The Hart, Duston in Northampton

We are really lucky to have The Hart as our local pub. We visit often with family and friends and our labrador. The pub is always welcoming, great food and welcoming for our dog and children. We had a lovely visit at the weekend, staff were so friendly and nice with our dog - lot's of fuss and dog treats available. We had a great meal in the bar area - would recommend the sharing platter! Great selection of drinks and menu great evening all round. Thank you :)

Terrible beef tough and uneatable when I complained about the fact that on menu it said pink this was not told that I should have come earlier I was there at 1:30 !! service slow would not recommend

The food was good but would have been great if it had been served on hot plates, unfortunately the veg was only warm but the extra veg and gravy Wes hot. Our puddings, blackberry and apple crumble with custard/crean was delicious and hot( plate cold). We had an enjoyable meal. Staff polite, friendly and helpful. They were busy and seemed a little under staffed but we enjoyed our visit and will go again 🥂

A large family party this lunchtime of 17 and we pre-ordered the food. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful as some of our party had travelled a long way and were going to be a bit late. The kids were entertained with crayons and colouring and find the reindeer game. The chef held back the starters for half an hour and once the starters and then the mains arrived they were freshly cooked and piping hot.This is the third family birthday we have celebrated at the Hart and it is always excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly annd ensured we all had a lovely time.

A proper pub and a really decent place to eat. Have been 5 times over the last year as we are round the corner, and its so consistently good! Regardless of who is on or how busy they are the staff are unflappable and really friendly and the perfect level of attentive. I always have the fishcakes, so hollandaise sauce is too good.

Me and my family enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast on the weekend, I was abit apprehensive after I booked as heard mixed reviews for their roasts but we were all really pleased, my only niggle was that it would have been nice if they were homemade roast potatoes instead of frozen ones and if you got a few more on your plate but other than that both the meals and desserts were all thoroughly enjoyed :) the pub/restaurant had a nice vibe and it was quite quiet when we first arrived and started to get a bit busier as the afternoon went on, staff were all lovely and helpful too.

It's not a good place. People behind the bar are not bothered to serve the clients. The lady was too busy polishing wine glass instead of serving customers. So, if you do not want to be treated as a second-class citizen, avoid at all cost. It was on Friday night around 9:15 pm.

Food good, but due to food on unheated plates it was cool. Asked about food allergies and checked that food ordered was suitable.

Very dog friendly pub, my 2 border collies love coming here.

We had fish and chips which was very good but service for drinks was slow and never did get the water we asked for

Managed to walk in and get a table on a weekday lunchtime. It was very quiet, which suited us perfectly. All three of us complimented the food, the chips were especially tasty

What a shame!!! One chef doing his best!! Food was hot & enjoyable. 3 unorganised staff doing the bar & trying to sort out the customers, in between holding a conversation between themselves. A manager?? Not actually managing the staff . It was a school holiday, so mums and children. I have seen it busier & service time was better. A 35 minute wait for food, even after nobody came to my table to take my order!!! This is ONE of my locals!!! Could do a huge amount BETTER

As always, an amazing meal and such value for money. The mixed grill is fantastic and cooked to perfection. I had the macaroni cheese and this was delicious. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, can't wait to go back!!

Pub was very quiet and we can now see why. Will not be returning nor recommending to anyone, avoid for food.

We have now been here 3 times, and honestly the food is absolutely delicious! Every time we've tried something different and have not been disappointed. The staff are friendly, attentive and go out of their way. Will definitely be back. Unfortunately no pics as we couldn't wait to tuck in ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Don't forget to book otherwise you may be disappointed. We have been refused food several times. When we complained we received several very polite emails. The establishment doesn't encourage walk-ins.

