Friendly pub , friendly staff, due a refurbishment I haven't tried the food so can't comment on that but I had a good night at this pub and everyone was friendly

Went down on Sunday night with friends the girls wanted to play bingo but it was on every other Sunday so we stayed anyway we had a few beers and played darts,staff were great we had a good time we will be going back

Nice little place, only popped in for a quick couple but everyone seemed friendly enough. Lots of free parking, a pool table, a nice variety of spirits, and a few bitters and lagers on tap.

This pub has a lot to offer, including free parking and a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. I've visited several times and really enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are always welcoming, which makes each visit pleasant. However, the pub is in need of some updates. Some of the seating and toilets could use repair and refurbishment. While the pub is clean and tidy, it does have a run-down appearance that could be improved with some investment. On the plus side, they occasionally host events like "shy spots," adding an extra layer of entertainment. Despite the need for some maintenance, this pub remains a favorite spot for its friendly service and great drink selection.

Bar maid took money from me for a drink for herself. I didn’t realise until I got home . Won’t be returning If your going to hire staff please dbs check them. Brown long hair

Can't say if the food we had today was provided by the hotspur. (funeral buffet). If it was, the sandwiches were atrocious, if not then apologies. The ladies toilets were horrible!!!

Went here for a wake it's been 12 years since the last time I was here it's looking a bit shabby needs a bit of a sprouce up to bring it up to the same standard as the staff and food

Nice enough pub but kids under 5 running about and screaming like it's a playground doesn't do it for me . Really nice staff and good beer .

Looks like it’s closed down now and all the Chinese decorations have gone 😞 So I’m assuming it’s close good or going to be under new management. When the new houses that have been built in the area behind have been completed. I try to visit for the last month for lunch and it’s never been open. But no official signs saying what’s going on or opening times, but the inside still looks ready to open. So we’ll have to wait and see.

What a change in a pub! Looked grubby felt grubby! Not at like it was pre pandemic. Didn't stop long and won't be returning.

Strong smell of stale cigarettes didn't stay.

Disappointing to say the least.....in need of a complete refurb.....used to love this place. Went for a quick pint. No food and lacking customers. A great shame. Will day the landlord was very pleasant. Hope this place picks up 👍

Fantastic pub. Great, authentic Chinese food, with lovely local ales. Particularly recommend the sweet and sour dishes and the “salt and pepper” chips (salt and pepper with unique Chinese spices - really incredible!) Staff are a delight too. Convenient location.

Unfortunately the staff weren't very welcoming, the layout of it quite pleasant. My two worst complaints are the food menu on the bar isn't very clear, when I ordered our food at the price from the menu the cost on the receipt was about 20% more, when I queried this the young lady said that the prices on the menu were take out prices. The food itself wasn't in my opinion well presented or value for money. I won't be returning there again.

Went on a Tuesday evening. The place was empty, a few locals were at the bar. Ladies darts competition at the corner, nothing else. Kitchen was open and the food was nice. Traditional Chinese cuisine in a traditional English pub - bit confused but it surprisingly works.

The food is very poor I for one will never waste my money there again. If you have children and want them to run riot around the place screaming there heads off

For very customers they ensist on having music on full blast making it impossible to have a conversation, mainly to keep miserable barmaids happy

A good place for a quick meal out with family. Food is of good value for money, plenty and tasty. It lacks ambience though and can be quite noisy at times.

Always a friendly atmosphere and the food is always tasty and very good value for money, the kids love the sweet and sour chicken, no matter what I have chosen from the menu I have never been disappointed.

We were told that the takeaway food was amazing, so we tried and the experience was terrible. Firstly we were met with a less than enthusiastic lady who took our order and kept telling us to wait whilst she wrote it down. I ordered a green thai beef curry and asked three times could i have it without veg. My wife ordered ribs with Peking sauce and a separate order of Fried rice. Having driven to the Harry Hotspur once we got home all excited to taste this amazing food and what a total let down, firstly they forgot to put the rice in ok no big problem we boiled up some rice we had. The green Thai beef curry was absolutely disgusting. The beef was grey and no taste looked as it had been boiled it was tough, the sauce was a thick white paste with no flavor at all and looked like a bowl of puke. The Ribs were bitter as if they had been soaked in vinegar. So totally inedible and a waste of money. in my view stay away.

Worse food I've ever had, won't ever go there again. Wouldn't give any stars but have to.🤮

Ordered food twice from here and both times disgusting! When you ask for nothing in the curry except for peas and chicken you don't expect carrots in it! Ordered again giving it the benefit of the doubt and my egg fried rice was a little fried on the top and boiled on the bottom 3/4! Will be avoiding this place in the future what an absolute waste of money!

We were unfortunate enough to have a Chinese from here. There were 7 of us and they didn't do half of the usual dishes you would expect to order from a traditional Chinese. When it eventually arrived after about an hour and twenty minutes it was disgusting absolutely inedible. It was cold but tasted awful and ended up in the bin. I would definitely avoid at all costs.

