FreshMex in Edinburgh, City of

Really like Mexican food and this place doesn't disappoint, up there with one of my best ever food experiences, thanks guys

Six of us went out to eat, and the waitress couldn't tell us which burrito was for whom, so we had to figure it out ourselves. Furthermore, no one came over to ask how we were or if we wanted something to drink. The food, in general, wasn't very tasty.

Totally dead the morning we were there, so quick service, brilliant fresh food and a huge portion.

Always a top pick when I get the time to eat out, food was brilliant as always and the portion sizes are excellent! Servers Jamie and Ross took great care of us and helped suggest some really tasty food!

The food is very good!! The costumer service is excellent!

Burger was raw and asked the woman if that was normal and she said yeah she’s seen ones like that before asked the other girl and she told me no took it away and gave a refund which was good but food is disgusting and overpriced minging don’t go

Food Tasty Enough but do not go close to closing I.E 30 min 1hr to close as i imagine the food has been sitting a while. My partner and I got a Burrito and received food poisoning on the last day of our edinburgh trip making for a Very uncomfortable Train Ride Home.

Having been a regular customer, i could not reccomend FreshMex enough! The food, staff, decor and music are spot on every time. I was greeted at the door and was served quickly and politely. My server Ross was very helpful and assisted me with my order. 5 Stars hands down, i will be back!

Ordered through Deliveroo. Dips are top shelf. Totally ruined by cheap and crappy store bought tortilla chips. I’ve bought the same ones before and they’re dirt cheap and I’d never buy them again. To pay the price for the tortilla chips and dip this high for these is really disappointing, when I know they cost barely anything and I could buy better cheaper from a local supermarket. Up your game, make them fresh or at least switch to luchitos or something, these are terrible. This rating is only based on the ‘freshmex chip and dip’. If you’ve any pride don’t put your name to these crappy tortilla chips

loved it first time (got the loaded fries and am insanely fat quesadilla thingy) yesterday ordered loaded fries again, tasted different amd I'm fairly sure I got a bit of bone which put me right off, I'm funny with meat to begin with. fries were cold and tasted old, BUT the driver never had a delivery bag, so he's definitely at least partly to blame, if not entirely. not sure I'd order again, especially since you don't have the option of buying 2 smaller things and I like a bit of variety, but if want huge portions I'd definitely recommend it. I thought just hugely overpriced but considering the price of everything these days and how big these portions are, it's really worth it

Stopped for a quick lunch. Burrito was good and filling. Service was friendly and fast.

The food was ok - though there were missing ingredients in my burrito (salsa and cheese), and it was heavy on rice and light on the main filling. I couldn't finish the spiced fries as they were way over seasoned. For both, they were over-priced for what what they were - not likely to order from there again. I ordered for sit-in, and half the order came packaged for takeaway and the other half for sit-in (the waiter only brought half the meal at first, thinking that's all I ordered).

It's as good as the one in aberdeen. Super fresh tasty Mexican food, all the toppings 🤩 nachos were superb, huge pile with all sorts on top. Margarita was ok everthing else was fantastic

Ordered a meal deal and didn’t receive the tortilla chips or salsa (which is kinda the reason it’s a meal deal?) Deliveroo offered an 80p refund which we were not impressed by and so contacted the restaurant. The restaurant offered a full refund (to our surprise which obviously we are not going to say no to) but the restaurant then later went against their offer and gave us less. This is so unprofessional and pathetic - do not offer out what you’re not willing to give. we will be avoiding this mediocre place in future.

HANDS DOWN... Best Loaded fries i have had in the UK. Only others iv had beat this place was in America. The Portions are massive in a 10" x5" box. "Loaded" to the top. Beef chilli is 👌🏻. Staff are welcoming and chat away. Short 5+ minutes wait for a freshly cooked full on feed. 100% Top Scran . Cheers Mexers 👍🏻

This is the best takeaway food I have ever eaten hands down. Usually I would always have a little regret after getting takeout but this food was just that satisfying. I devoured it like I hadn't eaten in days. Definitely coming back here the first chance I get. Just a shame they don't have an establishment in Fife.

Good tasty burgers but wow what a wait. Went in for a takeaway, no-one in front of us. Four of us ordered at the same time and was fully 40 minutes before we all got out food. Seem to prioritise food being delivered over customers in-house :-(

I ordered the large burrito and my God this things huge, its a behemoth. I wondered if I could even eat half. Luckily taste was great and managed to finish in one sitting. Haven't felt this accomplished in a while. Thanks

Very good burrito, good service, chili burrito 🌯 🌶 good taste.

This place was great when it opened, however this time it took 20 minutes to get our food, and when we did, the toppings in the burrito were all on one side, so the majority of it was pretty underwhelming. They really need to sort out their placement of the toppings so that it is consistent throughout the burrito. The guacamole was literally just chunks of avocado and it is very expensive for what you actually get.

