expensive, the staff was kind and helpful. Came in at around 21h and unfortunately, they rushed us out around 22h (despite claiming to be open till 22:30h on Google). In short: great food, great place, too bad they were in a hurry to close.

This place is fantastic. It has a cozy vibe. The women who work there are competent and caring. The pastries are top level, as is the coffee. The menu is small and features a good mix of sandwiches, vegetarian items, breakfast items, and pastries. Seasoning is perfect. It was so good that we went back a second day on our three day visit.

Fantastic bar. Great team behind the bar. Richards love of fine dining is on show here with a great variety of crisps on offer. Edinburghs number 1 spot.
