Harbour Inn in Edinburgh, City of

I visited this bar on Saturday at 11 PM, as it was the closest open establishment to my hotel. Despite the crowded conditions, I managed to squeeze in and secure the last available seat at the bar. However, I was immediately met with a dismissive "done" from the bartender/manager (which was our sole interaction). Given the bar's 1 AM closing time and the presence of numerous locals with full pints, it was evident that the bar was not winding down. I was the only non-local, under 50, fair-skinned person present so yeah wouldn't recommend.

Just popped in for a quick drink, stayed all night . Great pub with a real friendly atmosphere. Barmaid was very pleased and made the night along with the locals.

Great pint of Guiness! Played their slot machine and won 100£! Alex the bar keep was awesome. Highly recommend! Will stop in again the next time I'm in town!

Lovely understated local bar with a nautical theme. Very relaxed feeling. Seems to be frequented mainly by locals. Not going to find anything fancy here, just good people having a good time. Shame that it smelled a little like backed up sewage in one room. But that's life near the sea, I guess.

Encantador hallazgo, nos alojamos en el lugar y vagabundeamos aquí a una bienvenida muy cálida. El barman Alex era muy acogedor y conocedor de la zona. Un pub apropiado que vende cerveza bombeada a mano que nos resultó difícil de encontrar localmente. Volveremos pronto, oh y los perros son bienvenidos.

Estábamos alojados en un hotel al lado de este bar, al pasar con mi esposa decidió entrar ya que se veía bien desde el exterior, no estaba muy ocupado, esperó unos 5 minutos para ser servido como el barman o gerente estaba fuera fumando. Después de que decidió venir y servir, entonces sirvió a alguien antes que yo, tal vez un lugareño. Mi esposa quería un Gin & Tonic, buenas opciones de ginebras, luego me dieron una pinta de Tennents [no es una pinta muy agradable) de mal gusto, luego probé la cerveza Staropramen que tampoco era muy agradable. Tomé otra pinta de cerveza de verdad. Por dentro es pequeño y un poco anticuado, se puede ver este es un bar para los lugareños, los lugareños estaban bien y amable. Pero no creas que volveremos.

El lugar parecía estar bien cuando entramos por primera vez, sin embargo, antes de pedir bebidas, pronto se puso un poco helado por el grupo de gente triste, viejo y alquicioso... Como si no apreciaran a los ingleses en ‘su’ pub. Paramos por unos cuantos más, solo para despedirlos, y lo que fue divertido es que al pedir exactamente las mismas bebidas la tercera vez el barman agregó una libra a lo que habíamos estado pagando anteriormente. Supongo que esa era su manera de decir que no quería que entráramos allí. Aún así, tienen asientos ‘bonitos’... .

Un gran pub histórico con encanto cerca del mar. Gran camarero. Gran selección de cerveza. . estábamos de visita de los Estados Unidos y queríamos un lugar pintoresco después de la cena.

A small fisherman's pub thst is filled with their regulars. It's quite basic, no airs or graces. Perfect if you're after a quick pint and a bag of crisps.

Despite previous reviews I decided to go and visit. I was not disappointed. Friendly locals. Even though the language was difficult to understand. However a plentiful supply of Merlot was enough to break down barriers. Slightly disappointed in that the supposed grumpy Person was conspicuous by his absence. Over all a great place to pass an hour or three

It's the local "old men's" pub. Friendly staff. Never tried food but they do offer toasties. Wouldn't go here for food 🤠

Very nice local pub.We stayed in the nearby Premier Inn.It was a convenient for a pint with a couple of real ales and a good selection of drinks.There were sports on the Television and Music on the Friday night.

Good little place in the harbour..atmosphere is more like a hall in the upstairs room than a pub but friendly folks..

Traditional harbour pub with great tradition

I enjoyed the wonderful sea view and pleasant atmosphere at the bar. However, I was disappointed by the rude behavior of the waitress, which included unwelcome racism. Additionally, there was no clear indication about not being able to bring outside drinks, even though we had ordered drinks from within the bar. It would have been appreciated if the staff had kindly informed us about the policy rather than abruptly asking us to leave and accusing us of being fraudulent customers.

