Excellent gluten free fish and chips (and onion rings!) cooked in a separate fryer and costing no more extra than non GF. The batter was the best GF option I’ve tried. Knowledgeable staff ensured we were comfortable that our coeliac child would be eating safely. I think the GF fryer is always available, but always best to check.

This is a great fish&chip restaurant to eat in or takeaway, they catered for my daughters coeliac so no gluten aloud in her diet. Perfect fish and batter, and the chip's were Crispy and so tasty.

Went for lunch with a friend but had the set menu . Very reasonably priced Absolutely faultless and nothing was too much trouble Thank you Bex and Nath will be back soon

We have just been to the Haven in Gorran Haven. We enjoyed a wonderful meal. The staff as always were great. This really is a jewel of a place. The food is always of the the highest standard. We are very lucky to live here so we get the benefit of this food all year round. If you are visiting and if you don’t eat out anywhere else then visit this eatery. You can either eat in or take away. I guarantee you will nkt be disappointed.

Our first visit this evening and I can honestly say it’s the best fish and chips I have ever had! Light crispy batter, thick chunky cod all cooked to perfection. Very friendly staff too

Man kann Urlaub machen in Gorran Have, was für ein idyllischer Ort. Jeden Tag einkehren im the Haven, was gibt es besseres, einfach lecker, freundlich, hilfsbereit. Ausser Montag, da hat das the Haven Ruhetag, war nicht so einfach den Tag zu überstehen.

The best service I’ve ever received at a fish & chip shop! The food was ready exactly when they said it would be, we were given a buzzer which meant we could sit on the beach while we waited. Everything was carefully packed in compostable packaging. The food was good and reasonably priced.

We visited today and had lunch was the best fish and chips I’ve had for a very long time hopefully can come and visit again whilst we are staying near by. And the staff were so friendly. This picture I added was only a child’s portion 😍

Lunchtime treat... and boy it was a treat... fish was fresh as fresh and the special lunch deal comes with a side dish, bread and butter AND choice of hot drink... a good find, a VERY good find!

Now we know a thing or two about fish and chips as we live just a short walk from one of the most awarded fish and chip shops in the country. So here is the news…. this one is better!!! We had a lovely lunch freshly cooked, well presented and served very professionally. The only downside is that you are not allowed to upsize the fixed price lunch to the larger fish which would have been even better!! Nevertheless an excellent place for your fish and chip fix!!!

The best fish and chips EVER! All cooked fresh to order. The fish batter and chips were so lovely and crisp. It’s a stand out restaurant as not all fish and chip restaurants are served to this standard. The home made curry and tartar sauce was delicious. Lovely staff who were very welcoming. Fresh flaky cod. My partner and I said it truly was the best fish and chips we’ve ever had! It was also great to have a ‘smaller appetites’ option. Thank you for a great experience in Cornwall. :-)

We’ve been visiting Gorran Haven for many years and stay in the village during every school holiday ... so we have used the wonderful Haven Fish and Chips many , many times ! The new refurbishment is fantastic both inside, outside and online . You can order from the newly placed takeaway / click and collect door , order online and choose your time slot or eat inside . We found the online ordering especially helpful and my teenage children used this way to order several times during half term . It’s a very easy to use website and the food was always ready right on time when they went to collect . If there were no slots at peak time , when we made a last minute decision to get a takeaway , we simply ordered in person and were given a ‘beeper’ to tell us when to collect - again this new system we found worked really well . We also had a few meals inside the gorgeous new restaurant area . The staff , as we also found at the take away area , are all extremely friendly and polite and of course the food was as good as always - we loved the new chips ( me a little too much , I can normally leave chips alone but not these!!) . I’m vegetarian and there’s plenty for me - halloumi fries with a really fresh side salad was my favourite. The rest of my family always say the fish is the best from the Haven ! Lots for my 5 year old to choose from and these meals are a perfect size . Thank you and can’t wait to come back again soon!