Visited on Saturday (group of 20 of us) for a family get together. Greeted on arrival by a lady called Becca, super friendly and polite, who from the start to the end of our visit was totally attentive to our needs and seemed determined to ensure we had a great time. We had to pre order as it was a large group, but as soon as I mentioned we needed to make a couple of menu changes they were just dealt with ( this hasn't been the case in other places we have eaten) chef did an amazing job, all the food coming out together, hot, and all correct. Good selection on the menu and certainly good value for prices charged. One of the 4 year old's had a melt down over ice-cream flavour, Becca had this swapped out before the tears had dried. Although the pub was pretty busy she also took time out to speak to us, without being intrusive, to both get to know us a little and ensure we were fully aware of timings etc should we want to book again for Christmas. Along with the other front of house staff (also excellent) she really made us feel like she wanted us to be there, not simply a large group with lots of kids that she would have to "deal with" we are all quick to complain when service is poor, so only right we also highlight when people get it absolutely right. Fantastic meal at The Hart Saturday we were a group of 21 including children and family from America. Staff were helpful before the visit assisting with booking the event. On the day all food came out hot and together and was delicious Becca was on hand to ensure all our needs were met. Nothing was too much trouble thank you Becca and team for a wonderful evening.

Lovely pub with a wide ranging menu and very friendly staff

Just back from lunch at The Hart, have to say it was very nice, I have marked the atmosphere down simply because it was a late lunch and there were only 3 tables being served inside, no fault of the staffs. The service was very good, the staff attentive and informative the food good enough to make us want to go back to try other things on the menu. We will return.

Very nice pub with a garden and a kids area and delicious menu!

Decided to pop out for a quick main meal . Waiting 15mins plus before seeing if we would like a drink we found a little slow. Food was OK but my issue is the bill . I expect to be presented with a bill which has a break down of my items ordered so you can cross check to make sure its correct . A till receipt showing an amount doesn't do that . When the manager was told about this she blamed staff for being new . Maybe better training or a review on how you bill is needed

Came over for a meal today it was lovely will be back , service ,food was top 👌 plenty of it

Ages since visited but wasn't disappointed....just popped in for coffee and cake along with the pooch. (Carrot cake was great) The staff were lovely and we could sit in bar with Teddy. Lots of nice eating spots throughout and the menu was varied pub grub at reasonable prices. Outdoor seating with play area was excellent. Will definitely return for a meal 😋 See menu below. Ps ..there is electric car charging in car park.

We had the friendliest of welcomes by all the staff at this pub when we visited for the first time for the 'Doggy Brunch'. We really enjoyed our breakfasts & our pooch was delighted to be included with a 'Free' sausage & a Puppachino too! It was such a lovely treat to find such a dog friendly pub & can't wait to return again! As an added bonus another very friendly dog owner told us about 'Harleston Firs' which is a great place to walk your dog either before or after this Event! Thank you so much.

Hadn't been in this pub since it was the Rifle Butt with the great landlord Pete Kenny . Not really keen on the farrow and ball carzy pubs , but the Hart was lovely didn't eat but the food looked great , the beet was well priced as well .Dog freindly and close to Harleston firs would defo recommend a visit .

Been waiting to visit here for some years now. Plenty of tables around to choose where we wanted to sit. No table app service so had to go to the bar to order and also ask for a food menu. All the staff were very polite and friendly. Good time waiting for drinks and food. The man behind the bar made my cocktails very nice. The only disappointment we had was the food. The burger was nice but the chips were quite hard and greasy compared to other pubs. The desserts were ok but the ice cream was very poor as you could taste the hard ice inside each bite and it wasn't very soft or 'melty'. For the price I have been to other pubs that are slightly better quality. Would maybe return but think just for a few drinks.

Went to friends anniversary party which was well catered since it wasn't a set meal and everyone ordered from the menu. Went for lunch 1/2/2024 good food. Friendly staff. Pity that it was quite as like a busy pub for a bit of atmosphere. But would go again.

We had a great breakfast and coffee accompanied by other dog owners. Really good experience.

Party of 10 on Boxing day. Minimal decorations. No crackers . Not enough staff on duty to serve. Only 2 other tables of 4 to serve. So not exactly busy. Food was sporadic in coming to the table but staff tried their best but seemed stretched.. one pre ordered starter never arrived. It stated on the menu that it was ciabatta garlic bread but when it arrived it was sliced toast with garlic butter.! Desert was the worst in terms of late arriving to the table. Most were cold deserts ordered. Was told have run out of vanilla ice cream. All in all not a great meal and very disappointing for a family gathering on Boxing day.

I would like to thank the staff for their efforts in delivering 21 meals on Sunday afternoon. All the food that was served up was enjoyed by everyone unfortunately not at the same time as some of the party had finished before some had started . Like I say it must be very difficult to serve up 21 people at the same time . Anyway everyone enjoyed their meals and get together. Popped in for a very quick bite before a funeral. Hadn't booked a table, but thankfully the front of house team found us a spot (during the busy festive period). Ordered two sandwiches amd two pints of ale. Both incredibly tasty, promptly served (within 15 mins of ordering) and very fresh. Great service!