Never felt less welcome in a pub. Full of locals who clearly didn’t want us to be there. Attempted to take a seat and was told by a regular we couldn’t sit there as it was his seat. Decent selection of drinks and great music, but couldn’t enjoy it with the unfriendly atmosphere and also terrible smell. Won’t be returning.

Smelly pub with the most unfriendly regulars and staff you'll find. Decent beers though but on a highway to nowhere

Visited at the weekend, both nights. Sunday was alot more fun, had a good laugh with some of the locals, and the barman Alex made us very welcome, and overall a very nice guy. All the best from the Corby folk, hopefully we'll visit again sometime soon

Absolutely awful place and very ignorant bar man! Ordered Cointreau which should go cloudy when you add lemonade this was just lemonade, he's serving cheap drinks in branded bottles Trading Standards need to get here Asap.when asked to change to something else he said that it would cost him money - seriously! Do not go here you have been warned!!

Not too bad a selection of ales in a tiny bar. Through the back up some stairs is a lounge area. The place smells a bit of damp

Excellent service, nautical marine maps on the ceiling, and masses of photographs makes it an interesting place to visit for a drink/snack, highly recommended!

Very cozy and right by the harbour. Excellent place to sit in and have a pint or two. Has a charm that's not easily found elsewhere. I personally find late afternoons are the best time here. There's a lot of old maps on the walls plastered all over, they are pretty interesting too.

I felt the need to respond to the untrue and unfair comments about the harbour bar , I have been unable to attend in the last year but I could guarantee the owner John , staff Terry and Gary would give me or anyone a welcoming smile and more than likely remember what you had to drink on your last visit , in these tough times for everyone especially the hospitality industry an unjust criticism is below the belt , keep up the good work John and I hope to see you soon for a juice unfortunately

Im refering to the shocking review this bar got lately. I have stayed in Newhaven for near on 24 years, i have used this local bar for the last 10 years. I can honestly can say John (owner) and his staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, The Beers, Lagers, Ales, Guiness are all kept in perfect condition. The pub host live music events, Golf Outings, Trips to Horse Racing. With an array of great banter with everyone. This bar is so friendly, visitors come from afar. During all the Lockdowns we even managed to have Race Nights, Bingo all online to keep spirits up. BEST BAR IS A MUST VISIT.

Harbour Inn is always a stop in for us on a Friday - staff are friendly, it's at the heart of community in Newhaven and everyone is so lovely. Great local pub right on our doorstep!

I've been a few times in last 3 months, a pleasant bar, not fussy or pretentious thank goodness. Historic building in unspoiled traditional style, across the road from picturesque Newhaven Harbour. Thank goodness for bars like this.

I read the review by flyingshcotsman below which went against everything I had ever heard about the Harbour Inn from my friends who go regularly. So I decided to go and see for myself. The service was immaculate, n the toasties fab and the interior and loos spotless. I will definitely go again and take my friends. flyingshcotsman clearly you have issues, presumably one of the members asked you to adhere to a safety rule you took exception to? It will take more than a nasty review from you to take this pub down, its far too good! Presumably you are not planning on returning, good riddance...

This is genuinely the worst bar in the Newhaven area, the staff are sullen and rude, extremely unhelpful. It's an embaressment to the area especially as it's in such a lovely spot. Tourists should avoid at all costs and if your local to the area...

Had a coffee here last weekend outside with John the manager. What a hilarious guy and my husband and I really enjoyed chatting to him. The coffee was lovely and was great sitting in the sunshine. I will be going back to have a few...

I am just glad you are open. Good use of the outside area which is a residential square but everyone respectfull. Belhaven best at 3.2% is not for me, but the Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted @4.2 was very good. This pub avoids the queues and waiting of the waterside pubs just up the road. Fully recommend.

Looks a bit scruffy from the outside and inside wasn't much better but to be honest the bar man was friendly and there was a decent real ale on tap.