We have visited regularly the haven from our home in St Austell before the makeover, so when the make over had been completed we had to take a trip. And The Haven didn't disappointed! Beautifully and tastfully refurbished the shops is well stocked with all the bits and pieces you could possibly need for a day at the beach. The restaurant is contemporary but welcoming and we wish we had booked a table instead! However we ordered online which was super easy and not difficult to bespoke what we wanted ! Ordering fish and chips always seems so faffy but this was all made super easy online... we arrived and our order was just being made so super fresh and hot when we got it. The batter wss perfect light and crispy and the chips were delicious and not greasy or over cooked!! The staff were exceptionally busy like the rest of Cornwall at the moment however there were plenty of smiles all round and we can't wait for our next visit! Thank you guys !!

Visited The Haven with a group of friends, and had booked our slots for our food for just after we arrived, as of course you would nowadays as the pandemic has sent the world in a spin and the need to regulate and organise (as best you can with the British public especially!) the onslaught of tourists that swamp Cornwall in a post lock down world that has left no many choices for people other than to holiday at home. Having seen an earlier review complaining about slots I can't get my head round the fact they think about forward planning or even considering they may not be the only one's wanting fish and chips from the only chippy for a good few rural miles.But anyway, you can't understand blatant ignorance if you have a functioning brain along with the slightest bit of awareness of the current situation.So when we arrived, my friend's was called out bang on time, then one by one, so the rest came out, all within a few minutes of the time slots, more than remarkable considering the small crowd of people that were all there for a slice of the golden fry!When I got my hands on my fish and chips (and mozzarella sticks!), walked along the coast path to view the harbour and sea, it was perfect, great food and good company makes all the difference in life.Always worth the drive, top service from the staff, always warms the soul with great, quality food!Well done The Haven for sticking through these times, and to any impatient tourist, take a look around, you aren't the only one here and think about the person who's pouring their all into providing you a great experience...

I have been coming to beautiful Gorran Haven for some years now and one treat has always been getting fish & chips and having them on the beach. However, my visit here makes me think this is another pleasure forever consigned to the past. It used to be a hatch where you could cure up and order your fish and chips, like any fish and chip shop anywhere in England. Now It has been thoroughly upgraded to provide a sit-down meal area and has succumbed to the Covid culture of reserving ‘slots’ online. The upshot of this is that should you dare to just ‘turn up’ and happen to fancy some fish and chips you are very much bottom of the priority queue. I was told I would have to wait 45 mins. I trundled back to the beach and walked over again after that time. It took a further 20 mins (so over an hour in total) to get my order. When it did come they had left out the mushy peas. Perhaps the worst of it, though, was that the chips were more like generic ‘restaurant’ chips rather than traditional ‘chippy’ chips. In bringing things ‘up to date’, presumably ‘for our convenience,’ they have managed to ruin a very simple but treasured English experience.

Ordered a takeaway fish and chip lunch for us and our friends whilst staying very nearby. Great food and a very efficient booking service online made it a pleasurable experience without any fuss. Lots of food on offer aside from fish and chips - tartare sauce portions are sizeable so no need to do what we did and order 8 portions for 4 people!!! Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

Living locally I could not wait to try out the newly refurbished HAVEN restaurant and takeaway.I decided to eat inside because of the inclement weather and was warmly greeted and shown to my table. Everything about the place is carefully designed to make the customer feel special. That is even before the wonderful food is served. I had fish chips and curry sauce – the fish was tasty and the batter crispy. The chips – a very generous portion – were cooked brilliantly and accompanied by a tasty curry sauce.We are so lucky to have this fantastic local chip shop run by a very hard-working young couple. I shall be returning very soon

How lucky to be around the corner from this great business just reopened. Friendly, efficient, and most of all completely delicious. My gluten free batter was crisp and delicious, my husband's large haddock was a giant, tasty portion also in perfect batter. Even waiting for it outside was a great experience as the tide surged onto the tiny road just a few yards away.

After our stunning coastal path walk we felt very fortunate to find these guys open at lunchtime as they only re opened today after lockdown and a refurb. The delicious cod and haddock were freshly cooked in great batter, and the medium portion of yummy chippy was very generous ( and pipping hot) . My partner enjoyed the mushy peas too! Staff were v friendly and helpful. Ate on a bench, in the sunshine overlooking the beach, what a great lunch! Thank you.