Absolutely shocking Xmas dinner. Group of ladies out for Xmas evening together The meal was a disgrace, people who had prawn cocktail starter Said stale bread, had to ask for butter and couldn't see or taste thousand island sauce. Main meal 2 sprouts burnt parsnips un carrots all cold The turkey was yuck and has for the gravey it just plopped on your plate Never again, be warned

The manger was disgusting rude and the food was cold, the waiting staff were as helpful as they were aloud to be. Will Not be going there again

Waste of money, cold or burnt food, missing ingredients. Prawn cocktails arrived without sauce and no butter for bread. Which was not bloomer just stale white. Veg burnt and cold. Steak tough and inedible, no sauce. No option offered to have it cooked to my liking. £23.99 a waste of money

A belated review for a visit 3 weeks ago, our group had to move from a booking at the Squirrel's due to unforeseen circumstances. We were given a place at The Hart and were delighted by the welcome Rebecca and her team gave us. We all enjoyed our wonderful food ranging from steaks to pies - all hot and freshly prepared. The team were helpful and friendly, the pub was clean and nicely set out. A most enjoyable visit and will be recommended by us all. Thank you.

Party of eight mid week lunchtime. Had to wait a long time for food ... people came in well after us but got served much quicker. Soup was cold so sent back. Waitress lovely

Sunday roast not carvery, already plated up beef dry and tough not that great, place very quiet.

Miranda and Team have made this place a great pub to return to on a regular basis. We love going here. The staff are friendly and everyone there is welcoming.

Was not impressed at all with our experience on our last visit. Don't get me wrong the staff were very friendly and polite. Firstly my mother asked what fruit ciders they had on draught to be told they didn't have any, apparently they only had bottles. So we checked and they did have draught which was very much working and available. We then ordered our food (by which point I was very hungry and so were the others). We ordered various starters and mains to be sent separately. The wait was way too long especially as it didn't seem particularly busy and we had a 5 year old with us. The starters were very enjoyable but then had to wait an age for the mains to arrive. I had ordered the Lamb Shank and as I was still very hungry I'd ordered the sides of pig (yes singular) in blanket, roast potatoes as I wasn't sure mine should have roasties. I also ordered mine with mash as I asked if it was proper mash or packet mash (smash). They said it was proper mash! Although we had to wait I was excited about this dinner. Then it all started to go wrong. Our dinners finally arrived and my mash wasn't with my dinner. I asked about it and they went off to sort it for me. The roasties were like they had been cooked weeks ago and were hard and not very pleasant. The singular pig in blanket was burnt round the edges, thus isn't turning out to good but at least I've got my mash coming and have the lamb shank to tuck into. Well I thought id start my lamb shank whilst waiting for my mash still and it was such a disappointment as the lamb shank was freezing cold. Called one of the waitress' over at which point my mash was on its way as well. Can you guess yet???? Yes it was packet mash. All in all my meal was a disaster, they did take my meal off the bill and said I could have a desert for free but that wasn't my lamb shank and to be honest I'm not a massive desert fan I prefer my meaty mains. The other people's in my party meals were ok at best but I definitely won't be returning here for food again. Stay away, if you want a decent meal go somewhere else!

Poor effort. So many staff on but no tables cleared, especially outside food and rubbish all over the floor. All the tables were sticky also. Ordered food, waited a long time for it to arrive. No turkey on one roast, No roast potatoes on roast dinners 'we've sold out you should have been told' veg non existent and what was there was hard.. mash like thick glue. Overcooked steak, cold chips and no peas- we werent told this either.. Onion rings missing. Gravy so thick and lumpy you could have built a house with it. The manager gave us a refund, but we won't be eating there again. and whilst we were stood at the bar all of the waitresses and the kitchen staff were quite clearly talking about us and gawping out of the kitchen window..... rude.

