This place is fantastic. It has a cozy vibe. The women who work there are competent and caring. The pastries are top level, as is the coffee. The menu is small and features a good mix of sandwiches, vegetarian items, breakfast items, and pastries. Seasoning is perfect. It was so good that we went back a second day on our three day visit.

Popped by recently on a Sunday morning while on a weekend break to Edinburgh! I liked being able to see the pastries in the window, in order to decide what you want before going into the tiny store! The staff were really warm and welcoming, and advised on the products they enjoy. I picked up the Hazelnut Pain au Chocolat and a Pain Suisse. Both pastries looked stunning. I decided to save the Pain Suisse for a later day, but ate the Pain au Chocolat shortly after purchasing. This was really tasty! The pastry itself had a nice amount of crunch and squish, though I would have liked a little more crunch. The hazelnut frangipane through the centre was super flavourful and there was just the right amount! The chocolate through the middle was of a good quality but slightly overpowered the hazelnut when consuming both simultaneously. Regardless, this was a very good pastry and I would purchase it again! I'd recommend twelve triangles based on this bake. However, I must note that my friend got the pistachio blackcurrant croissant, and could not taste any pistachio! Update - I heated the Cross Laminated Pain Suisse from frozen - this was absolutely incredible! The filling was a perfect balance of vanilla creme and chocolate chips (which cut the sweeteness perfectly). Even though I had frozen the product, it was still super buttery and I got a good crisp all the way around. One of the best pain suisse I have ever had - highly recommend!

Baked goods are decent but often trend towards a little dry. Better than many other bakeries along leith walk though. Service leaves much to be desired, several times i have visited and the staff have busy with their own conversations and make you feel like an inconvenience

Edited to adjust to improvements. It's clear Twelve Triangles have improved since I last reviewed. old post below: 12 Triangles was great. I ranted and raved about for the first few years after it opened. Told all my friend and family. I used to buy pastries in bulk to gift to people. At this point it was an instant 5-star bakery. Then croissants started getting smaller. The fillings started becoming more sparse. The pandemic hit and the quality stayed about the same and I'd still give it a 4-star for that period. However, in the last year the loaves also started shrinking - the density and size took a nosedive, they canned some of their best products (pistachio knot) and switched to cheaper oat milk. Over this time, the price has gone up. I'm being generous with this 3 star from a price/quality perspective. The last three loaves we've bought have been tragically bland - especially armed with the knowledge of what they once were. I wholeheartedly believe this is cost-cutting and scaling up. The magic is gone and it's sad. I was in here 3-4 times a week before but now, with newer bakeries (exhibiting 12 Triangles original passion) on Leith walk, I now only go here when the others are shut. A real shame and unfortunately the end result of most capitalist scale ups. I'd retract this 3-star in a heartbeat if they recaptured the magic of their first year. It's not all negative, as the sandwiches are still (for now) great and the staff are lovely and friendly.

Been here a couple of times and did not find it that friendly or affordable . In addition. The horrible shop on Dalry Rd seems unfairly protected from public feed back on serious matters. Decent products ,mainly the pastries let down by terrible staff and inflated prices. I agree with a reviewers comments on another platform . Seem's to smack of WP and passive aggression towards poc. Apparently they also censor feedback on other popular platforms as each time I've tried the system has rebuffed me. I got a bad allergic reaction the last time because staff had been smooching. a pet and not bothered to even wash their hands after before serving food. On the recent visit The boy on the till barked "wait a minute man !!!" Before I even says good morning. Followed by a snappy "what do you want !!!! Then stuck his fingers in his mouth and expected my custom as a given. I walked out there and then. As I won't pay near £4 for getting a possible lurgy and a paper bag moist from this guys salvia hands. It's obvious they don't seem to pride themselves on service or decent food handling. I worked in catering for years and would have been sacked on the spot for doing what I've seen done here. I guess this shop must just be a film set out of Little Britain perhaps.

Today at the Duke Street Twelve Triangles the server was really unfriendly to the point of not saying anything while she served us other than a blunt sentence here and there. This is such a shame because the service today has put me off from a bakery I've visited loads as a local in Edinburgh. Would approach with caution if you are looking for a welcoming atmosphere. Great quality patisserie as well as sourdough bread options and other food items. I go here regularly. I get the feeling the owners are a bit greedy, one person working on a Sunday regularly (this makes little sense from a number of perspectives - one person to make your coffee, take your payment, and package your stuff). Also, they stopped giving stamps in lockdown, a small thing but the business was booming and there is no need for that. I am a regular customer and spend a lot with them. I am beginning to prefer to support other cafés in the area which do not handpick the hours they operate and are open a full day.