Great value, excellent fish and brilliant service. All in an ideal quiet location that will give you some outstanding views whilst you eat.

We stayed near by and ate here too often, that's because the food was great! We had wonderful weather on our trip so sitting out looking at the sea whilst eating fish and chips seemed the best way to spend the evening. Fish was great, chips were lovely and the staff were excellent. Given how busy Friday night was we were treated like the only customers around, that's surprisingly rare.

Faultless little find on the harbour, Haven have surpassed my expectations which were already high from reading the recommendations. We tried both the cod and the haddock and the large pieces were amazing, light crispy batter covering thick juicy flakes, freshly cooked to order and served with fresh thickly cut chips, no scraps. So good we came back twice. Icing on the cake for us was the amazing customer service, as we were stuck with the grandkids in Maccies we thought we would miss our longed for fish n chip tea, took a chance and phoned our order ahead for pick at 8pm, their closing time. I thing was too much trouble for these guys, freshly cooked to perfection large haddock and chips ready for us at closing time. Thank you guys, we will be back.

Absolute restaurant quality fish and chips, we added mushy peas & curry sauce as recommended by another reviewer and we weren’t disappointed, ate them on the beach on our last evening......bliss.

Another lovely week spent in Gorran :) We always have dinner from the haven several times when we are in Gorran , the food this year has been fabulous as always and can’t recommend enough to anyone visiting .Good arrangements in place to ensure visitors are safe due to COVID-19 but you still feel relaxed visiting and ordering - try the shop next door for lots of lovely beach bits and things to take home !

First time we have had fish and chips from here and we were not disappointed, freshly cooked to order, perfectly cooked fish with a light crispy batter, not greasy, - will definitely come back.

The best food is always good ingredients treated with respect and that is just what we got. Really fresh, well cooked fish in the lightest batter and with nice chunky chips (none of your revolting McDonalds stringy things here, thank you).We took our paper-wrapped packages to the benches on the seafront and all sat in a line admiring the sea and enjoying our lunch. I’ve eaten fish and chips all over the place and the haven for me is the best fish I’ve eaten. A must if your in the area. Just wish it was open everyday all year :)

On a recent holiday to Mevagissey we visited the Haven twice, once to eat in and again for a takeaway.Inside it's clean, bit the Ritz, but does the job. Our daughter was in one of her fussy moods, but the staff were happy to accommodate her choice of meal! The takeaway service whilst not brisk, was a lot quicker than most seaside chippy's. On both occasions the food was well cooked, although the takeaway portions were more generous and cheaper. So my top tip, unless it's raining get a takeout and eat on one if the benches by the harbour....spot on!

Visiting this little cove and came across this nice little fish and chip shopit was lunch time and the kids were hungry so we thought we would give this a goFood is cooked to order, which is a good thing, you know it has not been sat for a hour, and also they are very freindly and welcoming. no issues with sand on your feet here.the food arrived and the onion rings i ordered was out of this world, massive and impressive are the words that came to mind, lightly coated in crispy batter. the fish was equally the same with good well cooked chips.my son had a homemade burger, which he said he enjoyed and tasted better than previous ones he had eaten elsewhere, and the bread bun looked fresh and light.The thing here is that the portion of food was relevant to what you wanted to eat, not massive amounts of chips and oversized fish, a really good all round meal. The peas need a mention too, really tatsted like the good old mushy peas like i used to remember, not like some i have tried locally to where i live.A good clean premises with a bigger than average menu to choose from, a gem of a spot that really needs a good shout out for good efforts.We ate for 4 for less than 30 quid, that is very good value for money in my book, considering all the food and drinks we had on the go, locally that would have been far more, and we paid more than that in other places in cornwall, so well done to them for keeping it affordable. I would go back here in a heart beat and recommend a visit

What a great find. Fish and chips cooked to order; sustainably sourced fish, recyclable packaging, friendly service and great tasting fish and ships. What’s not to like???? ... oh, and a great view from a nearby bench!!!!