Ate here on 23rd Sept. Nice atmosphere and the place is welcoming. The two waitresses on provided good service. Lots of option on the menu, but unfortunately the hot honey burger was missing honey, as well as other things it should have come with, making it quite dry and basic. I ordered a medium rare sirloin, but it was neither a sirloin or medium rare, was more well done. The beef dripping was really nice though. The gammon dish was missing peas, but that’s not the end of the world and we could’ve let that slide. Dessert was nice but the plate was piping hot to the point one of us burnt ourselves. I didn’t know at the time as I was up at the bar paying but I’m told by a family member that the assistant manager was rude and obnoxious when asking what the problem with the food was. All in all, not a great experience - mistakes do happen but the place wasn’t busy at all so less excuses. Granted, they did give us a small bit of discount but if there’s no improvement then I’m not interested in returning. Shame as all reviews were good.

Had a few drinks and some food, very friendly staff and a nice feel to the place overall. The beer garden is nice and the toilets were very clean which is a great sign for a pub! Ale selection was small, but what they had was great and the general drinks selection was decent otherwise. Food was very nice overall - pricier than many other Midlands pubs, but I come from London so felt very cheap to me!

There was a party of 10 of us came today for the first time. Really impressed with the food. Lamb shank and southern fried chicken burgers were both lovely.Everybody really enjoyed what they had and we will definitely be back. Kids were kept occupied in the garden.

We loved the food have booked family party for 25 in November after enjoying our visit so much!

Good food, nice pub, nice people

This is the 3rd time I've been to The Hart since it has been under new management and each time it has been a good experience. The food has been good quality for the price and the atmosphere has been relaxing and enjoyable. Great result to have a pub in walking distance that I will be visiting again.

First time at The Hart, we all had a Sunday Roast, best one we've had in a while.

Food was excellent, freshly cooked and piping hot. Great choice too. The service was fantastic, drinks and food served quickly and with a smile by our lovely server. Will definitely go back.

Had a birthday party lunch there recently for 25 guests and we all enjoyed our meals mainly from the Sunday lunch menu. The chef did a great job and the organising on the day by Kat. was faultless. All the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the lunch a very pleasant experience. We are lucky to have the Hart in Duston and we will continue to support it.

We held the celebration of my father's life here. The Hart was closed to us for 3 hours. The service we received was amazing. The manager and staff were helpful and compassionate. The buffet served was delicious and freshly cooked, the chef and staff presented the food beautifully and we were even given take away boxes!. The whole experience exceeded our expectations Highly recommended.

It was father's day and very busy but the staff were very good as was the food.

Came here on Friday to have a drink. Kelsie, one of the bar staff/waitresses, was very accommodating to our needs as a large group, she also informed us of the offers available and made us feel very welcome. The prices for Gin were good too especially as I was drinking doubles! Better than most pubs at the moment in northampton! Will be returning to have food & I hope we are served by Kelsie again!

Very busy but staff were brilliant👍 food came quite quickly and was very nice. Outside seating very nice and plenty of it.

We attended a Function there. The Team are amazingly attentive, very courteous and complete professionals. Whilst still maintaining a relaxed and family friendly atmosphere.

The chips were rank, I want chips, not frozen rubbish for those prices but that's not the main complaint... the steak! I ordered an 8oz Sirloin well done, I got a slippery grey very fatty and frankly disgusting looking slab of cheap meat that I wouldn't feed to the dog! It looked boiled! We weren't going to make a fuss, couldn't be bothered but the staff member asked and could clearly see I hadn't touched it, on taking it to the counter I heard another member of staff sharply ask why I didn't send it back, valid point I guess but ordinarily I'm not a complainer... We asked not to pay for the steak as I'd not eaten it, after a fair bit of deciding what to do they gave me a 50% staff feeding?? discount at the till, which is fine but we still paid £28 for 3 cokes and a katsu chicken curry... Not great and won't be returning, especially not for the "sirloin"

Good Sunday lunch apart from being very salty

Loved the hart anyway but much improved now No1 landlady has it. Lovely updates to the pub. Just hosted a 30th in the recently renovated garden as well which was absolutely brilliant 👏🏻

The refurbishment looks lovely and the new menu looks good (the fishcakes are definitely rather scrummy!)

Well done the team at the Hart Public House Great service ,being chased while reading menu Great selection of beers and ales 🍺 food really good, tonight I had mixed Gill and it was amazing with great thick gravey ,and the chocolate fudge cake, with clotted cream ice cream was amazing would recommend to anyone else in the area or passing through 👌👍👍

We had an amazing experience. Excellent service! Anna went above and beyond to make to sure we had everything we needed! Food was good and affordable. We will be coming back many times.