Love this place. Shoutout to Matt?, Oliver and Caitlin. So welcoming, nice atmosphere and an awesome rice bowl 🙏🏽

Great place to get ready fresh for the next day after a night out 10/10 My personal recipe is to get a double beef burger with guac on the side, put guac between the beef patties fries below bottom pattie and thats whats up

We ordered a custom burrito with pulled pork, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, and crunchy nacho bits. The rice inside was a bit dry and overcooked. Overall it was average tasting (could be due to us not adding an extra sauce so would recommend that). The staff were super friendly and the service was very quick.

I've only eaten here once before and the food was very good :) I like the atmosphere because it's clean, tidy, they play good music and the back has good AC and is usually not busy at all bar 1 or 2 other tables. Which is good to escape the madness of the festival and bust street outside.

The food was quite alright actually, but the service was dreadful. We were a table of 9, and got our burritos wrapped in aluminium foil, the server didn't know which burrito was which one, then asked us to open each of them and find out ourselves. Kinda an issue when half of the table is vegetarian. In the end two of us ended up with no food that we had ordered, so the chef tried to save the situation by cooking what was missing afterwards.

I was there for a lunch meal I had a buritto with beef and it was very bad quality a lot of tendons not actually meat I think the owners should spend some more money for product also it wasn’t a lot of meat in burrito as well. Guacamole was very sour and unripe avocado. After that meal I was sick for 2 days. I will never go back again. Highly not recommended.

Fresh food, fast service. Great place to go for burritos

Staff are lovely - welcoming and attentive! I just really felt like the food was really bland and it was quite expensive for one person. I had a burrito, nachos with dip and a soft drink = £20. The beef chilli was so so bland. Chicken was okay. Guacamole was flavourless as well sadly. I will not come back unfortunately as I cannot recommend the price to food quality ratio.

Terrific spot, glad to have a taste of home (Aberdeen, not Mexico!) Our server Jamie was very helpful and the food came exceptionally quickly, would highly reccomend the Cali burrito and Rice Bowl. We will be back!

Wen’t there for burritos and the food was good. Unfortunately there’s a constant come and go of delivery drivers so it’s not the nicest place to sit in.

Went here after work for a quick burrito. The girl who served was super lovely and told us we could sit anywhere. There were loads of tables as it wasn’t busy. You have to go up to the till to the order even if you’re sitting in (which is fine but just in case anyone wonders). Our food was then brought to our table and was super hot. We both had burritos and picked what the fillings. I don’t like black beans so was easily allowed to not include these and have extra rice instead which was great! You could pick all your fillings which is great if you’re a bit picky 😅 Would go back if I was looking for a burrito 🌯

Inedible burrito delivered by Deliveroo from FreshMex. Hard lumps of chargrilled chicken throughout. There was small piece of plastic in the first bite. I’m totally put off.

We love getting takeaway from here so thought we'd pop in for lunch while on Lothian Road. On the plus side the food is great and the staff are friendly. Portions are huge and everything tastes super fresh. The Quesadilla with pulled pork and the loaded fries are especially good. On the negative side I think the place was really understaffed for a Saturday lunchtime and we ended up waiting ages for some of our party's order. My partner and I had finished our food by the time our pals had received theirs and that was after we asked for an update, twice. All in all it was delicious and I'd definitely recommend ordering takeout but if you're dining in and it looks busy then maybe factor in some extra waiting time.

Good Burritos but a bit pricey.

What a great place!!!!!! Admittedly I prejudged the place as it looked too "chainy" and didn't think it'd be good. Thanks to a work lunch I've been introduced to this place, and it's great!!! There are loads of options and filling combinations available -which are REALLY delicious! I look forward to going back and trying need things. You basically select a main, add a filling (or two) and then lots of different toppings! Even better; there are gluten free options available; rice bowl and nachos Staff were absolutely lovely, down to earth, friendly and helpful Freshmex started out in Aberdeen and this is their next branch, great to see! I'm a new fan now and look forward to my next visit Price wise I think it's good; ~£12 for nachos and a drink.

AMAZING NACHOS!! I had the haggis covered nachos which came highly recommended to me and it definitely lived up to my expectations. The haggis was tasty and fresh, and they packed on a generous amount. I also had a couple of the sauces on the side and each was very tasty. £10 was very reasonable and you get a generous portion for the money. Side note: the ghost paper sauce isn't as spicy as you'd expect if you're used to spicy food.

Ordered two burritos and two drinks. £30 for two liquid filled tortillas. 4 little bits of chicken in each burrito. A really disappointing and overpriced experience. We both had a couple of bites then left. Definitely won't be returning.

Excellent Haggis buritto and a beer. Had the regular size and it was plenty big enough.Friendly welcoming staff. Reasonable prices. Will come again if in Edinburgh. Thanks

It's one of the few mexican food places in Edinburgh worth trying.