Can't fault the fish and chips here they were excellent. I loved the service by the curly haired dude, he sounded a bit like a computer voiceover or something but very jovial and brightened up what was a miserable day. They even let us borrow a tray to take our food to the beach, which was a bit of a shock initially. You can't do this up north as it would probably be used as a weapon or something.

I'm glad we avoided the queues in Padstow and made our way to Gorran Haven for fish and chips instead. The takeaway is very friendly and efficiently organised and the food is great. Even during busy times the service is quick and the quality remains high. Great value for money as well!

3 standard fish, 1 large unbattered sausage, 2 kids portions of scampi with chips, 1 large portion of chips, 3 pickled onions, 1 small pot of curry sauce and a little pot of tartare sauce = £31.

Had cups of tea and ice creams. We were allowed to take our mugs on to the beach and enjoy at leisure.

Only sunny day so popped to Gorran Haven and had fish and chips with their homemade tarare sauce. Delicious!

Nice clean chippy only a short walk from the beach, ladies serving were friendly and even lend you a tray so that you may take your food down to sit by the sea.

This is just the best fish and chips you can get by the sea, we have just come back from another week in Gorran and we cant recommend this shop enough !

My partner and I have been staying in Gorran Haven for a few nights as a break. We decided to get fish and chips and were really looking forward to it because the reviews were great. We decided we would have cod bites and chips, with sides of mushy peas, tartar and curry sauce too. Unfortunately the food a low standard. The cod bites were extremely oily and so my partner (who usually has a great appetite) could not eat them. The chips were average and the tartar sauce was wasn’t great. We won’t be having fish and chips here if we ever return to lovely Gorran Haven.

Visited whilst we were staying at Treveague Farm campsite. Chips were great but the fish was out of this world. Crispy batter, really great texture and overall the best fish & chips that I've come across. We'll be back!!

Had the most amazing takeaway gluten free fish and chips here on Friday night. The batter was tasty and the chips and were the best I have had for a long time. All of it was cooked in a separate fryer. My husband also enjoyed his fish and chips. They must have been good because we ate the lot!

The portion size is huge and the fish was very fresh. There is a good range of traditional accompaniments, pickled onions, eggs etc., and the staff were friendly and efficient.

All the food was cooked to order so everyone got fresh food every time. The large cod definitely lives up to its name and the batter is crispy even after traveling back wrapped up to our tent. The food was lovely from here well worth a visit

We were doing the coastal path when we arrived to Gorran Haven. We stumbled across this lovely little chippie and had a couple of portions of fish & chips. They were among the best we've ever had. Crispy chips, tasty fish in a crispy and tasty batter. Very nice tartare sauce. Very nice and friendly service. Wish I can get back there again!

Just go if you're in Gorran Haven. Great chippie - our fish and chips were excellent. Also had some very nice crab-cakes - unusual and very nice. Friendly service. They lend you a tray if youre on the beach - which is very useful.

Arrived today and rather then cook went to get fish and chips. Well worth it. Cod and chips lovely. Onion rings are fantastic worth just getting these.

Fish & chips / Pie & chips was fabulously tasty for the price. Everything was freshly cooked while you waited (about 10 minuets)! The staff was very friendly and helpful with a smile!!

I literally stumbled into this great chippy - the South West Coastal Path ‘spits’ you out into Gorran Haven just by the Haven Takeaway.

The best fish and chips served by lovely, friendly staff. Take the fish and chips to the beach which is only a few steps away. Couldn't be better. Delicious and freshly cooked.

You have to wait for your fish and chips to be ready because nothing is kept in warmers, all the food is freshly cooked, and is definitely worth the wait. Possibly the best fish and chips ever.

This is a very small, very busy takeaway, so expect to queue and expect to then wait as the food it all cooked fresh to order but it’s worth the wait. Choose a nice day so you can enjoy your fish and chips around the tiny Gorran Haven harbourside. I was probably unlucky as I had a tail end of cod but the batter was perfectly light and a huge portion of chips. Don’t worry it’s not just fish there are plenty of other options for anyone in a group who doesn’t like fish.

Food is cooked to order in gluten free batter and in a separate fryer so no contamination.