Enjoyed a tasty, well cooked and nicely presented lunch here a few weeks ago. Senior specials give 2 or 3 courses with a good range to choose from at a reasonable price. We also liked the atmosphere, decor etc so thank you to our friendly waitress Kat and our talented chef Ros.

Booked via messenger as I'd heard good reviews about the food, but on arrival they were setting up for some music performance, we were sat right next to it and had disco lights in our eyes. We asked to move and were told there was nowhere to move it. Once our drinks arrived we were told there'd be a wait on food. Tbh, we were going to leave but decided to stick with it. The food when it arrived was nice, could have been hotter, but it was ok. But by now, the 'act' had started, and we could not talk at all. We asked if we could move for dessert and were moved to the conservatory. Staff were great and did accommodate us, and when we complained, they did refund our desserts. You need to either warn people you have live music on when booking so we could have decided to stay or go or don't put dinners around the 'act', sadly both don't mix.

Very disappointing. Went with family for a pre booked 7pm table, for food. The Hart was quiet, Wednesday evening, we waited what seemed like ages for someone to come and attend to us. Eventually we were shown a table, drinks were ordered and came after a long wait. The waitress said she would be back for our order but it took one our party to fetch her to get the food the order written down. Starters and mains ordered we settled down and waited, and waited, and waited, just over an hour passed and the mains arrived! We asked where the starters were and the reply "did you order starters?" Our mains were being taken away until we told the people to forget starters and let us have our mains now. We expressed our concerns about the poor service and we were told a supervisor would come over. This never happened. We ate our meals and and got the bill but before we left a table of four ladies spoke to us and mirrored our concerns. Overall the food was great but let down by the lacklustre staff attitude to customer service. I certainly will not be visiting this establishment again.

The food surprised me at how good and good value it was

First time here it has a lovely atmosphere to the place, and food was delicious will definitely be back.

Looks nice from the outside, but inside it could do with some TLC. Food is below average pub grub, had better at a Sizzlers, expensive for what you get.

We had a great time at the hart and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lovely experience with family and friends and will defiantly be returning soon :)

Excellent food didn't have to wait long staff friendly highly recommended

Went for family meal. It's clean and staff are lovely. Food was ok but a bit over cooked but guess what you expect for a pub meal. Roughly around £10 a meal. Kids loved their meal which was a good bargain at £4.99 for starter meal and desert. It's got a playground for children and easy to park.

Our party of 5 adults & 2 children dined today at midday. We did telephone to book and arrived with our table reserved and waiting for us. The meal value was excellent with all bar one adult choosing the senior 3 course for £9.99 and as it was half term both children ate for £1 each. We had a bit of a wait as they were busier than usual but the food was freshly cooked & was delicious. Staff were very attentive throughout our visit. Bill needed to be recalculated due to errors but this was no problem for either the Hart or ourselves. A big well done and thankyou to the lovely staff that took care of us. We will definately visit again and highly recommend others to visit.

Name my wife's decided to try this restaurant again after last time disappointment the young lad who served us brilliant polite courteous and couldn't do enough for us as I have IBS I asked the young lad about a burger big onions explain to him the old allergic I could I have it the burger without the onions he went & spoke to the Chef and came back and told me I could not have this burger as it was already made with the pickle in the burger so I opted for the gammon with side chips pineapple ring and a fried egg no bearing in mind the lad I told the kitchen I was allergic to onions I sent my dinner out with a side salad that was pre-packed weed onions explain to the lad it has onions on I couldn't eat it, the look on his face he was shocked because he told the kitchen then I was allergic to onions he quickly took to get it made up again 10-minutes later my food came out redone I presume the chips and a gammon what's scalding hot salad I thought I could taste onions on it but can't be sure but lo and behold bad stomach cramps and a dodgy belly this morning. Like I said I can't be sure this is what happened the last time we went up there explain situation with my IBS so I played safe and went for chicken salad which came out draped in red onions when I complained I took the onions off the salad yes I know because the salad you could taste onions, what is the point of asking if you have any food allergies if they're not going to take note like I said this is the second time this happened up there nothing to do with the staff that was serving just the kitchen staff seems to fall on deaf ears
