Dropkick Murphys in Edinburgh, City of

I recently visited this dump and had one of the worst experiences I've lever had at a bar. To start, I participated in a drinking contest that was completely unfair. The rules were changed on the spot, and there was no transparency about how the contest was being judged. But what made things worse was the behavior of the bar manager. Not only was he dishonest about how the contest was being run, but when I raised my concerns, he was dismissive and rude. It became clear that the staff were not prioritizing safety or fairness. As a woman, I also felt deeply uncomfortable at times. There was no effort to ensure that the space was welcoming or safe for all customers. The manager’s attitude and the overall environment made me feel unsafe, and I would not recommend this bar to anyone, especially women. This place needs serious management changes, and I would urge people to stay away until the bar addresses these issues. There are plenty of other places in town where you can have fun and feel respected.

An Edinburgh staple. I had only come for a pint, but found myself dancing long before the night had finished. A great atmosphere and full of life, can highly recommend, no matter what the occasion. Will definitely visit again.

A young crowd with loud music but well located for numerous Fringe performances. Not a huge menu but served quickly at reasonable prices.

This place is cheap night out fulla of vibes and amazing atmosphere in the place from security to management it's place that safe and very much welcoming .

The vibes here are really good, even on a thursday night they had live music until quite late and then a dj and a good dance floor. So many cocktails and the decor is super cool with heaps of lolly jars, some drinks even come with lollies in them! amazing. There was a bit of a wait with drinks but aside from that really good place. Definitely have to come here for a guinness.

The worst pub I’ve ever been. The workers were so rude! I write this as a world traveler and customer experience management consultant 🤷🏻‍♂️

i have recently broken my leg and got in no problem. After about half an hour in there we were DRAGGED down the stairs (2 young girls and one with a broken leg). When we asked what the problem was (baring in mind we had one drink this entire evening) we were told to keep going and we would be told outside. We were told there was an issue with me vaping and that i had already been told to stop. At this point I was more concerned with where I would get a seat than any kind of vape. I was physically removed from the premises without any good reason. I was perfectly sober and do not vape. This expulsion was purely based on a disability and I would not recommend this bar/music venue to anyone. Terrible Experience.

First of all, the atmosphere- wow. The new cocktail menu is nothing short of spicy. Ciara was amazing- kept us fuelled the whole night no questions asked. Will be coming back!

I travelled from Timbuktu specifically to visit Anna and Sinead on their shift as I had heard amazing things about their service… and I wasn’t disappointed! The manager (Donald I think his name was?) was also great and dynamic behind the bar!

My friends and I had a really fun night at Dropkick Murphys in Edinburgh. The music was great, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. However, safety quickly became an issue as the night progressed. The venue is medium-sized, but they kept admitting people one after the other until it was so crowded that we physically couldn't move. Luckily, we had a table, which was the only reason we could stay and enjoy ourselves. In case of a fire or emergency, I have no idea how people would have made it out in time. Everyone was literally shoulder to shoulder – dancing became impossible, and it took us almost 20 minutes to leave because it was so full. While the fun and music were on point, the overcrowding made it a concerning experience.

I recently visited Dropkick Murphys, reputed to be the best Irish bar in the UK, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. After a lengthy 7-hour and 30-minute bus journey, my expectations were high, and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was authentic and lively, capturing the essence of a true Irish pub. The manager collin and the bar lady don'tknow her name but she was on entrance bar, in particular, was outstanding, providing exceptional hospitality that made the long trip worthwhile. If you're looking for a genuine Irish bar experience, Dropkick Murphys is definitely worth the visit.

Zero T-shirts good Guinness great door staff Michael does not know how to split the g but he does know how to give good patter with the clientele. He gave us insight into a free tshirt but it did not deliver, not angry just disappointed

The security guy asked me where I came from, and when I said Hungary, he said the door closes at 2AM, even if the place is open until 3AM. It was 30 minutes waste of my time to walk here and get this rejection. Travelled around the world and I never heard that they don’t let you in 1 hour before the closing time.

We arrived for the Hillbilly Hen Party Experience in the afternoon and were met by our lovely server Finlay who was soon joined by the lovely Niamh. Both were great hosts and showed us the best time serving the most delicious cocktails we've ever had, karaoke and dancing. Hen party props were provided and once we finished our experience, Niamh sorted us out with a table up in the main bar area where musician Finbar Horgan kept the party going with excellent song choices! We stayed at Dropkick Murphy's until it was time to go home as we had such a great time. Atmosphere, drinks and overall experience 10/10. Thanks so much guys! Can't wait to come back!

Me and my daughter came through from Glasgow for a hen party on Saturday what an amazing night we had. Colin made sure we were all covered for drinks on arrival and continued to make sure we were all good throughout our night. Can’t fault the staff at all as everyone was so helpful and friendly. Live Music and atmosphere were fantastic kept us up on the dance floor all night. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back

We were here for my friends hendoo on sat and omg what a night, staff where amazing especially Colin he looked after us all so well and made sure we had everything we needed for a fab night, there was live entertainment which was amazing got everyone up on their feet dancing and singing, the music in between sets was great too. Drinks where great and reasonably priced too. So if your looking far a good night out with great atmosphere and great music this is the place to be honestly it was brilliant.