Encargamos unos burritos para llevar acompañados de unas patatas fritas. La comida estaba rica. El trato fué normal.

Was a decent burrito, good flavours, service was good and the food came quick. I also liked the lime beer. I added some toppings like cheese and jalapenos but I only got about 3 jalapenos and a sprinkle of cheese. These miserly topping portions need to be increased. This will improve the burrito quality.

My fellow vegetarians.. this is the BEST burrito I’ve had in a long time. Big, tasty, and the price is OK! Highly recommended

The meat in the burger was nice but you are only allowed one more topping in the price, so if you want anything else you're paying for it. Not even ketchup is free. The fries were cooked in unclean oil, I used to ge a chef, I know when the oil is past its best. I would not eat here again.

As an American in Edinburgh I’ve struggled to find a really good burrito - and I’ve never had a potato burrito in the UK which is one of my guilty pleasures back home. This place exceeded expectations and it was brilliant to be able to add as many toppings as you want in multiple combos - most places charge quite a bit extra for anything beyond the basics. I also never think the sauces are spicy enough so really loved the ghost chilli. Will definitely be back!

Food is so fresh and tasty. Staff were friendly and accommodating to my pal who was gluten free. Normally go to the one in Aberdeen and was really impressed this one had the same nice vibe to it and the Burritos are just as good! The chicken was grilled to perfection Couldn't recommend enough.

FreshMex is a regular takeaway of mine and I can’t stay away! The veggie haggis is a personal favourite (Additional points for free guac!!!). They nail the portion sizing and the flavour always hits (PS travels well even on snowy hikes in the pentlands)

Came looking for bar burrito and found fresh mex in its place. In my opinion the food is more expensive and less tasty.

We showed up in a rain storm and they made us sit outside even though they had room inside. They food was not authentic Mexican and they spilled my margarita but did not offer to get me another one.

Normally I order the food but noticed a bit of lack of portions, so decided to walk in to get my order and I’m abit disappointed. Gave my order but still there’s missing items, when my bf went he had gotten a much better portion than I did, im abit annoyed and don’t want to jump to this conclusion but seems like the girls only do this for men or something. Missing the crunch nachos, one small chicken and mainly salad and sauce :/ Despite the lack of portion and missing nachos, it is a delicious meal. Would recommend this as a great snacking option.

the chicken and chorizo quesadilla contained a few small bones. My partner very briefly choked on one of the small bones causing quite a lot of distress. It really spoiled our enjoyment of the meal and could have resulted in something more serious. I sent them the above on email twice hoping to resolve the issue privately, however they did not respond so have no choice but to leave a review

Great wee place food was amazing

Burritos are one of my favourite foods. You get a great choice of fillings and extra. Unfortunately, the burritos I've ordered have always been pretty tasteless.

Really great texmex food. Ingredients are all fresh and Cali Borrito is insanely tasty. No extra charge for fillings so you can make some absolute banging combos.

Don't recommend. 1st time using here. Will sadly be the last. Chips were cold and very soggy. Ordered 1 large 1 regular burrito. They came both exact same size! The filling was nearly all rice in both. Had to search for chicken in mine. Partner had the bbq pork but said "Where's the extra crispy Chorizo I ordered plus its nearly all rice." No sign of the cheese, sour cream, guacamole on them either! Also the skinniest burrito we have ever had. If you want a rice wrap this is the place to go! Will stick to the other places we usually use much better standard! Can taste and see all the ingredients in theirs and lots of meat!

Really good Burritos and fantastic service. We went in to grab some lunch to take with us before we heading on a long drive and the staff took the time to make sure the food was wrapped up well so it kept fresh.

Great food, great service. We were there on a quiet lunchtime, could have done with some music or something and the place was a bit chilli up the back where we were sitting. They'd only just opened I think but I'm sure staff will have been in before 12 so could have got the heating on for a bit before opening.

Thought it was excellent, food very fresh and tasty although I did eat far too much!!

Disappointing. Menu looks good, but food is less so. Jackfruit rice-dish lacking fresh ingredients and spices. Sorry to say, but it ranks poorly against other Mexican-style eateries in Edinburgh.

1st time in FreshMex last Sunday (11.12.22). Food was delicious and big portions for us and the kids.

The California style burrito was pretty refreshing for a change. There are vegan options available and I quite like the overall flavour of the burrito. Would recommend to try once for sure.

Pleasant Mexican food joint, offering a fairly wide range of dishes at fair prices. The food was very filling, and there was an interesting and exotic selection of drinks also. The Cali Burrito has to be the best burrito I have had in Edinburgh.

The staff are very nice and the food is ok. It took a long time for the food to arrive once we had ordered even though the restaurant wasn't busy. When the food arrived the sides were cold.