Been here a couple of times now when in town, A really nice friendly pub which serves good Chinese food, Nice comfortable seating and large screen tv which Isn't blasting out mega decibels, Nice and relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.

Our order arrived within 20 mins. Bot and tasty. Altbo not enough sauce on the chow mein. Good value for money.

Really didn't enjoy our meal here beef curry was the worst I've eaten. Chewy grey looking beef, salt an pepper chips need more than just serving with onions they need flavour. Curry sauce was grainy too. Atmosphere isn't very good it's just a bar with drunk people shouting, not really a great experience. Overall wasn't the special night we had hoped for we stayed total of 45mins. Would not recommended at all.

Spacious but cosy Banks pub with ample car parking. First time visit for lunch and pleasantly surprised. There was a choice of English or Chinese fresh food. I had the lasagne, chips and salad and my partner had the Hong Kong style pork balls with rice and salad. Including the pint of beer and Coke the total bill was £18. The food was delicious and the staff friendly. They also do takeaway meals. Good choice on the menu and at very reasonable cost. Will definately go back to work our way through the menu!

This place is a hidden gem if you like Chinese food. It has a basic traditional English menu, and a good Chinese menu. I have eaten here a few times and the food is lovely and well priced. It's just a shame the overall decor is so dated, and poorly lit Staff are friendly and helpful. Worth visit.

Odd mix of traditional English pub and Chinese restaurant but the food is lovely and not too expensive. Would recommend.

I come here regularly, the egg fried rice is delicious and so are the chilli salt chips 🍟 Staff are really nice, too!

If you want chinese food have a Chinese takeaway instead. My meal was terrible.

Halfway through my meal, I found 2 pieces of beef in my VEGETARIAN chow mein 🤢 it was the first time it has happened to me and I must admit, it now makes me dubious to eat out again, not just at harry Hotspur but anywhere for that matter. I was given a free drink as an apology, which I was grateful for but I still can't help being cautious about eating out from now on.

We visit the Hotspur about once a month. It is a large traditional pub with sports screens and a pool table. I believe there is a beer garden but have never used it. Check before your visit if this is your main requirement. There is plenty of parking and special events can be catered. Our reason for visiting is the Chinese menu. We always enjoy the food. There is an English menu too. Friendly helpful staff and the pub is usually quiet when we visit around 2pm. Can't comment on other times.

Horrible meal... Chicken teriyaki was nothing but burning ginger in my sons mouth.. They refused to refund... Even though the dish was inedable

We visited the Harry Hotspur for a friends birthday. The service was friendly, the Chinese food absolutely excellent, best in Shrewsbury.

Good food at a great price,a well kept celler.

Came here to have lunch with my family, we got served quickly with drinks as we were the only customers at that moment, but few moments later more people came in looked like local regular customers and that's when we were ignored and forgotten. Tried to get the food menu, but was told there isn't one, but 10 mins later lady working behind the bar brought one eventually to us. After we picked the food we want and went to the bar to order it, lady was purposly ignoring us even though we said excuse me, then she replied one moment. Another 5 minutes later she picked up a phone and dissappeared without saying anything so we ended up with no food.

Lovely Chinese and English menu.

Stopped here for a bite on Sunday lunch time expecting it to be busy. It was very quiet. Although the pub it large it is very dark in there, with dark furniture and furnishings. We ordered an all day breakfast , food was ok but toaster had broke so were offered bread and butter instead, never has chewy bread before so left that. Lots of Chinese lanterns around as the chef is Chinese so you had a choice of English or Chinese to eat. One member of staff who covered the bar and was waitress too. Don’t think we will be going back

Popped in here on the spur of the moment for a quick meal and was quite impressed by the warm welcome. Good menu choice together with specials of the day on the Board. Included in the selection are many oriental dishes. The establishment is managed by an Asian couple so their special dishes will be authentic. Good service and there is plenty of car parking space.

Fantastic food, lovely management and a pleasant evening had. Staff wished us happy Christmas due to her shift ending, perfect and really accomadating! Thank you Harry Hotspurs 😍

Ok food if you won't cheap food but u get what you pay for to be honest

Llegamos aquí para una comida. . Sin embargo agradable. La comida del restaurante también funciona como un interior para llevar chino. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran sin embargo sabrosas las patatas fritas eran congeladas que luego a la freidora! paquete Las zonas de asientos y decoración eran un poco anticuadas, mesa de billar no estaba en uso como alguien había derramado una bebida en la sentimos y la banda en vivo por desgracia no podía hacer debido a una enfermedad que estaba fuera del control de los pubs, el personal es amable.

Visited for a pub lunch. The service was very slow for drinks, and after looking at the menu andcthe food dished up to the other diners, we decided to leave. All looked over cooked and dry.

Food is nice and prices are good. Service is not brilliant. Especially under pressure