We visited Dropkick Murphys while on a Hen party in Edinburgh. Such a good atmosphere, staff were friendly and helpful. There was live music on and then a DJ. We had such a great time we went back the next night. Would definitely recommend a visit here, great spot for Hen party as a very friendly crowd.

Went in there for six nations with family as they have always raved about it. Was so busy was like being at the front of a gig. Can’t get to the bar, can’t get to the toilet, how is that legal. I get filling the place, but it has to be counter productive when people can’t spend their money. The bar staff were doing their best, but it’s not enough when they are so outnumbered and security were still letting people in. If police were there it would be closed down. Never experience anything like it.

Worst bar I've ever been in. £5 to get in which I don't mind but asked if you could move in there and was told it wasn't too busy. Packed in like sardines. Totally over capacity and couldn't move at all . Left straight away don't know how they are allowed to operate like that. Maybe I'm getting old but I couldn't cope at all

Had a great time - place had a coat service. Live music and was jammed with people. Think of this place as a club but with clean toilets and not deafening music. Oh yeah be prepared to part the Red Sea like Jesus if you want to get to the toilets cause they’re right at the end of the hall opposite the stage. P.S if you want to skip the huge lines get onto the Edinburgh Pubcrawl and ditch when you get here.

Too many people sometimes and the bar tenders try to scam you (like when you are a student and when you show your student card, they pretend to not see your card and make you pay as a normal adult which is the double price), it happened twice to me and my friends. Pub to spend a few mins to an hour in not a night., far better pubs in Edinburgh, funny thing on my way out I got kicked out by the bouncer for talking to him, not a happy bunch, did I mention I was on my way out lol

Went for their new year party. Place was so overcrowded to the point where you couldn't actually move or breathe. Bouncers did nothing and kept on letting people in despite this being a clear and obvious breach of fire safety regulations regarding capacity. Not very safe whatsoever. Bar and cloakroom staff were friendly and did a great job which was a plus

We were told that we weren’t allowed in because we were wearing cargo trousers, but a groups of girls in the queue after us got in despite also wearing cargo trousers.

Got turned down at the door for no reason. Asked why we couldn’t get in and was just told “not tonight”. Wouldn’t recommend this place!!!

It was packed when we went, but absolutely great! Drinks choices and prices were good and all the staff were friendly. They have live music which really gets the crowds going, but have booths and tables along the side as well!

Another bar that does not have bar stools......I am trying to understand why it seems like not many bars have seats at the bar anymore? A huge reason to go to a bar is to meet new people and talk to new people. Why does there not seem to be bar stools in bars? It makes no sense. Covid has been gone for over year now. Whenever I see a bar that does not have seats at the bar I have no desire to go in. I would love an explanation. Again a huge reason to go to a bar is to meet people. Deff a lot easier meeting people sitting at a bar striking up a conversation then going over to a table. Makes no sense. Can someone please explain this to me?

Very loud and an atmosphere like at a train station on Monday morning. Bad AC with very cold air coming down. They had "karaoke" when we were there, which consisted of a guy passing around a mic to people next to the stage, who screamed into it - good thing, it was mixed so poorly, that we didn't hear them "sing".

Paid £5 each to get in tonight after standing at bar for half hour tonight with no seats finally found a seat, but then for bar staff to come take my seat from me I was disappointed as I have an hidden disability and really needed to sit would of stayed longer but I found it rude you would ask customers already in to stand especially after traveling 4 hours from Manchester for my birthday. Not that friendly really

Good place to see where karaoke goes to die. Service is friendly and the beer cool but the clientel mainly consists of drunk people trying to scream into a microphone.

I arrived 5 minutes after my group. The bouncer looked at me and said it is full and should try somewhere else. When I wanted to explain to him that my friends are in, he ignored me. I couldn't call any of them as they can't hear the ringing. I am wondering why he didn't let me in. Cause he only could have seen my feature which is not very caucasian.. that's hilarious since pride flag was hung not far from here and yet the bar manages to prove that discrimination exists in different forms.

Overpriced entry overpriced drinks poorly layed out to the point where it takes 10 minutes and a lot of squeezing through people just to use the toilet and to be greeted by someone who wants more money from you for aftershave avoid it like your life depends on it.

This has to be one of the best places for one liners in Edinburgh. I've been twice now and the compere is world class. He's won the Dave award twice (a feat only done by Tim Vine!). The venue and amount of comedians they have are amazing and it's free to watch (please, if you can though give some money to keep it going!) I will be back next year :-)

They claim to be authentic Irish, about as authentic as plastic grass. Poor choice of beer, unless you like bland mad produced macro beer.

I visited several times during the Fringe and loved this venue! They support the Free Fringe and the acts there were brilliant - so much so I visited nearly every day 😊

We went there as part of the festival to see a couple of comedians. Once we found it we loved the glitz and the rustic appearance. Good service no complaints. Worth a visit definitely.
